Hey,
Just curious if anyone has had an issues with a Vertical Black Line on there screen,
i notice it mainly with things that are orange or red,
everything else seemed to be fine had the phone a few months,
i sent it in for repair,
but just curious if this is a common thing,
I've never personally heard of that happening, and its definitely not happening on my phone. Did you grab a photo before you sent it back at all? Curious.
Sounds like a hardware issue, such as screen gone bad, or ribbon cable or other connection becoming loose.
The issue of vertical lines on the screen popped up fairly occasionally back in the days when slide or flip-open keyboards were in vogue. The moving joint between the screen and the rest of the phone would sometimes cause the ribbon cable to fray or become loose.
same issue
got it back from repair . same issue said on the slip they flashed software.
issue still there mainly when u look at red images

That's pretty f... up! This is most definitely hardware issue and they should have taken care of it. Problem is always to describe the problem to repair center good enough to make them see it.... Next time you should leave a pic on the phone with which the prob is easily recognizable and make them look at it.
Yes ,
A red background will be on it when its sent back, and nothing elese but the background,
i explained it pretty good to them , but will certainly be sending it back again
got it back ,screen replaced and bezel ,software says official now and not tampered and says relocked its workin great

My Hermes 8525 display has gone fully white.. I cant see or do anything on it.. Anyone got any idea why this is so ??

try searching...
typed in " white screen hermes" and came up with a heap of links... heres 1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2254487
Did the display fade to white? Or did you turn your screen back on and find it was all white?
There's a known problem for HTC Hermes with the D-pas causing white screen, and a little mod to fix it by putting something behind the D-Pad itself such as a small very thin piece of foam. Obviously this requires taking your mobile apart.
If you flashed and then got a white screen I'd try getting into your bootloader and take it from there....

Hi,
had the same problem. I took the battery out (read this in one post somewhere here) and then everything went ok. I also saw the post about the dpad, but was not nessesary. Although I think I was just lucky. I think that it happens often, you should do that.
Regards,
They display faded into White.. It was working fine. one fine day, as i was replying to a text message.. or when searching phone book.. or any action.. slowly the entire screen faded into white.. once i did a restart and removed the battery a cpl of times and it seemed ok.. but now its permanently white.. i cant even enter boot logger mode.. or even if i did, i wont know or cant see that i am in bootlogger mode...
Any ideas??

1st, scuse please 1st post, bad day at work...
1. Does it get hot anywhere on the front of the hermes. A mate of mine had a capacitor burn out that caused white screen...
2. Try opening the keypad then reseting. This worked for mine BUT it is a pressure issue and as I closed it found that touching a certain spot in the bottom right corner of the casing would make it whitescreen again.
Other than that you might have to open up your hermes to try and fix...
Heres how to open up :http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1
Make sure you have the correct tools though as it makes life easier. No. 6 torque key and a flat bladed screwdriver are good..
Cheers...
I just had the same problem on my TyTN. Everything but the cover and battery was replaced in warranty and now it is solved. It seem to be the connectors to the screen that crack.

Read the thread for this and see if you are having the same problem as many of these people. It helped me figure my own problem out a lot. Good luck

This is the same thing that happened to me At&T told me it was the D-pad because that broke before my white screen issue and they replaced it for me
white screen probs
had the same problem on a few hermes now....replaced the screen to no availl....after many other trials i replaced the circuit board under the d-pad and problem sloved.....i havnt got the know how to test the board for faults but i would agree that the board is the problem any one know what the function of the part is exactly....screen controller????
screws...
I had the same problem and was able to fix it temporarily using the foam-behind-the-Dpad-connector trick several (like 6 or 7) times but it always went white again within a few days. I finally got it to stick by loosening the tiny screws on the connector very slightly...haven't had a problem since. I'm not entirely convinced it wasn't just completely luck though. But seriously after so many times trying different thicknesses of foam and banging my head against the wall, I'm glad something worked. And now I can take it apart and put it back together in about 7 minutes, so that's a bonus! Might be worth a try if the foam thing doesn't work. Good luck.

