Hello everyone,
when I tried to connect my Galaxy S4 Mini (LTE i9195, Stock KitKat, rooted) via USB to my computer today, nothing happend. I checked the drivers, they are all installed. But I can connect another S4 Mini (LTE) without any problems.
I noticed that my S4 Mini does not show the notification you usually get when you connect the phone via USB (the one where you can choose Camera or MTP) anymore. The other one, which works perfect, shows this notification in the notification bar. I am using the original Samsung cable, which was shipped with the phone.
Note: My phone still charges when I connect it to the PC but does not recognise the PC connection
My phone is rooted and I used an Autostart/Reciever Toggle program yesterday - is it possible that I accidentally deactivated a necessary service?
What I tried so far:
- Google (only found solutions for "PC doesnt recognise phone" and not vice versa)
- Reboot
- DalvikCache Reset
- Cache Reset
- turn on/off USB Debugging
- use different cable
- use different usb ports
- use the code *#8080# to change MTP (it was already set to MTP...)
#Edit: It is just as in this thread (but S4 Mini instead of S4):

Thanks for your answer, but I can't find what you mean I have seen a post where it says that I need to go to Settings -> Storage and hit the three dots there, but on my Samsung there are no 3 dots AND nothing happens when I press the menu button either... See: random-host.com/blogs/enable-media-device-mtp-usb-mode-android-44-kitkat-and-50-lollipop
Thanks!
(Okay I got it working now.)
After I tried everything I could imagine, I decided to Flash the Stock Rom again. But before I was going to flash the new ROM I did a nandroid backup with CWM of my current ROM + everything. After Full Wiping I decided to restore the backup I just did (the ROM is still downloading hehe...) and voila it works again! Why? I have no clue...
So just backup -> full wipe -> restore backup -> worked!
#Edit: Stopped working agin... But the computer successfully connected to the phone, installed the drivers and displayed the phone in the explorer. Note: this time (when it actually worked after the restore) it showed the MTP connection in the statusbar! But now it disappeard again and is not showing up anymore...
Have u enable developer option ?? Some phones needs to enable developer optiom to recognise the phone in pc.. to enable this go to setting /about phone n click in build number more than 7 times . And then go to developer optiongn then click in USB Debugging . Then ur pc will recognise the phone.. hope this help u !!
Thanks for your reply!
As stated in my thread I already enabled/disabled and reenabled USB Debugging, and USB Debugging requires Developer Options.
But thanks for trying to help!!
Is it possible that my USB port is broken? A new one only costs 5€ so I think I'll give it a try...
Hi ! Ive the same problem... Ive you try to change your Kernel ?
I'm currently running on CM 12 and it works. However, if the pc does not recognise the phone, try rebooting your computer and your phone (that often actually works).
Mh... Try to reboot in recovery and make a wipe data / factory reset.
Any new ideas how to resolve this issue?
Did all of the above plus factory reset, tried different drivers and changed phone's charging port.
Two other phones (a Samsung and a Sony) connect to this PC just fine.
Thanks in advance
LE: In download mode the PC sees it in Odin. I tried SilviuMik's different kernel variants (the phone is stock KitKat), but nothing happens. I had no problems with it connecting to PC until about 2-3 weeks ago.

