Hi,
This morning, I received the OTA update for Android L. I downloaded it but when I tried to install it, at about 2/3 minutes after it started, the little "!" icon turned red and my phone restarted. I tried an other time and it failed again..
A couple of months ago, I've installed on my device the Stock ROM (odexed version) and the Stock Recovery for Android 4.4.2 (for the HTC One M8, obviously). Everything went well. Then, I was able to update to 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 thanks to the OTA updates without any issues.
How can I install this new OTA update ?
For your information, on my bootloader, I can read "Software status: Modified", "Relocked" and "S-OFF". My CID is 11111111.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I've got the same problem! Any help/guidance would be appreaciated.
It is same to me too .Just tried for second time and update was failed !
Same problem. I've just relocked the bootloader and return to S-On -> Same problem
I'm also having this problem, S-Off'd but stock firmware.
I'm also having this problem, i have s-on, and stock recovery, bootloader status modified.
You all guys have a modified system or firmware, thats the reason why you have Modified in bootloader.
Download the 4.16.401.10 RUU or 3.28.401.9 Nandroid.. Then flash 3.28.401.9 stock firmware and get your OTA.
btw @mosk59 the biggest mistake you did is going back to S-ON.. i would never do that.

My system / firmware is pure stock. When I am in bootloader it says "Software Status: Official" - I am S-off, and I had cid: 11111111, just changed to HTC__Y13 and tried again, same result

It doesn't give an error, it just shows a red exclamation mark in a Triangle.
I'm pretty sure I don't have any modified system files.
Is there anyway I can flash the files you are quoting and still keep my apps and data?

People should learn to make a full stock backup so they don't run into these situations.....it's the basic to start with !

Hi DeboNZ are you able to get JB OTA? I had flash the recovery attached here but I still couldn't flash the OTA (OTA is already available), at recovery mode, it running for a while then at 10%+ it show an error image (phone with exclamation mark).
Do I miss something? I didn't relock it since

You can update the phone with a unlocked bootloader, the rest has to be stock.
Stock rom
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Did u remove some system apps or made changes to the system ?
That could also cause a problem !

I do delete some system apps come with One X Asia (like singtel app etc), but does that really stop the OTA from working??
Beside this I had downloaded

That could be the problem, and do you have a branded phone or not ? What CID do you have ? the versions match but is it the right one for your CID ?
The ruu did not work because
A : you have a branded phone and need a different ruu
B : you didn't RELOCK the bootloader before running the ruu
trumpo1 criterion

To run the RUU, you need only to relock the bootloader, put your device in fastboot mode and run the RUU. That's it, not necessary to flash back stock boot and recovery images.
I can RUU successfully, but now I couldn't get JB OTA, it keep saying Update is corrupted. Follow some recommended from other thread saying do a master reset but doesn't help. Anyone have better idea?

Hey folks.
So I was running CM11 on my Rogers M8 for quite some time, until I decided to flash Sense based roms. Uh-oh, Wifi doesnt work anymore. Decided to do some digging, and realized that it's due to my older firmware which needs to be updated.
I followed the guides, and did the following to prepare:
Flashed stock recovery. I know it worked due to the triangle and explamation mark.
Relocked the bootloader through ADB commands.
Proceeded to ADB "fastboot getvar all" to see my current version.
That's when I saw that right next to the "version-main" it's empty. No numbers. Consequently, I haven't been able to flash any firmwares since it never passes any checks.
I am S-ON (firewater didnt work), CID is ROGER001, and completely exhausted. Please, help me figure this out.

What do you mean each time?
You can flash stock firmware without going back to stock. As long as your MID and CID match.
Just download stock rogers firmware, rename and install it in hboot, or use RUU mode in fastboot.

Here are all the files to download to go back to stock rogers. Download and zip them, then use TWRP to flash. Afterwards you will just have to install a stock recovery to be fully stock, but if you don't carte about OTAs, stick with TWRP. That way you can make nandroid backups.
EDIT: I'm mistaken here. You need them unzipped. PM sent.
For others with the same issue of returning to Canadian stock, go to this thread for links and a guide on how to do so.

The getvar tell me, you are S-ON.
But you need S-OFF to flash a new firmware.
Otherwise you brick your phone.
That the firmware number is not showing is not critical i think. Its a symtom of some roms.
I flashed the newest firmware to my m7, number was showing. Then i flash Viper 7.0.1 and after that, my number is hidden.
But everything works, so i think its not critical.

Not true, you can flash the latest firmware if you're S-ON, the only "catch" is that it MUST be the correct MID and CID(That's in Firmware.zip) else it won't flash.
It's also the only way for an S-ON device to update it's Radio, as it won't be able to manually flash Radio's if it's not S-OFF.
Of course you need to relock your bootloader to do this with S-ON. So get stock recovery also, of course make backups of everything you need backed up as relocking it might erase all data.

Since you are S-On you will have to go back to stock to take the OTAs to update your firmware (contains hboot). That means stock recovery and ROM, plus an unmodified system partition.
If you were to go S-Off, you could update the firmware manually.

