[Q] MirrorLink - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy yall!!! I just recently obtained my Verizon Note 4 and noticed in Settings>More Networks>MirrorLink it says "Use your phone while keeping both hands in the wheel by mirroring your phone's screen on your car's display. Connect your phone to your car via a USB cable to access applications designed specifically for MirrorLink. Your car system must support MirrorLink to use this feature"..... I have Verizon Note 4 SM-910V running 4.4.4 if it helps...
So thus i tried this yet to no avail.....I have a 2014 Chrysler 300 Sport..I would think having such a newer car that it would support MirrorLink...Maybe the car system doesn't support MirrorLink??? If not any ideas on how to get this program into my vehicle's system?

Mirrorlink

Does anyone know how to use Mirrorlink on Note 4? Setting is in NFC but I can't check box
Connect it to the head unit
Once you connect the phone via usb to a mirrorlink enabled device you'll be able to check the box.
Please let me know if you are able to launch the app because it just won't connect in my jvc nsx700. The app just loop crush on mine
I have a 2015 Subaru outback, the stereo has mirrorlink and it works pefectly with my wife's galaxy note 2 (pre-kitkat). When I connect my note 4 it says on the phone that mirror link is starting, but the radio never seems to recognize it. I have not had time to look into it much, but I wonder if the version of mirror link has something to do with it. I have not tried checking the box to start it. It seems like the phone automatically picks up it's connected to a mirrorlink device.
Having the same issue with AT&T Note 4 on a 6000NEX. I even get the message on my phone that mirrorlink is connected, but the screen on my deck stays black like it is trying to load.
I have a note 4 on us cell and a pioneer appradio 3. I was getting the same issues with mirrorlink. I found a post where someone had contacted pioneer and the response they got was that the note 4 uses mirrorlink 1.1 and my head unit uses 1.0 and they didn't know if or when they would update the firmware. I suspect this is the issue for anyone trying to use mirrorlink with the note 4. Sometimes it sucks having the latest and greatest. I do have mine working with a mhl adapter and have full screen mirroring on my head unit. I just hate having all the clutter and would love to just have one usb cable.

I am also facing the same problem with Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Have you had any luck with that yet??

I had also seen that thread. Very good info. Am going to give them a call myself. Pioneer did just update to 1.08. Has anyone tried with that firmware yet? My car is at the shop currently.

I have tried everything on my pioneer avh x7700bt wich hase mirrorlink version 1.1 en my n910c Note 4 hase 1.1 to and it dosent work Either tried it with a friend his Sony Xperia z en works perfect i think its a bug in the touch wiz rom
Can Anybody please verify this.
Just look for appradio unchained reloaded. Root, a permissive selinux kernel, and that app. You can have full touch mirroring on your pioneer app radio and nex rads
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
App radio unchained is for hdmi or mhl connections wich my app radio dosent have it hase only usb mirrorlink en Bluetooth

I have the same combo Galaxy Note 4 with the AVH-X7700BT AND i GET THE ERROR MESSAGE "RESET SMART DEVICE".
The Note4 does work with Appradioone after you update the firmware on the X7700. But it will not launch directly to Mirrorlink to mirror the smartphone directly.
I'm guessing that there has been no progress made on this?
I've got a Tmo Note 4 with a Pioneer x2700BS. I get the "Reset Smart Device" message.
I think that you might need a MirrorLink app first, but I tried to load one on there (MiRoamer) to see if it would do anything. The phone says that the app is certified, but the head unit doesn't do anything.
This is a Samsung issue. The s5 is receiving lollipop update with mirrorlink and doesn't work either. The s4 mini, note 4 and note edge were removed from the approved devices list on the mirrorlink site a few days ago. We need to be pushing Samsung on this issue.

I have a Pioneer AVH-x7700bt and the Note 4 and no luck either.
I believe it to be a ver 1.1 vs 1.0 issue , even though this https://cert.mirrorlink.com/ProductListing/ says they are both ver 1.1!!!
Mirrorlink works under the Lollipop update for the Note 4.
However, you need a Mirrorlink app to use it. An example is miRoamer.
There's only a few, and they all kinda suck.
Hi! Install Apps miRoamer, Glympse, iCoyote, Audioteka, and Parkopedia for MIrrorLink usage.
With Note 4 after the MirrorLink connection established you have to install the Car App, then on the MirrorLink menu on the HU the Certified Apps are shown.
If somebody have time to do this installations please test the apps while driving. And give a feedback regarding driver distractions.

