[Q] Question surrounding restoring factory and downloading official 4.3 update - KNOX

Hello!
Hope all is well. First I wanted to say i'm sorry if this is a duplicate - I searched and saw similar questions, but not exactly the same as mine .
I own a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 M919 and I had rooted it and installed a custom rom. Im having hardware problems and need to return it for repairs, so I reflashed the stock system and recovery, used triangle away to remove the binary counter, and hard reset the phone. In my download mode, my phones reads "Current Binary: Samsung Official" and "System Status: Official", as well as reads official on the device status in android so all went well.
My question is this - I got notification of a push update that is going to install Android 4.3, and apparently this "KNOX" software that I do no seem to currently have. My concern with this is that i'm reading that there is a flag with this KNOX software that is easily tripped, and once done, the download mode reads "KNOX WARRANTY VOID 0x1", which therefore voids warranties. Since I was able to get everything back to completely normal, I dont want to run any more risks since my phone really needs repairs very badly. Should I bypass this update? Though my phone is 100% official now, if I do the update, will the KNOX software catch that I had rooted/custom rom'd the phone in the past and trigger the flag automatically, or do you first have to have the update installed BEFORE you try to root it for the flag to trip? Everything is 100% stock now so when I download the update, I don't think there is anything present that would trigger anything, but I don't even have this "KNOX WARRANTY VOID" line in my download mode yet so I am wondering if I am just better off being safe than sorry?

It won't be tripped until you trip it so you will be OK if you update it to 4.3, But I highly advice against doing so.. Just leave it as is, and return it like that

If you are having hardware issues and are returning the phone and
your phone is 100% stock without KNOX right now then why in
the world would you want to take chances with OTA updates or
any other updates.
If it was me I would have already taken/shipped the phone back for
repair or exchange instead of worrying about OTA updates.

Thanks for the advice! Download mode would be the only location of that "KNOX WARRANTY VOID" flag right? If it's not there, then as long as it states both Samsung Official and Official in download mode I should be good ya think?

Awesome yep - no boot message I see either - boots just like it did the day I bought it. So I am pretty sure I have the firmware before KNOX came out - It has been rooted since the summer so I probably luckily bypassed the official update with KNOX
Thanks to all for your information! Im gonna stay away from the new firmware just to be safe until i get the phone back from warranty!

Hmm - things got even more interesting. So it seems when i reset everything back to stock as mentioned above, the screen flickering issues have now gone away and I am not seeming to replicate them in any way at all. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I was using a version of Wanamlite ROM before i reset everything. I am wondering if it was just the ROM causing the screen flicker and not a hardware defect.

Root without tripping knox or...

I need to root my tablet so I can use a few apps I like. I had it on my Samsung note 10.1 2012 and used triangle away. Not really looking for a rom, at this point I like stock ROM.
Any help please?

This has been answered a 1000 x before. Knox flag will trip and no known way to reset.

I have already rooted but have since noticed an issue with my display and I am past the return date for Best Buy. Because I have tripped Knox, I will not be able to send it in to Samsung?

You can always send it back for repair. Whether the repair cost is covered by warranty will depend on your local laws and or willingness of the service center. Just return it in official status and "play dumb"

I too would love to root but don't want to trip Knox. Samsung are real bastard for introducing it. Too bad the only capable hacker Geohot sold out and works for Google patching exploits now...

Feedback about this Knox bit? Should I worry?

Just now, first time reading about this Knox bit. I just this morning purchased from Best Buy a Galaxy Tab S 8.4" tablet. Going to old habits, I immediately look to a rooting method, and what some of the more popular ROMs are. But just curious on feedback, should I be worried about this Knox bit? If I ever have to return to stuck for a warranty claim, are they immediately able to tell that bit has been flipped? Does flipping the bit really lead to potential overheating and other issues?

Well.. Someone claimed that they got warrenty repaired even if knox was tripped. And it was a power button defect. And someone else said that they still had to pay since they tripped knox.
So its a 50/50 chance that samsung will repair your tab s if knox is tripped. I too was worried. Rooted and tripped knox and had no hardbricks so far. Twrp and odin saves me from softbricks but odin can fail sometimes.
To answer your question: knox being tripped doesnt do anything it just trips an efuse and say that knox is tripped. It doesnt overheat or nothing. If you return it for warrenty claim they can tell if it was tripped. Some may not check some do. Hope this helps!

