If you are S-OFF (not rooted but S-OFF) then your phone is problably sim unlocked. Take into consideration that not all sim unlocked devices work with all carrier sims. Some carriers lock their sims so they can not work with unlocked devices.
If you used the Hack Kit to root your device, then you are simunlocked. Check it this way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD

I used the Ace hack tool kit which rooted and S-OFF'd my device. Tried a Giffgaff sim and it never worked.

I just tried another one after purchasing an unlocking code and the SIM works. How retarded of me. So is it just some SIM cards that wont work or is it generally all sim cards from a specific carrier?

Seems that GIFFGAFF locks the sims...so you probably will have to ask them for a new one.
Yes.
Yes it can be unlocked but not free. You have to get your unlock code provided by your network service provider, for that you have to pay a little bucks. To get the unlock code you can go to Unlock-Zone.com and select your country and network to which your phone is locked. And get your unlock code through mail.If you try with free codes there are many possibilities for your phone to be hard locked.

How does creating a goldcard affect sim lock? It doesnt on other HTC devices. Just interested as someone asked me to look into the wildfire S Sim lock.

It doesn't, goldcards only allow you to flash a ROM with a different CID than your phone. To remove SIM lock you need to either buy a code based on your IMEI, or factory unlock with the XTC Clip.
I removed the SIM Lock on a T-Mobile Wildfire S hoping to use it on O2 in UK this worked in that I can get past the SIM Lock prompt but the phone seems to also have some kind of carrier lock which prevents it registering on any other network than T-Mobile.
Tried debranding and downgrading without success. Just waiting for the XTC clip to come now so I can get rid of my X10 Mini Pro and start using my new phone properly
If you buy the phone from somewhere like carphone warehouse, you get a factory unlocked phone and they just give you the sim card.

Hi!!
There are only two ways.
You may buy an unlock code for your Wildfire S. It costs about 12€.
Or you may buy an XTC Clip. It costs about 40 € plus shipping fee, and with that you may unlock and S-OFF as many as HTC devices (see list of devices supported) as you want.
Bye!!
I am using CodefireX rom.
I wonder if the guide provided is capable to do sim unlock?

If you downgrade to 2.2 you will regret it. If you are s-off Then you Sim unlocked. That doesn't mean that every Sim works with your device. Some carriers lock Sims...

I have a rooted Inspire 4G (rooted with Ach Hack kit). I recently purchased a T-mobile sim (0.99 cents) and put it in my phone and it worked. So I am thinking that when you root the phone with Ace Hack kit, it automatically removes carrier sim lock too. I don't find any other explanation for T-mobile Sim working on my mobile as I never unlocked my phone.

i tried the sim unlock in the easy radio for dhd and even though the files were successfully pushed but i think my phone is still locked to carrier.
is ur unlocked phone still showing carrier brand when booting?
can u use the phone without sim card inserted?
Apart from checking if your phone is S-off, which my is. Is there another way to check to ensure phone is unlocked?

Hi all, I recently bought a new htc one m8 on vodafone ireland. I'm on a different provider so i bought an unlock code on line and it didn't work i got (incorrect password). I haven't registered the phone on any network as of yet (its brand new). My question is, Do i need to activate the phone on vodafone first, Then put in a working foreign sim to unlock with code i received from online provider?
Generally speaking, no, you don't. If it came from them, then it's already locked to them by default. You just need to enter the proper unlock code with the new sim. Another option to consider is that pretty much all M8s can be made s-off now(albeit for a small fee for the app that does it). Once you're s-off, you can just sim unlock it yourself without the need to purchase any codes. That's what I did. The instructions are here in the forums.

Thanks, Thats what i thought. The provider i bought the unlock code from told me to activate the phone on vodafone, Then put in a foreign active sim and it should work. But i put the code in incorrect 4 times, twice cause i thought i put it in incorrect and another 2 times to record it(take pictures to get a refund for wrong code). Do you know how many times you can enter the incorrect code before blocking the phone?
To be honest, I'm not really sure...I want to say about 5-10 depending on your device, but again, I'm not really sure.

