[Q] Android 4.4.2 for HTC desire 816 dual SIM - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am a newbie and started experimenting with my HTC Desire 816 Dual Sim just recently. After struggling for many days yesterday I successfully installed CyanogenMod 12 for Desire 816 but now i want to get back to the company installed android. I don't have the back up of it. Is there any source from where I could down load and install it?

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I followed the method given in the link that you provided but when in recovery i select restore and then the file it says directory can not be opened and in the next line says file could not be found. I then tried to install from zip but it says installation aborted.
Please advice how i can get back to my HTC desire stock rom.

If ur phone… .a5dug…....it should work do this now… extract the Zip file that u download…. It will form a New folder inside the new folder there Clockworkmod file and CWM-recovery-en….. Hi, I tried this but in recovery the screen went blank. Then i used the method given in the following site (http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-flash-a-custom-recovery-like-CWM-or-TWRP-on-Android_id53914) for flashing recovery (downloaded the file from there and used it as recovery) and then used the " Clockworkmod" downloaded from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/general/stock-rom-backup-htc-desire-816-dual-sim-t2906516). I successfully entered the recovery and then i went to restore and the result was
All md5 checksums verified
Erasing boot before restore
Restoring boot image
Restoring system
Restoring data
.android_secure.img not found, skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure
Restoring cache
Restore complete
I rebooted the device and it successfully rebooted. However, the touch screen is not working. The screen is also locked as well. However, the hard buttons are working. I connected my phone with the laptop and HTC Manager sync it and i restored previous setting as well. However, it is only the touch screen that is not working.
Please if you could advise what to do?

Micromax A45 ROOTED!! (MTK 6573)

So, this is it! MICROMAX A45 has been rooted!!
Things you would be needing:
1. SP flash tool -> ver 2.1 preffered (google it)
2. Download and extract my attatched .rar file.
3. Unlockroot (get it from www.unlockroot.com).
4. MTK drivers (download the attatchment from this xda post)
5. ADB drivers (No need to worry about, unlockroot will automatically setup the adb driver while rooting)
Ok so let's move on to the steps:
1. This rar file contains my modified boot.img & the A45 scatter file (needed by SP Tools, tells the SP tools which rom addresses to flash).
2. Install the MTK drivers, just run the InstallDriver.exe program inside the MTK folder).
3. Most of you might be experienced with flashing through SP Tools, for those who are using it for the first time read this excellent guide on how to use it -> MTK Flashing Using SP Tools
4. After flashing, reboot your handset by taking out and reinserting the battery.
5. When the phone boots up go to Settings->Applications->Development and tick mark "Enable Debugging".
6. Now attach your phone using the data cable.
7. Open Unlockroot program through windows start menu.
8. Click the big green root button.
9. It will ask for installing drivers, click "yes"...it's now installing the ADB drivers.
10. Finally it will root your phone and will ask you for rebooting the phone, click yes.
11. Let your A45 reboot.
Finally after booting, check the app drawer for an application "Superuser"...Congratulations!! your A45 is successfully rooted!!!...:highfive:
Credits:
Me!
Sahil Deep, gave me a link to an original boot.img of A45
Caution: You can softbrick your device if you play around much on "GOD MODE" (Superuser mode), know what you are doing and accept the consequences if you make your device unusable (although highly rare)..
ANY QUESTIONS?? DONT HESITATE TO ASK ME!! POST IT TO THE FORUM, NO PM!
&..hey press the 'thanks' button if u think i deserve it..
EDIT: I HAVE ALSO ATTATCHED THE ORIGINAL BOOT.IMG OF THE A45 FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO USE THE STOCK BOOT.IMG!

New around here (xda-dev and Android hacking), so please be gentle if I ask a stupid question. Have read may recommendations that before flashing a new ROM, one should backup their current ROM and user-data, so that one can recover one's phone if it were to be bricked for some reason. However, looks like to be able to do that, you need to Root the device first. And this seems to be a vicious circle.
Wondering if some way of backing up original ROM exists, without needing to Root, and how did Sahil Deep / Indidevers manage to get the original boot.img !!
BTW, I am probably too sleep-deprived, because I cannot seem to find the "Thank" button !! Will definitely click it once I've had a chance to try out your method and succeeded. Until then (and until I find the darn button), please accept my gratitude.

I had earlier posted about a problem i had with clockworkmod on Micromax a45, and i'm really happy to say I have solved it! i edited the recovery.img file and replaced the cwm-kernel with the a45 stock recovery kernel and voila! it works perfectly! I have attached the custom recovery img which can be flashed using the SPF Tool. BTW, can anyone suggest any good custom ROMs for micromax a45? Thank you.

