So I am not able to connect my phone to the PC.
The phone charges and the drivers work fine, but it is not recognized. I tried using my friends phone which is exactly the same and it worked fine.
After doing some research I found that the USB settings are not available from the drop menu, and for some reason they are not available in the settings under storage.
I also found that some people change settings with this code *#7284# , but I wasn't able to use it as secret codes do not work on verizon phones.
Any one that could help me please?
May not help but ...
Does ##366633# work? (Then pick 'Disable DM Mode' )

I have had this phone for only two days now. My previous phone was an EVO. I got my Epic 4G Touch via a trade and there is one thing that I cant figure out... and feel quite silly asking the question.
When I plug the phone into my PC via USB, I do not get an option or prompt to choose whether to connect as a hard drive / charge only / or tether my internet connection like I did on my EVO. It seems that it only allows me to connect in charge only mode. I have been unable to find an option to choose to connect as a hard drive in the settings menu.
Any help with this solution will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Robert
Ok, enabling the USB debugging and then unplugging and plugging in the USB fired up those settings, but it did not find drivers for:
CDC Serial or SAMSUNG_Android... I am going to search the forum for that answer.
Settings>Wireless and Networks>USB Utilities. That's how you get to USB mode. But yes debugging mode also works. But once you plug your phone in the mtp mode should connect. You can also access media on PC that way and ur sd card is still accessible thru phone, unless you're actively syncing something then you get the sync screen.

Thanks for the reply folks. I had me EVO so long that I forgot about enabling debugging mode. I did that and I finally got the drop down menu to enable me to use the phone as a hard drive.
My issue now is that I cannot seem to get two drivers to install correctly. I read through many posts, both here and ones I found via google, that suggested that I install Kais from Samsung's website to fix the driver issue. I did that, and applied all of the updates to the program that were available, and I am still getting the error saying that those drivers did not install correctly. I can browse the SD card now that Kais Air is installed, but I am still having the driver issue in device manager.
I am not sure where these drivers can be obtained...

Other than Kies, your pc should install drivers upon connecting phone. I've had this happen before. I uninstalled the drivers I found via google, restarted my pc, reconnected my device and it immediately began downloading proper drivers. I was good to go from then on.
You may wanna try, once device is connected to pc to
-go to start menu
-computer, and see if your device is there
Hi All,
I can't seem to get QPST to work with my Epic 4g (trying to change the PRL). I've followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898628
The issue is (as far as I can tell), the computer isn't using the correct drivers. I can't get the phone to show up as a com port regardless of what UART/USB settings I try, charging/USB tethering, or USB debugging enabled/disabled.
I've attached two pics from device manager, the first is using USB tethering, the other putting it in Charging mode. I've even tried reinstalling the Samsung USB drivers and manually updating them with the phone connected -- but no luck (it says the best drivers are already installed).
Any suggestions?
Found the fix: need to plug in the phone with PDA/USB selected and switch to MODEM/USB after. Otherwise my computer doesn't even detect a USB connection.
Hi all, how are you?
I have a Galaxy Nexus unrooted stock with Android 4.3 (JWR66V).
After the update to 4.3, my device has stopped working in MTP/PTP mode.
I mean, When I connect my phone to my Notebook USB port, thus nothing happens on my notebook or my phone.
When my phone is connected to my notebook the notification dialog to select between MTP/PTP modes doesn`t show up anymore in the phone (it only says that is charging).
I have tried to re-install the drivers on my notebook, and It didn't fix this issue.
I have also tried to the a factory reset on my phone, and It did't fix the issue either.
Besides, I tried also to connect the phone with a different USB cable and it didn't fix the issue either.
Please, May someone help me?
Thanks in advance

I have no idea of what is going on and why USB stopped working after 4.3 update?
How do I troubleshoot this issue?any clues?
I figure out that on Android 4.3 I have ti go to Settings->Storage->Usb Computer Connection and manually select the connection mode...
(I am not sure Why the notification pop up doesn't show anymore on the phone when I connect it to the PC using the USB cable)

