I own a galaxy note 4, and I want to know if it's possible to boot it from the micro-sd card slot. Then I would be able to load custom ROMs.
You have to either have a developer version note 4 or a rooted system (which retail doesn't have available yet) and use safestrap (which is probably not compatible with note 4).
Thanks. How can I tell if my note 4 is developer or not? It's the verizon one, but it has the same model number as the developer. I tried going into recovery mode to see if my bootloader was unlocked, but, nothing about the bootloader showed there.

It was a gift so I'm not sure. Let me ask.
If it helps: it came with verizon's bloatware, 32gb, black.
It came with a sim card that wasn't activated (verizon), so we had to activate it online. I don't know if any of this helps :/
DEs come with all bloatware, only difference is unlocked bootloader. Most have "Developer Device" stamped on ID tag under battery and on box under cover sleave ...a few did not.

I obviously realize that as of right now, there's no root for the Verizon Galaxy Note 4, retail version (SM-N910V).
However, there are other countries' versions that have root. Are any of these, Verizon? I realize that we have the SM-N910V. But, what is the SM-N9108V? I'm looking at the list of models which Chainfire's exploit would work for, here. Is the Chinese version on Verizon (hence the "V" in the model #SM-N9108V)? Is IT locked, as well? If so, how is it able to get root and we (on the retail SM-N910V) cannot?
That said, if the SM-N9108V is much like our retail SM-N910V in that respect, locked bootloader and now rooted...would Chainfire's exploit for the SM-N9108V work for the SM-N910V if we just somehow modified our GPS location (through an app like Fake GPS)?

Question: What's the difference in the two models? Anyone know? Do BOTH have locked bootloaders? I'm a bit of a n00b, so I'm guessing a locked bootloader on the SM-N910V is the whole hold up on the root situation, yes/no? Just wondering if the SM-N9108V is the same in that respect. I don't know if the "V" on BOTH models indicates Verizon or not and/or if they're both locked.
EDIT: Did a little bit of research. The SM-N9108V is a SIM-FREE variant. Don't know what all that entails or if that might help somehow (i.e. First using Fake GPS to say you're in China, removing your SIM Card, then running the SM-N9108V exploit???). Just a thought.
CF-AUTOROOT works by temp flashing a custom recovery, flashing root and then reflashes the stock recovery for the model listed. This procedure takes an unlocked bootloader. .......

GPS location would never matter in any exploit for root or bootloaders ever anywhere ever. How would your location on the planet somehow change the hardware and software of a handset? Honestly you thought the phyical location of a phone determins if it has a bootloader that automatically switches to be able to be unlocked? Amazing.

Has anyone actually gone in to a Verizon store and had a developer edition activated ? I know you can just put your Sim card in and be ok. I just want to make sure it's covered on insurance. And yes I know it will be a retail version. I was trying the Netflix offer and it said unknown or invalid IMEI.

After several pages of reading i need to ask this:
I have a n910v that is a CDMA phone and i need to use it in a GSM network. For this i found that there is a way to reach that trough a "script". In order to run that i need to set the "signature verificatio" off. (I'm ok with that, i trust the script developer), but for doing that i need a custom recovery (right?) and to have a custom recovery instaled i need to rooot the phone (as far as i understand), so: since there is no root for this sm-n910v there is also no custom recovery?
Thanks!

For a custom recovery you need a unlocked bootloader witch the retail Note 4 dose not have. Root can be achieved without a bootloader unlock but a unlock allows the custom recovery without having root thus making it much easier to root.

Not sure why you need to do anything of the sort? I am using 2 Verizon note 4's here in Ireland on GSM my wife and I. I did find when I received them they would not work with a GSM sim or connect to a GSM Network here in Ireland. So I went on ebay and bought a Verizon sim card, dummy/dead/unactivated what ever for 5 dollars poped it in to both phones, they said activating phone then activation failed. But guess what GSM sim card worked after that....its a strange one.
By the way it needs to be a 4G Verizon sim card. I tried another Verizon Sim and it didn't work.
Hope this helps

Well, i'm in Argentina, to have a Verizon SIM card here is going to take about 4/5 weeks, but is good to know, thanks.
Btw, ur Note 4 was also a CDMA phone?
Yes it is a cdma. Took about 2 weeks for me to get Sim. Make sure it's a 4G one you buy. It's well worth the wait. Best of luck.

