Netflix stuck in corner - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was there a recent update to netflix on the FireTV? All of a sudden, whenever the next video is autoplayed in a tv series, the video stays shrunken in the top left corner of the screen. The only way to get it to go back is to exit netflix and reopen. If it tries to autoplay another though, it does it again. Like I said, recent problem. Last day or so.

Note this is happening on both a FireTV and a FireTV Stick. That's why I thought it might have been an app problem.

Wow! Well I'm glad I'm not alone. It happened to me for the first time earlier tonite.
Last nite I put playstore on this aftv and the install involved uninstalling/reinstalling a few times due to white space issues on Google apps and the playstore version needed to be updated. A couple of times I lost internet connectivity-had to unplug & replug the ethernet. But I got playstore working.
Probably more info than you needed but I'm glad it looks like a bug and not something I brought on...No. it's possible, but I'm unaware of a Netflix update though one is needed on aftv. It's not just me complaining about the "unable to play video" errors.
This box is hands down the best hardware I own out of all my streamers, but fire os seems to make it the least stable and that includes the original Sony Google TV.
Btw--since rebooting I haven't seen the tiny screen.

+1 on this problem. Clearing cache and/or rebooting fixes temporarily. Can't find any settings on Netflix.com or in the FireTV Netflix app that change the behavior. Anyone else have an idea?

Tiny screen doesnt happen unless it autoplays. Stopping and starting manually seems to avoid the problem.

Agreed, the workaround is to disable autoplay on the Netflix website.

I agree this works for adult profiles, but there doesn't seem to be an option to disable it on a Kids profile because you don't have the same settings menu when logged into that profile. Maybe I'm missing it.

Same issue on mine with whatever version of the netflix app that comes with the prerooted 51.1.4.1_514013920 rom. Is this happening on the newer software version as well?
And of course it's occurring in the kids profile which causes a lot of "Daddy can you come fix the TV?" requests.
I didn't even know you could turn off autoplay in the settings on the website until just now.
Another question would be if any one has seen the same issue in the android version of Netflix as opposed to the Fire TV version.

So I talked with Netflix support today and they said there was no way they could turn off autoplay on a kids profile, but they would submit it as a feature request.

Did you happen to talk to them about the small screen bug? I personally like the autoplay feature better. Wouldn't be bad to have the option though.

I did. They were unaware of the issue. I told them that turning off Autoplay fixes it but that there was no way to change that for a kids profile. So if they didn't know about it before, they do now.
I'm still wondering if anyone is having this problem on the newer rom version or if it's just the latest prerooted rom.

I can answer that. Neither of my machines are rooted and both are on the latest software.

Disabling autoplay In kids profile
I was able to disable autoplay in a Kids profile from the website.
Step 1: Login to Netflix master account
Step 2: Select "Manage Profiles" from drop down menu on top right
Step 3: Edit the Kids account, then uncheck "Kids 12 & Under" and select "Done"
Step 4: Switch to the Kids profile by selecting it from the drop down on the right
Step 5: Select "Your Account" from the drop down on the right
Step 6: Select "Playback Settings" under the "My Profile" Section
Step 7: Uncheck "Play next episode automatically" and then "Save"
Step 8: Select Manage profiles again from the drop down on the right
Step 9: Edit the kids profile and check "Kids 12 & Under" again and then select "Done"
Step 10: Switch back to Master profile, log out and test.
It's a lot of steps, but it works. Did this on mine and the kids profile kept the no autoplay setting.
No more video in a little box in the corner so far

Anyone find a fix for this problem? When I turn on autoplay I still run into this problem....

Amazon Instant Video App?

