[Q] Wifi on HTC Desire (2.1)

Hey guys,
I just got myself the HTC Desire yesterday with Android 2.1 installed. I'm from India and the 2.2 upgrade is not yet available.
My problem is using Wi-Fi with HTC. I am able to turn on the Wifi, it gets connected to the WiFi router as well (with full signal strength) - HOWEVER when I try to access the internet, it is unable to do so. At the same time, all my other devices like the laptops and even my old phone (Nokia E72) are able to access the Wifi and connect to the internet. The router is Linksys WRT54G ver.7
I have checked all configuration settings on my WiFi Router (including security settings). I have even tried to disable security completely from the access point, but nothing is working. I'm really completely perplexed as to what can be done. Really appreciate any help from you guys
Bump! Any help guys?

The Desire, and other HTC Android phones, seems to be quite picky when it comes to WiFi routers. I think it is an issue that can often by fixed by replacing the firmware on your router.
See this thread for further details.

Dave
Thanks a lot for your response Dave. I'll look up that link

[Q] Unstable Wi-Fi with HTC Desire

I've got a HTC Desire with Starburst Lite 1.3.0, which is based on 2.29.405.5, and I've flashed RADIO 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27. I use the Wi-Fi which is secured by WPA/WPA2 PSK in my classrom. I've noticed that sometimes when I can't access to the Internet with my HTC Desire, my iPod touch has no problem browsing the Internet with the same network. I wonder, what's the problem?
I've noticed the problem since I first got this phone. When I was using an official RUU based on 2.13.707.2 with a older RADIO and hadn't yet rooted, the same problem also occured. Before that I used another Desire for like 2 weeks or so, and that phone also had the same problem. Both phones were manufactured in Taiwan.
That leads me to think if there is a problem with the hard ware or with the Android system. What should I do to solve this problem?
Many thanks!
I have noticed that I had issues with the 5.11.05.27 radio and ever since I've upgraded to 5.14.05.17 everything has been fine. It might be worth a try but I doubt it will fix it. I also found out that WPA/WPA2 doesn't work too well but WEP does. It is a funny one you know. It could even be the channel that the wireless device is using. I have also found this an issue. You could also try settings you wireless to never. Frankly, it could be a number of issues.

[Q] HTC One X Internation + CyanogenMod 10.1 Wifi Issues

Hello All, I am facing an issue whereby my WiFi reception is nearly hopeless after I updated to CM10.1. Anybody got a fix for this?
Hi,
i am facing the same issue. My Wifi is nearly down to no connection althoug I am only 2meters away from my router. I tried installing a new Baseband-version (Endeavoru_Radio_5.1204.162.29) but still no change.
I have CyanogenMod 10.1 with Android 4.2.2 on my HTC One X.
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks

Same Issue
I have exactly the same problem as the 2 of you. Have either of you manages to sort this out ?
I'm also having WiFi problems with my HTC One X (running CM10.2). I can connect to a network and after a minute or so the connection is dropped... Other forums suggest it's an HTC issue but since I'm running CM10.2 I suspect it's something else. Any pointers are appreciated.

Its not an HTC issue im sure of it. Too many people have this problem only with the Cyanogenmod. The stock rom has no issues. I tested. Im on the latest RC version and it also has that problem. Get more than 3 meters away from the router and BAM. no signal

Well I have swapped roms to test. The stock rom works perfect with regard to wifi. Not a huge deal for me, but would be nice to get this working.

