Hi, i am thinking about to buy a Galaxy S II SGH-T989, but the guy who sells it says that the soft keys buttons are not working, he says they was working, and he accidently put in the code *#2663#, and they stopped working, he is selling it cheap, so i wanna ask you is it possible to fix it? I have flashed many samsung phones, so flashing is no problem for me.
Thank you!
I'd say it's a gamble. You may never fix it.
These devices are very old, I can't see a perfectly good one being very expensive... And safer buying a fully functional one.
Just my 2 cents. ?
Well, I own 2 t989's and after updating them both, the microphone on one of em stopped working and still can't figure out how come nor how to fix it. As to ur softkeys not working, if its not something software then I'd buy the lil board to replace the one that's under the glass in the phone, I think for about $8. Worth a shot.
Now I'm soo broke I can't even pay attention!

Today is a very sad day for me somehow my new htc one x's capaticive buttons stopped working i restarted and even factory resetted and they are not working anymore
my previous htc hd2 was stopped digitizer working too. How unlucky i am.
I guess I neet to install CWM and using on screen button
which rom do you reccomend? ı used to install couple roms to hd2 but i havent tried with one x
thank you all
Factory reset will only reset it to the rom you have flashed. Have you tried flashing the correct ruu for your phone? When you say it's new, how new? New enough to return to where you got it for replacement?

I have installed icecoldjelly but then I had problem with mobile network :s
capacitive buttons stopped working
my htc one x touch sensitive buttons have stopped working like a week ago, i then installed the coldjellybean by which i got that onscreen buttons after 2 days the buttons started working n i thought of selling the set but as i was going to make a deal with a person that day the problem appeared again, i dont have the warranty left and the screen replacement is quite not an option. Is there any trick that i can work on to make them work again.

it could be just the digitizer and on ebay you can find it quite cheap.

i took the phone to my local market n came to know that the their isnt any separate capacitive buttons cable, it is embedded within the lcd, so if i have to order then whole complete lcd + digizer + module, and i checked the online purchase price is almost the same price the local market ppl are offering that is near 60 dollars.
Just that i am not sure why does the buttons stopped working and if somehow why they started working n now have again stopped ;(

not sure what you mean.. look at this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Touch-S...865?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d02ec98e9
anyway it happened to me with another phone that a portion of the digitizer stopped working for a few days, then it started working again and then it stopped for good and had to replace it.

hmmm, well actually i was reading all the other threads with this issue and came upton this
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696552
Which shows "DO NOT try to replace the screen by yourself" and i can see that on my set that its rather v hard to do this thing instead everyone says to buy the whole module as it is very complex thing to do.

it is hard to separate the digitizer from the lcd but it's doable and nothing like the iphone digi+lcd that uses an epoxy adhesive. so if you are carefull (or have someone skilled doing it for you) you wont break the lcd and you'll save quite some money. it's true though that the new digitizer wont stick to the lcd as well as a "genuine combo digi+lcd" and you will notice dust building in between the two. my advice, if you know someone that is skilled enough, try get the digitizer off without breaking the lcd and if you manage that then buy the new digitizer. otherwise since you said that changing the whole digi+lcd is not an option you can always try sell your one x as damaged or use it as an expensive paperweight.
best of luck mate, i hope you solve it one way or another.

haha that paperweight thing made my day... well thanks for the advice but i think i am going to wait until it gets ok by itself as it happened before until then icecoldjelly rom would be a temporary solution for the onscreen buttons. Thanks anyway
so i got a s2 with a bad lcd screen, it leaked. the phone is like a week old with no insurance and im sure warranty wont cover this.
anyhow, i can't seem to find the replacement for the tmobile version, only for the international.
can they be cross-used?
anyhow, does anyone knows where to get it? can't seem to find the right one on ebay or anywhere else for that matter.
any help would really be appreciated.

You might be out of luck on this one. The screen is fused to the digitizer and the screen is an AMOLED screen which is not common in aftermarket and as far as i know is proprietary to samsung .

i found that is the whole front housing and lcd/digitizer.
i got the phone for free, and i was thinking on replacing my really beat up sensation with it... for 150 bucks sounds ok, but, it's from china, i dont like that :/
edit: i couldn't find a thread on the forums, but, here is a place where to get the full front off the device, which should make the whole fixing easy:

So a cracked the glass and took the small chance i could fix my GSM Nexus.
WRONG
I broke the LCD and now im stuck with a non functioning mobile.
DO I.
Replace the Screen and LCD for around £150
Do i send it off to Samsung for a repair?
Do i bite the bullet and get a nexus 4 and sell mine as spares or repair?
Thanks
N
if you have warranty sent it to sammy... if you dont then
a. if you are tired of this phone, get the n4 and sell it(but i dont think you will get much if you sell it damaged)
b. if you dont mind using this phone, get it fixed and keep it
PS- this thread should be posted in the Q&A section :good:
More than anything i just feel gutted about damaging my phone....
Spending £150+ on getting it repaired seems silly considering a new phone is £240..
DO NOT replace cracked glass screen unless you have the LCD also.. You will not be able to do it!

