Bit of history here :
I had rooted and flashed TWRP etc prior to 4.4.4
Once 4.4.4 came out OTA nagging annoyed me, so i went back to stock, stock recovery, unrooted but still S-OFF running Super CID.
4.4.4 then took via OTA no problem.
Nothing has changed on phone since. Yet lollipop OTA won;t take (Red Exclamation).
I'm on 3.28.401.9 (shown via settings)
Bootloader shows :

As far as i'm aware, i'm on a fresh flash of an OTA upgraded KitKat, with stock recovery?
Any ideas why new OTA won't work?
Thanks in advance.
i have the exact same problem with exact same ROM HBOOT and cid !
only thing is my htc is rooted ..

I was unrooted and it didn't work. I then rooted it and tried again - still didn't work.
I've given up and am downloading the lollipop RUU to blast the whole thing back to standard.
looks like the only way for now
I had the same problem. Flashed a Nandroid for my device, went back to stock recovery for that backup and did not root. Worked a treat and I'm now on Lollipop. I'd suggest you try the same.

Copy OTA zip to your laptop. Unzip it and find framwork.zip. use 7zip to browse firmware zip and extract recovery.img and flash this one, erase cache and try to install OTA. I had same problem by doing this OTA got installed.

hi guys, today i updated my stock rom with the latest ruu from the shipped rom sticky, then was prompted about an ota which i updated and am now running 2.14.401.1.
i flashed latest clockwork recovery from bootloader, and from cwm flashed superuser which was all fine and the icon is sitting in my app draw, but none of my apps are being granted superuser access all are denied.
Another strange thing is im s-off and have been for a long long time, but now in bootloader it still states im s-off but at the top it says locked.
should i flash an older ruu to downgrade hboot or has anyone got another suggestion.
thanks guys.
edit: heres the info from my bootloader

But *** LOCKED *** in the bootloader is bugging me and I'm baffled

You are S-OFF, so NAND protection is also disabled.
If ***LOCKED*** is still buggin' you download my bootloader controller here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530864
Flash it in cwm and from the menu choose unlock.
Any idea why superuser don't work on that Rom?
Well, I don't even know the reason for the update.
it's a fota containing hboot 1.09.0099. this is the htcdev hboot which voids warranty.
And another funny thing is: I don't get the update message. not even when returning to stock.

Did you try modding your brand new phone without reading and fully understanding the instructions given?
lol!!!
RUUs are only available for some US networks. What is your MID/CID?
You can find FUUs here, if that's any help.
If you have already updated to 4.4.4, just flash a Sense based ROM, and see if that works.
He was with a Custom ROM. SENSE But it was taking longer to start the system. That's when I discovered that he and GPE official. GPE installation made up by Philz. Then I put recovery original. And try a OTA update. After that no more started the android system is only in fastboot. Already tried to flash with Philz. But the error in time to do the flash.

The first step is unlocked the bootloader
Next flash TWRP then sideload or push a Rom to the phone to get it booting

Hi guys
I'm really hoping you guys can help me.
So I have a M8 unlocked in the UK and i'm currently running ARHD 7.0 which is Android 4.4.2. I have never run any Android version higher than this on this device.
I'm trying to update to a Lollipop version of ARHD so I downloaded the latest ROM, tried to flash and ended up hanging at the HTC logo. I was kind of expecting this as I am currently using TWRP v2.7.0.2 and I understand most Lollipop ROMs require the latest version (2.8.4.0 I believe). The problem is that when I flash the latest TWRP, I get stuck at "Entering Recovery..." so I'm unable to continue.
I also understand I need to update the firmware but I was hoping somebody could confirm which version would be compatible with my device?
I've included all the details from my bootloader just in case it's of any help.
Thanks for the help guys

Hello. I can help you.
Download this onto your phone.
Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and place it onto the root of your extSD.
Boot into bootloader, and pick hboot.
Follow the prompts (vol up to flash, power to reboot when done).
Congratulations, you now have the latest firmware (4.16.401.10 ~ Lollipop) and TWRP 2.8.4.0 :good:
Delete the firmware zip from extSD when you are done, otherwise every time you boot into hboot, it'll try to update again.
Hi xunholyx
Thanks for your reply.
Just downloading now.
Awesome! So I have the latest firmware and TWRP is loading. Downloading skydragon now to give GPe a try. Can you suggest any nice ROMs?
Thanks for your help
So, I picked up a used HTC 10 yesterday, stock Nougat kinda sucks in terms of battery life and I want to switch to RR, however, my previous 2 HTC's had been S-OFF'd by me to switch them to the .401 WWE firmware, however this one is already on .401 so I don't want to get S-OFF since I don't really need it.
If I was to unlock the bootloader and flash RR, and then, want to go back to stock, how would I go about it?
As far as I know, there aren't any RUUs available for 2.41.401.41, so would flashing an older RUU work, and then taking an OTA to the newer firmware?
This is what download mode says:

You can't flash an older RUU while S-On.
First off, unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone, so there is that.
To backup the stock ROM: After unlocking the bootloader and flashing TWRP, do a backup in recovery before flashing SuperSU. Then to take the OTAs, you will only need to restore that backup and then flash the stock recovery.
To get the stock recovery you could do a search for it.
Or you could download the OTA,
Transfer that to your PC,
Open it with 7zip,
Search for the recovery.zip in it,
Then flash that.
Chances are that an RUU.zip for x.xx.401.x will be posted here on XDA soon after it is released, so that is probably the best way to go.
Do a backup in TWRP,
Flash the RUU.zip,
Restore your backup. That way you'll have the new firmware.

So, I kinda crapped myself since I jumped the gun and flashed RR without making a TWRP backup and in the RUU collection thread, the latest one in the first post is older than the one I have, however a few pages down, someone was kind enough to post the RUU, OTA and TWRP backup for the exact 401 build that I was running.
Going back to stock is going to be a piece of cake now.
Cheers.