Thanks mate.
I don't understand step #5. What does it mean "copy the boot.img in the folder that you prefer"?
1- Go into Recover (CWM) and Mount USB
2- Now From your PC create a folder in the root of the storage and call it "clockworkmod"
3- In the "clockworkmod" folder create another folder named "backup"
4- Extract the .zip file in that folder (do not change the name of the folder extracted cause it could give md5sum problems)(also the folder name must not have any space between words)
5- Before continuing on the phone, open that folder from the pc and copy the boot.img in the folder that you prefer
6- Reboot phone into Fastboot mode and flash the boot.img by typing
Code:
fastboot flash boot path/to/boot.img
7- Reboot the phone into Recovery again
8- Go to Backup & Restore> restore> and here choose the folder previously extracted, and that's it

That means to copy it in a folder from which you will perform step 6. To make your life easier, I usually copy it in the same folder where I keep fastboot and adb files.
In that case you should only type:
fastboot flash boot boot.img

Which nandroid you have?
4.1.1?
If so, then yes, repeat the procedure once again with your bakup to return to Jelly Bean.
One more thing, make sure that the nandroid you download is named with date and time (something like "2013-01-28.08.49.48"), otherwise you will face md5 issue. There is a solution for that, too, but I don't know if you would do it.

In particular check this explanation:
What if i get MD5 Mismatch?

It looks alright. You have your cache, data, and system partitions in it.
And, I was right - you will get MD5 mismatch, for sure! So, you will have to follow the instruction that I indicated before.
If it doesn't work, or you are having problems, keep your current boot.img handy, and give it a try. You can always revert to your previous state.

Less possibility for error.
You can place both boot.img files to this folder, only name them in a way you can recognize them in future (boot_my.img and boot_old.img, for example).
I would also check if nandroid.md5 is the same as the one in parent folder. But, anyhow, you will have to adjust your md5, I'm sure of it.

Foreground
A Chaina re-branned phone
A fastboot mode
A useless recovery mode
A locked boot.img (thats why even chmod or simply pushing a su will not root the phone)
A IMEI number(which if you mess up after flashing, you will not get any radio signals)
1)First Unlock the Boot IMG
Before you proceed I will strongly recommend to download the tutorial guide ppt that you will find in Recent Activity list at the top of this post
You need to tamper permission after extracting the boot.img for this.No worry guys i have already done that for you .Just download the below file
Unsecured Boot Image
Now a bit critical part, read carefully .This unlocked image needed to be flashed to your device. For that you need research download and firmware pac file.
Download this to files from the below links
PAC versions & Tools Download
(pac file,driver,research download all included)
Download this drivers and install, after successfull installtion you will have(under device manager)
1.ABD interface
2.two COM ports
3.two emulators
If any of this having yellow sign it will not work.
Open research download
click on first button and load pac file
click on second button change baudrate to 115200,in calibration tab uncheck all.
For BOOT_IMG option browse and select the unlockedboot.img that you downloaded now.
plugin the usb cable(DON'T plugin the phone now)
click on play button
PRESS & HOLD VOLUME UP KEY and insert the usb cable, don't release the key.
Download should starts within 3 secs.If it doesn't then check the drivers carefully or reply to this thread with failures.
Once done unplug your phone and remove battery for 3 second
Reinsert battery and restart your phone.
YES!! you have successfully unlocked the boot.img
2)WiseMen Backup!!
First thing you should do before any tweaking and twisting save your back!!.Install CMW using the below method straight away and save your back.
1.Download .andriod.zip,extract it and save it under C:\Users\<computer name>\<paste it here>
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ga5tk2h89m41ddk/.android.zip
2.From your phone got to application-->developer option-->enable usb debugging
3.Now plugin your phone through micro usb cable.
4.Download this zip ,extract and place in under c:/<paste it here>
http://www.mediafire.com/download/s2as5grqceqtqq3/Android_Multi_tool.zip
5.Open a command prompt type
Code:
cd C:\Android Multi tool
C:\Android Multi tool>fastboot devices
20080823 fastboot
Note:you will NOT be able to proceed further if this doesnt shows up.Double check the andriod.zip has adb_usb.ini file.
Now we will flash a custom recovery image in fastboot mode.
Code:
C:\Android Multi tool>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (10240 KB)...
OKAY [ 10.487s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 3.425s]
finished. total time: 13.918s
7.Reboot your phone.
8.Now got to CMW using Volume up + power button and do a backup.
3)Push superuser zip & ROOT!!!
This the easiest step among all of them.Download the below file, put it under sdcard and flash it through CMW.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/t55b6ebzvx9yf1f/update.zip
THAT'S IT you are rooted!!!
REMEMBER,PROBABILITY OF BRICKING IS MINIMUM AS I HAVE ALREADY DONE ALL THE TEST FOR YOU GUYS !!!.STILL IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG DONT PANIC,JUST FLASH A FIRMWARE AS MENTIONED ABOVE(point 1) EVENIF YOUR PHONE IS
TOTALLY DEAD .