I'm wondering if this will have an app for Amazon Instant Video since it is one of the advertised features. If it does, would it be possible to port it to other Android devices? Right now the only way to watch Amazon Instant Video on an Android device is to spoof a desktop user agent and use flash player. While this method works, it would be a lot easier to have a native app, especially with flash player being discontinued.
APK (ATVAndroidCleint.apk) is Posted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19409230&postcount=10
Works on unrooted Gingerbread devices and force closes on Honeycomb/ICS when you try to go to a video's page. On rooted devices you'll need to install OTA Rootkeeper then force close and re-open the video app. You can also freeze/defrost it with Titanium Backup.
Option #1 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
Open the Amazon video app and find a video you want to watch. Tap the orange box to buy the video and log in with your Amazon account. Once logged in the prices in the orange boxes should adjust if you have Prime and you'll be able to watch videos. If you get an "Error Linking Device" proceed to option #2.
Option #2 to Log in to Your Amazon Account:
From a Kindle Fire ROM dump obtain and install MyAccount-unsigned.apk and com.amazon.dcp.apk. The files in this post should work even though its not a complete ROM dump. Now you can associate your Amazon account with your device just like you would a Google, etc account. From Settings, Accounts you should be able to add an Amazon account. Now go back into the Amazon video app and you should already be logged in and able to watch videos.
If you still get a "Your device is no longer configured correctly to play Amazon videos" error try restarting your device after you temp unroot with OTA Rootkeeper. Some devices, usually running CM roms have had issues with the error even after temp unrooting.
My understanding is that it will play instant video, although idk what app will do it.
Soon after mine arrives, I'll update?

Its built into the device.. so I doubt it.

When flash is discontinued, you won't lose your ability to view video. more than likely, they will replace it with HTML5. As long as thy don't go to Silverlight, you should be OK.
Ditto, though about the native app. Why hasn't amazon released this type of app?
Yeah, popped over to see if there was an apk for it to try on other devices. Would definitely want to give it a shot.
There is a native Amazon Video app on the Fire. The apk installed and ran fine on my Nexus S (although the layout was a bit wonky). The problem that I encountered is that there is no way to sign in to your account from the app.

Where is the apk?
Can you post the apk. Myself and others would be interested even if it doesn't work yet. Perhaps there is another app or service needed to get you logged into Amazon similar to porting android market to devices that don't have it. I also read that Amazon is releasing their source if that makes things easier. You'd think they would release Instant Video as an app but it is a selling point of the fire.
The apk is in system/app, and is called "ATVAndroidClient.apk"
here is the ATVAndroidClient.apk......havent tried it yet.
FC's when trying to watch movies, or view help. Must be due to sign in as mentioned previously. May need the accounts and sync apk installed.....
Looks nice though.
fwiw, post-rooting, myself and a couple others are no longer able to instant stream a video...

Sweet, and it works on the Droid 3.
What I did was tapped on an orange $1.99 button to buy an episode of a show. This brought up the Amazon login window and I logged into my Amazon account. Now that I'm logged in, it knows I have Prime Instant Videos for free so it lets me view everything.
There are some messed up parts of the GUI due to it only supporting the Kindle's resolution. I also noticed that once the on screen controls disappear during a video there is no way to get them back. I have to press the back button on my phone to exit back to the app, but luckily the app keeps your place, allowing you to resume.
Overall it is good enough to be usable, I watched a few minutes of Top Gear and Lost on it just fine. Both the Droid 3, Bionic, Razr, etc and the Kindle Fire have TI OMAP 4430, not sure if this has to do with anything.
EDIT:
Doesn't appear to work over 3G. You can browse videos but get the error "Playback over cellular network is currently disabled"

Yeah, I tried it on my Inc 2 and had more success....my first attempt was on honeycomb.
Wasn't able to log in. network error. Will try on wifi....
Definitely looked better on my tablet, so probably ideal for gingerbread tab.

It won't work over 3G for me, it wants wifi. It will be better on a tablet I'm sure, some of the things like the search box, etc feel a little small on a 4" screen, but its still a lot easier than using a browser.
If you got it working on your Incredible 2 then it may not actually be GPU sensitive. Maybe this will end up working on a wide variety of devices. Makes you wonder if Amazon will release a version to the general public.

Hopefully someone that knows what they are doing can get it to work properly.
Glad you got it working.

It let's you rent them and they show up in Videos. But you can't watch them if you're rooted. You have to watch them through a browser.

Apparently this app checks for root and gives this error even on the Kindle if rooted. The solution is to temporarily unroot with an app, details at this link:
http://phandroid.com/2011/11/16/rooting-kindle-fire-breaks-amazon-video-and-how-to-make-it-work/
I installed on my Bionic (currently removed the root while waiting for that update to show up) and it looked ok, a few graphic issues.
I tried to login, but it came back with a message to check my WiFi connection.

Non pushed game not updating,... any one know if it might be my fault???

