Decision time - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am about to buy Lg G3, but still can't decide should I buy 2gb/16gb or 3gb/32gb model? Is it worh that 50 euro to buy 3gb model... I looked all over the internet, somebody say that 2gb is enough and it works as 3gb and the only deference is the storage space. (16 gb-32gb) and some where I read that 2gb is even better than 3gb. What do you think? It's been a lot of time since this phone came out, so what do you think after playing with them? I am not a big gamer so I dont need a lot of RAM. I use my phone only for surfing on internet and sending some sms and around 10 minutes of talk time per day. Is 2gb enough for that? How does 2gb works with Lollipop? I have a lot of questions but I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance,
Petar

Personally think an extra 1gb ram and extra 16gb storage space is woth the 50 euros, Ram isnt only used for gaming but for multitasking and smoothness of the interface, 2gb is good buh id pay the extra 50 euros lol, my opinion anyways.

Get the 32GB device, the internal sdcard can be read and written to much faster then a external sdcard usualy. This is a no brainer if you can spare the extra 50 euro.

3GB/32! No doubt. But I will tell you, I've been getting some lag on my G3 as of the last update. It's been slower and not as fluid So I'm not sure it really really really makes that much of a difference if it's going to lag on me!

Hmm I don't really know why. A lot of people that got upgraded to Lollipop sad that phone got smoother, fluid and battery got better. But I guess it's different for every one.

Wow. Really? I have seen the opposite. I have shorter battery as well as more choppy. Oh well! No biggy ! Haha.

Maybe try to get it back to Kit Kat if it was better back then. So how is the phone, when you had it before update? I currently have Nexus 4, I hope its a good upgrade to G3.

As you can see from my signature, I've been on android for a long long time... I think I need a change of phone. I'm going to probably return my g3 and stick with the Nokia. But I will keep my Samsung tablet. Hehe.

Thinking of getting the an A100... things I should know?

Been looking around for a new tablet and have been looking at the A100 since the price has dropped. Anything I should know about this? I like the 7inch form factor. So is it rootable? Will ICS run on it? Is it overclockable/upgradeable? Just wondering if its worth getting or if there is another 7" tablet that coming out soon that will be a better deal. You get the idea of what I'm asking. Thanks for any info!

If you know where to get one at a decent price please PM me. They looked to be sold out everywhere!
If your not going to get jealous of the quad core tablets coming out this year then you shouldn't worry too much.
Things to loom out for: Viewing angles- it doesn't sound like a big deal till you buy it, but in landscape the viewing angles are pretty bad, portrait is fine.
Development- currently it is capable of gaining root access, but there is no bootloader unlock as of yet (which means no ROMs/Kernels) I suspect(hope) development will pick up after the ICS updates come out.
Overall, for the price I cant complain much, its a nice tablet that has the specs of the 10 inchers , has the tegra 2 chip so games play wonderfully and no need for an app like Chainfire. Viewing angles is really the only thing that pisses me off from time to time.

Well I'm only going to buy something like that new. As far as the quadcores, that sounds great but is there going to be any 7" tablets with the quads that don't cost $600 coming out soon/

Your best bet it probably in store at Walmart(and maybe, but less likely, Best Buy), but probably don't plan on getting one online for the $250 price.
But getting back to the OP's question, the biggest issue I've seen with the tablet is the terrible battery life that has me missing my old Nook Color at the end of the day when I don't have a charger handy. The other nitpick is that the screen isn't great, but unless you're a videophile, most people won't care once they get used to it(though again I'm missing the Nook Color at times, but not as bad as with the battery).
Otherwise it seems like a decent little 7" Honeycomb tablet especially for the new $250 price that many are carrying it for. I wouldn't pay much more than $250 for it though(got mine for $189). Sure there are cases to be made for the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet/Color in that general price range, but it's a trade off in each direction. What the others gain in battery life or display(at least for the Nook), they loose in not having a hassle free full tablet experience.