No luck here. I installed miRoamer on my Note 4. In the mirror link settings on the phone the app is listed as a certified app. when I connect the the phone to the car it shows the "phone is connected using mirror link" but nothing happens on the car display. The only thing I see missing from what I have done, was install the Car App. I'm not sure what you meant by the car app.
Hi,
The connection between my NOTE 4 and my car radio device (Volkswagen POLO, with MIRRORLINK) was very difficult until yesterday...
Before yesterday, when my phone was connected with Mirrolink, i was able to see applications (only ones fully compatible)...but when i started one, screen was black and nothing appeared!
Until Yesterday, after 1 day by my Car Seller (and after a software update of my car stereo device), Mirrolink is fully compliant with my NOTE 4!!!
So, if you have any problem of black screen, ask your manufacturer if an update exists...that could be a solution!
Hey guys something new? I got the new firmware 8.40 for Pioneer Avh-x7700bt in Germany and my note 4 is latest update too. Doesn't work there was something new, new screen with "searching mirror link" and two monitors on my note 4 but failed after searching again nothing. Both are now mirror link 1.1 I thought my avh-x7700bt is broken but if all of you have the same problem. And the app doesn't work.

Compatible 3G/4G modems

Hello,
The modem that worked 100% of the time in KGL MTCB units, the Huawei E173u-2 doesn't work anymore.
The manufacturer sent us a list of modems that are - to say the least - very exotic in Europe.
Does anybody have a list of compatible modems? What modems do you guys use?
Do MTCD units support 4G/LTE modems or still only 3G?
Make use of an old phone, making wifi hotspot! - works best for me.
No need to buy slow sticks. Blackberry Q5 is very cheap - and LTE 4g wkan-hotspot is in.
Try the "chinese" umts stick for umts/wcdma that are sold within the headunits. these mostly are 7.2mb/s download. not statisfying, is it?
Yep, the UMTS stick is crap. I bought a Huawei E8372 LTE-WiFi-Stick. This one runs much better.
I tried a Huawei 3131H USB stick and it works fine (3G). The connection appears as a mobile 3g regular icon on the head unit. Sometimes the stick connects, but there's no visual feedback on the unit (still works).
Then I switched to a Huawei R216 (modem/wireless router with battery) with 4G, also works fine. The connection appears as "shared via cable" - 2 small overlapping computer icons. It also works seamlessly. You cannot connect the head unit to the modem wifi while connected via USB (makes sense and I don't know if there's any setting to switch from shared cable connection to wifi)
Hotspot with internet connection (from various phones) - works without a hitch and you can do it with an older phone connected to the USB for power, I tried with an old Samsung S3 Mini and it worked.
The Vodafone tech guys said that their stick modems may not be compatible with my setup, because they had people returning them after tying to connect them to tablets via cable. I suspect that's the case for the headunit too, so I didn't risk it - Vodafone Mobile K4607-Z (from ZTE) and Vodafone Connect USB Speed 6 4G (Huawei I think) are the ones in question.
Hope this helps.

Surely this has nothing to do with MCU version and is dependent on the ROM?
Zubie
I bought a Zubie. It plugs in to the OBD2 port and provides wifi to the car through my Verizon account.
In order to still use a bluetooth OBD2 adapter simultaneously, I bought an OBD2 splitter cable off amazon.
I love this setup.
DOES NOT WORK:Telstra Pre-Paid MF823 4G USB (ZTE MF823) (Unlocked via ebay code)
Only works if when initially plugged in, does not work when resumed from standby or swapped from wifi: HUAWEI E122
Also, There is a big difference for applications activity between a "Cellular" data connection and a WIFI connection (Tethered/hotspot). EG. Spotify set to only download on WIFI connection cannot differentiate between your home WIFI connection and a hotspot or Play Store set to update on WIFI only. This can become costly if you're on a small data plan.
Huawei e3372 (4G/LTE) works perfect when updated the MCU (MTCD_KDV1.82_1 Aug 26).
Initially I've tried with MTCD_KDV1.52_1 May 4, but didn't work.
but nevertheless, there's not 3G or LTE icon signal, there's a Network icon (two computers like MsWindows icon) like if it was an ethernet connection.
I've tested and it works at LTE speed. Cool! :good::good:
Only there's only one problem: This network connection is preferent over WiFi, so, to connect to a Wifi Nework i've to unplug the USB dongle. It's impossible to connect to a WiFi when the dongle is connected.
Joying posted a new 4G dongle, but looks like it works more as a wifi hotspot:

I've actually got the R216 and I can't make it connect via USB at all - just using the wifi connection.
Could I ask what MCU you are running and roughly where you see it in the network settings?
Thanks!

hey, I have the R216 from Vodafone Romania and I just plugged it in in one of the 3 USB ports with a microSD cable (works on any of them, with no special settings) and threw it in the glove box. My unit is a HotAudio MTCD 5.1. As for the MCU, it worked with both the default one from May, and with the updated one from this forum (June, I think). Can't exactly recall the versions, 1.53 and 1.63 I think. The modem works with both cable sharing and hotspot simultaneously. The unit takes the cable connection as a priority from the modem (you can not plug it in the USB, but choose the Wifi from the same device). I also found out that in some ROMs, the cable net speed is vastly superior to the wifi one

Awesome - thanks heaps!
I have Vodafone Australia version, so probably similar. I think I have one of those MCUs and I'm using the June version of @Malaysk's great software.
Will have to check things out further - my unit has this thing where only one of the usb ports is assigned to be used with the modem, and I can't remember which one I plugged my usb webcam into.
Thanks again for responding.