For a custom recovery yes,for a carrier unlock no. These are two entirely different unlocks. As gersrt said you need a different sim card. The phone should already be carrier unlocked.
So I just bought a Verizon Pixel XL off ebay with the intention of using it on T-Mobile because I was under the impression that taking it to T-Mobile was no issue and would be no different than using a google store one on T-Mobile. Although I am reading some concerning threads about the bootloader issue. If this phone happens to have 7.11 will I be unable to flash the T-Mobile factory image onto it? Or is there really no benefit in doing this anyway? Do I and will I be able to flash at least the T-Mobile radio over to it?
Then if it is before 7.11 and I unlock the bootloader right away can I keep it unlocked even if I play around with images and stuff such as trying out the O beta? or do I have to avoid Factory images once its unlocked and only use custom roms?
Thanks in advanced!

Only thing that matters is if the origin of the phone is Verizon or Google.
If the origin is Google you can install the Google factory image and use it on anywhere, unlock the bootloader, root and have a grand old time.
If the origin is Verizon you are relegated to the Verizon image regardless of where you use the phone, no flashing for you.
Compare the build code of your phone to the build codes on google factory image website and you will know what you have.
good luck

Verizon model is fine for what the phone is.
You shouldn't have any issues using it on T-Mobile USA . Verizon phones are sim unlocked . The only thing with the Verizon version is that if it had the update where they don't let the bootloader unlock then you can't unlock it and root. Besides that you can use it on TMobile as a regular Google phone.

This is partially false, I'm using a Verizon pixel XL on TMO and when I dropped out of beta, Google rolled out the TMO branch to my phone.
If you can depixl8 it and unlock the bootloader, you can flash custom Roms or the factory images to your heart's desire with no issues. Just never relock the bootloader, since it won't be able to be unlocked again(if it truly is a Verizon pixel XL)

You can sideload updates to a locked device so OP could sideload a current ota from tmobile. It can in fact beneficial to run the tmobile software on tmo because of optimizations for network connectivity
If you haven't updated it yet and its version is older than last November, you should be able to unlock the bootloader. Once it's been updated to a newer version, it can't be unlocked.

I have not I will this evening or tomorrow though. I was just under the impression that all Verizon Editions had that switch disabled no matter what SIM card went it. As I stated before this was a display model, I got it for next to nothing due to very minor screen burn from the demo mode, I can barely see it so i'm good with what I paid. So I wonder if display models weren't Verizon models? Or maybe this was a third party Verizon store and not corporate. Either way is there anyway to tell which one it is? The SKU on the back is G-2PW2100-021-B and it has build number N2G47E on it, which is not the verizon build I don't think.

Google points to that being a Verizon SKU. But with the build number being non-Verizon, you might be able to unlock it.

I literally just did this 2 months ago. Got a pixel xl and it was a verizon phone but I have Tmobile. The phone can be unlocked, it can be rooted, it can be rommed, yes it can! Mine came with 711 or 712 cant remember but whatever doesnt matter. Just follow the guide in the other thread by @Homeboy76, it's a GREAT read and tutorial. It will put you from stock nougat to stock pie, but afterwards you can go to nougat, oreo, or pie. I know because after I did it, i went to an custom rom, then to a custom oreo rom, back to stock pie, back to custom pie lol. I would put a link up to the thread but idk how to do hyperlinks lmao, i skipped that day of school.
Anyone have it? Anyone have any idea if it's the same version as Verizon? It's my understanding it's just the unlocked version. Open to flash any of the Qualcomm builds. But it runs Verizons network. Really just looking for any info anyone has on it.
Another thread about it got closed, but this is being posted in Q&A so this should not be closed.

