[Q] Keyboard recent apps button. - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been hunting around for a possible fix for this and I figured it was time to ask on the Q&A forum.
My problem is that with the official samsung keyboard for the tab S 10.5 the recent apps button (on the keyboard, not the tablet itself) doesn't work on certain roms, although it does however work on the stock rom.
Is there a file that I need to edit to bind that key to the recent apps function? Or am I out of luck?
Thanks for taking the time to read about my problem. :good:

[Q] Need USB OTG and Tethering - what is best ROM to flash?

Hi,
I'm on Samsung SGH-i927 (Captivate Glide) from AT&T currently running stock (but rooted) Gingerbread (was rooted by the ebay seller I guess).
I basically just need two more features to work:
USB OTG so I can connect USB hard drives (via a hub) and keyboards
USB and wifi and preferably Bluetooth tethering so I can use phone's internet on my laptop
What is the best course of action? Should I upgrade to ICS or JB or CM10, or are there some fixes to Gingerbread available? I wouldn't like to lose any currently available features (e.g. physical keyboard working 100% - I'm a heavy VX ConnectBot user).
I tried to look around but the CyanogenMod things seem to be very beta still, and I'm not quite sure if the AT&T 4.0.4 upgrade will fix my issues or not. I wouldn't want to upgrade unless necessary, and when I do upgrade I'd rather use the best available version out there.
Many thanks
Your best bet is one of ninthsense's ROMs with the SYM key hack. I don't think you'll need a dedicated voice search or ".com" button for ConnectBot

Thanks, I'll check it out.
Thing with voice search and the .com button is they act as Tab and Esc, and I use Tab quite a lot for autocomplete... And Esc to change windows in irssi. I guess I could live with them remapped, but not sure how to do it in VX ConnectBot.
Could you post a link to these ninthsense's ROMs? I can't quite find them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621350
And google wasn't very helpful either.
Thanks.
His two ROMs are:

I know he put the SYM key hack in one of them, I don't recall which. It may be in both.
Alternately, the hack can be applied to any of the AOSP based ROMs (CM10 etc) with a little putzing around in ADB, and then it sticks until you next flash a ROM.
Many thanks, they look pretty cool!
Do you know if the voice-search and .com keys are completely dead in these ROMs? I'd be happy for them to not function i.e. in the browser, but maybe they work in VX ConnectBot?

Both my ROM's have the sym key hack after you apply the fixes given in the respective threads. The voice key is a simple search key now inside apps and brings up google voice otherwise and the .com has been mapped to <> and some more symbols.

[Q] Samsung Keyboard / Updates

This is two questions separate actually.
• Has anyone figured out a way to force the speech-to-text button on the Samsung Keyboard to be the default as appose to the Handwriting button?
I really like the Samsung Keyboard layout / features, so I'd like to stick with that keyboard if all possible. The button is the only thing I don't like. Next question...
• When I odin back to stock, I can get the 4.1.2 update no problem, but the next update usually takes a day before I'm able to download it. Is there an up-to-date stock firmware release yet? Or at least to 4.1.2 Multi-Window. Or possibly another way around this, where I don't have to wait for 24 hour update check?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

S3-T999 Samsung Keyboard issue - Can you help?

I love the stock Samsung keyboard. On 4.1.2 version, the comma was a separate button to the left of "spacebar" button. This was perfect. Now, I upgraded to 4.3 version and the ROM (S3Rx) has Note 2 keyboard (with numbers on top). Anyway, the comma is buried under the Sym. The less used "." is a free standing button.
Is there anyway to mod this apk so that instead of period it will be the comma? Look at the pic attached to see what I mean.
I've tried pulling the old SamsungIME.apk from the nandroid backup as well as trying other similar downloads from xda. None seem to work.
Please let me know if you know how to do this.
Thanks!

[Q] Android 4.3 Bluetooth Keyboard Issue on s3

Hi,
I can see such threads around XDA but not specifically for SIII (tried googling and searching the forum).
Did anyone else get this issue/ does anyone know a fix?
I use I9300 and tested 4.3 stock rom (unbranded) installed by the samsung tech support (XXUGNA5) with 3 bluetooth keyboards and all failed:
- K810 refurb
- Zagg keys flex
- Tracer BT slim
The symptom is that the keyboard connects/ pairs but the device does not sense any buttons.
The interesting thing here though is that after factory reset, the keyboards do work, but they stop after installing play store apps. I think it's in spefic due to 3-rd party soft-keyboards. Didn't manage to trace what they change that causes this failure, but I got the bug each time after running swype or touchpal. Switching back to stock keyboard does not fix it, if any of them was installed before.
You can find some info on the posts below. Neither solution worked for me though so I ended up flashing 4.1.1.2 Ultima rom (I tried stock-based 4.3 rom and got the same issue). For the nexus someone found that it's enough to remove keyboard layout files but it did not work for me.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58202 - original google issue thread (for one specific keyboard)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44272643&postcount=27 - the nexus 7 fix that does not work for sgs3 - I tried removing each single layout file (1by1) and it din't help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2402288 - another one for nexus 7 (same conclusion)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383135 - nexus 10 thread
I missed 1 more thread which had a list of keyboards that ought to and not to work (and I guess some Android Police article on this issue) but in my case even K810 didn't so I guess it may be a different story for I9300.

Add Tab and Arrow keys to Samsung Keyboard

Hi! I am hoping that someone by now has found a way to add a tab and/or Arrow keys to the stock samsung keyboard. It is still my favorite except for those 2 things missing and don't want to use a different keyboard. I am using Android 4.3 SGH I317.
Is there a forum just for v.4.3 for those who have refused to upgrade? Also, which is the best rootkit right now to use without a laptop, to root it with my phone only.
Thanks!
