(Q) Slow Autofocus - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I've noticed it's taking a good 2-3 seconds to focus before taking a picture - is there any way to speed this up? I thought the laser focus was meant to make it pretty instant?
Thanks!

I've noticed it too. It is a bit frustrating
When the conditions are good (nearly perfect), it takes the picture instantly with good focus/quality.
Often if I take a portrait of my girl, it takes a long time... OK, maybe it's because of her  Seriously, it seems that the autofocus doesn't know where to focus (background or foreground).

If it's having trouble. Does tap to focus not work?

That's the one I've been using, literally just tapping to shoot. Not sure what's causing the delay...

same here
my autofocus is off cant get faster shooting of camera... how to fix this?

Really need help with this too!!

Check to see if HDR is on. If it is, turn it off and try again.

Didn't work

Tried that and no luck.. Even factory reset the phone and no joy..
Emailed LG support for advice.. I guess I am keen to know if anyone in low light can take several photos one after the other?? Mine has about 3 seconds gap between each photo for indoors shots!!
James

Is there a solution to this yet? I have tried the cyanogenmod camera on my G3 and the speed of focus is amazing, but photo quality is not good enough (I guess this does not use the laser autofocus either).
really just want the G3 stock camera to take photos quickly indoors in low light??
Any ideas?
James

I wish NEGRI didnt wait freaking 4 freaking days to ship mine or I`d be doing my review tommrow or tuesday when I was SUPPOSED to get it
Xperia Z produces excellent pics, so why should ZL not have the same quality?

I think there are also many ppl that suggested not to use auto mode in any Sony phone.
Dont use auto mode unless you're in hurry.
Use manual mode and set the iso to 400
Dont use hdr mode in low light condition.Using hdr in low light makes the picture looks washout due to overexposed.
In good lightning condition, turn down the exposure value by -7
Last but not least choose the best metering mode. This affect the amount of light be disturbed to the picture.Found that spot metering is good for macro shooting most of the time. But dont decrease the exposure value too much if not the picture will look dark.
Compared to my xperia arc s and mini pro, xperia zl perform better in all situation with the manual mode but not any better in auto mode thx to the hdr enabled auto mode..

I wouldn't do that as using higher ISO levels with the small image sensors used in handycams always come with increased noise... That's why shots in low light are so critical. Higher ISO levels just cannot make up for the insufficient capability to collect enough light in low light conditions. Speaking of the tiny digicam sensors, of course....
I find the ZL camera better than the phones OP mentioned as well as better than note2/GS3. However, i agree the superior auto mode shouldn't be used often (except in low light) as it results in blurry (less sharp) images. Try burst mode (med settings) or try manual settings as said above and then compare it to other phones. The camera sensor definitely has more to it, only seems crippled by sony's auto mode with aggressive noise reduction .
I have also the same issue
The picture quality is really bad... really really bad (used intelligend automatic setting (donĀ“t know if this is the correct name in english)).
With this setting all pictures look like 16-bit pictures... (which I unfortunately discovered after I took some pictures)
After this I switched to the normal (manual) settings. Here everything is fine so far. The quality is OK.
Here are some Pics I took earlier. Except one was from Yesterday when it was stormy. Click them to make them bigger
Yesterday
AUTO
BURST
Normal HDR
I have been messing with the camera and seems with some settings u can get relativy nice picture. Seems like there is somekind bug in software.

Are you being sarcastic? If not its an IR laser so think of a TV remote, which I seriously doubt we'll cause any ill effects.

What are the lighting conditions like when you're trying to take a picture? Generally if you're not outdoors and/or in bright light, then the perceived shutter speed can increase due to the lack of manual controls.

Where are your photos being stored, internal storage or an external SD card? These could have an impact on how quickly photos are saved and possibly delay capture. Is your selected storage device getting full or in the case of a SD card, is it a good quality card (what brand, what class etc.)?

Camera tips and tricks

Does anyone know how to stop the camera app from flashing twice before you take a night pic? I had a note 2 and it was very fast taking night pics. One flash and bam all good. Note 4 you have to wait a couple of seconds.

Yes, I would like to know this too.
I'd like to know if there's any way we can manually set the shutter and ISO (and I mean beyond the 200 through 800 options.) I'm pretty sure we can't natively which really blows.
There is an app call Camera FV-5. Has a little more available settings. I think 100-1600 ISO. There is a lite version so you can check it out.

I guess I'm blind but I have never notice that double flash when taking a night picture...
The only time there is a night mode for pictures on Note 4 is when I turn on the flash ? There is no actual night mode like it was in different galaxy models ?

So try to take a night shot. The phone flashes once then again right before it snaps pic. Am I doing something wrong?
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 4!
The first flash is to aquire focus, the second is to take the picture.
So if you pre-focus the picture you will only get one flash and if you don't it will focus with the first flash and then flash the 2nd time when you are taking the picture. Am I understanding this correctly ?

That sure slows things down. I would like the option to turn that off.

OK i returned my phone for some other defected reason. Got my new phone and tried the camera with flash. Now it's super fast. My old note 4 would take a second or two to take a flash pic. The new note does it all within a second. Glad I returned it or I would of never known it was a real issue.
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 4!
I've noticed mine do both. It seems to depend on the lighting conditions and distance from the subject. It could be my eye playing tricks on me, but it also seems like the more of a delay there is before the second flash, the brighter the flash is. Almost like it needs to build a charge to get brighter like an old-fashioned speedlight.

[Q] LG G3's HDR mode on is taking only one photo

Hi,
While playing with the LG G3's HDR mode turned on, I realized that it takes only one photo. Should it not take multiple(two to three) photos at different exposures(high and low) and then combine those into one?
Thanks!

It does take few shots with different exposures, it just does it relatively fast and the outcome is 1 photo. LG has done pretty good job with HDR if you ask me.

Perhaps the laser focus comes into play and things happen super quick!!! :cyclops:

[Q] Is there any solution to very slow autofocus?!?

My LG G3 has very slow autofocus, sometimes it needs 3-4 minutes to autofocus, why? There is a solution?!?
Mine is lightning fast. What you say doesn't make sense.. Are you sure you're not using a case that's blocking the laser focus on the back?

Sorry... but 3-4 minutes? you sure? that sounds very strange...
do you see the laser light? do you have the same problem in plain light day? sorry for all the questions but it's just that 3-4 minutes sounds really strange, :S
It's like a "cold" autofocus/camera app open problem: it takes long time to focus for the first time but then it is very fast until I close the camera app. If I close the app, the autofocus need time to re-work correctly...
Have you checked if exist any protection plastic in it?
My friend have a g3 more than 3 months and he never notice that .. I needed to get their MicroSD and I see it and removed
Its a very tiny blue plastic.