Havent seen one yet. But ya its probably gonna be in the $400s. Since IMO 10.1's are roughly gonna be in the $500s. I'm considering selling mine since I want a 16gb instead. Anyone here with a 16gb they wanna sell? And anyone wanna offer me something for my 8gb that I bought Nov 26th? I should post this as a separate thread.
When I was shopping for a Nook Tab or Kindle Fire, the A100 was available for the Black Friday special. So it was a no-brainer getting the cheapest tab that included GPS, Bluetooth, microSD slot, hard buttons for volume and screen rotate, HDMI and Honeycomb. (Plus Android 4.0 expected within a month.)
Plenty of Walmarts have it in stock at $259, although I expect it to be under $200 when CES is over in two weeks and new models are announced.
Compared to anything in the price range, I'm still thrilled with the A100. If I'm spending $500, I'll get an iPad and take advantage of having more support with apps and accessories than anything else. (I love the way Apple still updates software on my nearly ten-year-old iBook.) But for a bargain tablet you can easily fit in a slightly oversize pocket, the A100 remains the winner. If you want more, you will have to pay more.

My 32gb is almost full lol. Currently using GL to SD for my game data. I bought 8 gameloft games since theyre only 99 cents. So I'm running out of room. Internal I only have 2gb left. So an additional internal would be great.
dropbox + google music helps too. an extra 10gb isn't going to give you much more room, plus by the time you format it, in reality your only getting around an extra 8gb.

I thought if we have 5gb left on our 8gb Acer that 3gb is used by system. So a 16gb Acer should give me total of 13 unused ?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
it's not a full 8gb when they partition and format the drive. Its more like 7.4gb and then they take about 2gb of it for /system /data and other various mount points. leaving us with a measily 5.4gb.
Sure, you'll get a 16gb device, when they format internal storage that'll leave you with roughly 14.5gb, at least 2gb of that will be taken up by the system leaving you with 12.5gb (depending on if they decide to add a recovery partition and any additinal software).
An example of this is the atrix, its a 16gb device, yet you only get 10gb of storage space. The rest is takin up by system files. So at most you'll only get 7gb more space than what you currently have, is it worth buying a new device for just that?

Mate 1gb vs 2gb ram

Anyone have experience using both? I have a 1gb version and I am pretty happy with it other than the performance sometimes. Ram can go below 100mb and then lag will kick in... I love the screen size and battery. Sticking with stock b221 as well cos I find this to be best for 1gb so far.. Other custom roms shoes down the phone after a while for me.. Since mate is around usd 199 now.. Was thinking getting a 2gb version as spare and sell off the 1gb.. I was hoping 2gb will give a much smoother experience.
Anyone?

i didnt get to use both, but for the past 1 year and 10 months, my 2gb mate never dissappoint me. now with helps from our great devs here, i will keep huawei phones till i feel i cant no more
i suggest you take the 2gb amd it will be a different experiences considering the ram improvement over the 1gb you hv now.
ps: i even bought another huawei ; Honor 3C H30-U10...
[email protected]
go for it, it's a world of difference.
Thanks.
I was hoping for this answer. I find the speaker and screen to be very good. I dun mind the 720p at all. I have a z ultra and if the performance is at par, I wouldn't mind using HAM at all. But the responsiveness with 1GB is starting to get unbearable.... I remember I was at a Huawei shop and saw the 2gb version and just check out the ram use.. It's at about 700+ free ram with pretty much only stock apps. So I figured for my 1GB to be able to function, there must be some serious performance tone down...
If only the LTE band would work here, I would have gotten the mate 2... Hoping for mate 7 to be announced soon to see how thing goes.

[Q] LG G3 for 300$, worth it?

I'm planning to get a new cellphone and I would like to know,
Is the LG G3 worth it for 300 can (about 250 us)(used)?
Is there something I should know before buying it?
Moving from my laggy lg optimus l7, I want to make a good choice, thanks!
I'm about to buy the 16GB/2GB version for 350€ (new) in a couple of days, and I don't have any doubts. I'd much rather pay 350€ for a device this good, than pay twice as much for that Samsung Galaxy S6 or even HTC One M9. So yeah, definitely worth it in my opinion.

I have bought it when it got out in my country and spent around 580-600 euros. I can tell you i have no regrets for buying it. Lg G3 is almost a perfect phone and with rooting +custom roms = you ll fall in love.

Ok i am big fan of Lg and specially for G3 but lets be clear here, S6 has ( meaning hardware all specs and stuff) the best hardware that money can buy right now. Despite that its overpriced I think g4 will be even better at least on the camera lens

I'm talking money here, 350€ vs 700€ is not so small difference, and for this money, I think G3 is a great phone.
I'm looking forward to seeing that G4 will bring, and I already love the design. But then again, it will probably cost around 700€, so I'm still going with the G3 anyways.