If you go with SunShine to S-Off you don't need to unlock using HTCDev, as the latest version of SunShine performs the unlock as well as the S-Off without HTC knowing and without loosing APPs in /data such as calculator and flashlight.

Any solution?

If you are trying tutorials for other phones, they won't work; and you should stop doing that.
The only "mod" or "hack" (free) method to unlock the SIM on the M8 required s-off. And it no longer works on Lollipop.
Paid unlock services are probably your best bet. What pay sites did you try? I've seen cellunlocker.net recommended by various XDA members, but I've never used it myself (and can't personally vouch for the service). And those recommendations were on the One X (EVITA) so I'm not sure how well they can unlock the M8.

I'd suggest another service, possibly a few. They can be a bit hit or miss with getting a working code on some of these devices.

Go to AT&T's website, and fill out the form to get the unlock SIM code. I don't even think you need to be an ATT customer to do this. Although sometimes, folks have had problems with the device's IMEI not being found in the database.
I think a law was passed within the last couple years, that US carriers need to allow customers to SIM unlock their phones.

This worked (SuperCID gave SIM unlock) early on when the phone released, but hasn't been the case for quite a while now.
You can try S-OFF.
1: Unlock yoru bootloader with htcdev
2: Flash twrp and SuperSU
3: Install SunShine S-OFF apk ( from: theroot.ninja )
4: And your phone is Sim Unlocked
5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235 use this to back 100% stock EU
6: Use One_M8_All-In-One_Kit_v and click Command: Return to S-ON
Your phone is 100% Stock, you have a waranty and your phone is Sim unlocked.

Did you try other carrier SIMs before you were superCID? It may have worked then as well. It seems there is a good chance that you bought an unlocked phone.

So nothing, there is no proof that it was locked anyway. I know my stuff just like redpoint. My previous comment stays.
Who says it you haven't gotten a refurbished one, maybe it was factory unlocked already. Even new phones are shipped with s-off already !
I (we) have seen so many carrier locked threads here that i can tell you that s-off does not give you carrier unlock features. There is more needed and the tutorial that was active doesn't work anymore ! I'm long enough around here to say that with a 200%......
Have you even been reading up on this topic, did you have a read here about what's needed to achieve sim unlock ?

I agree to this; and also to the notion that the device was probably just SIM unlocked to begin with.
After several pages of reading i need to ask this:
I have a n910v that is a CDMA phone and i need to use it in a GSM network. For this i found that there is a way to reach that trough a "script". In order to run that i need to set the "signature verificatio" off. (I'm ok with that, i trust the script developer), but for doing that i need a custom recovery (right?) and to have a custom recovery instaled i need to rooot the phone (as far as i understand), so: since there is no root for this sm-n910v there is also no custom recovery?
Thanks!

For a custom recovery you need a unlocked bootloader witch the retail Note 4 dose not have. Root can be achieved without a bootloader unlock but a unlock allows the custom recovery without having root thus making it much easier to root.

Not sure why you need to do anything of the sort? I am using 2 Verizon note 4's here in Ireland on GSM my wife and I. I did find when I received them they would not work with a GSM sim or connect to a GSM Network here in Ireland. So I went on ebay and bought a Verizon sim card, dummy/dead/unactivated what ever for 5 dollars poped it in to both phones, they said activating phone then activation failed. But guess what GSM sim card worked after that....its a strange one.
By the way it needs to be a 4G Verizon sim card. I tried another Verizon Sim and it didn't work.
Hope this helps

Well, i'm in Argentina, to have a Verizon SIM card here is going to take about 4/5 weeks, but is good to know, thanks.
Btw, ur Note 4 was also a CDMA phone?
Yes it is a cdma. Took about 2 weeks for me to get Sim. Make sure it's a 4G one you buy. It's well worth the wait. Best of luck.

For a custom recovery yes,for a carrier unlock no. These are two entirely different unlocks. As gersrt said you need a different sim card. The phone should already be carrier unlocked.