Hey thanks all you guys.. I guess its the D-Pad connector issue.. will follow the resolution suggestions.. I will let you know if that helped...
mine fades to white everyonce in a while then comes back or i have to take the battery out and all is fine. it did it when i put wm6.1 on it. was perfect before i did that.
hi there
ive been having this issue for ages and have opened my handset to reseat the connector no fewer than 14 times in the last 2 weeks
today i had a breakthrough though,
what i did was completely cleaned the connectors using rubbing alcohol and a q-tip
the important bit: RESEAT the connector properly. it may look like its reseated but look at it side on and it should be perfectly flat, and if necessary push on it a little to make sure its seated
then, on the back cover (which you removed to get access to th d-pad) you'll notice a little rectangle 'pad' there roughly in the same place as the d-pad connector
get a white sticky label, or a post-it note or whatever and stick a little piece over that
then seal your phone back up and it should work.
i cant promise anything though, and any damage you do to your phone is entirely your responsibility
Hi to all,
A couple of days ago I noticed that when I answered a call the colors of the screen looked bad, and I didn't pay attention to it.
Now my screen has transparent horizontal lines which are pretty visible, kind of like interference you get in computer screens when you take a picture of them.
I would like to mention that I haven't dropped the phone even once.
I'm considering doing a factory resest in hopes that it will solve the problem, but I doubt that it is a software issue.
What do you guys think?
Please advise
Itay
Sounds like a broken screen to me. And definitely like a warrenty case. Restore stock f/w if you have flashed and return it.
Restore the original firmware (if you have flashed the phone) and call the samsung service for the assistance.
the thing is that now I don't see it at all.
It's as if it came and gone.
I disabled my task killer and juice defender, performed a complete titanium backup, in case I want to restore afterwards, and now everything is normal.
It does sound like a hardware issue, but do you think there's a chance it is software related?
I'm asking because I purchased it in europe, and I don't live there, so sending it for repair is something I would rather avoid.
Of course, if it is indeed 100% hardare issue, I have no choice.
That is why I'm asking, to be certain and to see if there are others who experienced this issue.
Your replies are much appreciated
update:
It appeared again -> Did a Factory Reset -> It's still there -> Sending for repair.
Must be a hardware issue.
Thank you for your replies.
I've actually always had slight screen issues with my Galaxy S also. The screen flickers slightly once in a while. I don't know if the radio is actually the cause but it's the kind of thing you might expect from radio interference.
Has anybody else noticed this?

Nope, never seen any flicker. My screen seems to have a defect of it's own though, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to send it in, because I imported mine from the UK while I live in South Africa.
When in the sun or under bright light I can see a two vertical lines near the sides and a horizontal line on dark/black colours and when the screen is off. As if those pixels have a grey/brown tint to them. The line is mostly one pixel thick but in places it is two pixels.
They are almost impossible to see unless under sunlight where they are clearly visible where the screen is black.
Does anyone else see this or know anything about it?
Edit: Apparently it's just the motherboard or something visible through the screen and they all have it, so I'm worrying about nothing...
That's interesting...
It used to come and go, but I think now it's here to stay.
It's really annoying and the screen, while usable, is really not a pleasant sight to look at.
I've attached some photos showing the problem.
With a normal screen I would say that it looks that way because that's what you see when you photograph a screen of an electronic device, but the sad thing is that what you see in the picture is exactly what I'm seeing now.
I did a factory reset, so it's in german now.
I heard some Droid X had a similar problem, but didn't know Galaxy S was having it as well.
In any event, can you confirm that after a factory reset, I no longer have root access?
Just making sure so that they don't give me problems with the warranty.
seem like the phone was dropped, and the screen got damaged
the connectors are lose
double posted again....
Really?
That's very weird...
The only time it was "dropped" was from half a meter , it didn't fall directly but partially sideways, it was with a case, and it landed on its back, not on the screen.
I wouldn't even call that a fall.
Unless, someone in my family dropped it without telling me...
Either way, I think there's no escape but to send it to repair.
If you think it's a problem with the connectors, would you try and give it to some local lab to try and fix it or send it to samsung for replacement?
I faced similar problem.
This problem only occurs when I use the phone in 2g mode.
there are occasions whereby the signal bar for 2g is full and when I place the phone near some conductive surfaces the lines becomes very obvious, to the point of irritating.
nit sure if anyone has such problems too
I have same problems with horizontal lines.
I never paid attention if i am on 2g or 3g when it happens. I will now.
Edit: rooted on jm5