In my unit's printed schematics & cables, the single shorter one is designated for modems (and has a separate port in the back of the unit). I just plugged the modem in the other 2 for curiosity. For HotAudio MTCD i think there are only 2 MCUs anyway, I couldn't find more. ROMs don't seem to matter, I went through 2 factory versions, 2 Malaysk versions and now I use a Xtrons one,no issues. If you can't get it to work, it may be the modem's firmware to blame.
Silly question, what do you guys use for the SIM card? Surely you don't pop it out of your phone and install it in the modem every time you go for a drive?

Not really familiar with the head unit - does this require HDMI/UHS connection? If so, this may not be supported on the Z play. Think there's another recent thread here indicating the z play doesn't support hdmi out over the usb connection.

Usually only one device can be connected "fully" at the same time or they conflict. You can try limiting the connection "types" by going into the individual BT settings for each device and selectively choosing which BT connection types you are looking for in each device. You can limit how the watch connects to your phone, and you also can specify how your car will connect to the phone. As long as these connection types don't overlap it should work. This method works well for me using a cheap BT music receiver in my car.
There is also an app I've used quite a bit called Bluetooth Autoconnect. Among other things It allows you to set a BT priority by device, so if you set the car as first priority it will kick the watch's connection. Unfortunately the app hasn't been updated in the last year but it seems to still work just fine on Pie. Best of luck. :good:

Note 10+ and Android Auto Issues

This issue has been logged numerous times on Google Forums - but I wanted to check in with people here. I have the new Note 10+ 5G and having serious issues keeping Android Auto running with my Pioneer Head Unit (please note, I have had NO issues with other Android Phones - OnePlus 7 Pro, Google Pixel 3XL, Sony Xperia 1).
Basically, when connecting the Note 10+, Android Auto worked fine for the first session, then crashed on the second, and since simply won't connect until the phone does a full reboot (then will only work once and run into the same issues). At first I thought DEX was interfering (which it probably is!) but unfortunately there is no way to disable DEX apps or the USB response when plugging in an external connection.
Have others had this issue? Any ideas??
Thanks!

No issues here in both of my cars
This is not note 10 this is general issues with any not stock google android and android auto. Are you trying to use wireless or usb AA? They just got wireless working with non google devices, but it's very random when it works. I've had the issue you describe(having to reboot) with wireless, USB is far more reliable.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm using a direct cable plugged into the Pioneer Head Unit. I have not had this issue with any other handset - and I suspect it may have something to do with DEX. Any other thoughts you may have?
I use it daily on my F150 and I'm not having any issues at all, working perfectly fine. You can try reinstalling the app if you haven't done that already.

Yeah, sorry to hear that. I have a Kenwood DDX9906XR and it does wireless android auto. I have a Google Pixel 3 XL and the Note 10+. I've been able to get wireless android auto working (as well as wired) with NO issues at all. I do think the wireless option is a bit overrated and even sometimes annoying as it doesn't connect as fast as using wired. I just love that Samsung phones are one of the only few left that still use miracast so I get to use the wireless display function in my car.
I have had issue with Waze showing correctly but sometimes when switch to music music plays on screen but not audio. Have to unplu and replug..I did see new apk yesterday so will try it.
My Note 10+(4G model) is having AA issues..
Whenever I plug mine into the Focus RS(SYNC 3) it crashes at 1st use and the Note thinks I am using DEX for PC and to turn it on.
I have tried different cables including Sammy one . and reset the phone to a clean install no joy
I also had an issue with note 10+ connected to my Kenwood Excelon DDX9905S, pandora and spotify - no audio to kenwood would play. I see today there are play store updates for both, perhaps a fix.
on my car, i have to plug in the phone to the car first BEFORE starting the engine. otherwise i get no audio.

