Xperia Z produces excellent pics, so why should ZL not have the same quality?

I think there are also many ppl that suggested not to use auto mode in any Sony phone.
Dont use auto mode unless you're in hurry.
Use manual mode and set the iso to 400
Dont use hdr mode in low light condition.Using hdr in low light makes the picture looks washout due to overexposed.
In good lightning condition, turn down the exposure value by -7
Last but not least choose the best metering mode. This affect the amount of light be disturbed to the picture.Found that spot metering is good for macro shooting most of the time. But dont decrease the exposure value too much if not the picture will look dark.
Compared to my xperia arc s and mini pro, xperia zl perform better in all situation with the manual mode but not any better in auto mode thx to the hdr enabled auto mode..

I wouldn't do that as using higher ISO levels with the small image sensors used in handycams always come with increased noise... That's why shots in low light are so critical. Higher ISO levels just cannot make up for the insufficient capability to collect enough light in low light conditions. Speaking of the tiny digicam sensors, of course....
I find the ZL camera better than the phones OP mentioned as well as better than note2/GS3. However, i agree the superior auto mode shouldn't be used often (except in low light) as it results in blurry (less sharp) images. Try burst mode (med settings) or try manual settings as said above and then compare it to other phones. The camera sensor definitely has more to it, only seems crippled by sony's auto mode with aggressive noise reduction .
I have also the same issue
The picture quality is really bad... really really bad (used intelligend automatic setting (donĀ“t know if this is the correct name in english)).
With this setting all pictures look like 16-bit pictures... (which I unfortunately discovered after I took some pictures)
After this I switched to the normal (manual) settings. Here everything is fine so far. The quality is OK.
Here are some Pics I took earlier. Except one was from Yesterday when it was stormy. Click them to make them bigger

Normal HDR
I have been messing with the camera and seems with some settings u can get relativy nice picture. Seems like there is somekind bug in software.

This thread is to resolve all common issues with the camera on the LG G3 and to assist people in knowing how to use specific features to get the most out of the camera software.
Any interesting points raised will be added to the OP. I will try to split it into sections where relevant to make it easier to find what you are looking for.
GENERAL
How to access camera when screen is off
Hold the volume down key
Touch to take picture is not working?
Make sure the menu is not open (three dots in top right hand corner)
SPECIFIC FEATURES

What are the lighting conditions like when you're trying to take a picture? Generally if you're not outdoors and/or in bright light, then the perceived shutter speed can increase due to the lack of manual controls.

Where are your photos being stored, internal storage or an external SD card? These could have an impact on how quickly photos are saved and possibly delay capture. Is your selected storage device getting full or in the case of a SD card, is it a good quality card (what brand, what class etc.)?

Hi guys,
I've noticed it's taking a good 2-3 seconds to focus before taking a picture - is there any way to speed this up? I thought the laser focus was meant to make it pretty instant?
Thanks!

I've noticed it too. It is a bit frustrating
When the conditions are good (nearly perfect), it takes the picture instantly with good focus/quality.
Often if I take a portrait of my girl, it takes a long time... OK, maybe it's because of her  Seriously, it seems that the autofocus doesn't know where to focus (background or foreground).

Tried that and no luck.. Even factory reset the phone and no joy..
Emailed LG support for advice.. I guess I am keen to know if anyone in low light can take several photos one after the other?? Mine has about 3 seconds gap between each photo for indoors shots!!
James
Is there a solution to this yet? I have tried the cyanogenmod camera on my G3 and the speed of focus is amazing, but photo quality is not good enough (I guess this does not use the laser autofocus either).
really just want the G3 stock camera to take photos quickly indoors in low light??
Any ideas?

Hi one of the reasons I'm interested in getting a LG G4 is because it can take raw pictures. There are a few things I'm wondering:
1) Can raw pictures be captured with third party apps?
2) I'm interested in using an external DSLR flash with the LG G4's camera. I wonder if it's possible?
1. The app pro shot can capture raw and does a better job than stock. Search the photo thread for pro shot. But it won't give you a shutter time longer than 0.5s. No 3rd party app will allow 30s shutter.
2. you require a flash with an optical trigger. The external flash has to be setup as a slave. This means looks for a red window on a flash and the idea is the flash on the G4 triggers the bigger flash. Do test this out some optical triggers are more sensitive and will work others won't. Unfortunately led flash on the g4 isn't as powerful as a zenon.
let us know if you find some thing that works. Can get some cool water splashes

I don't think phone LEDs will be powerful enough to trigger my nikon external flashes. I've seen some audio jack converter triggers but they're, unfortunately, exclusively for the iphone only.
Try with different flashes, some might work.
Distance of flash to G4 will matter. Close enough all will work. Question is what is your minimum distance.
Apps for iphones include:
isyncflash
triggertrap (lacks a lot of features on the android version)
not sure about android...

There's some confusion here. I haven't got the G4 yet, I'm just constructing a list of what accessories to buy...

ok, have you tried with any other phone that has an led flash to get the speedlites to trigger. How close does the led have to be.
if that works then g4 should as well.