It seems that my phone too has started to do the same thing since last night.
I have called Samsung and am waiting to hear from them now.
I hope this is a thing covered in the warranty.
I have reverted to the local ROM for India and have deleted everything on my device.
Yet it shows lines flickering like you can see on old computer monitors.
Its not as bad as the ones on the attachment above but it is starting to annoy me.
It usually happens when the screen is completely filled with a single color except black.
Eg. When you pull down the notification tray down.
Also I seem to notice that when the wifi is off, it stops.(I dunno maybe a placebo effect)
aditya_t90 ,
I have sent it to Samsung for repair, and they should tell me in the coming days exactly what the problem is and whether it can be fixed under warranty or not.
I will update as soon as I hear from them.
Until then, try to see if it changes when you hold the phone differently, for example if you grip it more firmly or hold it in another way.

When did you send it in and when did they receive it(if you were not there when they got it).
Also how long has it been without your phone?
The samsung service center is shut in my area today.
I will go to them tomorrow and get this sorted out.
Its not like the phone was cheap or anything.
I actually sent it to my uncle in Germany because it was purchased there.
He went to the store where he bought it and the store owner immediately sent it to samsung and said that probably by this Tuesday or Wednesday (so tomorrow or in 2 days) he will get an answer from them and see what's going on.
aditya_90 ,
Just to let you know that Samsung are sending me a new phone to replace the damaged one.
I sent in my phone for repairs and they replaced the LCD module. The problem is now gone.
I suggest that you should do the same while the warranty still holds since it appears to be the LCD that failed somewhat.
My desire Z is reasonably new a few months old. But Itd been let without use for about a month and when I took it out I noticed now when I open the keyboard the screen goes purpleish, not all over but tinged in places. White is purple in some places and there's green blotches near on screen icons. It looks like the colours have been dragged to the right slightly. I think its a hardware issue but its a pain
When keyboard is closed the problem usually isn't present or sometimes the distortion is minimal. ALSO iv now noticed the hard QWERTY keyboard no longer seems to function right eithar. Some letters arnt working most of the time.
Anyway ink how to repair it or know a guide? I this it mit be something to do with the cable.
If you want to strip your phone down to check that the ribbon you see when sliding the keyboard out then look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003310
There is videos showing you how to take the phone apart to replace the hinge spring, sounds to me to be a faulty display though.
If you do take the phone apart there is a screw with void sticker so your warranty will be good and gone,if it is a faulty display you could still un root and get it replaced?
Wait to see if anyone else has any ideas before breaking out the screwdrivers,
No its not a faulty display. Display is ok when screen is closed. Also I used a tweezers to push the cable in as much as I could at the back and it fixed the screen. . . . .QWERTY was still not as good as it shud be (but slightly improved) but after maybe 15open and shuts it came out again.
So this means I have to open it and unloosen it right? No simpler easier way to do it?
And the keyboard problems are caused by the cable too afaik.
The method in the video is the only way I know to gain access to the ribbons socket, still think warranty is your best bet as you have pointed out the keyboard is faulty,if you open it up and cant replace the void sticker/something goes wrong, then the warranty is gone and you have a broken phone...........................
Oh I forgot to mention I have no warranty so its no loss to me xD. The keyboard was fine when I got it though so it didn't come from factory faulty.
Ok then,if you want to have a fiddle about inside then you will need a 5 Torx driver to open up the back and a philips(very small)helps to have a magnetised one as the screws can be fiddly once you pop the case open, watch that video in the link I gave you to see how its done, best of luck
Lovely I'll give it a go. Thank you
Good stuff,If you need any advice PM and will see if I can help bud.
Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this with their Play but as of a week or two ago the backlight started acting strange. The backlight will randomly stay off when I push the power button with the slider gamepad closed. Only way to make it come on is to pop out the slider. It seems to be random, and if I push on the slider edge slightly with my thumb with the slider closed the backlight randomly flickers, ranging from slight to severe.