i am working on trying to figure out which firmware can be flashed. and you need a unlock code for the sim lock
The Xfinity Mobile Samsung Note 8 (SM-N950U) is basically the same as the verizon branded phone. This means the bootloader is locked and will likely never be unlocked. This means you won't be able to install TWRP or load any of those custom roms
---------- Post added at 06:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:32 PM ----------
You should be able to root it using the SamFail method but unfortunately there are restrictions
For example Magisk not working and it will fail safety net check.
Anyone with Xfinity Mobile who might be curious about doing this, I have successfully obtained root using SAMFAIL method... Follow his instructions exactly as written! When the device restarts after the second part of this tutorial you might end up with a blue screen that restarts the phone and flashes blue over and over, what I did next was I downloaded this firmware http://updato.com/firmware-archive-s...3AFA163EE8F90B and flashed the Home CSC file alone using the normal version of Odin 3.12.7 that is included in his post (with the Comsy version that was used in the first two parts). My phone came with original firmware so just a heads up. After flashing Home CSC, phone booted normally and SuperSU worked. Make sure you give everyone in that post credit for the amazing work with bringing us an option for root in such a short amount of time! Using xfinity note 8 with oreo full version want too downgrade back too nougate.
Hello everyone first thank you for reading and commenting on my post.
I have a xfinity mobile devicè that originally came with nougate 7.1.1 and I flashed it by sd card flash. I have a few bugs like 1. Security notification that keeps popping up all the time.
2. When watching you tube after a while the app get stuck and usually just have too restart and then works fine till the next time.
3. I cant send messages with pictures or videos thru stock messaging app from samsung. I can send text thru samsung message app. So I downloaded the Verizon message app and it works fine using that app because xfinity uses Verizon for carrier service LTE.
I am wondering first what is the exact correct firmware for xfinity mobile on note 8.?? Where can I get it from?
( I know the original firmware had a "j" in it) for nougate 7.1.1
If I cant fue the bugs on oreo 8.0 full version "please tell me how? Then...Next thing is I have oreo 8.0 with samsung experience 9.0 can I and how do I downgrade back to nougate correctly but I tryed and was unsuccessful. I tryed downloading a firmware off the internet and storing it and renaming it on sd card so I can flash it while in dfu mode. But it didnt work.
So bottom line is if I can just fix those bugs and stay on full version oreo 8.0 then please tell me how?
Otherwise please tell me how and where I can achieve downloading the exact firmware build for my phone and the samsung experience 8.0.? I need too know if its possible and where too get everything from and instructions how? Thank you all my XDA friends

Xfinity Boot Screen After Unlock
I have a Xfinity Note 8. I paid to have it unlocked so I could sell it easier. I have flashed many S8, S8+ but no Note 8 or Xfinity. Typically after an unlock, with a new SIM it would carrier flash after reboot. This one does not. I used my sons Verizon SIM no problem but it still had the Xfinity splash screen and apps. Could I resolve this through flashing with oden? I’m afraid to try since this is the first Xfinity phone I’ve come across. Any help or tips is appreciated!

You would have to reflash the Note 8 with the carrier unlocked firmware. The one you would buy from Samsung where there would be no carrier branding you would get the firmware from XDA Developers and they would provide guys in tutorials and how to flash the non carrier-branded firmware to the Note 8

Using Samfirm, what region would I enter? OR, If I download from SamMobile, should I just use the USA version. I see mine SM-N950USQ3BRA6 listed as (Unknown).
I would like the phone to carrier flash with each SIM so they buyer won't be intimidated. With the other phones if done this with, usually other S8, S8+, I haven't had to do it but twice for AT&T S8's. For some reason those in particular will sometimes not recognize the SIM even after unlocking and flashing through SamFirm and Oden has done the trick. I'm sort of a newb. I used to flash ROMS years ago but recently find myself buying and selling for profit. Thanks for your help!!
I'll try later and post my results.
