I just want to ask before i do it but like a noob i flashed something i wasnt suppose to and the op said clearly it probaly will brick your phone but like a noob i did it anyway(cant believe i did it argghh) this is my first hardbrick ever but instead of jtagging it i want to just replace the motherboard. i was thinking of buying another s3 with a cracked screen off ebay they are running up to like 25 bucks a lot cheaper. what i want to know first is will a cracked screen effect the motherboard in anyway or just the screen and is it hard to take apart the s3? thanks

Hmmm that should work if its a T999, were did you get parts (cracked phone) cauz that is really cheap...?
One thing to consider is if it has a cracked screen, it obviously suffered an impact. Possible it couldve damaged something internally as well.

I've just dropped my phone and the screen has cracked. The touchscreen still works the same and there is none of them funny colours on the screen like when you break an lcd so think I have just broke the glass surrounding the case.
Any idea how much it would be to get this repaired, don't have insurance on it and it's the first phone I've ever broken (absolutely gutted)
Screen repairs are expensive. If you're brave you could always give it a go yourself, but i know it's around about 100£ or so for a screen repair on a device like the DHD.
If you send it to HTC make sure if you have a custom ROM to put the stock one back on and un-root and set the CID back to default.

I've had a look at the price for the part and its only £35 for the replacement part, I wouldn't mind having a try at fixing it just need to figure out how to do it as I cannot see any you tube videos on how to do this.

Do I have to do this if I sent it back as it is not a repair under warranty I am after. Mind you I have seen the prices they want to fix it and it's quite expensive
Took me long enough to figure out how to root it and then find a ROM I like, don't fancy the hassle of unrooting it

If the phone is still usable take out some insurance, buy a case (to prevent further damage), give it a month or so, then claim off the insurance.

thats what I've been looking at , will cost about 90 quid if I do it that way with the excess and insurance.
The part isn't too expensive and would give it a try but cannot find any guides on how to do it and looks much more complicated to do than the wifes blackberry screen which I replaced myself last year

If your going to do that (commit insurance fraud), you may wish to stop discussing it on a public forum.

from what I have read on this it's not the lcd that's broke it is just the glass screen digitizer.
That link you sent me does sort of have a step by step guide how to replace it, shame theres no video showing how to actually replace the screen but think I might have a go at it anyway
so i got a s2 with a bad lcd screen, it leaked. the phone is like a week old with no insurance and im sure warranty wont cover this.
anyhow, i can't seem to find the replacement for the tmobile version, only for the international.
can they be cross-used?
anyhow, does anyone knows where to get it? can't seem to find the right one on ebay or anywhere else for that matter.
any help would really be appreciated.

You might be out of luck on this one. The screen is fused to the digitizer and the screen is an AMOLED screen which is not common in aftermarket and as far as i know is proprietary to samsung .

i found that is the whole front housing and lcd/digitizer.
i got the phone for free, and i was thinking on replacing my really beat up sensation with it... for 150 bucks sounds ok, but, it's from china, i dont like that :/
edit: i couldn't find a thread on the forums, but, here is a place where to get the full front off the device, which should make the whole fixing easy:
http://www.etradesupply.com/samsung...nd-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
So a cracked the glass and took the small chance i could fix my GSM Nexus.
WRONG
I broke the LCD and now im stuck with a non functioning mobile.
DO I.
Replace the Screen and LCD for around £150
Do i send it off to Samsung for a repair?
Do i bite the bullet and get a nexus 4 and sell mine as spares or repair?
Thanks
N
if you have warranty sent it to sammy... if you dont then
a. if you are tired of this phone, get the n4 and sell it(but i dont think you will get much if you sell it damaged)
b. if you dont mind using this phone, get it fixed and keep it
PS- this thread should be posted in the Q&A section :good:
More than anything i just feel gutted about damaging my phone....
Spending £150+ on getting it repaired seems silly considering a new phone is £240..
DO NOT replace cracked glass screen unless you have the LCD also.. You will not be able to do it!

JTAG service is like 25$ (mobiletechvideos.com) as far as I can remember, could be wrong.
The screen/digitalizer have nothing to do with the mobo, so just make sure that the one you're getting works. Also, it's fairly easy to take apart, just follow a guide/video.

I'd highly suggest staying with your carrier's mobo but you can go with tmo if you really want, you'll just have to use their ROM/modem.
EDIT: Just saw you're on tmo, you're in the wrong section kinda confused me.
Also, I'm not so sure I fully understand what you said.

I'm pretty sure you can but you will have to use tmo's modem/rom and such.
As for the mobo, they should be the same shape. I'm sure you can google it though.

oh ok thanks man appreciate your ill hit the thanks button for ya
Long story short, I had last Monday, managed to goof up and drop my phone about a foot or a foot and a half off the ground and lucky me it dropped on the corner and popped the digitizer. Multicolored awesomeness across the top, giant black hole on the top left corner and green going across like 80% of the screen on the side. It worked for a second, but then I set it down a bit too hard and it just stopped completely.
So, I've looked up a video on replacing it and it doesn't seem too terribly hard; the only issue is when I had replaced my IPod Touch(4th gen) screen I broke the power button and just left it broken because I didn't feel like fixing that because... off topic. Point is I really would like to not mess this replacement up.
I have no warranty
I am on the (bootleg xD) family mobile so upgrading isnt an option....
So, my questions are:
1.What are some reputable places, like ebay or could the wireless retailers do it?
2.Should I just attempt the repair myself and save a few bucks?
I looked on amazon for screen + digitizer and its all 120$+
I also called this one place near me and they said it would cost 175$...
Most repair services will charge close to $200 last I looked. Id suggest buying a used device on ebay, maybe with a bad imei (all that matters is the display), then swap motherboards. Otherwise get an assembly that is already attached to the housing. This will save tons of work and potential mess ups.
The T999 motherboards will only fit in T999 or I747 housings. Do not buy a used Sprint or Verizon S3.

So, the ONLY thing needed replaced would be the mother board?
Would the T999 motherboard work with a I757 phone?
If by replaced you mean swapped out with yours, yes. And your T999 motherboard will fit in either an I747 or T999 housing.
---------- Post added at 08:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:28 PM ----------
You might choose to swap other components such as the vibrating motor, speaker, camera, etc, but thats up to you to decide if you want to test to find which is better.

Forgive me, I wasn't really clear with my last question.
So, for example: If I were to buy an I747 with a bad ESN, could i swap the motherboard with my T999?
I'm sorry if I am asking too much, I just want to make sure i get the right thing without spending too much.

Yes, if you replace the I747 motherboard with the T999 one, the device basically becomes a T999.
Thank you for your patience Doc! I really appreciate it!
No problem! Glad i could help!
