So a cracked the glass and took the small chance i could fix my GSM Nexus.
WRONG
I broke the LCD and now im stuck with a non functioning mobile.
DO I.
Replace the Screen and LCD for around £150
Do i send it off to Samsung for a repair?
Do i bite the bullet and get a nexus 4 and sell mine as spares or repair?
Thanks
N
if you have warranty sent it to sammy... if you dont then
a. if you are tired of this phone, get the n4 and sell it(but i dont think you will get much if you sell it damaged)
b. if you dont mind using this phone, get it fixed and keep it
PS- this thread should be posted in the Q&A section :good:
More than anything i just feel gutted about damaging my phone....
Spending £150+ on getting it repaired seems silly considering a new phone is £240..
DO NOT replace cracked glass screen unless you have the LCD also.. You will not be able to do it!

Hi guys,
I've had a Galaxy Nexus for a very long time now and have been very happy with it. These days however, a very annoying charging problem appeared on my Galaxy Nexus. Basically, the device doesn't 'recognize' if it's charging or not. You can read more about the problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539
Now I want to fix my Galaxy Nexus under warranty, because that's the safest way and I don't want to invest any money in it anymore since I plan on buying the new Nexus when it comes out. Problem is, my Galaxy Nexus' screen broke a few weeks ago (For the people who are wondering how; phone fell on the ground and then a biker rode over it...) and I'm not sure if Samsung will fix my phone under warranty since I'm 99% sure it's a hardware issue and it COULD have been from the drop which broke my screen (which I'm 100% sure it's not, because I had the same problem some months ago, but it promptly disappeared and just a few days ago, which means it was a few weeks after the drop, the problem came back.)
Anyone here can tell me what Samsung's and my rights are and if they will fix it? I'm currently visiting family in China, so if I'm not sure if Samsung's going to fix it, I can probably let it fix in China for cheaper, but that's not my preferred option, since it will officially break my warranty (and still costs money of course ).
Anyone? There must be someone who has some experience in warranties... ?
Is the glass cracked?
Warranties cover problems/defects from normal use. If they see the broken glass they will tell you that the problem was caused by an accident or drop which is not their fault.
you may get lucky and they could replace it, but its their decision.

Yes, the glass is broken. So basically, you'd recommend me to let it repair for cheap in China? Thanks for your answer by the way!
Screen replacements aren't cheap either..$100-$150 at least

You should get quotes from a few places before repairing, If someone offers to replace it WAY cheap than the others it may be a poor quality screen they're using. The most expensive one will be samsung though. ( I supposed since its OEM)
I know screen replacements aren't cheap, I've done my research. The problem is that the glass is linked to the whole screen which means you've basically got to replace half of your phone just for the glass. The cheapest I've found for a repair is about 190 euro.
But that's NOT what I meant. Because it's so expensive I've decided to not repair the screen and wait for the new Nexus phone. I can live a few months with a broken screen. I can't live with this charging issue however so I just want to fix the mini USB port. I got my contacts in China, so bad quality isn't a problem.
So basically I got two options:
1. Let the USB port fix in China for cheap
2. Let the USB port fix by Samsung in Europe (where I live) under warranty, but have a chance to be denied thanks to the broken screen.
And you guys recommend me to do the first one right?
Someone that can help me for the last time?

I don't know how comfortable you feel about getting it repaired in China, but if you really trust your contacts, then get both of them done there. Since you said that you are going to get the new Nexus when it comes out, you really don't have anything to lose.
I do have trusts in my contacts in China. Just wasn't sure if I should do it because I will probably lose my warranty and it costs money. But I've decided: I'm hoping to let it repair in China, thank you! (Only the USB port btw, not screen).
They will likely deny your claim for a warranty replacement and tell you that it was probably just damaged when it fell. Unless you can actually prove to a rep that the issue happened before the drop. Even so, cracked glass generally voids your warranty as user inflicted abuse. Factory warranty generally only covers problems cause by the makers of the device. Anything else and the warranty is voided and the claim dismissed.
Source: I dropped my last Samsung phone. Cracked glass, bad radio. Was going to be warranty replaced, until I dropped it. They had on file my claim for the bad radio, but since the screen cracked after the fact they told me that voided the warranty and they absolutely would not honor the replacement. I had to pay an insurance deductible and get it replaced for $99USD.

This was the answer I was looking for. Thanks!
My father-in-law recently bought an S3 and his screen cracked in the corner. He called it in and they said that they would replace it for him for $XX, and that he didn't need to send in the broke one. This is what he told me the insurance people said to him mind you, I've never heard of anything like that before but who knows. The phone still works perfectly but the cracked screen is an eye sore for such a great looking phone.
I want to see if he will sell me his screen cracked phone but that's only if I'm able to get it fixed. So........ [Q] Is there anywhere to send the phone in to get a new screen? And if so.... Does anyone know around how much it'll run?
I appreciate any legitimate info anyone can give me.
I know the iphone 4s the screens were $100 to get fixed. So at least twice that.

what they do is send you a replacement and in the same box you place your old one. if not they will give you information on what store or samsung place to go where they will fix it for you in about 15 min. like actually replace the screen only. since it is insured most of it will be covered except for about 100$ roughly.
so i got a s2 with a bad lcd screen, it leaked. the phone is like a week old with no insurance and im sure warranty wont cover this.
anyhow, i can't seem to find the replacement for the tmobile version, only for the international.
can they be cross-used?
anyhow, does anyone knows where to get it? can't seem to find the right one on ebay or anywhere else for that matter.
any help would really be appreciated.

You might be out of luck on this one. The screen is fused to the digitizer and the screen is an AMOLED screen which is not common in aftermarket and as far as i know is proprietary to samsung .

i found that is the whole front housing and lcd/digitizer.
i got the phone for free, and i was thinking on replacing my really beat up sensation with it... for 150 bucks sounds ok, but, it's from china, i dont like that :/
edit: i couldn't find a thread on the forums, but, here is a place where to get the full front off the device, which should make the whole fixing easy:

Hmmm that should work if its a T999, were did you get parts (cracked phone) cauz that is really cheap...?
One thing to consider is if it has a cracked screen, it obviously suffered an impact. Possible it couldve damaged something internally as well.

i have a sgs3 t999 also hard brick jtag here in mexico didnt work so i think only solucion right now is to swapp the mobo ..where did u find that cracked phone so cheap ??? i look one mobo on ebay is 160 $ .. just make sure ESN is clean..:good:
Now before everyone gets on my case about not having a case (heh), this is the first phone I have had that has ever spider cracked on me since owning a Android Phone. I always have a screen protector on so it's never been a problem.
My concern right now, I am going into to T-Mobile here in a couple hours when they open and going to get a new phone. What are the chances they try to offer me a refurbished phone or I just get a new one?
Secondly, how would I go about transferring everything over to the new phone? Just use the Samsung App?
Thanks in advance guys!
How are you going to get them to replace a phone that you dropped in the first place? Wouldn't that be an insurance replacement that wouldn't be handled by T-Mobile? Please don't take offense to this I'm just asking. I don't know your exact situation but if you are wanting to replace it because you shattered the glass or whatever than that would be done through insurance and that would be a refurbished phone.

No worries! Considering I bought a new phone and it's like 3 months old, I should get a new phone. That's the logic I'm going by.
Looks like it will be cheaper to just replace the back side for $60 then to potentially get a refurb for $200....