Mmm, I wonder if optical trigger would work. Smartphone LED flashes are long duration, unlike real camera flashes, so I have to wonder if they would trigger in sync with exposure...
As mentionned in another post, you could check Triggertrap, but on their site they do state that Android doesn't work too well, and their flash trigger isn't compatible with some Nikon flashes either (do check).
Anyway, how would you use your Nikon flashes? Seems rather cumbersome, you might as well use them on your dslr with an eyefi card and transfer afterwards to the phone.
If you are interested in offcamera flash, the iBlazr2 bluetooth LED flash could an interesting accessory, much more portable than a SB flash:

Since I have a foldable umbrella with silver lining that I always carry with me in case of rain, I'm thinking of using it as a light modifier for softer lighting, hence a powerful xenon flash would be necessary.
After all, carrying a single flash in my bag + a phone is way lighter than carrying a DSLR+lens+flash.
Now it looks like the idea is getting more difficult to achieve without making my own electronics and coding my own app... I only intend to use the flash for stills. So a shutter of 1/30s will be fine and should be too hard to get the flash to fire within this long time..
Ok silver umbrella, nice.
I still think that syncing the flash to the camera exposure must be very tricky...
Syncing a continuous (led) light on the other side seems easier, as intended in the iBlazr2. I can see though that it is rather underpowered for your purposes.
Another similar yet more powerful option could be the announced Lume Cube: http://www.lumecube.com/
Obviously these devices are not yet out and there are no reviews.

<sigh> then that idea is out the window. Damn it! The camera is excellent but if only there were more lighting options.
Optical triggers on these flashes are programmed for xenon not led. and nobody makes an led trigger.
what about sound ? would a certain shutter sound be good enough. the flash will most likely be delayed though.
Someone made a bluetooth trigger for iphone
www.tricflash.com
only iphone as they don't have the budget for other devices. It's interesting they mention that the way the iphone camera works was the hardest obstacle. So no chance of this coming to android as cameras can work differently among vendors. Still people are sceptical that bluetooth is fast enough.
When i think back to videos i've seen of studio like photos from phones most were using continuous light. Since your shutter isn't exactly fast, this might be your best bet. I thought you were trying to go for faster exposures.
I got to try a galaxy k zoom in a studio setup once and everything flashed. The cheapest toy camera with a xenon will do it too.
Still the G4 camera interests me.

Hi! Well. It's not like you are walking around with all that equipment in your pocket? What's the real point.?
LG G4 has a great camera for a smartphone. But it's sensor is really small and nothing compared to even 6+ year old DSLRs. Why not get a normal camera for your fixed setup?
Hi i loved LG G4 and that it had LG V10 camera ported to it.
Now i understand that different brand and all but is there a way to port LG V10 camera to HTC phone?
Im mainly looking at manual exposure in video mode because even after all these years HTC video recording is terrible because of framerate.
Whenever i record video in lowish light i get like 20 fps video looks terrible and laggy even tho sensor on this phone is big and can do stable 30fps in low light with a little higher iso because i also have LG V10 with smaller sensor and higher resolution which means much smaller pixel and in manual mode in same scene i put video exposure time at 1/30th or even 1/60th with iso at 600 and i get little noise while being buttery smooth.
Now this has been issue with HTC from OG days and is there a mod or port that i dont know about that can let me control exposure in video mode and i dont mind separate app for that since im using gcam for photos and get some of the best pictures ive ever seen on smartphone, even compared to latest smartphones its in top 3 definitely.
Now back to video, ive seen snapdragon camera and other, none of them does anything to video framerate.
Is there a way to set lowest exposure to 1/30th so that phone does not drop framerate do raise exposure and lower iso.
I personally dont mind grainy video in lower light but man recording campfire i dont need nightvision but for some reason phone tries so hard that it blows highlights and gets laggy as hell.
Some config mods, api mods, apk mods anything to adress this issue,i would be alfa tester for some mods if anyone has time to tinker with it,im more of hardware guy, repairing phones and modding cooling, thermal paste and pads mod, etc.
Software? Not my kind of skill.
So if someone else has some advice or existing mod i havent seen yet let me know i would gladly try it.
Sorry for typos or mistakes typing this on a phone without auto correction
Cheers and thanks in advance

Highly doubt anyone is willing to put in the work to port an LG camera app at this stage of the 10 (2015 flagship) but I cannot speak for others.
I also don't really use my camera outside normal shots so I don't have good experience with vid framerate, etc.
I will suggest that you try out the Google camera ports if you haven't already.
I have tried gcam for video but its terrible compared to stock,in gcam video recording i get stuttering an what not.
I know old phone custom development is over.
Also how it that there is no some universal camera that can use those core features available on other phones.
Unless LG uses some sort of asic for camera but i doubt it since LG V10 camera can be ported on other LG phones like G4.

I have tried other mods and setting but in any case when i pan camera its stuttery on gcam and didnt try gcam in low light tho.
Only thing i need basically is ti limit minimum fps to 30 because it drops to 20 or so in low light and panning from lets say bright window to darker room suddenly video looks blurry and smeared because of shutter speed.
Im on custom rom Leedroid using Elementalx kernel not overcloked or underclocked.
Any ideas what to try,its not professional camera i know and i dont shoot movies with infact i dont shoot maybe 2 times a week short video and i eork ina gaming club where light is dimm and sometimes some promo video needs to be recorded for social media and it looks terrible and overexposed even tho ist dark cause camera is launching shutter speed into the sky to make up for low light.
I used professional camera in full manual mode to record conferences and things like that and shutter speed half of frame time like 30 fps max exposure 1/30th but you put it to 1/60th to make video look smooth as,and only change ISO and aperture to change how bright shot is.
In any case any kernel api config profilesxml file to change that because i have LG V10 and with that things manual camera i can do wonders for video cause at the end of the day best camera is the one that you have with you all the time, amarite?
Thanks for the answer tho u will try some other ports and test just in case i missed something.
I only used apk ports,do i need flashable zip for better and more stable ports?
Any android camera experts out there feel free to add some smart teach heavy solutions.
Thanks in advance.