I've experienced many issues with AA with a spectrum of devices. I firsts believed that my vehicle was to blame, due to the technology differences, however I've realized that my Buick Encore Preferred II (ALL STOCK EQUIPMENT IN VEHICLE) immediately broadcasts it's Bluetooth/Wifi-Direct as soon as the head-unit/radio is supplied power. I've concluded that MY issues with android auto came from the app recognizing device movement while I was driving.
Now, I'm no expert, but here's my suggestion.
1. Ensure the USB-C cable supports data-transfer and charging simultaneously. (I've made this mistake by ordering USB-C cables ((that only supported charging....poorly)) )
2. Restore Android Auto's factory settings that came with the phone, ensure any Android Auto data-backups are deleted (for troubleshooting purposes).
3. Install/Update via Play store.
4. Disable bluetooth & "forget" any paired vehicles/head-units on your phone.
5. Remove your phone from your vehicle's bluetooth memory.
At this point, your phone should be plugged in to your COMPATIBLE head-unit***, with neither devices recognizing each other.
6. Start your vehicle's battery/engine & stay stationary.
Your phone may immediately start Android Auto. Some head-units automatically do this for you as a "safety/handsfree" feature.
If Android Auto doesn't automatically initiate when you power your head-unit, run the application.
7. Follow your phone's on-screen prompts to finalize set-up.
8. Ensure your phone is connected to your vehicle's bluetooth.
Worked for me!
Remember, if it's not broken, don't fix it.

Same issue here. Worked like a charm with Mate 10 Pro, crashed with my new Note 10 + after a few seconds. Solved it by going through all my USB cables and somehow I found one that worked! (tried 5 different cables). Only a one out of 5 works. My Mate worked with all of them.
Btw: this is the one that worked

If you want to disable dex, i've finally found an app to take the place of Samsung package disabler. . It's called CCSWE. I bought the pro license for $2.99. Samsung package disabler from android police worked great when it worked, but they kept losing your license info and have to re-purchase. Since s10+ i haven't got it to work, says something about failed registration or no license.. something to that effect. Developer is not answering any questions.
I had AA running fine on a Note 8 and an S9. On the Note 10+ it kept disconnecting after a couple of seconds. At the end I have it stable, but I had to modify all battery savings options for this app. I did not disable DeX. When I connect the Note 10 to the head unit (USB), I do get the DeX notification but that does not interfere with the connection anymore.
What I do find annoying is that I have the light and dark mode switched based on day and night time. I noticed that the mode follows the day and night mode of my head unit when connected. However, after disconnecting, the original setting (where it switches based on planned schedule on the phone itself) is no longer activated. I like the detail though, that the phone follows the car scene.
Note 10+ Android Auto on 2017 Ford F150 with SYNC 3 Version 3.0
Android Auto on 2017 Ford F150 with SYNC 3 Version 3.0 worked fine with a Samsung Note 8.
Phone was upgraded to Note 10+ and Android Auto connects and works for a few seconds and then does not work and SYNC 3 reverts back to standard Ford SYNC 3 screen.
Android Auto still works fine with same USB cable and Note 8 in either USB port in truck on SYNC 3.
Note 10+ Android Auto version is 4.5.592854-release
Note 8 Android Auto version is 4.5.592854-release

I can confirm that in my case I have turned off optimized power and set the phone to maximum performance. I have tried every setting for power and have not had any luck in my case on my Note 10+ phone.
I can confirm that in my case I have run through all of the USB debugging ON/OFF scenarios as well as matching every setting that is on the Note 8 that continues to work with AA and SYNC 3. I have tried every setting and have not had any luck in my case on my Note 10+ phone. I have switched USB cables using everything from Samsung to Anker one-foot to three-foot. All of these cables continue to work with the Note 8 on Android Auto, SYNC 3.
My assumption is this is a new ore revised USB security or access setting embedded somewhere I am unable to locate in the Note 10+ settings/software.
I also tried disabling DEX as that is something new that notifies when connecting USB on the Note 10+ and I figured it might be a conflict with other USB connectivity. No luck there either.
My Note 8 continues to work fine. I am even able to run a Hotspot on the Note 10 + feeding the Note 8 via Wi-Fi connected directly to the USB in the vehicle and that works.
Nothing works on the Note 10+ directly connected to the vehicle via USB with Android Auto and it sounds like it was a problem with the Note 9 and other phones also.
It's frustrating how everything could change so drastically with a new phone release.
I just want Android Auto to work on my new $1100.00 SAMSUNG FLAGSHIP PHONE Note 10+ like it did with my previous SAMSUNG FLAGSHIP PHONE Note 8 ...
Based on all of the previous posts, it appears to be a big problem and I'm sure the others posting have not found resolution, unless they are just not following up with a post.
FYI, Andoid Auto works perfectly on my Note 10 + (and it also worked on my previous Note 8). Using wired set up to 2017 GMC. (And it did work when Dex was on my phone, and it also works now with Dex disabled.)
Thanks
Thanks for responding. Might be a Ford SYNC 3 thing as that appears to be the difference.

I believe (I could be wrong) FORD SYNC 3 is Microsoft (back end).
I had no issues on the S10+ so I can't blame One UI . Tried power settings tried to change USB settings (won't let me when connected to the head unit)
Will try power settings next
My AA works with my Chevy Redline no issues