Hi Chaps....
I recently had an upgrade from my isp,... and stupidly forgot to turn off my firetv,.... (I had it running perfectly,... no banners, and no intro to prime movies....)
IMy original update was the only one I ever had to do to allow xbmc (at the time) to be installed,... I them blocked updates through OpenDNS.
Off course I'm now on 51.1.6.3.
Now my problem may seem a little trivial, but I'm wondering if it might be something I may have done.
One of the few games that I installed through the firetv was "Hill Climb Racing",.. and I have just noticed that there is an update for it,.... (I do remember one previously, and that updated fine, on the older firmware).
But now when I go to update it all that happens is the game shows the screen where it states "Update App now" I click on it, and it just says "Update queued".
If I leave it until the screensaver kicks in and go back to it, the game has just gone back to saying that there is an update available again....
would it be anything to do with my open dnssettings...
these are what i have blocked..
Always Block:
a1910.d.akamai.net
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
atv-ext.amazon.com
softwareupdates.amazon.com
updates.amazon.com
Would be helpful if any one could point me as to which one may be blocking game updates,.... or could it be something different.
Help or ideas would be very much appreciated, thanks chaps..
slackbladder
-----------------------
It seems I have the same problem with bbc iplayer update and also a weather app update, .... in fact these dont even go to "update queued" screen, then just shrink back down as if I didn't click update.
decided to try installing ookla speed test, (i know its not compatible) but I just wanted to see if i could sync it,.... yep you guess it, I cannot sync anything either......
So it seems that it is impossible to sync apps that are deemed by amazon not to be compatible with the firetv,..... strange because they still allowed the free purchase to go through but it just wont sync,.... followed their instructions by the book, sync, go to apps folder, find app in cloud and install.
The only thing that has occurred recently is that F^&*ing update that got through...... I cannot believe I let that happen.... now I have to suffer a box that was working perfectly fine, just to have amaz0n F**k it up.

Kodi issues after rooting my FIRE TV 2

I'm having issues with Kodi after rooting my Fire TV 2. It seems to be doing a first run every time I open it, if it actually opens. I've removed it 6 or 7 times and tried to reinstall it, but it constantly does it. Other apps seem to work okay. I've installed using ADBFIRE and I've been using the same Kodi .apk as I've used since I bought my FTV2. I've tried a new .apk to see if that helps. I'm stuck here. Any advice would be appreciated.
*UPDATE*
Installed via SD and it's working fine. Obviously an issue with ADBFIRE.
Apologies for a pointless post, feel free to remove.

adbFire does nothing more that adb install -r filename.apk, so I seriously doubt that this is an adbFire issue. At any rate, I can't duplicate this and have had no other reports of this issue after many thousands of downloads.

I'm not suggesting it was an issue with adbFire, there could've been many other factors, in face I thought it could be an issue with my router or my MacBook. It could have also been a coincidence.
Any way, it's sorted now so I'm not worried. I'll continue to use adbFire, for everything else.

I misunderstood what was happening to you. And I don't know the setting off the top of my head. Go through and double check them anyways.
I was thinking it was starting Kodi like at startup rather than bringing it up from the background. Because that would cause a delay as it takes Kodi a minute or so to have everything in order.
Are you sure the addons disappear? Do you know how to manually set shortcuts in skin settings?
It sounds like your skin is resetting, after you installed a preconfigured build.

I've only ever used a preconfigured build once. There's only a few add ons I use. It literally deletes everything. I even have to re-enter the url for the repo to download the .zip. It's as if I run clean start.

[AFTV1] I can't access my apps library.

Hey all.
So I have a previously rooted FTV that is now unrooted and on 5.0.5.
Everything was great until just a couple of hours ago when I sideloaded Kodi via Apps2Fire. Everything seemed OK at first, but I quickly found after about 5 minutes that when on the main screen, I am unable to access the "Apps" section. When I scroll down to it, I am redirected up a couple of entries to "Movies." If I scroll up to the "Apps" section from beneath it, I am redirected down a couple of entries to "Photos." I tried a factory reset, but that did nothing for me.
What can I do?
I'd greatly appreciate any help that can be provided.
I'm seeing exactly the same behavior on a Fire Gen 1 and a Fire Stick. I had Kodi installed on both. I also tried a factory reset on one with no change.
So I can't help, but you're not alone .
Exactly same problem never rooted mine tho did. factory reset still same problem

I just noticed it today, but I don't normally use the apps category (usually just pick something from the recents list).
A couple days ago (probably Saturday) I noticed that my LLama + Classic TV solution wasn't working anymore to launch Kodi so I assume the software was updated around then. After searching for a bit on that issue, I read that side loaded apps were supposed to show up on the app list now so I thought I'd check it out (and found it broken).
BTW, I've never rooted either device, just enabled ADB and side-loaded Kodi and LLama.
I'm having the same problem. It only started early. This afternoon. I tried everything that others have tried but nothing doing.

