After several pages of reading i need to ask this:
I have a n910v that is a CDMA phone and i need to use it in a GSM network. For this i found that there is a way to reach that trough a "script". In order to run that i need to set the "signature verificatio" off. (I'm ok with that, i trust the script developer), but for doing that i need a custom recovery (right?) and to have a custom recovery instaled i need to rooot the phone (as far as i understand), so: since there is no root for this sm-n910v there is also no custom recovery?
Thanks!

For a custom recovery you need a unlocked bootloader witch the retail Note 4 dose not have. Root can be achieved without a bootloader unlock but a unlock allows the custom recovery without having root thus making it much easier to root.

Not sure why you need to do anything of the sort? I am using 2 Verizon note 4's here in Ireland on GSM my wife and I. I did find when I received them they would not work with a GSM sim or connect to a GSM Network here in Ireland. So I went on ebay and bought a Verizon sim card, dummy/dead/unactivated what ever for 5 dollars poped it in to both phones, they said activating phone then activation failed. But guess what GSM sim card worked after that....its a strange one.
By the way it needs to be a 4G Verizon sim card. I tried another Verizon Sim and it didn't work.
Hope this helps

Well, i'm in Argentina, to have a Verizon SIM card here is going to take about 4/5 weeks, but is good to know, thanks.
Btw, ur Note 4 was also a CDMA phone?
Yes it is a cdma. Took about 2 weeks for me to get Sim. Make sure it's a 4G one you buy. It's well worth the wait. Best of luck.

For a custom recovery yes,for a carrier unlock no. These are two entirely different unlocks. As gersrt said you need a different sim card. The phone should already be carrier unlocked.

I bought the T889 on release to unlock and use on straight talk, with the straight talk AT&T micro sim. (I'm not cutting down a straight talk T-mobile sim) I rooted my phone using these steps. (galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method/) ((I'm too new to post links)) The phone rooted like a charm. I tried a sim unlock app that needed root to use, but apparently the app only works with certain chipsets. Contacted support for the sim unlock app and they told me I'd have to pay a service to unlock the phone for me. T-mobile only gives you the unlock if you've been a customer for over 60 days. Playing with the CWM I was able to unroot the phone. I am unable to figure out how to get rid of CWM to have the phone get OTA updates. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Mr. or Mrs. moderator, I apologize if i put this in the wrong place, I'm new to the forum scene.
This is interesting.
Does this mean I can take my note 2 and unlock it, then give it to my cousin on at&t and she can use Lte?

my understanding is that the t-mobile version was made with LTE locked, but I'm clearly not an expert. I've read that the phone includes the radio to pick up LTE bands, but that you would have to do something to unlock the feature. However, the phone should work exactly the same as it would on T-mobile, with no other changes, aside from unlocking the sim.

It does have a radio for the LTE bands. It is locked upon purchase. I am not certain, but perharps using the USSD codes to get into radio choices may be simple enough... but I am by no means an expert. Try *#*#4636#*#* to change cellular radios

You can flash Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root. It installs SuperSU and stock recovery. Then you can just use the Superuser app to unroot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33390392&postcount=1
Everything I've read implies it would take a serious firmware update to enable LTE, so I don't think I'd count on a solution soon. That sure would be cool though.

If you are S-OFF (not rooted but S-OFF) then your phone is problably sim unlocked. Take into consideration that not all sim unlocked devices work with all carrier sims. Some carriers lock their sims so they can not work with unlocked devices.
If you used the Hack Kit to root your device, then you are simunlocked. Check it this way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD

I just tried another one after purchasing an unlocking code and the SIM works. How retarded of me. So is it just some SIM cards that wont work or is it generally all sim cards from a specific carrier?

Seems that GIFFGAFF locks the sims...so you probably will have to ask them for a new one.
Yes.
Yes it can be unlocked but not free. You have to get your unlock code provided by your network service provider, for that you have to pay a little bucks. To get the unlock code you can go to Unlock-Zone.com and select your country and network to which your phone is locked. And get your unlock code through mail.If you try with free codes there are many possibilities for your phone to be hard locked.
I was given the unlock code and it still says request to unlock network unsuccessful, it's eligible to be unlocked...
All help would be greatly appreciated.
Should I try flashing over back to this stock rom and then see: http://server10.stockroms.net/download/GalaxyNote2/SGH-I317/I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_ATT.zip
I hate being stuck in a rut like this, already had my account transfered to a T-Mobile microsim. This is driving me nuts...
The person I bought this phone from said they updated but then when I checked it was still at 4.1.2 and said something about update interrupted...
Or which of these should I use: http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=71
Flashing a Rom won't unlocknyour phone..... Also what do you mean your still on 4.1.2?? That is the latest Rom for the phone. ... Where are you obtaining your unlock code from? The only time att provides it themselves is over the phone. You sure your not getting the wrong code?