New phone for sure. you havea great excuse to try out the latest and greatest hardware!
So I have always wanted a Galaxy Nexus and when I got it I was very happy.. I traded my Galaxy Tab 2 that I paid retail for when it first came out ($249.99). Its been a couple months or so. I dropped it two weeks ago on accident and cracked the screen. So I ordered a new one for $175 off of Amazon.
I fixed it and ended up breaking the volume wiring soldered connections. Be careful!
Last night I flashed CM 10.1 like I have a zillion times and it must have a kernel issue or something as I'm stuck at the Google boot screen now. This morning I ordered a jig from amazon so I can fix it.
No volume keys screws it up in more ways than one.
I am ordering a Nexus 4 this week from Google. I wouldn't if the volume wasn't messed up. I would of rather just kept my Galaxy Nexus as I really love it. Its every Samsung I've had all rolled into one with the best of Android, all the time, on time.
Screen brand new less than a week old and I cant use it. Wish I could buy another gnex that needs a screen. I'm very good with electronics and I really can't believe I messed the volume up. I really don't want to try to solder it myself. I don't have the proper pensil soldering iron anyway.
Thanks for reading. Figured this was fine in the General section being all about a GNex.
Anyone have this type of luck sometimes? Or is there no such thing as luck?
Of all the devices I've owned I've never broken a screen. My favorite phone of all of them gets the worst of me.
You paid 175 for a new screen and you wont use cuz the volume up button?
With a few bucks you send it to service and its fixed...
I might give them a call.
Need a phone. Can't wait a couple weeks for it to come back. I'm going to use it until the 4 comes and then sending it off would be a good option.

I don't know how much you would want, but I'd be willing to buy that screen for a few bucks. Lemme know

I couldn't sell it. I might could sell the whole phone down the road but I'm going to be okay without the volume keys once the jig comes.
I can't wait to be one of the first to use Ubuntu phone.
Called today and they said that since I have an international phone I must contact the UK to get it repaired.
What gives? Anyone know how I can go about sending it in for repair?
I just got this phone in the mail from ebay today. it was in mint condition, came unlocked (so the seller must have done something with it).
I turned this on, and touch doesn't work. the s pen works perfectly, and the capacitive buttons on the bottom also work perfectly fine via touch. I have to use the stylus to do anything at all. What could be wrong and most importantly... HOW DO I FIX THIS :crying: ? I don't want to send it back quite yet in case this is something I can do myself. The phone is not rooted AFAIK and has the stock ATT rom.
UPDATE:
I loaded TWRP on it and touch doesn't work in recovery either. I was going to flash the TMo stock rom on it, but if touch doesn't work in recovery, then it's not gonna be fixed I think unless I got a new digitizer (or screen?). Sadly, I'm going to have to get a refund on ebay. Thank you all for your help.
Bad digitizer? It was sold second hand for a reason, maybe that was it. I would be sending it back ASAP.

Agreed. ...send it back. ..
Either the software is jacked up. ..(easy fix)...
Or the digitizer is bad. ..($300 range plus labor)
I'm feeling like you got took....g

Unless the seller stated the defect in the description the buyer is protected. So hopefully the OP read the description.

Yes...hopefully. ..
I guess we don't know the details. ..
Thanks brother. ..g
I am protected under ebay buyer protection, because this imperfection was not stated in the ebay description. The seller stated that "it was in good condition when i sent it I checked" (sounds kinda dodgy to me). I will get my money back and get a tmo note 2 (since I'm a tmo subscriber. my wife accidentally got an unlocked att model). However I am downloading the t mobile odin firmware and maybe by flashing that it will fix it. it seems like it cant be a digitizer or capacitive touchscreen issue because the home menu and back buttons all work by touch.
I hope you are fortunate in the attempt. ..
Having a non working device after the time and money that gets invested. ..can be difficult. ..
I wish you success. ..and if the efforts fail...
Here's to the next excellent device. ..
I'm glad you have the ebay protection from those who peddle questionable wares...g
