When I use the samsung cord through USB on my PC it charges VERY slowly. Is this normal? I find the only way to get a fast charge is through the standard usb cord and adapter connected to the wall. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Yes. PC USB port gives out less power then a wall outlet. The reasons you can charge phones with a pc is that phones have smaller battery's and do not need a lot of power to charge meanwhile, tablets have a bigger battery in which means that tablets use more power because of its components and screen. That's why tablets need more power to charge fast. You can charge the tablet on a pc but it would be really slow vs a wall outlet

Ok great thanks for the reply. Just wasnt sure if something was wrong with my battery.
BUT - If you use a powered USB Hub on your PC that is 2 amps or better it may charge as fast as the wall unit????

Anyone else notice that our Nitro is rather fickle about the power source it receives?
If my battery is completely drained, it MUST be plugged into a higher power source than USB (so far a wall charger that ouputs 750ma works) until it gets an initial charge (usually needs at least a couple of %)...Then it will accept charging from USB (USB provides 500ma).
I can tell when it's in this "state" because it remains dead if I plug it into USB and then if I plug it into a wall charger the touch buttons at the bottom flash for a few times and then the LG logo pops up and finally a charging battery icon comes on. Considering this sequence, this seems like a functionality of the phone. I wonder if this is common, my Nexus One certainly didn't have a higher-initial charge rate requirement when the battery was dead.
I've experienceed the same scenario.

I only have chargers that operate 1.8amps and higher.
As the battery is an issue the higher the amps the faster it will charge

Well I did notice that if it was on usb...and I had bluetooth...gps, and wifi...plus running some apps and stuff...the battery actually continued to drain I think they have the usb thing as a safety measure...for some reason...I think it's odd...but meh
try a usb cable that has 2 jacks plugs to connect to tyhe computer. These cables are often supplied with external hard drives as they they require more power than can be supplied by just one usb connection.
I was also having the problem of my p-930 discharging while plugged into compute usb jack - even when screen off nad only in charge mode. I have since bought a dual plugged usb cable and it charges now. Although I haven't tried it from a completely discharged state.
my spectrum is the same way.. i can charge it with usb.. but it takes about 15-20 minutes to get enough charge to turn on

This! I only charge with a wall adapter now. I had a hard time charging it until someone here recommended this to me.
My phone is nokia X1-01 basic phone
It comes with AC-3 charger
I live in a home and office where power plugs are very rare to find but lot of usb ports. Those days i use smart phones they are easily chargeable as they had micro usb. Can i buy the below cable to charge my phone? I know it is compatible with my phone but my worries are will it reduce the life time of phone or battery? I don't worry when i charge my older phones because they had micro usb that as every one know always same voltage and amp.

I have three phones with microusb
I have three phones with microsub, and i charge all with diferents microsub cable, sometimes with the microsube of my digital camera. My phones are lg,sony, and one chinnesse phone. I don't see problems with the microusb and don't feel something strange in the life time of the battery.
Don't worry about battery life. Perhaps it will charge a little bit slower than with a real power adapter, but there's most likely no difference at all.

cable should be find. The only time I had a problem was using the wrong charging module which crapped my battery to only charging half way
Hi Guys,
I'm just wondering if my unit is defective or it's really the case for Galaxy Note 8's. My tablet charges just fine when using the wall charger, but when I connect it to my PC, it won't charge at all. I've tried different cables that I use for my phone and other gadgets, but none of them will work.
Is there a way for me to make it charge via USB?

Mine also says not charging when its plugged to the PC, its because the USB ports supposedly don't give enought current to charge the tablet, but i once left it connected overnight while transfering my MP3 collection and in the morning the tablet was 100% charged, so i think even if it says is not charging, it charges but ultra slow, even slower than a cell phone.
USB ports on a PC does not put out enough voltage to charge the tab. Like said above, if it does, it will take forever. Look on the back of your wall charger. It should say 10v. USB ports typically put out only 5v. If you look on the back of a phone charger, it should be 5v.

It's not the volts, it's the amps. Your charger provides 2A. A typical USB port provides 0.5A. But in any case, you'll not be able to charge this device from a computer USB port. It's not a fault in the device.
That explains it then. Thanks guys
Hmmm... I alway charge my note 8.0 thru my pc usb.
It charges on my pc and lap top.
If you want to be sure just let is sit for an hour and see if the % went up.
Doesnt charge fast but charges in an evening from 60 to 100%
Perhaps it doesn't charge while the screen is on, because the power drain exceeds the charge rate? There would be no way to see it change to "charging" because the screen must be off for that to happen... Just some speculation

I have a HP Envy M6 laptop that I use to charge my Note 8. It only charges on the port closest to the battery. The only USB 2.0 port out of 3 other USB 3.0 ports which is odd because they say USB 3.0 ports give out more power.
I have tried charging it with another HP laptop that has the same USB setup but it doesnt charge in any one of the ports, 2.0 or 3.0.
I guess it just depends on the PC you're charging it with.
Can charge.
hi,
We can charge note 8, if the note is switched off and connected to a PCvia USB
Normally Note 8.0 can not charge with pc usb port or car usb port because AC current of them too low only 0.5A (minimum AC current of charging require should be 1A)
Samsung Tablet stock charger is 2.1A (Note 8.0 device allows 1.8A)
Will it charge faster?
Does it do harm?
What do you mean by fast charger? also what tablet -
On my tab pro 8.4 when hooked to the stock 2A charger it will charge close to 2A (1870mA) , I haven't tried hooking it up to anything higher but I suspect its limited by the circuitry.
But generally charging at faster rates will shorten the life of the battery as it causes more heat and the battery can wear out faster, you should generally stick the the charging adapter provided with the device for best results.
I did it once. Is that bad?

Since the internal electricity limits the current, it doesn't do harm when the current exceeds the limit.

As long as the charger matches the tablet / phone voltage then it should be ok, so plugging in a 5V 3A charger won't hurt it in the short term.
Sometimes the cable matters too (depending on the charger), if the wall charger doesn't support fast charging natively (using internal shorted data pins), then the data pins in a usb cable might need to be shorted to tell the phone to charge using AC mode, this is known as a "charging cable" and will only work with that function (once modified you can't use it for data transfers), you can also purchase charging cables, Though nearly all modern wall chargers now short the pins for you so you don't need the special cable.
On Samsung devices you can see if its charging under AC or USB mode by going to Settings -> General -> Battery and see if it says Charging (AC) or Charging (USB).,
USB is limited to 500 mA , or perhaps 900 mA on usb 3.0 (might need kernel support, and usb 3.0), AC mode should draw as much power as the internal circuitry or the charger can allow .
Hi, i need a spare charging cable and was wondering where to get a good one from.. UK.. preferable not the usb c to usb c you get with the phone i want usb c to normal usb so it works with my power banks etc.
you may see a slower charge speed but but then that is likely with most power banks as Samsung picked an awkward collection of requirements to use full fast charging, but really any USB3 lead should work for a power bank as chances are the powerbank can't output the full charging speed for the phone anyway. I would just recommend using the stock stuff in the house.
Thanks
Im using my old Note 9 charging cable, with a fast charging power bank by Samsung... and with a multi usb port extension. I don't want to keep plugging it into the wall, i use it a lot often while it's charging
