[Q] Restore stock recovery without ODIN due to broken usb port - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I received the OTA for Lollipop, but I can't install it because I have a custom recovery. I need to install stock recovery, but my USB port is messed up and I can't use ODIN to flash the image. Is there a way to flash stock recovery without using ODIN or the USB port at all? Thanks!

Unfortunately it's not Lollipop, only a security update (still 4.4.2), I don't believe there is any other way.

Couldnt you use Chainfire's mobile odin to flash stock kernel and recovery, triangle away device status to Official, unroot via supersu app, and accept update, along after the update, follow CNexus's guide to re-root without a PC?
Or does the Knox 0x1 bit still prevent you from updating O_O?

Mobile Odin is a bad idea in this instance, high potential to brick you device trying to flash stock that way. I would honestly say spend the $45 and have one of those repair places replace the port

Ah okay, i know it is bad flashing full firmwares through mobile odin. Didnt know itd be bad doing recovery and kernel only.

[Q] Rooting problems

Hello i've some problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2.
Last week i updated my phone on Android 4.3 version.
Unfortunelly i had a wifi bug and I couldn't connect to internet, so I decided to downgrade it to 4.1.2. I've flashed my stock ROM with the newest one. (thanks to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102380 )
Afterward, i would rooting my phone and install custom binary CWM by this thread, option 2.
However i can't modifiy system files. I consequently would verify my status root by Titanium Backup. And that's really strange because it is already rooted.

So i'd like to know how to resolve my problem, i how to modify system files?
(PS: sorry for my bad English!)
PS2: That's the same thing if i connect it on SSH/FTP protocols, unable to modify too.
I have T889 version and I just updated today with 4.3 with no problem.
I would say the best thing is just start from scratch and reinstall your app.
I don't even use TB anymore, I used to but I just happen to run into problem a lot.
I decided to just reinstall apps everytime I flash rom.

Try using the Odin again and when you full wipe don't even do anything just update to the original 4.3 via Tmobile.
After that install CWM or TWRP, Like I said I never had any issues installing Rom back and forth.
Just don't skip a step and never rush things.

I didin't understood that happened to me,
After several minutes and after downloading an alternative file explorer, SU granted to me to modify system files.

Thank you :good::cyclops:
Use Kingo root app. Far easiest method.
I'm assuming you do not have a KNOX firmware installed so that's great for you - do NOT perform any software updates from Samsung!
The best method is still using the original method. Remember to flash the kernel if you are staying with the Samsung rom after the root.

Or if you do not feel up to the slightly more technical challenge then you can use the app as mentioned above

How do I check if KNOX firmware is installed?
Boot into download mode.
If there is a line that shows KNOX in it while in download mode then you have a KNOX firmware.

Great, there is no KNOX! :cyclops::good:
Is there a way to flash newer official firmware without including KNOX any other precautions I should take before rooting and flashing a custom recovery?
Kind Regards

[Q] need help with gs3

Hello, i just purchased a new galaxy s3 virgin mobile edition..
I had like 6 updates when i turned it on and now i am on 4.4.2 kitkat which it's called kot in the system file..
Anyways i have been searching and searching for an easy oneclick root program..
I haven't been able to find anything that works at all...
So i am here to ask everyone on here..
Is there an easy sure fire way to root the galaxy s3 vm version?
That doesn't involve changing the rom or flashing something that might break something or brick my phone...
What happened to samsung? They used to be so easy to root and unlock it was like melting butter...
Thanks in advance
TowelRoot... Philz recovery has a one click root. Plenty of options. NDC is what your firmware is called BTW.

What I just told you to do (Philz Recovery, use the one that ends in ".tar.md5" in Odin- turn off auto reboot in Odin, it helps) then hit Reroot in Philz Settings after you get into Recovery, go into the Play Store and download SuperSU and go into the app and update binaries. This method is tried and true for your device.
My ROM: WICKED X
Do you have a link to the Philz root page?
I'll try it if I feel like it's not gonna brick my phone. Never had to root through Odin..
Thanks

All major initial root methods always ask you to flash a custom recovery through Odin always.
What he explained is correct you are just going to flash Phil's custom recovery then boot it into recovery click re-root and once booted install SU and update binaries.

SoftBrick After upgrading to M919UVUFNK2

Hi All, Got A bit of a problem cant seem to figure this out
I was upgrading to Stock M919UVUFNK2 I got the file from Shineyside stock Tar files it was a 2.5 Gb file from his Mega account I believe
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/firmwares-official-mdl-mk2-nb4-t2816508
and was following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/help/nb4-to-nh7-firmware-upgrade-via-odin-t2880284
so after I upgraded Via Odin everything passed I rebooted the phone but it was stuck in a boot loop screen from T-Mobile for almost 2 hours
I Pulled the battery the put it back in and rechargred my phone for a bit then I tried to reinstall M919UVUFNK2 via Odin again then it failed now I get this Screen

I have tried several times to reinstall NK2 but it keeps failing now in Odin
When I try and go into recovery I get the screen above.
I still can get in to Download mode though
Can someone help me out or point me in the right direction I even tried Kies 3 and it always stops at about 96% same with Odin

appreciate the help
Ok Fixed it after many hours of searching it was right under my nose , I flashed the latest TWRP Tar file Via Odin and Viola Stock Rom is working M919UVUFNK2, now unto the root
Good luck with the root, I've soft bricked about 5 times so far trying to flash SU and TWRP. For some reason when the M919UVUFNK2 firmware came out my phone did a auto ota which baffles me since root/SU stop carrier access for ota. All info I've found on downgrading to 4.4.2 will brick the device to :/

It depends how root was acquired, if system files are modified, kernel, or recovery, then it won't OTA. NK2 is rootable, and I've also had no problems installing twrp. Must be something you're doing. What is your procedure?

Moving back to stock from Cyanogenmod

Hi all, I just dug up my old S3 and need to go back to stock. It has a CM11 nightly on there with the MK3 baseband and CWM recovery (and no Knox loaded!). Needless to say, I've been out of the loop for the past year or so and all of these threads about Odin and the newer updates have my head spinning! I want to go back to stock but also want the ability to re-root and load a different ROM later on. If I use the Odin one click here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755793), would this cause any problem with re-rooting, recovery, or whatever else? I was burned on my newer Droid MAXX when I updated to a firmware that couldn't be rooted so I don't want that to happen in this case if possible.
TL;DR
If I'm on Cyanogenmod with MK3 (no Knox bootloader), what's the safest way to go back to stock with the ability to re-root later?
Thanks!

Yes, that is fine and can be easily rerooted.

But if I was to use the one-click, wouldn't that load Knox and that would be permanently disabling any downgrading in the future? If I just flashed the stock 4.3 ROM and installed as normal through CWM, that should keep everything the same (bootloader, modem, etc) correct?
Yes... 4.3 has Knox by the way.
I flashed the 4.3 ROM and haven't had any issues so far. Still managed to avoid installing Knox somehow. Download mode doesn't mention anything about a warranty bit.
