Heya,
I recently got a Touch HD and love it! However, im finding it difficult to find the applications i want and although i have seen the wiki lists for the suitable applications, im sure more could be done to help this.
So what I wanted to ask was is there any way an app market type software could be made that would include all/most the software out that there (like android, iphone etc...)
I dont mean a big package with all the software, i just mean a source of info and compatibility and clicking a link will start the download.
Is this possible? Cos if so, this would make the Touch HD even more amazing!
Cheers guys for any feedback.
Anyone got any ideas? Is there not anyone out there that can create/develop such a piece of software?
look out for the Microsoft Mobile Marketplace that's coming with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5
The above, plus you can use the PDM app to download programs (but it's not generic for Blacksotne).
maybe someone can collate all the programs and their links and a description of what it does and if it works. this could be an msi package too?
just surf this forum and that's all
Answer!!
Thank you for your help, however, trawling thru this forum is a long process just to find certain pieces of software.
But, I have found an answer to my own question, if anyone is interested.
A piece of software is in development called "Gecko". Look at
http://www.getgecko.org/
Beta testing has been done and expected date was april, so its delayed but it seems promising for those of us that wont have windows 7 and its application market. (unless sum1 creates a rom of it!)
Yup, Gecko is here for that. Stuff is indeed getting delayed and I'm being pretty quiet about it, but it's still under development.
It's damn sad Microsoft hasn't already cooked this for us!
Why would you keep quiet about it? it sounds like such a gr8 project! I cant wait.
any chance of getting a release date for gecko. please??
No release date set, but I'm starting to look for ways to efficiently share the source code. I won't make it out alone with all the stuff going on right now (positive stuff, of course!)
Hi all,
I created this thread to collect informations, suggestions and links for who want to start learning developing android applications, whitout being an expert developer.
I like programming (vb6, vb.net ) but I don't know anything about android and linux, and just a little about java... Now I bought an Hero and I met android world... I downladed Eclipse IDE, Android SDK and I starded with dev guide on SDK... I just take a look to helloandorid application... it works! and now? In the xml layout seems easy to add View like buttons or text... but how can I handle to the user actions like the button click? in vb is simple to manage the buttonpressed event...!
If someone knows some simple guides about java, eclipse and android, please let links on this thread!
Thank you!
This one's awesome for learning how to create widgets:
http://nm-blog.sanid.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/android_howto-hellowidget.pdf
here are some other resources you could easily find by using google search:
http://www.helloandroid.com/tutorials
http://nexsoftware.net/wp/2009/07/29/tutorial-creating-a-custom-analogclock-widget/
http://www.anddev.org/index.php
Other than that, just start from the simplest Hello World -examples on Google's own Android site.
I'm going to start leurning Android programming
If ill find nice links i will post them here. Is there btw a way to program inside visual studio? Cuz all tutorials on the net are using eclipse.
You'll need to use Eclipse to my knowledge as its all Java based. The other alternatives are the IntelliJ plugin and doing it all from Command line/Text Editor.
Back to the Topic, I'm just trying my hand at a little Android development this week too, the tutorials and manuals at developer.android.com have been great!
Another thing, while I remember, if you've done any sort of .NET/ASP.NET development before you should find it a breeze, apart from the lack of Visual Studio (best IDE that ever was), they're VERY similar compared to some other languages/technologies I've used.
HeY Furios, Im new to android dev also, so if you don't mind, I would like to follow you and share any info I find with you and to whom ever else would like any info...Thanx
SDK 2.1
Hi Guys,
I went onto the SE developer site and got he x10 SDK, but it only gives me the choice for a 1.6 virtual Machine. Is there another place that I have to go to get the SDK for 2.1?
Thanks.
It would be cool to learn how to develop roms as well...or is that much deeper?
Well guy's start here on this thread first >>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298
Made me think
need minor help!
im actually developing a few games, but im running into some seemingly basic issues, that i seem i cannot get to work. basically a button mash game, single/multi player, well on multi player i cannot for my life get the multi player functions to work, as in in the end the game already knows who the winner is based on an integer score, then it is supposed to use an sqlite database to take the highest scored player such as P1 or P2 and allow them to input there name to be permanently displayed. it cannot seem to differentiate using IF statements, but the feature does work with single player flawlessly, i may link source code if asked, TY
hey guys, i don't know a thing about programming, but i have a question. instead of trying to put android on the device and going through all that trouble, is it at all possible to integrate an on screen keyboard onto the device ?
Thats what I need. Im getting sick of sliding my phone open. I want a landscape qwerty keyboard (android style) and same as for portrait mode. thats the only downfall this phone needs!
no, it's not possible as we A) cannot access the kinOS code, and B) know virtually nothing about how the kinOS works. android is several times more feasible.
so then is it probable that there could be an onscreen android keyboard integrated with the android os ?

your acting as if putting a keyboard on this device will let it do everything everybody wants...and anyways, if we cant even take of a file from the device, how will be even begin to integrate a keyboard that will work with this odd OS? Please read forums to figure out what is possible

This.
Till now we are not able to fetch a file from the device without using Zune (which is cool looking software to me, but tooooooooooooooooooooo complex for the task) in windows or the macspace app on Macs.
Furthermore, if you try to make a lame hijacking test, renaming a mp3 to image or the opposite (like "image.mp3"), the Zune software detects it, before you sync, so outta luck.
Heya guys.
Having a issue with my "A-Jays One +" and its remote control makes me freak out.
Totally satisfied with JellyBean(ARHD 17.0) and all that it offers except this thingy with the remote.
A-Jays says its a Jellybean issue but from what i've read somewhere else(don't recall where) its a Sense issue.
The software downloadable for "remoting" don't work with Sense &/or JellyBean.
Its especially frustration for me now that i bought it just for the use of the remote now that my phone is burried almost when im at work(to not mess my phone up.
Coming from the ARHD forum i see alot of skilled people making mods and enhancements for the phone and my question if anyone would be so kind to check what the issue might be and if its fixable by removing/add something to the code or if could be as easy as an app downloadable somewhere that i missed.
I dont know what signals the remote sends but i cant do anything with the volume. LongPress starts a Google thingy or calls LastCall.
Any information would mean alot to me.( if its a serious one from someone that knows his "stuff" )
Thanks alot for any help

I'm called for a job interview this Monday. They need someone to port some programs children play with on the web to Android. It's educational software that looks accessible to children.
My only experience with porting is working with Unity and going back and forth from PC to my Android phones. My problem is I don't know how porting is done exactly.
Let's say I want to port a Java program to Android. Do I have to create a layer of coding around the original Java source code and make it work with Android? Or is it just modifying the original source code to fit the new platform?
I searched multiple forums and countless google searches. I'm going insane. Please help me!
Thank you!
Well I guess it depends. Unless you are using a cross-platform framework (e.g. Xamarin), then it would involve re-writing the code in Java.
If you already have some Java back end code (e.g. some servlet implementation), then I would just create an interface to this module and leave it as it is. No point in rewriting working code in a language that already runs on Android (unless your one of these people who can't help themselves and has to refactor everything to death).
i dont think there is much for u to do, if the games are web based, just build a laucher that links to the games, otherwise look for similar games in android version and install them as a package on all phones.