The display is still working despite the backlight issues, I can open apps, and use the phone normally but the backlight flickers on and off. Makes it especially hard to use the phone in the dark.
Phone has never been dropped once.
I've replicated this problem with a variety of roms, both custom and stock. It's definitely not app related or even custom kernel related. It happens on a fresh wipe with stock rom with stock kernel. It happens on CM7 with custom kernel.
I'm curious if anybody else is experiencing this. It would tell me if it's just an isolated incident or if others are having this problem.
Sounds like a faulty connection to the backlight to me.
I had the same problem 2 days ago. Then I couldn't get my phone screen on at all!
I sent my phone back to Sony, even thought I bought it second hand. Phoned them up and talked to them. They asked what time of year I bought it so I said around August and then they gave me the address to send it to. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens next.
If your going to send your phone to Sony for repair then make sure you put the fresh firmware back on and un-root your phone as that breaks the warranty (unless they don't know about it)
Hope I helped you. If I did then click the thanks button
Sounds like a faulty ribbon cable to me. (cable that connects the screen to the rest of the phone)
You wouldn't need to drop it for that to go bad, It could just be a case of opening and closing the gamepad or lot.
Yeah good thoughts, most likely the ribbon. That really sucks because I've only had the phone for 7 months, and I've taken excellent care of it. Sounds like a major design oversight.
Mine is probably near complete failure at this point. It's taking a lot more effort to keep the screen on now. Fearing soon it won't work at all.
In hopes that this might help someone else down the line, I was able to fix my problem. Yesterday the screen pretty much quit and I had no choice but to try and solve it myself or buy a new phone.
Using this disassembly video as a visual aid I carefully pulled my phone apart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE
You'll need a torx T5 tool to pull out all the screws but they are cheap.
Underneath the phone and jammed into the screen ribbon was a rather thick hair just hanging out. Somehow it buried itself in there. I removed it, unplugged and replugged the screen ribbon and cleaned the dusty inside with a q-tip and reassembled it all together.
It works fine now, so hopefully this helps someone else avoid having to pony up for a new phone. For those under warranty probably best to send back but for those like me with no warranty it's worth the shot.
Hey guys, today I noticed something weird on the left-est (if that's even a word) panel of my HOX. When i click on bottom half of the screen, a white pixel appears and stays there until i touch the screen again and sometimes the white pixel just flashes! This only happens on the 1st panel (from the left) and I don't know if it's just a glitch or a hardware problem. The thing is, this is my second HOX (I had another one for 1 week before replacing it (it had a small black circle-y spot) ) and I had it for more than 2 weeks and the returns policy of the store I bought it from says that they can't replace it if it's more than 2 weeks old. Any ideas if it's hardware or software related, or even ways to check so?
UPDATE:
I think you'd want to know that I have an HT23 model
I had a similar problem with a bright red pixel at the left of the center of the screen. It usually appeared when I am not touching the screen and disappears when I do. After the screen got a yellow tint that appeared next to the volume up button which got worse the hotter the phone got, I took it to the shop and they replaced the "touch, battery and speaker". Touch pretty much means screen as well, I have no idea why they changed the other 2.
It's definitely a hardware problem since I had a similar issue with a stock phone. Btw the yellow tint appeared after 5-6 months, the red pixel was there pretty much from the beginning.

So should I go and ask/demand for a replacement? It doesn't bother me, I don't even use that panel at all, what annoys me is the fact that this is the second HOX I've had and it also has a problem!
It's a hardware fault go and demand for a replacing (HT26+/SH26+).And, if someone later on (in this thread or else ware) suggest to use a software to fix it. Don't bother with it.
I have HT25 with yellow tint showing from time to time. It's annoying me, and still I didn't get the chance to give to to HTC care.

But, if they tell me that my returning period has passed, what will I tell them?
