Greetings folks!
Before one month, i bought a new HTC 816, the device is reliable and working exactly as i expected, one day i woke up and i just noticed that the the screen protector was cracked, at first i thought that my screen was damaged, but then it turns out to be the screen protector thankfully, i found out that it was cracked due to the cold weather, sometimes at nights, temperature drops to 2-0 Celsius at my room(i live in Aleppo/Syria, lack of fuel/gas).
After few days, a friend of mine just bought the same device, and while i was transferring some files between our devices i noticed that the colors in my device is a bit lower and gloomy compared with the other HTC, i thought it was a software issue or a screen colors/brightness settings, but then i found it that my screen somehow had an issue, i also noticed some 3 bloated spots on the screen (it's was really hard to find, unless i exhale on my screen lol) tried also to clean em out, but sadly they were inside my screen.
If you just like hold my HTC 816 you wont notice any issue with the screen, unless you really looks carefully at it.
My question is:
)1 Could the very low temperature (2-0 Celsius) damage the screen somehow?
)2 Could it be that since my mobile is a mid range device that it came with this screen issue from the factory it self?
Hoping that someone will help me out, also excuse my bad Englis
It has nothing to do with 816 being a mid range device. you can try and claim warranty if it has any.
Temperature should be an issue only if it is sub-zero celsius and especially if there are sudden changes in temperature. what you're describing may be Liquid condensation under screen because of temp change. take a look at this

For some reason my HTC at the bottom is getting very hot and rebooting because of it. I pulled the battery and with the charger in and battery out its still overheating. With just the battery it is also overheating and now it's not charging.
No software changed so it has to be hardware, can anyone tell me if their Desire gets hot at the bottom with charger in and battery out? If so I might be able to try a new battery (the current one isn't getting hot at all). Phone was bought second hand so I could be stuffed!
Cheers, Andrew
Sometimes with hard use (many downloads at the same + 720p streaming and charging) the battery take over 45C. But never reeboot. So i think you have a battery failure, or even worth, a motherboard failure.

I'm gonna go with what you said.
Doubt its the battery (not ruling it out though).
My desire kept rebooting when I used GPS / Wifi or mobile data. I just took it back.
Hope you're still under warrantee.
Nope, last phone I buy without one.
It's basically dumping all power including that in the battery into heat, I presume the GPRS chipset has failed as I lost signal. Battery drained extremely fast and now wont charge as the full 500mA from the USB is going into heat.
New mainboard time. Finding one though...
i doubt its a motherboard problem.
more just a problem with heavy use. maybe try not to do 10 things at the same time.
it is still a mobile phone afterall.
Err no, liquidmonkey it doesnt work like that.
IF its overheating to the point where its constantly rebooting, then its a hardware failure. All this stuff about putting phones in the freezer is a load of rubbish, just like the old Xbox 360 towel trick. If its overheating - its faulty.
just got my Desire back from vodafone, new mainboard, i already tested in sunny Lisbon (27c) working in the sun, for navigation in the car with google maps navigation, *
the old one, in direct sun lite it would not stay on for 5m.
Now it is ok!
and since it is a new mainboard and IMEI, i have a renew 2 YEAR WARRANTY . thx voda... lol
but that's not all, they also changed my screen from a SLCD to a OMOLED ???
and i don't think that's ok!
when i delivered my desire to vodafone, they lent one other htc desire to me, it also was amoled, but it add much better viewing angle, and less tending to blue.
my new screen was a very poor viewing angle because the colors tend to much to the blue when i tilt the phone, it also is very bright, does not have as much definition as the SLCD, and i think the one voda lent to me ad also better definition, but at least the black is really black and color very vivid!
do you think that what i have *seen, 3 different screen's in 1 week, and considering the characteristics of my new screen, are normal for amoled screen? ?
thx in advance (sorry for the inglish)