htc m9 wifi problem

hello , i have problem with my new htc m9 it cant connect to wifi networks ???
wifi turned on but cant see or connect to any network
my android os 5.0.2
please help
Have you tried a Factory Reset?
Same Problem
Exactly the same problem I think the problem from sim.. Slide out and do restore factory settings... Wifi will appear relates and you can contact. But if you put sim you cant contact and dont see the network.we need update from htc because this problem in some contry
I from syria ????
I'm not having the exact same problem but I am having a problem with WiFi
Yesterday I received my wife's M9 upgrade and started setting it up. I noticed it was going REALLY slow downloading over Wi-Fi, so I activated the SIM and it dropped off the home network. It immediately picked up pace and apps began making download progress. I have more than a dozen other devices working without issue on my home network. When I reconnected it and attempted to reach any website, it just stalls.
Tonight I'll try pulling the SIM out and / or Factory Reset to see if I can get it working.
same problem
i have the same problem what should we do?
I returned my device and got another new one. Immediately out of the box it seemed to be working better but developed similar issues. I disabled a setting named minimize battery use on Wi-Fi and that seems to have improved it, but it still seems to have issue with my 5mhz 802.11AC router.
I think we can live with it the way it is, until they push a fix. Hopefully a fix anyway.

Seems to be an issue with N only 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band networks. I set my 2.4Ghz to auto (g/n) and removed the 5Ghz SSID from the list of known networks and it's working great. YMMV

DNS issue?
My problem is similar to what Jason V described. My phone connects to my home WiFi okay, but the internet connection alternates between working very slowly, or not at all. Strangely, removing the SIM card from the phone fixes the WiFi connection, but as soon as I reintroduce the SIM card, the WiFi issues return.
I'm going to attempt changing the DNS server to see if that helps at all. If it does I'll let you know.

problem completly solved with new update (1.32.401.17) from dear htc
Still...
Mine version is 1.32.841.15 but the problem is still there... I can't use Wi-Fi....
I could before but now after a few updates I can't... ( Just to be sure that we have same problem, I can turn Wi-Fi on but it doesn't show any networks.)
Solved
Simply update to latest build which as by now is : 1.32.501.17 and fortunately solve 2 M9 devices wifi for me.
you can find these Ota updates in here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/ota-1-32-401-15-firmware-noredtext-t3072571
,
I had this problem as well. I end up changing my channel to 11_and it helped, but when I changed it to 6,I went from 17mb to 32mb.

Are you sure that 1.32.501.17 is newer than 1.32.841.15?
And how can I downgrade to 1.32.501.17 from 1.32.841.15?

I've got the same problem, we have 2 M9s and both of them cannot find any wireless networks
build number 1.32.401.8
should we wait for hTC or what else can we do that won't require root ?

I was chatting to HTC for about one hour! But our biggest problem was that they don't know there is such a problem! They thought it's a problem just for me.
I informed them about it (at least, informed the chat person!) so I think we can expect an update from HTC in few weeks...
And that's weird that we can use Wi-Fi Hotspot but not connecting even finding networks!
I think the best is to wait a little...
But I'm still really confused that how did some other people updated their phone to 1.32.501.17 not 1.32.841.15 ?!

Network connection error.

Hi all,
I need your help with my issue.
I have a problem with my internet connection on some games. (WiFi or 4G) If i tap on retry, it is working as it should. Except Clash of clans. It keeps disconnecting. i can play a minute or 2 before the messeage appears. On 4g Clash of clans is working perfectly. (Strange)
I tryed 2,4 and 5ghz band of the router. (Asus RT-N66U)
With my HTC m8 on the old firmware everything worked perfectly. (Android 4.4.2)
Since Android 5.0.1 and firmware 4.16.401.10 i get these errors. I tried several ROM'S. (SkyDragon, Leedroid, Insert Coin.) So it's not the software i suppose.
My HTC One m8 is S-Off and have Super CID.
For what it's worth, i'am living in the Netherlands.
Could it be a problem in the firmware or am i supposed to use another firmware? It looks like the WiFi is unstable. A speedtest is not constantly. Could it be a problem with my router? (Laptop is working fine)
Router WiFi settings: https://www.imageupload.co.uk/image/ZZrn
I hope you guys and gals have a solution for my problem.
Thnx in advance!

It's a common problem with Lollipop. With other devices and stock ROMs as well. The next update should fix this.

This is a solution I've never heard of till now. It's been reported to work for others, obviously, or you wouldn't have posted this. Specifically, on what networks/carriers?