Well then, I'm hopeful that this is a temporary issue on Amazon's side and that they'll resolve it. I guess we'll see.
Seems to have resolved itself on both my devices. Must have been a server side issue.
And after side-loading it again, Kodi does show up in the "My apps library" list.
Yep it's suddenly working on mine too. Hopefully it's all worked out.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
I had to deregister and sign back in and it worked
My apps library suddenly won't let me access it either.
My Fire TV suddenly started redirecting me to the movies or music sections every time I tried to click on the apps section. I haven't found a solution to get the apps tile function back, but it is simple to get around this sudden annoyance. I simply went to settings, then applications, scrolled down to manage applications, then scrolled down to the exact app I wished to open and hit the first choice, which was launch application. It was a round about way to open my favorite apps, but they still open and work fine with this method. I hope this helps.

The new Amazon Video app and its quirks

Hello guys and girls,
I've been using the unofficial Amazon Video app (the one pulled from a Sony TV that's been floating around) for a while now and it worked pretty much OK (except for the functions triggered by the 4 coloured buttons).
But, because the update to Nougat, I decided to ditch the old app and use the one included with the update. Until my wife pointed out some obvious problems:
1. When the Shield goes to sleep (like when pausing the movie to go pop some more corn) the new Amazon Video app is closed. Restarting the movie implies restarting the app and navigate to the movie again. This was not the case with the unofficial app.
2. When restarting the movie, it is rewinded some 30 - 60 seconds, which is a little too much, especially when you've just seen that part 5 minutes earlier. This was not the case with the unofficial app.
3. The parental control seems to be active this time around. For example some episodes of Two and a half men need the pin code every time they are started and restarted. Problem is that we wouldn't need this feature at all, but cannot be disabled. Again, not the case with the unofficial app.
Have you noticed these quirks? Are they annoying to you too?
Sadly the old thread seems to have been deleted so I cannot recover the unofficial Amazon Prime Video app...
Wish you a great day!
I can't even get my Amazon Video app to load. I just get error message 1066 (this one) and all I can do is go back to the home screen
Amazon CS just denied that the Shield TV supports Amazon Video and Manuel Guzman from Nvidia can't pick up my error feedback, so no help really.

Just outta interest... And as I ran... (Well more like scatterbrained), also running into this Problem with Amazon. I would ask if your not running some kind of Proxy Service \ VPN App?
I happen to be currently using Keep Solids VPN, as it was One of the first such Apps to have appeared in the TV PlayStore. It worked better under Lollipop. But, I suspect the quriks with Nougat will improve a bit further down the road.
The uphsot of all this is, is if I forget to turn this Service back off again latter on, when I want to browe a bit on the Amazon App. It runs into nearly the same conditions such as you've described. Save being very, very lagy, and slow. When it actually does try to do something other than landing on a Black Screen.
I am using no proxy or VPN. There's no need for one or the other with the German Amazon Prime Video.

I do have VPN Unlimited installed but as I'm in the UK I have it disabled for Amazon Video as it's not needed.
Humm odd I'm from Germany (w/German Amazon), but am using VPN Unlimited, to purloin such Services, such as the BBC iPlayer, and as many US Catch-up Services that do NOT require a Cable Sub Login, to access it. Everything is working more or less.
Like I said sometimes I forget that I have it enabled to watch say iPlayer, than shut it down to play some Game or other. Than decide I go watch Some Top Gear um.. The Grand Tour, only to wonder what the heck was wrong with Amazon, and why it wouldn't load up, or if it did manage to load up. Why it would just sit and spin, till it timed out, with some Error. Which was near enough to the Ops Error Code. But I can't say if it was that very exact Code, or not.
It's about this time when I remember that I did in fact still have my VPN turned on. Once I go to the VPN Unlimited App, and then proceed to turn it back off again. It's at that moment when Amazon starts working for me again.

It wasn't my VPN as I was disconnecting that but you got me thinking... I had a DNS service that I set up ages ago (and in fact don't even use) but it was still set in my static IP configuration in network settings!! I reset my network back to dhcp and it works now so THANK YOU so much. Amazon CS were useless and the the error message didn't tell me much at all.