Mine will get very hot if charging whilst playing video or using GPS but I think its only rebooted once.
I have bigger problems with my other phone, in comparison the desire really is a cool phone.
I guess you could try under clocking it if you have problems?
Last night I was out and during the night I pulled my desire z out of my pocket to find that the screen was dead, the soft touch buttons were still lit up and working but no display. I pulled the battery and tried to reboot and no luck, you can hear it booting and even unlock/receive calls and txts etc once it has booted up just the screen stays blank the whole time so have to do everything on feel.
Essentially does this just mean my screen has a hardware fault? is it worth trying to fix? I assume the only option would be to purchase a replacement screen and dissemble and reassemble it?
(warranty is not worth it as I live in New Zealand and would have to send my phone back to the UK where I bought it from, also I have dropped it quite a few times so probably voided anyway...)
Thanks in advance for any input
Does it never display anything? So not even a flash during boot or something?
Because then it is probably a hardware problem.
Since the soft touch buttons do still work I think there might be a little crack or something in the flat cable that connects the bottom half with the top.
Maybe you could check whether you can see if the cable is broken or not?
The best thing to do then is to look for a replacement and try to fix it yourself or bring it to a shop where they can do it for you.
No it never displays anything, completely dead the whole time. The touch input is still working though as I answered a phone call this morning on it by making the usual gesture just without being able to see anything. Doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the cable itself as far as I can see. Yea might have to get someone to have a look at it.
My phone is acting the same. I dropped my phone in the pond before, but pulled battery out on time and had it in rice for a day. My phone was still working for about two weeks after that incident. I dropped it and had one little crack at the top of the screen and about a week after that it died when I had a water balloon fight with the phone in my pocket. D;
Do any of you know if the replacement lcd screen/digitizer for the Desire Z would work for the G2?
I had the same thing happening to my G2 screen, only it was intermittently working for a little while, then just completely died and wouldn't work. It was doing this crazy flickering thing then the back light wouldn't go on at all. If I held the phone at a certain angle in the sun, I could see that the pixels were indeed working on the display, but there was no backlight to make them normally visible.
So I purchased a replacement screen from ebay and carefully followed the directions on a youtube video for a G2 take apart. Its not a hard task to take apart and get down to the screen itself. It was rather easy. After putting it back together the screen still didn't work! Sounds work, i can also receive calls etc. But the screen still doesn't work!
Is there any way that this could be a software issue?
Oh and PS, I believe the LCD replacement would work for both the desire Z and the G2. They are identical phones after all right? I'd say its a safe bet. The screen I bought was only 35 bucks. Didn't think that was a bad deal.
Another dead screen or something else?
Few days ago my phone fell of the couch onto a rug - no big deal, so far it has survived much worse, but when I picked it up, the colors were all messed up - overly green and red. Tried restarting - no luck. Everything worked fine, except the colors, but then the screen turned of completely. I could hear notifications, phonecalls, but the screen was dead. After some tapping on the screen, it turned on again - with ****ed up colors. Then started flickering and was gone again. Few more times I could turn it on by tapping before it was dead for good.
Figured, after all these drops it survived, maybe the screen connector is a bit loose. I mean, I could sometime get a contact when tapping it, so I dissasambled it completely, secured all the connection, put it all back tougether and fired up - same thing: dead screen, phone working.
Has anyone had such problem before? Is it screen that is dead, or connector or... I have no clue... I would like try to fix it on my own, with some replacement parts I could get on ebay - but, what gave?
Hi everyone,
I have worked out that its heat that causes the phone to start to flicker. I put my phone in the freezer for about seconds seconds (don't advice anyone else to do this) and boom the flicker went away for a while.
So this means its not the screens which are faulty looks like a hardware design fail to me. Whats the long term effect of this on the device? Could it cause the phone to stop working? Who knows but i cant belive HTC did not catch this during testing.

I played Glowball for at least a half hour yesterday and my display didn't flicker. So it's not all of them.
mate flicker is a defect, end, my hox heats to 53deg n no flicker
Definitely not heat related, I noticed the flicker as soon as the several I've had were delivered, they were freezing at the time, as they'd been in a couriers van all day in cold weather. If anything it then became more intermittent as it warmed up.