You are totally right... dont know the stu... option doesnt appears clear. On my S3 I did the same, but the option wasnt visible... you must click over USB (even it appearing as dimmed) then a USB CONNECTION (or something like) appears you must click over and then a screen with MPT option will be available... For godsake WHY such thing isnt available on settings or on shortcut menu by default is beyond my understanding.
Hello everyone,
when I tried to connect my Galaxy S4 Mini (LTE i9195, Stock KitKat, rooted) via USB to my computer today, nothing happend. I checked the drivers, they are all installed. But I can connect another S4 Mini (LTE) without any problems.
I noticed that my S4 Mini does not show the notification you usually get when you connect the phone via USB (the one where you can choose Camera or MTP) anymore. The other one, which works perfect, shows this notification in the notification bar. I am using the original Samsung cable, which was shipped with the phone.
Note: My phone still charges when I connect it to the PC but does not recognise the PC connection
My phone is rooted and I used an Autostart/Reciever Toggle program yesterday - is it possible that I accidentally deactivated a necessary service?
What I tried so far:
- Google (only found solutions for "PC doesnt recognise phone" and not vice versa)
- Reboot
- DalvikCache Reset
- Cache Reset
- turn on/off USB Debugging
- use different cable
- use different usb ports
- use the code *#8080# to change MTP (it was already set to MTP...)
#Edit: It is just as in this thread (but S4 Mini instead of S4):

Thanks for your answer, but I can't find what you mean I have seen a post where it says that I need to go to Settings -> Storage and hit the three dots there, but on my Samsung there are no 3 dots AND nothing happens when I press the menu button either... See: random-host.com/blogs/enable-media-device-mtp-usb-mode-android-44-kitkat-and-50-lollipop
Thanks!
(Okay I got it working now.)
After I tried everything I could imagine, I decided to Flash the Stock Rom again. But before I was going to flash the new ROM I did a nandroid backup with CWM of my current ROM + everything. After Full Wiping I decided to restore the backup I just did (the ROM is still downloading hehe...) and voila it works again! Why? I have no clue...
So just backup -> full wipe -> restore backup -> worked!
#Edit: Stopped working agin... But the computer successfully connected to the phone, installed the drivers and displayed the phone in the explorer. Note: this time (when it actually worked after the restore) it showed the MTP connection in the statusbar! But now it disappeard again and is not showing up anymore...

Thanks for your reply!
As stated in my thread I already enabled/disabled and reenabled USB Debugging, and USB Debugging requires Developer Options.
But thanks for trying to help!!
Is it possible that my USB port is broken? A new one only costs 5€ so I think I'll give it a try...
Hi ! Ive the same problem... Ive you try to change your Kernel ?
I'm currently running on CM 12 and it works. However, if the pc does not recognise the phone, try rebooting your computer and your phone (that often actually works).
Mh... Try to reboot in recovery and make a wipe data / factory reset.
Any new ideas how to resolve this issue?
Did all of the above plus factory reset, tried different drivers and changed phone's charging port.
Two other phones (a Samsung and a Sony) connect to this PC just fine.
Thanks in advance
LE: In download mode the PC sees it in Odin. I tried SilviuMik's different kernel variants (the phone is stock KitKat), but nothing happens. I had no problems with it connecting to PC until about 2-3 weeks ago.
Hello all, I'm at my wit's end. With my new Nexus 5x in the mail and arriving next week, I've been trying to get Helium to work on my SGH-I257M. I'm trying to move saved game data as to not have to start all over again on the new phone.
I've followed the instructions on the Helium/Carbon site and can't seem to get the Desktop Application to recognize the phone. I feel like an idiot because after 3 hours of troubleshooting and googling for answers, I still can't get the connection to work.
Specifics:
- Unrooted, but sold as unlocked, SGH-I257M - been on the US T-Mobile network for almost 2 years.
- Android 4.4.2
- Tried on Windows 10 and Windows 7 machines as Administrator
- Tried two different USB cables
- Downloaded the drivers available on Helium site, also downloaded Kies/Smart Switch from the Canadian Samsung site for drivers.
- USB debugging is on
- When plugged in, there is no notification that the phone is in usb storage mode - but the computer does recognize that it's plugged in.
- Edit: Also tried on boyfriend's work Mac - no dice
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: SOLVED - HAD TO DIAL *#0808# and choose MTP+ADB
Figured it out! I overcome this issue by:
1. Go to dial pad & type *#0808#
2. It displays USB settings
3. Select MTP+ADB option
4. Press OK button
5. Connect to USB cable to PC
6. It shows Connected as a media device.
7. Switch to PTP