Assuming it's rooting (which must typically bring new kernel?), does anything thing there's a chance that if we hold out that someone will find a rooting method that won't trip it. I stumbled across the Galaxy Tab Pro section and I see they claim to have a rooting method that doesn't trip the bit. So wondering if I suffer without root for a while if we might see such a thin here? Mind you, I know no one is a fortune teller.

1. If they check you tripped knox and denied your warranty claim, I belive they will ask you the option to pay for the fix. Though I cant be sure as thats what I heard but im pretty sure.
2. Well cfautoroot flashes root and reverts your recovery back to stock. Um.. With the towelroot method of not tripping knox... For the tab pro you downgrade your kernel/build. Though no one has tried downgrading their kernel to like a build before towelroot was patched for the tab s.. I dont know if it will work for the tab s.
I dont even know if we will see a universal root like towelroot. Geohotz is working for google and isnt updating towelroot for newer devices. But there is a huge bounty for rooting the note4 or something like that. But the chances of it working for other devices are pretty low. Hope this helps!

[Q] Note 4 root. no Knox trip

Is there anyway to root the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 4(SM-N910P) with out Tripping KNOX? I have tried towel root and it is not supported. Any help would be appreciated

Chain fire auto root then install twrp through the ROM I think. I just flashed through Odin though

I believe there is no way not to trip the knox if you root. It is a permanent change. However sprint will honor the warranty as long as you flash back to stock.

Damn, one can only hope. And when I had my s4 and I tripped knox. I had a SIM card issue, and they said sense it was tripped there is nothing I can do.. sorry about your luck

I had my s4 and it lost all audio in the headphone port somehow and I was running slimrom at the time. He wanted to see my phone and he asked if he could install root checker, of course I said yes. But said one sec let me check something, went into the settings and disabled root that way. He did his thing and then fixed my phone. When I turned in my phone, I am on the easy pay thing, it was still rooted and Knox was tripped. After I had my new phone and was ready to walk out. I asked him about it. He said he didn't care cause it gets shipped out and they wipe the phones and reinstall the factory image.
I guess it just depends on the tech that's helping you.

My screen had a bit of dust under the screen, I was rooted Knox tripped and had the screen replaced no questions asked. Like stated above just depends on the tech.

Tripped Knox with unrooted device

The other day I thought it would be a good idea to root my phone (S20 Ultra Exynos), as it's been many years since I've done it (S6 was my last rooted device).
Anyway, I kept running into issues with connecting to my watch, and getting payment apps working (on account of the root), and decided it was not worth the hassle.
So I unrooted the device via flashing stock firmware in ODIN and locked the bootloader.
I noticed my Samsung Health app didn't work, which was strange. Upon research, I found it was due to Knox being tripped - which was confirmed via downloading a checking app from the play store.
I know that there are patched S Health apps that would allow me to bypass knox, but is there is any way to reset the knox counter so that warranty is no longer void?
Are there also any other implications from this.
So far all my apps work fine, except for health.

It's a micro efuse inside the chipset that blows when you trip Knox.
The only way to fully undo it be to replace the mobo. Yeah... like Fort Knox.

Bloody Samsung, that's so ridiculous!
Oh well, I haven't seen any other issues with it tripping so far. Warranty is already void anyway since it's water damaged and have had the screen replaced by others.

Yeah definitely not the end of the world. I use google pay over samsung, and have never used the secure folder (I use Onedrive Vault).

Are there any other negative effects apart from Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, etc.? I just read that on some older devices the battery life was decreased as well? It's a shame that it can't be undone... I mean, what harm does it do if the phone was rooted (or even attempted to be rooted... it didn't even work!) once. Why should it forever be unsafe from then on? I want to use the phone as stock as possible, original firmware, no root, ...

It's so you know the phone's security has been compromised. Rooting and custom roms makes troubleshooting much more difficult.
Can't blame them for not wanting to troubleshoot other people's firmware on top of their hardware.
Stock Samsung's are relatively easy to troubleshoot...

Because the bootloader was compromised. A core component to Knox security.
