You are correct, I bought one from Amazon at £99 without looking into unlocking it first. O2 have said I must use it with an o2 sim (PAYG or contract) for 12 months, then they will give me an unlock code which will cost £15. I bought a £10 PAYG sim to try the phone, and the signal in my area is so rubbish that the phone is forever 'searching' for o2 this was despite being told I'd get 4 bars on 3g, and 3 bars on 4g at home. Amazon have sent another phone for me to try, which arrived this morning, but it's exactly the same. Unless I can unlock the phone, it's a complete 'lemon' for me, and will be going back to Amazon. If anyone has had any success in unlocking one, I'd be incredibly grateful for any info, as from what I've seen playing about with the phone on wi-fi, its a good wee gadget and the price was good!

As you purchased the phone outright, without contract or subsidy. O2 have to unlock it.
I have raised a complaint with them as they gave me the 12 month nonsense also. Complaint is with the Exec team.
OfCom details below
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/oftel/consumer/advice/faqs/mobfaq3.htm
EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (Directive 2005/29/EC of 2005 also covers this as they are enforcing an unfair minimum period

How did you raise your complaint, what avenue ? Would like to submit one also....

Htc Code - Good unlock service

Just thought i would post another mention for htccode.com, got my unlock code this morning and they were very informative and fast to reply via email.

T-Mobile takes upto a month. HTC Code took a day.
If one needs to unlock and can't wait, it is an option, but if one needs it unlocked say in 2 months for their trip abroad, I don't see why use the services provided under this link... unless the price goes under £15...

T-mobile response about unlocking the desire is this.
You cannot request an unlock code <subsidy pin> for the first month you own the phone, after than you can request it and it takes upto 28 days to recieve that code.
So you are looking at 2months from now for the desire.

Odd, the chap at t-mobile I spoke to (0845 412 5000, though I think it's just the 150 equivalent number for landlines) just ordered the code for my new Desire, to arrive via snailmail in 14-28 days. Very pleasant about it too, which hasn't always been my experience with providers and SIM-unlocks.
Edit: ...though, I was already a t-mob customer, so I wonder if they only have a months delay for new customers, so they don't get scammed by folk with fake bank/cc details.

I had previously tried 2 other services and both of them said they can do it then couldnt, but these are saying they defo can do it. The other guys on ebay have both refunded my money so nothing lost there.

O2 UK network unlock code

Can anybody recommend a service/ebay seller that will be able to provide an unlock code for my O2 locked Galaxy Nexus?
I know O2 will unlock it for free but I don't want to wait 14 days to receive the code.
Thanks,
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form
Its not free and its not 14 days, I have done it many times, 2-4 days.
I have spoken to a customer services rep who have informed that because I bought the phone on contract it can be unlocked for free and will take upto 14 days.
I don't wait to give O2 more money for unlocking or wait a couple of days to be able to use my new phone.
Have any ebay sellers started to generate the unlock codes?

So I bought this note 3 from this lady on craigslist. Its a T-Mobile note 3. I specifically asked her if it was paid off and she said yes. Well as it turns out the phone isn't paid off. So I'm pretty sure it's going you be blacklisted soon.
My question is this; since T-Mobile provided me the unlock code for the device and the device is now factory unlocked. What options does that give me one the phone is blacklisted ion the near future?

If not, then you're good.
If yes, file a police report and take her to a small claim court. It's very easy to do this, no lawyer needed.
Swappa says my old s3 I still have is financed. But is not. I know I bought I t newm been paid off for 2 months. Looks like slow reporting.

In what Country is this practice illegal? In the US I can take pictures of whomever I please doing whatever they happen to be doing in public. In Public, there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. Not challenge going your moderator status, but people misrepresent laws all the time.... like the Police do.
I was under the impression that the owner of the device has to call for the unlock code. The OP is saying he received an unlock code from T-Mobile for a phone registered to someone else? I'm also under the impression that you have to use a phone on T-Mobiles network for a certain number of days before they will provide the code.
Unlock requirements
We provide mobile device unlock codes free of charge within two business days (or provides further information about timing) for eligible devices.
Device eligibility is determined as follows:
The device must be a T-Mobile device.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked to T-Mobile.
The account associated with the device must be in good standing.
You have requested no more than 2 mobile device unlock codes per line of service in the last 12 months.
The device must satisfy all the Postpaid or Pay in Advance (Prepaid) Unlocking terms outlined below.
Unlock Eligibility for Monthly Phones and Tablets
The device must have been active on the T-Mobile network for at least 40 days on the requesting line.
If the device was financed using T-Mobile’s Equipment Installment Plan (EIP), then all payments must be satisfied and the device must be paid in full.
If the device is on an account that has are under a service contract term, then at least 18 consecutive monthly payments must have been made or the account was migrated to Simple Choice no contract rate plan.
If the device is associated with a canceled account, then the account balance must be zero.
T-Mobile may request proof of purchase or additional information in its discretion and certain other exceptions may apply.
Unlock Eligibility for Pay in Advance (Prepaid) Phones and Tablets
The device has been active on the T-Mobile network for more than 1 year.
If the device has been active for less than 1 year, then the Pay in Advance account associated with the device must have had more than $25 in refills for basic phones or $100 in refills for smartphones or tablet since device first use date.
T-Mobile may request proof of purchase or additional information in its discretion and certain other exceptions may apply.

Are you able to cancel the pre-order up until the phone ships? Are you charged right away or only once it ships? I'd be willing to lock in a pre-order on the unlocked edition under the assumption that it will in fact work for Verizon at the $599 price but only if I can cancel if we find that to not be the case.
Is there a time limit on how long the $100 off code will be valid?
Canadians can use the code HTCCA1008 to get a 100$ reduction and free shipping so its 900$ CAD instead of 1008$
None of the codes are working in Germany.

The system seems buggy. I had to submit a couple of times, and then they emailed me someone else's code! But the one that came up on the screen worked, at least in the sense that the order form accepted it. It didn't give me another $100 off. But the T&C on the credit says it can't be combined with anything else.

Question Suggestions on unlocking service

I switched from T-mobile to Verizon thinking that I could just continue paying the monthly installments and use it on the Verizon network. Now I am paying $30/mo for a phone that doesn't work on my network. There are a bunch of sites that claim to unlock your device but they very widely in price. Does anyone have experience using a service like this? Any suggestions on which to use?
Try to find a free method. A lot of the sites are legit, but I can not vouch for specific one?

I have use SIMDoctor in the past, you can usually find a coupon code or something to get it cheaper.
I am trying to find an unlock for AT&T right now, going overseas for 6+ months and I'm not spending $1,800 for their garbage "Day Passes", and it's financed so they won't unlock it.
Unfortunately, at least for AT&T, none of these unlocking services have the unlock codes. Seems like AT&T went out of their way to make sure people can't unlock early.
Thank goodness that the U.K. banned carrier locked phones a year ago...

That should be one of the special requests that you can get them to unlock it if the phone is paid off or not, have you tried calling and letting them know you have to leave the country for work? It's worth a shot sense it should be free

Yeah; They gave me two options, pay for "Day Pass" (roughly $1,800 if I stay as long as I'm scheduled) or pay off the phone ($1,600). If I pay off the phone, I was told they'd remove my trade in promotion credits (which was $1,000).