You don't need to be S-Off to flash the backups. You just need the ones that match your CID and firmware/hboot.
You can find the 3.19 hboot .img files to flash with a simple google search (I just tried). Make sure that is the proper one for your model, and please realize that the hboot is a critical part of your phone and any corruption will brick your device.

Hasn't been updated since it was rooted I see. And that was two years ago. That's a long time.
Hook up to your PC, get into ADB/fastboot, and enter the command fastboot getvar all. Remove your IMEI and serial# first (and MEID if you have one) because that is private info that you should never share on a public forum.
With the information from the getvar, I will be able to direct you on the proper firmware download.
Telling me the hboot version doesn't tell me enough to link you up. It does let me know however, that instructions on how to update aren't enough. You need direction on how to find the firmware for your particular model of M8.
I'll also give you instructions on how to flash the firmware.
You could also go to this thread instead, and learn on your own. It's all in the first couple of posts. It's very informative.
Of course you can post back here after if you have any questions about the process

If you were soff then you could return to full stock, just unlocking the boot loader then relocking it will show the tempered flag, personally never wanted to go back to stock for an ota so not 100% as to whether it'll work, a fair few people have said returning to stock and then accepting the ota is a way to get the firmware upgraded so I assume that it's OK.
If its not then it'll just fail. Shouldn't break anything, ota should always leave a way back

I think you have to flash an untouched system image for your device to take OTA that way. Why not just run the RUU for the new software/firmware?

That's correct. I wasn't disagreeing with anything. Just saying Sunshine S-Off is $25, not $20...unless it's been discounted since I did it.
But no matter what you do, once your device status in bootloader changes to modified, you can't change it back to "official" without s-off.

That's what my understanding is too. After installing TWRP take stock backup before rooting. Then install backup before taking OTA. One question though. SuperSU has an option to remove root. Will have to try this on the next OTA.

rename the RUU.zip to 0PJAIMG.ZIP, place it on a ext sd card formatted in FAT32 (a 16 or 32gig one should work), reboot into DOWNLOAD_MODE, agree and it should flash.

With s-off it will not change back to modified again

After it's relocked, it'll still say tampered.
Sorry to bother, could someone help me please? http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/conversion-to-developer-edition-t3151596
Thanks!

m9 do not say tampered - they say Official or Modified
as far as I know the 0PJAIMG.ZIP method works on s-on also ... (never tried it though)

Sorry I meant modified
I've never had to do it, but what would be the point of it if you could just flash that zip and you're back to stock?

I don't understand your question "what would be the point of it if you could just flash that zip and you're back to stock?"
if you use the 0PJAIMG.ZIP flash method it resets the phone to Official (isn't that what this thread is about ?)
with s-on the 0PJAIMG.ZIP would have to be your current firmware version or newer (you need s-off to go backwards)
this is all in theory as I have never flashed the 0PJAIMG.ZIP with s-on but it should work
OMJ describes using it with s-on here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/development/ruu-sprint-htc-one-m9-1-32-651-17-t3073355
Those are Sprint files but the method is the same

I don't think they'll work. It'll still say modified.
Hello everybody! I have m9 with unlocked bootloader, s-off, stock recovery and not rooted. Atm i have a problem with manual ota 5.1 installation via stock recovery (Status 7). That very strange because 5.0.1 nad 5.0.2 updates was installed successfully without any manipulations and accessing recovery. Maybe return to s-on and locking bootloader will solve this problem? How can i get s-on? And can i get it without full wipe?
Your problem is not being s-off, so forget that. S-off should be viewed as a one-way trip.
What exactly is the error you're getting?

I thought that installation problem is related to some modifications. All i've done are bootloader unlock, s-off and cid changing.
Ok i'll try to describe error message.

This package is for "htc_himauhl" devices; this is "htc_himaul".

You not update OTA by TWRP (must be a stock recovery)

Your problem is system version
You can not upgrade the system to 2.10.401.1 if your current system version 1.32.401.17 ... OTA has to be in sequence
So, first OTA to 1.40.401.8 (the whole system) and then to 2.10.401.1

I do not know whether it was released OTA with 1.32.401.17 to 1.40.401.8, you checked the settings / about / software updates?

are flashing firmware separately??
If I understand correctly, you have unlocked bootloader and are S-OFF. If yes, then you could flash the combined_no_wipe 2.10.401.1 firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243
then restore the untouched 2.10.401.1 stock-system ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62661172&postcount=470
then you'll be on stock 2.10.401.1
PS: do not lock bootloader, and do not ever go S-ON
ok buddy your problem is not soff at all, the problem is you need to re-lock bootloader so ota can apply, must be phone, unrooted, re-locked with stock rom, so..............
flash any stock rom with the sd card method since you are soff, reboot in download mode, place dev ruu on sdcard root and flash it, you will loose everything.
do not flash any recovery/superuser stufff, it will break phone again.
relock bootloader, reset phone.
download ota and apply.
--> latest update on dev edition has already the latest firmware 2.11 go for this with no ota at all.

OTA works just fine with an unlocked bootloader
Just reviewed that shot of your errors, nkk71 is correct, otas are incremental and you're flashing them out of sequence.
Since you're s-off, the safest thing here is simply to upgrade manually as stated. These workarounds to get otas to flash are for the guys who are s-on. You don't need to do any of this stuff.
