I'm really hoping the reason they are taking so long to push VoLTE to more-than-capable devices like the Note 3/4 is that they are just putting it in the Lollipop update. Otherwise it's unacceptable.

I'd rather they do it right. I can live with 3 g calling because its got better signal at the house anyway. LTE goes up and down. I assume because of tower load

Agreed. I would also bet that the initial phase won't be a great experience
..lots of dropped calls for the first few months on VOLTE. I think we will be glad we have the old style simultaneous voice and data for the foreseeable future.

Your link only shows that the note 4 is not presently using advanced calling. It does not tell me if the phone is capable.

It is capable. There is a VoLTE configuration menu in the directory. Probably needs a software update but it will eventually be an option. Although from the reviews by other devices that already use VoLTE I have seen it might not be such a great thing...lots of dropped calls if you transition from an LTE area to 3G (sometimes just walking into a building).

That link shows all of the Verizon devices that are currently VoLTE capable. The Note 4 is not currently VoLTE capable.
A future update will make it VoLTE capable.

No worries...I think it will be a great feature, eventually. I have heard some horror stories of dropped calls on the devices that actually have it. Apparently the pass off between VoLTE and the other bands (like when you enter a building) is a problem. The fact that it is version 1.0 now was a big factor in me not going with a Nexus 6 and choosing the Note 4. No voice and data until VoLTE rolls out is a joke. That was standard functionality 4 years ago...huge step backwards IMO.

I completely agree, i to chose to go with the Note instead of the N6, i just hope i dont regret it. The issue with the VR was a joke also, if you cant configure your kernel correctly after what i assume was at least a year of research and labs, to work with a company that you have full access to necessary info...i just hope i didnt pick the wrong unit.

If stands true someone posted when we get our lollipop update in alleged May release Advanced Calling 2.0 will be on our phones. I have not found anything stating the truth to this, accept that it possibly adds wifi ability.

It was just someone claiming that a Verizon rep told them it would be released in May. Nothing even remotely reliable. You can see the post here if you really want to.

So I got the Lollipop update yesterday (in JFK between flights! yikes!) and I notice the Advanced Calling is there, but I haven't activated it.
I had heard some good and some bad from previous users. Did we get something good or should I leave it off?
Is it something I can DE-activate if it sucks?

It is capable and available. The option must be checked. Also, the free add on must be added to your account. On the my Verizon app it is in the services section.

It was enabled in the NK5 stage 1 update applied to our phones on upgrade and was carried forward into Lollipop. The function shows as Advanced Calling in our settings but as stated does require Verizon to activate the service on the account. The following is from the Lollipop system log and shows the system is looking for it if enabled.
D/RegistrationManager( 1647): isVoiceCallAvailable : result [false] pdnType [ims] isVolteEnabled [true] isVoPSEnabled [true] isSSACEnabled [true] isPublishFailed [false] isDmVolteEnabled [false] isInviteForbidden [false]

I have been trying to figure this out for an entire day. Turns out, this feature is not available for prepaid accounts. Cannot enable the option in settings because it tries to add the feature through the My Verizon app.

Simultaneous Voice and Data on Sprint 3G

Maybe I missed this but I didn't think that Sprints 3G service allowed for simultaneous voice and data.
I'm in Canton, Ohio and I just noticed that today I'm able to both use the phone and browse the Web at the same time without WIFI.
I can only assume that this is a network vision thing. LTE isn't in my future for a little while but I thought this was a good sign. Anyone else notice this?

I noticed this in STL over the weekend, I am not sure how long it has been this way because like you I "knew" it didn't work so never tried it. I just happened to get an email while on a call.
SVDO isn't a network feature or capability. It's only dependent on the phone having multiple data and voice antennas, and the Galaxy S3 does.

So I can use data while on the phone with my Galaxy SIII??? Wow, that's AWESOME!:good:
Going to have to try this out once I'm in an area that isn't being 'visioned'.....right now I don't have connectivity even though my phone says that I do.
I found out the same way you guys did (im in Tampa) and did some reading and was really surprised to find out that our phones did out the box....made me love the phone even more.
Yes. Today. I received a call while downloading and it still downloading...nice.
Not like my Epic4g downloading a file 100mb and on 92mb some call you to say Hi!

