USB connection to Windows 8 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I am not being able to connect my Note3 to a Windows 8 PC using the USB MTP mode...
The PC is fully updated 8.1, and on the same PC it connects normally if I use windows 7. So its not a USB cable, port or ROM issue. Tried using updated samsung usb driver and Kies.
The phone shows it to be connected, not on the computer. The device manage shows it like this.

Strangely, it connects if I use the Camera (PTP) mode, but with that I can use the pictures only. I have tried many suggestions here and there, but no luck.

Well, the first problem here is Windows 8....
Try dialing *#0808# and switching through the USB modes that way.

Did try that already, no luck...
Now again I tried it on a windows 10 preview, and looks like it works there. Only windows 8 is somehow the problem.

Really? I was kidding about Windows 8 being the problem lol. Although somehow, I'm not surprised. I can't stand Windows 8. Glad you got it sorted, though.

I also cannot get my phone to connect to windows for file transfer....
On my Note 4 from Verizon, when I dial *#0808#, it actually dials and there's a phone ringing on the other end.
What should happen?

Wtf? Lol I'm pretty sure it shouldn't actually ring anywhere...Must be a Verizon thing? Maybe? Does anyone ever pick up on the other end?

Windows Vista not recognising my WM6 device

Bit of strange issue with my Hermes. I've just plugged it in, and now I'm getting error messages that an unknown USB device is connected to Vista. The problem is that it's been working fine for over a week now and then it goes and does this. Does anyone have any idea as to how I could try and fix this?
One thing you can try is to remove the CHECK MARK in START > Settings > Connections > USB to PC and UNCHECK Enable advanced network function.
Got the same error twice now, nothing a restart (PC) didn't fix.
or replace USB cable, or use shorten cable, or conect cable not to front USB, but in to the back connectors, bellow keyboard and mouse connectors -

Wow! You have smooth hands.
Seriously... I have had the same issue and all I had to do was restart Vista. You could also kill the wmdc.exe task and that seemed to work for me as well...
All works now; thanks guys.

This was the winning candidate.
You get this often after a flash. I either plug the USB into another port as it tries to install the drivers again or reset the pc.
I tried that but had no joy. It was a bit strange, but at least I've got it sorted now.

Prefer to load media onto your Windows Phone 7 device the old fashioned way? Then it looks like your solution is just a simple Windows registry hack away. Coming shortly after the USB tethering hack, the folks at Mobile Tech World have now discovered that you can effectively turn your Windows Phone into a USB drive by modifying just three entries in the registry of your Windows desktop PC. Once done, you'll be able to drag and drop files to your heart's content -- albeit only on a computer that's had the registry hack done, of course. Hit up the source link below for the complete details.

Excellent news.
But what does the file structure look like? Does this break out of the isolated storage restrictions in any way?
I.e. can you create files in a general area accessible by multiple apps?
I'm thinking no, but we are now only one step away from Windows Phone 7 firmware becoming an actual operating system.

[Q] File Transfer over Bluetooth

Ok, I've searched for about 3 days now and I can't find anything that answers my question.
My G2 is rooted and I'm running CM 6.1 RC2 and I would like to be able to pair AND connect to my Windows 7 laptop via bluetooth for file transfers.
I have the "Bluetooth File Transfer" app installed, but it will not connect to my laptop. It tries, but says that my laptop does not have the OBEX and/or OPP transfer protocol active. I've looked for answers on that and I can't find anything.
The phone does connect to other bluetooth devices without a problem (my car stereo for example). And my laptop connects to other devices without a problem (my mouse for example). There has to be a way to introduce these two crazy cats to each other - I know they will form a happy and fruitful relationship once they meet.
Thanks in advance.

Clear all caches clear bluetooth up/download clear all that out reboot do not connect to anything else before u try ur laptop. You need to make your laptop discoverable in the bt settings its kind of hidden. Do one of two things..... 1. First set up a personal area network between the phone and the laptop. Once that's "paired but not connected" initiate a file transfer of a small file txt or even one picture FROM the laptop to the phone. You need to pay attention to the pairing code and try to simultaneously accept on phone then laptop or laptop then phone until it pairs and initiate the transfer from laptop to phone. The thing is Windows is a beast that likes to protect itself and your phone is quite promiscious so youu have to kind of appease Windows rather than your anything goes phone. I forgot what number two is..
It also depends on UAC settings in Win7.
If that doesn't work... I suggest trying a dedicated app like PDAnet bluetooth tethering because it will find your phone. Just to connect not to tether. (As a test)
But the bottom line is you have history of connecting to other devices so you gotta clear all that memory out on both laptop and phone. Reboot both devices start fresh.
If not then maybe someone has other ideas to help. Nice bump btw.

Easier way to mount usb?

when you access the phone via "phone" (winderz) its painfully slow, locks up the phone while you are transfering stuff, and limits you in what you can do.
This is my first android phone (had too many to count) where it didn't ask if I wanted to mount usb storage device. Instead I have to go settings-->wireless and network-->usb utilities-->press button-->plug in cable-->press next button on screen with android guy.
There has got to be an easier way???
Touch usb notification, it will give you the option to mount.
If usb debugging is not checked then it should automatically mount for u. If usb debugging is checked then use the notification panel to mount.
The Evo3D Killer!!!
Debugging not checked. Usb notification is "mtb connected" touching it does nothing.
This is stock rom

Mine also exhibits this behavior.
"If usb debugging is not checked then it should automatically mount for u. If usb debugging is checked then use the notification panel to mount."
Just plug it in and you can access whatever you need.

You guys aren't understanding. If it doesn't show up as a drive on your computer then you are limited as to what you can do with it AND in my case when I copy, paste, delete or do ANYTHING to the phone memory the phone locks me out and says its syncing or something. It becomes a paperweight until whatever I did is finished, and in the case of transfering 15gigs of music this is unacceptable. Especially at the speeds this runs when not mounted.
On the 5 or so other android phones I've had I got this screen as soon as I plugged into any computer

On this phone I have to do the following to see that screen:
settings-->wireless and network-->usb utilities-->press button-->plug in cable
Enable USB debugging then and use the notification bar to do that.

Permanently grant Bluetooth access to messages

My phone keeps asking me every time Bluetooth connects to my car if I would like to grant access to messages. Why is this not being remembered? How can I make this happen?

Try resetting BT in the car and phone and pair afresh. When it pairs, normally a dialogue box will appear on the phone asking to which apps access should be given. Enable messages and whatever else you need.

Thanks for the response. I've done this. I factory reset the phone (for other reasons) and repaired. No change.
Strange that message access isn't listed in the settings. When I select my car in my phone's Bluetooth settings:

Reg. the screen shot, did you try to scroll down and see if messages was there?
EDIT : for me message access comes after contact sharing. Since my dpi is 420, it is shown within the box without scrolling.