Hi,
Apparently I can not post on the appropriate thread, so I'll have to create a new thread here.
I'm using the latest CM v7.0.3 rom and the "connect to pc" menu is missing. No "mount as harddisk", no "charge only". I can not access my SD card from the pc at all. Am I missing something? Reboot and/or connecting and disconnecting my device multiple times to different PCs didn't help either.
Thanks for any help,
- McManiaC
Umm, when you connect your phone via usb to the pc, the usb icon and usb connected msg should popup, slide down the status bar, tap the usb connected notification and then pick turn on usb storage , the phone is already charging when connected to usb so you don't get that charge only option
Well yes, that's what it should be like - but exactly that notification is missing. It's been there in previous versions of CM/HTC Sense, but I don't get that pop-up in the latest CM703...
usb / connect to pc menu missing
i have the same problem on my legend with CM710 stable...
i remember this option was there (and a menu popped up when you plugged it in) but now it is not there anymore and nothing happens when i plug it in (windows: usb dev not recognized, ubuntu doesnt even recognize any usb device)... although the phone continues to charge...
i suspect that i might have done a factory reset or something after which this problem started... (or i may have disassembled the phone to replace the touchscreen/lcd... but has been carefully reassembled and everything else works fine..)
even tried to recover to old backups, flashing the rom again but nothing happens, still no connect to pc menu in settings nor does pluggin it in works...
gonna try to flash a stock froyo rom and see what happens..
if i am missing anything then please let me know...
Hi all, how are you?
I have a Galaxy Nexus unrooted stock with Android 4.3 (JWR66V).
After the update to 4.3, my device has stopped working in MTP/PTP mode.
I mean, When I connect my phone to my Notebook USB port, thus nothing happens on my notebook or my phone.
When my phone is connected to my notebook the notification dialog to select between MTP/PTP modes doesn`t show up anymore in the phone (it only says that is charging).
I have tried to re-install the drivers on my notebook, and It didn't fix this issue.
I have also tried to the a factory reset on my phone, and It did't fix the issue either.
Besides, I tried also to connect the phone with a different USB cable and it didn't fix the issue either.
Please, May someone help me?
Thanks in advance

I have no idea of what is going on and why USB stopped working after 4.3 update?
How do I troubleshoot this issue?any clues?
I figure out that on Android 4.3 I have ti go to Settings->Storage->Usb Computer Connection and manually select the connection mode...
(I am not sure Why the notification pop up doesn't show anymore on the phone when I connect it to the PC using the USB cable)

You are totally right... dont know the stu... option doesnt appears clear. On my S3 I did the same, but the option wasnt visible... you must click over USB (even it appearing as dimmed) then a USB CONNECTION (or something like) appears you must click over and then a screen with MPT option will be available... For godsake WHY such thing isnt available on settings or on shortcut menu by default is beyond my understanding.
Hi, having no problem connect with my SGW to my PC via USB previously, until recently, no more USB mass storage/USB debug icon appear at notification bar. (but charging phone via USB still working and fine)
Using
-Windows 7
-Samsung galaxy W with Cyanogenmod 9 from acro68.
Try searching through google and try all method still cannot fix it.
1) clear dalvik cache - fail
2) re-enable 'Andoid debugging' in 'Developer options' - checked, but fail
3) Storage > USB computer connection > Mass storage - fail... change to other type, also fail
4) try using Easy Tether from Google Play - fail
5) Reboot PC, use other PC - fail
6) Reboot phone with and without USB connecting to PC - fail
7) Install samsung driver in PC - fail
Not remembering I had changed any setting in phone, but the USB icon just won't appear once the USB is connected.
Having greenify installed in phone, not thinking this or other app will cause this problem.
Really need some help please

For me Mokee OS runs without any issues
Sent from my beloved HTC One S using (most time buggy) Tapatalk
This solution is for those who will face the same problem
To fix same problem on my S4 mini I've tried:
Numerous PCs and USB cables
USB debugging (& Stay awake & Unknown sources) checked and unchecked
Unmounted & remounted SD card
Asking the PC to look for new hardware
Removed and re-installed PC drivers
Dial *#7284# or *#0808# and set MTP+ADB USB Setting
Nothing help me.
However, thanks to SparksGuy, I have the solution , as follows:
1. Remove phone from PC and remove battery to shut off phone.
2. Plug USB cable into PC.
3. Plug USB cable (other end) into phone.
4. The PC install new hardware appropriate drivers for a few minutes (phone without battery)
5. Unplug USB cable from phone
6. Put battery back in and turn on phone
7. As the phone boots, hold down Volume up and down. Phone boots into safe mode.
8. Plug USB cable into phone.
9. I saw notification about USB MTP-connecting on the phone. PC have found my phone!
10. After the reboot in normal mode problem was fixed
Okay so I want to manually update to 4.4 (I have the normal 4.2.2 for this model). So first I connect my phone to my laptop to create a backup just in case something goes wrong. And SURPRISE! USB Device Not Recognized. Tried changing the port, the wire, restarting the phone, the laptop, no change. The USB notification is also not showing on the phone, it just sees it as regular charging.
I never had this problem before... I even used USB debugging several times. I thought maybe somehow the settings changed and it's no longer set to MTP. So I go to my phone's settings and can't find the USB settings to check. Looked it up online, they are supposed to be under storage when I press the menu button. I press it and nothing happens, and the USB connection settings are nowhere to be found.
Any ideas?
Have you tried to install your phone's USB driver in your computer?