This statement isn't exactly true. It is both a phone and network feature. The towers need to accept multiple connections from the same phone id, as well as the phone needs to have the multi channel capabilities. Sprint used to block this, but doesn't anymore.

Reading this thread I thought you have all gone bonkers, but since my sgs3 is not connected yet I couldn't test this myself. Well my coworker has the evo lte.....hmm they have the same internals so I got him to try, it certainly does work. This feature is not advertised, would be hilarious if sprint didn't even know this.

I don't know anything about Samsung ads, but the SVDO capability is listed in all the spec sheets I've seen. Sprint had to request the capability from Samsung, so Sprint must know the feature is included.

Ha. When Sprint activates HD Voice, I anticipate a ton of threads with people asking why voice calls don't sound better on the S3. Then, they'll throw a fit when they're told the S3 doesn't support it. It's just like all the people in non-LTE areas asking why their 4G no longer works even though they had full signal on their Evo or Epic 4G. No one wants to spend time researching their purchases.
I have to admin
I have to admin that when I finally switched from my blackberry to the S3, I was so used to having wifi on that when I was on a call and my email was still coming in or I was able to launch a browser and look things up, I nearly went crazy. Being in IT I never looked up the phone specs to be honest other than being highly anxious to install applications from the Play Store and do things I couldn't do with my old device. Now I'm just looking for a good rom to root the device for wifi, lol.
I've been driving iSheep off the iphone5 with specifically this feature (not that there aren't at least a dozen more. I think that with the financial future of Sprint in the hands of Apple and the sales of iPhones the lack of dual antennas because it has a 'dynamic antenna' is going to cripple anyone who needs/wants that feature. To me SVDO is something that killed me when we didn't have it and now that I do I can never go without it.
Is anybody can explain then why when streaming the radio if I receive a text massage the radio stops (I know because of that ring) but it goes to buffer and chokes till start streaming again. This is the same as any other phone before so SVDS no benefit here.

No. The chipset does not support the SVDO capability.
http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-343-a-short-time-from-now-in-a-galaxy-not-far-away/
As for simultaneous voice and data, the Galaxy S4 does support SVLTE but is the latest in a long line of Sprint LTE handsets now to forgo SVDO. Realistically, this comes as no great surprise, as we have not seen SVDO capability in any new handset since last summer. Either this is a limitation of the Qualcomm MDM9615 baseband modem that has become standard equipment or SVDO is no longer a strong priority as Sprint LTE coverage grows weekly. Regardless, CDMA1X and EV-DO share a transmit path (indicated in the FCC OET diagram above); hence, simultaneous CDMA1X voice and EV-DO data is not supported.

[Q] browse while talking on phone? lg g3

Is it true that you can't browse or do something else while you're talking on phone?
??? Obviously this is not true, I do all sort of things while talking on the phone... Whoever told you that is either playing you or is just dumb
That is true of the iPhone's on a Verizon network and I believe sprint but not true of the android devices.
False I always use chrome, XDA or something while talking on my Bluetooth headset. After all being on hold is boring.

Okay. I've been searching and it seems its because of the provider. And not the phone. Not working if you use Telia (here in Sweden) it seems for example, because the way they handle mobile data. They use the same net for calls and surfing. I had the same problem with my Galaxy S3, with the same provider.
As usual, there is some truth to this. If you are in Sprint, this phone uses their Sprint spark technology on lte (as do all new Sprint phones now). Unfortunately, this means that while in a call, you cannot use mobile data. Wi-Fi still works fine.
But this is not the phone, but is rather a feature of the provider...in this case Sprint.
This sounds pretty damn stupid and incompetent on Sprint's part. This used to be an issue with some carriers in the CDMA/TDMA days because yes, the voice and data channels were the same and limited per device. But this hasn't been an issue for years with most carriers. LTE is an all-IP network; it is the same process as the Internet. So has Sprint limited the number of ports a phone can open to traffic? Or are they implementing throttling that chokes your data when a call is in progress?