Hi, maybe someone have encouter similar issue and have and could comfirm if there could be anything else i could do except replacing whole lcd+touch, which cost pretty much same as new unit
My my screen is showing some weird artefacts on screen, at first there is not much but its getting worse after few muniutes of use. If i lock and unlock the device i show white light bleed on left side of the screen (first picture) then if i lock again, wait for a while it disappears, but some artefacts and color pixel start to show on left side (second pic). After a while some strong white lines apear, always in the some spot, but if i put down the device for few minutes it desappers. Reattaching battery didn't help, i guess thats not the case. Could this be a faulty LCD connector? Or the screen is dying.. ? Definitly not a software bug, i just upgraded to 6.0 and even in bootloader mode while upgrading there were those two lines (last pic)
What screen brightNess do you use. It's recommended to use 20% to avoid screen burn in

Hmm.. since i usually use the tablet in bright locations its probably set to higher then 50%, at least..
There is one more thing, after like 10 minutes of use, almost all the above issues stops, only thing that stays is the "burned like" vertical stripes, barely visible, on about 2/3 of the screen.
I does not make the table unusable but its quite annoying...
could this be affect of screen burn in ?
i think its just a bad screen from a begining cuz i have tab s 8.4 for almost 2 years now and i gave it to my brother for a year and he was in Tenerife...temperatures there are high so i doubt its a screen burn since my tablet is still ok even after one year at Tenerife with probably brightnes always on 100%...just sharing my xperiance cheers guys
The battery on my HTC 10 was completely shot and needed to be replaced. I'm a careful person by nature and this being my first phone repair, I bought an extra screen just in case something happened getting it apart. Followed a guide by jerryrigeverything on how to take apart the phone, got the battery replaced, everything seemed to go smoothly. When I went to test the display before screwing everything together, the new screen I installed lit up, but the right half of the display only showed as a repeating segment from the middle of the screen. Thinking the connector was loose, I disconnected and reconnected the display and made sure everything was tight: same problem. I reinstalled the original display, which I made sure had worked after cutting through the adhesive before I disconnected it, and now the old display is also showing the same issue.
The touch screen on the broken side of the display still works, I'm able to type PIN numbers and whatnot even though I can't see them properly. Only thing I can think of is maybe the connection actually got some debris or something inside of it? I don't think I damaged anything, as I was super careful, but it was also my first time opening up a phone.
Sorry for the inefficiently worded post. Any help would be really appreciated.
Did you resolve this?
I have exactly the same issue you describe after my screen replacement (with two new screens) Believing the first was a dud.
I have done many screens/batteries on my m7, m8's previously never having a problem.
I'm currently back to running my M8 and miss my 10!
Anyone reading this and has any suggestions they are all welcome!!
Thank you in advance
Exactly the same issue this guy has

I'm now wondering if it is just bad aftermarket screens?
Has anyone else replaced their screen successfully, if so where did you get the screen?
Thanks Rory
I have been having the same problem. I just tested screen number 4 that has the same exact problem. Is there a specific brand that is known to test well?
I dropped my 10 in water at work...believe it was a salty water at that. It stopped working completely. I opened the phone to check the internal components for damage and I broke the LCD doing so. I replaced the battery and the screen at almost the same time. I think it may have been a week or two apart.
The battery is still working. The screen worked initially but the phone kept getting really hot and the heat kills the phone. I tried keeping it cool at all times which kept it operational. It hasn't been activated since I quickly replaced the phone with another of my lines upgrades. I went back to the phone to check it out and try using it as a replacement for my daughter but the screen no longer works.
The battery charges just fine...the led light indicates that well. I've tried reinstalling it several times with no success getting the screen working again. I tried the original screen to check and I could see light and it was responding but its not usable so I'm stuck with a phone that has a new non-working display. I think the brand was called DIYRepair or similar.
If anyone has encountered this and has advice...I'd be happy to try anything.