Yes I got the code from AT&T over the phone, called them twice and got the same code 1-800-331-0500 they gave me 41907314... According to this: http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-tutorials/how-to-unlock-sim-for-free-on-gsm-galaxy-note-2/ if ya take the newest update, ya can't sim unlock the phone cause it takes out the “NW Lock NV Data Initiallize” (Step #9) according to YouTube user comments...
THIS IS WHY I'm wondering what Stock firmware I need to downgrade back to in order to get that option again and be able to sim unlock my phone.
So I'm wondering if it's I317UCALJ2 or I317UCALK7 that re-enables that option for me. Right now I'm on I317UCAMA4...

This http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-tutorials/how-to-unlock-sim-for-free-on-gsm-galaxy-note-2/ is the tute I believe, gotta remember it's been 2 months since I did this, so I'm not quite 100% certain. LoL
I'll be having to do it all over again too, by the end of this week possibly, since some jerk decided to steal my note 2 I had to go to ebay and win a new one.
I don't think it'd matter during the Odin flash with a AT&T sim card or T-Mobile one in it, I can't remember if I did it with or without a sim card, but to be on the safe side I'd do it without a T-Mobile sim card in it, just for that first successful boot... Then do the 4.1.1 unlock code method, take the back and battery off then pop in the T-Mobile sim card(Or whatever other non-AT&T carrier sim card) and see if it done it correctly...

I bought an AT&T live demo note 2 that was used in an AT&T store. I used this method from youtube, popped in my niece's T-Mobile microsd and dialed 611. T-Mobile's customer service rang and answered showing it worked. You need 4.1.1 to use this method though. I'm going get me a microsim today since my vibrant doesn't use the micro.

The above is not true - if your phone has upgraded firmware, you will NOT see the item "NW LOCK NV RAM...." in your "NETWORK LOCK" "PHONE CONTROL" menu.
So, the ONLY two solutions are:
1) keep bugging ATT to create a case for you and investigate
2) downgrade to 4.1.1 modem (NEED TO READ/UNDERSTAND HOW TO FLASH etc.)
then apply the Samsung service menu "fix" as shown in the above video...*
*Then, you could upgrade to newer ROM... if you wish....:cyclops:
**I'm an amateur at posting threads **
First I tried to SIM unlock by paying but none of those codes were working, after I rooted my phone, followed some threads and tutorials but none of them worked.

If you are trying tutorials for other phones, they won't work; and you should stop doing that.
The only "mod" or "hack" (free) method to unlock the SIM on the M8 required s-off. And it no longer works on Lollipop.
Paid unlock services are probably your best bet. What pay sites did you try? I've seen cellunlocker.net recommended by various XDA members, but I've never used it myself (and can't personally vouch for the service). And those recommendations were on the One X (EVITA) so I'm not sure how well they can unlock the M8.

Go to AT&T's website, and fill out the form to get the unlock SIM code. I don't even think you need to be an ATT customer to do this. Although sometimes, folks have had problems with the device's IMEI not being found in the database.
I think a law was passed within the last couple years, that US carriers need to allow customers to SIM unlock their phones.

So nothing, there is no proof that it was locked anyway. I know my stuff just like redpoint. My previous comment stays.
Who says it you haven't gotten a refurbished one, maybe it was factory unlocked already. Even new phones are shipped with s-off already !
I (we) have seen so many carrier locked threads here that i can tell you that s-off does not give you carrier unlock features. There is more needed and the tutorial that was active doesn't work anymore ! I'm long enough around here to say that with a 200%......
Have you even been reading up on this topic, did you have a read here about what's needed to achieve sim unlock ?

I agree to this; and also to the notion that the device was probably just SIM unlocked to begin with.
I have a "carrier-locked" ATT note 10 (SM-N975UZKEATT) that I would like to use on Tmobile.
1) Is the only thing required to get the phone working with Tmobile a carrier flash? Do you really no longer need to unlock the device (carrier unlock)?
2) any guides that show this process from att to tmobile?
Thanks

Adding a little more to this:
1.) As an option (if preferred) you can most likely just keep the firmware installed on the phone and use it as it is. Tmobile is rather friendly with BYOD compared to AT&T. The phone will reconfigure some settings based on the settings that the Tmobile SIM card will have on it. Once unlocked just put the Tmobile sim card in and that should be all it takes. You may need to double check the APN settings though to make sure they are complete and accurate.
2.) Just look/search/research and you will find the multitude of discussions and tutorials on this. The process is the same as on the S9+. You won't have any problems finding out how to do this.