[Q] Simultaneous Voice and Data without VoLTE?

Does the Verizon Note 4 allow simultaneous voice and data like the S5 and, basically, all prior android devices on Verizon? Or is it like the Droid Turbo / 2014 Moto X where it won't be doing voice/data at the same time until it receives the VoLTE update?

Voice and data at the same time have been available since Verizon brought out 4g LTE service. If you're in a LTE service area (most of the country with Verizon).... Then voice goes over the old CDMA network and data is on lte. And you can use both at the same time.
VoLTE is different, and is being rolled out to devices.

Only on Android devices (most, not all), and only because they built a "dual" antenna/radio setup on the snapdragon chipsets. But for whatever reason on the new X and Turbo, they went away from that. So the only way to have that function again is with the somewhat unreliable VoLTE.
Thanks for confirming the Note 4 still can...

The iPhone 6 do have volte but you have to enable it. The downside is that your voice quality could be impacted if your data connection sucked. Didn't sound like a feature that turns on/off automatically with all the warning messages it gave me.

It's due to the antenna setup.
In order for voice and data to function simultaneously on Verizon without VoLTE, there has to be two separate antennas - one for CDMA and one for LTE. Some of Verizon's recent devices (such as the Note Edge and Droid Turbo) only have one shared antenna, meaning that only CDMA or LTE can run, not both. It's certainly frustrating for many users, and while Verizon's reasoning for this makes some sense, it's still not great at this time for those who use the feature. With the network moving toward LTE-only with VoLTE, Verizon's reasoning is in part based on this - why include additional hardware at additional cost and space (a second antenna) to run voice and data simultaneously when the same feature can be achieved with one antenna and VoLTE? Of course, VoLTE isn't completely ready for prime time, and they're still working out issues, so for many it's not a true replacement at this point. But that's a big reason why some of Verizon's recent phones can't do simultaneous voice and data without VoLTE - Verizon is trying to pave the way for VoLTE adoption.
Which NEW phones support Voice and Data (WITHOUT) using VoLTE... I have a 2013 Moto X that supports this, and refuse to upgrade until I can find a new device that does support this -- where can I find this data? I would imagine some phone (like a Nexus 5X) might support this since it's not made specifically for Verizon? And before it gets asked, VoLTE is too unreliable for my needs --- when using it on my work iPhone 6S calls drop constantly, so I've had to disable it... but still need voice AND data at once. Any resources / sites listing which devices support this feature would be really helpful.

Can this phone run on Sprint network and do VOICE & DATA Simultaneously?

Can this phone run on Sprint network and do VOICE & DATA Simultaneously? like a Note 3 with dual antenna?
I know for a fact the S7 edge does not.

But since Galaxy S2, Note 2, Note 3 and beyond I've been able to browse the net, and Talk on the phone at the same time, as I needed to look up information while I was on the phone with customer service asking me for account information to verify my Identity, etc, etc...
So I'm pretty sure you can go Online, and Talk on the phone at the same time.

The S7 Edge cannot do data and voice at the same time. say you have waze on and a phone call comes in. now you are talking on the phone and yo want to alert drivers of a policeman...guess what S7 no cant do. The reason why the NOTE 3 can do it its because of the number of antennas it has in it hence the ability to use data and voice at the same time.

Yes and no. SAMSUNG removed the CDMA antenna from the phone (note 3) has one. They knew or should had known that by doing that the phones on sprint network will not be able to do call and data simultaneously . The note 3 has the two antennas and that is why I am able to do that at this very moment on the sprint network. So basically they are selling you a phone with less capabilities than the replacement and they call it an upgrade go figure. They ahould had waited untill the networks catch up. On a second note veriOn supports VOLTE but at an extra cost. So the consumer pays premium for a phone upgrade and then pays again to have the same service as I do now with a note 3. We are really getting upgraded aren't we?

Oh, didn't know that. That must be a bummer for those who want to, but can't use voice and data simultaneously.