G3 has some problems:
1) Overheating while gaming. Thanks to throttling, it doesn't heat enough to damage itself or become hard-to-touch. Plus the phone has some governor problems.
2) Battery life on official 5.0. You won't get more than 5:5.30 SOT while web browsing on 4g.
3) Cracks on casing, happen to a lot of people after several months of use.
4) Audio jack is buggy + some sound problems.
For me, none of there are critical. I only play non-demanding games on phone, there are no problems with Bluetooth stereo headset, 5 h sot is good enough and crack is tiny and only present near IR port.
Phone is pretty fast (if you change governor to conservative), firmware is stable and has some nice features, 2k screen looks gorgeous, and design/size are just right for me. It is worth these 300$ if you ask me.

is this phone junk

i was planning to buy one of these phones but what ive read it seems like alot of issues with it.any imput would be appreciated
For me, it's the best phone i bought. I had a iphone 4s and the Zenfone 2 rocks.
Fast, great screen, 64gb plus another 64gb micro sd, i love the camera quality. The only downside is the battery size. I wish that it would last longer but right now, it's not a big issue for me.
Definitely a great phone to buy.

This is a flagship phone with a small price...
There are little problems here and there but that can be said about ALL phones... Battery is always a problem with the newer phones, the higher screen resolution really eats up battery, and the memory leak from Android 5. 0 probably doesn't help. But saying that, we have 4gb of ram that pretty much kicks arse and, when it came out, was the largest amount of ram in a phone...
I be had my 4g/64 model for 3 months and I can honestly say it is a great deal for the price. Very fast and responsive.

Easy to root and by the magic of Linux Deploy I'm running 64-bit ubuntu 15.04 alongside android. I can take notes in emacs while talking on the phone.
I do recommend upgrading to a quick-charge charger wherever you can. I'm having good success with the tronsmart chargers on amazon.

Before my phone went brick, I was not happy with its memory management. I was starting to run slow after a couple of hours of usage, and it didn't help much after killing apps. Is that the memory leak from Android you refer?
I was just using the stock ROM.
thanks
I got the 128 gig version and honestly have not been happier. Battery life is decent, camera is so so, but multi-tasking is really awesome. The UI is a bit bit cartoonish in parts, but with Nova launcher and some judicious changes in Nova/Dev settings (minor), it never lags, never stutters and is the only android phone outside the nexus family, where twitter for android scrolls properly.
It's an incredible device, for its price point. Enough said

What model?
The 551ML 4gb ram model I use has no issues with memory management and seem to power through anything but there was a few people saying their 550ML model was a little piss poor due to the 2gb they have.
If you have the 550ML then you probably aren't going to have anything improve much due to the physical limitations...
Certainly not junk! I only got the 550 (720p, 1.8 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, no NFC and although fast-charging capable, no fast-charger). But even with this cheaper, lower-spec model, and inspite of some software niggles and could-be-better battery life, I am really enjoying this device. Love how it feels in the hand, love the big screen, love how smooth it is to use. It benchmarks on a par with last-gen flagships but I think the Intel SOC actually performs even better than those figures suggest in actual real-life use. A higher mid-range device's power for low-budget device bucks! The camera is very good, not great but way better than it should be considering the price. As I said, there are little niggles and problems and things which could be better, but they all seem very insignificant when you take into consideration the price. The cost performance ratio of this phone is pretty mind-blowing! It is also great that we have an active xda community and plenty of dev support for our device. I enjoy both the stock ASUS experience (tweaked to my satisfaction, naturally) and the CM experience - so much that I have been flitting back and forth from one to the other with regularity. Overall, not a device I'd recommend to luddite noobs who aren't prepared to put some effort in to get it set up right for them, but for anyone who actually knows a little or is prepared to learn it is a fun device and a great value proposition!
I'm very happy with my Z008
Definitely a great phone to buy.

Actually, my cell phone has ressurected today. And I have the rare 551ML with 2gb ram. It has only 400mb of free RAM right after booting up. So, 1.6gb is consumed with "basic" (bloat) stuff. My phone came rooted. I'm trying to stop and uninstall some stuff, but I didn't have much luck yet.
Thanks

How is multitasking on 3gb version?

Is it ok ?
For social media stuff and so on 3gb ram are still perfectly fine. Only when you want to switch between demanding games or want to use like 10 apps at the same time you will need more.
I would not buy 3 GB anymore. Might regret with next OS version. They are not getting slimmer.
Thanks. I got the 4gb version, wow with the case it looks absolutely gorgeous. Camera is great too.