1. Turn on USB debugging
2. Upgrade to the newest version of Kies
3. Ensure it connects as MTP [media device] not PTP [camera]
I have an SM-P607T with an active T-Mobile plan - though I bought it from a third party then added it to my account. Previously everything worked fine, as I tried CM and a few ROMs on it, but ultimately went back to stock TMo ROM, 4.4.2, and just rooted it. Hadn't used it in awhile, grabbed it and thought I'd update to official Lollipop build.
First off, I disabled SuperSU and tried to apply the 4.4.4 update, assuming after that it'd offer me 5.1.1. Applying the 4.4.4 update failed. I factory reset the device in recovery mode (stock recovery), which of course fully removed SuperSU. Still fails updating. I downloaded the Lollipop ODIN tar, and that's where I started running into showstopper issues.
When I plug in a USB cable from a PC, the tablet starts charging, and that's it. There is no sign in windows that a device has been connected, no ding that something has been attached, no driver search. I tried this on 3 Win10 PCs. On all of them I installed Samsung Drivers, and even installed Samsung Easy Switch (new KIES). It would never register that it was plugged into a PC. I tried plugging my Note 4 in, registers and works fine (I read a thread on here by someone saying Win10 wouldn't recognize Samsung devices - not the case for me, phones work fine, just the tablet that won't show up). There is NO driver issue because the system never acknowledges anything is connected at all. I tried 3 PCs and 4 USB cables. I tried Samsung Easy Switch/KIES device recovery - tried putting tablet in download mode and tried putting it in recovery mode; neither ever shows up on PC. I tried using ADB, does not show up in devices (I have USB Debugging checked, Unknown Sources checked, etc etc).
I downloaded the Lollipop ODIN tar.md5 and put it on the microSD card. I loaded stock recovery, chose to flash from external storage, selected the .tar.md5, it said it was flashing it, said it flashed successfully even. Rebooted and it hadn't flashed at all.
Does ANYONE have ANY idea how to get my tablet updated? I can handle not being able to connect to PC, but I want to at least get OTA updates working. Factory reset, apply 4.4.4 OTA, fails after reboot every time.
Help?!
I have the similar problem as you. Someone said it could be easily resolved by enable CP logging in the recovery menu. I saw the solution after I got my device working so I did not try that.
My procedure is
1. Enter this using calculator (+30012012732+
2. enter *#0808#
3. switch to "DM+MODEM+ADB " option, OK, and reboot
4. until now, I could see the USB device in my Windows Device Manager, but MTP function won't work
5. repeat step 1 and 2
6. switch to "MTP+ADB" option, OK, and reboot
7. Done. Device could be identified. (Windows 10 x64 Pro)
Hope it could be useful for you.
Hi i have a similar problem as you, my Note is the SM-P600 that I rooted and has TWRP v2.8.7.0 and last time I went into recovery, the thing came up with a stock red upper left hand side text say "recovery in not seandroind enforcing" then ended up with the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again" but the damn thing will not connect. 2 usb 3 ports and 2 usb 2 ports multiplecables- anker, samsung you name it-musical ports, tried right clicking the 4 usb port hubs and unchecking power saving in power mgnt- nothing- yet my the usb drivers see my note 4 just fine, in device mngr, the note tablet shows up in usb at the bottom as samsung device, I am just perplexed as to how to un**** this thing. If you have any suggestions and can let me know I'd appreciate it.