Do you know of any recent phone with a cdma antenna like the note 3

Unfortunately all new phones have one antenna which increases battery life but doesn't allow call/internet simultaneously. Sprint will be moving to voLTE once they get their LTE everywhere they can. Most people don't need this capability and there are workarounds using google voice to make calls. It doesn't bother me to not have since i don't usually use minutes. I can always look up whatever I need when I'm free again.

How do you use google voice and ia it effective
How do you use google voice ? And is it effective
Install Hangouts and Hangout Dialer and you are set
That is how I solve the stupid problem Sprint created by combining all in 1 antenna

I have note 5 with Sprint and since I upgraded my phone from Lollipop to Marshmallow and I'm able to do both calling and browsing at the same time when I have 4G(lte) network, but when I have 3G network, I can't do that.

Verizon Compatibility...

Darn, looks like this awesome phone doesn't support Band 13, is there any chance we can get this phone on Verizon's network?

From Razer's website.... Wish you luck though and curious to what you find out.
What mobile networks will the Razer Phone work with?
The Razer phone will work with GSM networks, like AT&T, T-Mobile, and their subsidiaries. It will NOT work on CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint.

You get it yet? Any luck???
I am on a Grandfather Verizon plan, and I can swap my sim. I get 4G data, but no Cellular. But if you dont want calls to disturb you, this is perfect.
Cheers

Same here. Data and text work, but no voice. It's weird because the phone rings and then doesn't connect.

I will tell you. The answer is no. I'm in Korea KT is CDMA. The data side works, UMTS B1 & LTE B1 B2 & B8 but the voice calls do not work. In phone drops even LTE if/when I attempt to make a call. Calls over Wifi isn't an option either since my carrier doesn't support it. Over here everyone uses VOIP anyways. Im not bothered by the lack of calling I rarely even use my 'phone' anyways. Plus I'm hoping to get back to the states soon and I will be back on AT&T.

I purchased the Razer phone and am using Verizon with it. There is a work around that their tier 2 tech team can do. They add your line just on their LTE(GSM) network ( No band 13 CDMA is utilized). So if you are in an area that has good to great LTE signal then you can get the phone. Mine works great at work and outdoors. My only issue is at home. I always had one bar with all my other phones and now I have no service. I am waiting for a Samsung 4g LTE extender from Verizon so that I can correct that issue.
Rumor has it, Verizon will make the shift to just LTE by the end of 2018. If and when this happens, CDMA band and cellphones will no longer work with their network.
Hope I helped anyone who has the phone or wants to buy it. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.
Ok I got mine working on LTE as well but there's no phone capabilities. Sure u can send text and surf the internet but u can't make phone calls.

You can. Verizon needs to configure it on their end. I made calls all day today.

How did u talk to tier 2? cause most reps don't know their head from a hole in the ground
And if that's the case any LTE phone should work on their Network right?

I used Verizon's live chat initially. Reason for this is I was able to save the conversation and use it as a reference when I had to call back and got another rep. Also, good way for the tier 2 tech team to catch up. It took some time and persistence to get it right. Once the chat rep exhausts all their troubleshoots, they will escalate it to tier 2. A threat about me leaving and going elsewhere was used on one occasion.
It did take time and patience but I think the phone is worth the trouble. My Razer works just as well as my GS 7 edge. Just a reminder. It is on LTE only, so if you hit an area without LTE you will not function.

I did my own questioning with this and simply stuck my SIM card from my Google phone into my Razer and for while it worked but I noticed it didn't stick.
So I called Verizon and they told me that because my sim card was registered to my Google phone I would need to go and get a new sim and stock it into the Razer and it would then work on LTE and would stick

I am going to say no and you should try live chat again. I had ported out when I first got this phone back around Thanksgiving and I couldn't stand it and wanted back in to Verizon. When I came back in, they activated a new sim using a pixel 2, popped it in my phone and did some configs on their end. You do not need a new sim if your current sim is on a phone that has LTE service with same OS and on Verizon already.
What do u have ur settings set to because where I was verison couldn't get it working