You should not flash anything before you have unlocked the boot.img.It comes with a locked boot so flashing through fastboot may not work.
First thing that you should do now is stage up a windows xp with the drivers that i have linked here.connect your phone with research download and do a firmware flash. This will recovery your phone to its orginal state. Then follow my steps from the start(pls dont skip)

Dont get me wrong but i think it is better to log your errors here as it might help others as well as me to correct the OP.
Once you have the setup use exact set of drivers and pac file that i linked in this thread.remember if you have a successful driver installation then you will have at least(under device manager)
2 new COM ports
2 emulators
I am working on capturing few snapshots or a demonstration guide,it will take time as i recently lost my bag-pack,will update with videos once i stage up.

check all files in main page, but for boot_img browse a select the unlocked boot.img that i have linked in this thread. The idea is to flash the unlocked boot.img instead of stock boot.img. Uncheck all in calibration page.Keep baudrate 115200
Also download the ppt that i just added. It may help you. Don't give up,setting the drivers will take trails & errors but i guarantee you the success

Current firmware version should be 19.3.A.0.470
Flashtool with updated fastboot and flashmode drivers
50% Battery and a Safe backup (In case of error)

step 10 problem SOLVED
Figured it out! thnx to @ kentexcitebot
I went through C:\Users\name\.flashTool\firmwares and deleted the "prepared" folder under the folder "firmwares".
That fixed the problem, apparently.
Now device is about to boot.. waiting for boot complete

yes... my bad.. you need to update steps.. as someone else might get same problem.
root access worked properly. :good:
now my problem is xposed installer.. how to install?
tried flashing zip, but device won't boot.
Xposed is not not available for our device yet...Wait until it fixed for our device. .. You can delete all xposed files to get rid on bootloop.
Solution
1. Flash recovery kernel from #1 post
2. Get rid on Xposed bootloop HERE manually : no flash required
I am not being harsh
I am just letting know what is happening, sorry if I sound harsh
already uninstalled xposed.
ok, so finally I manage to get it working,
1st performed clean installation of 5.0.2 ftf
then followed steps 1 to 9
then deleted the "prepared" folder under the folder "firmwares", (If existed).
then followed step 10 & 11.
started device & updated everything.
I got proper root access & everything is working fine :good:
Thank you :good:
Only problem is, cant boot in Recovery now, after everything is done successfully.
Hw u managed to work xposed on our phne its nt possible as it is not working anymore @rrd84

Currently I am on 3.2.7 , not rooted and boot loader is locked. All factory setting
these are the steps
check and make sure USB debugging is on
connect the device to PC
adb reboot recovery
device goes to recovery , select language and select install from adb on my phone
checking to make sure device is recognized and authorized
adb devices

I know I am in a correct folder as I already a did a <dir> and verified update.zip is in the current folder but lets try this
adb sideload C:\adb\Update.zip
loading: 'Update.zip'
* cannot read 'Update.zip' *
:crying:
at this point I am sure there is something wrong with the zip file. so I delete it and download the 3.2.6 just to test it out and I was able to downgrade to 3.2.6 with adb sildeload. once installation was complete I tried again to download 3.5.3 and sideload it but still getting a cannot read <filename> error.
any idea what I am missing here ?
By the way , I have tried several options such as :
1- changing the location of the file from adb folder to other location
2- renaming the file
3- launching cmd prompt as an administrator and navigating to the file location
Hello,
I have a strong feeling that you are trying to flash a wrong zip file. Can you mention the size of file that you mentioned as "update.zip"?

Then why are you giving command of update.zip? You should write the name of file in the command.
Replace "update.zip" in your command to the name of file as it is.

As I mentioned in my post I have already tried that this was my last attempt as many folks out here saying that "renaming" the file helped them

Can you post a screenshot of your command prompt and folder that contains zip file?

sure , here it is
I had this issue when I tried to download the first time. The zip is corrupted. I downloaded the file again and update your adb and fastboot version. I am sure it should work fine.

I also suspect the issue could be due to renaming the filename manually into update.zip and when the extension is hidden, it becomes update.zip.zip. please crosscheck to be double sure.
Reboot your computer after you download the file.
I know it sounds weird but I have to do it every time I download the community builds and I've no idea why...otherwise they give the same error. Don't rename the file either there's no need.

There could be renaming issue. Try re-downloading file and let me know if you have resolved the issue..
Renaming the file is only for the sake of convenience. Or else you may end up giving a wrong file name by typing error when giving the sideload command as the file names are usually too long.
In this case the file should have been corrupt (not fully downloaded).
Try opening the .zip file.
If it is corrupted, the CRC will fail and it won't open.
In which case you know you have a bad download.

Hi , I did try to reinstall the adb drivers , but I will give it a shot again. Also as far as renaming the file the file in the above screen shot is originally downloaded from OnePlus's website without renaming. >dir command shows the file extension to be correct ending with .zip not zip.zip ..
anyways I will reinstall the adb drivers again today

by the way may I get the link to "adb and fastboot version" which you are referring to ? just wanted to make sure I am on the right track
What version of adb are you using?
Your screen print shows 944,128 bytes whereas mine shows 1,479,680 bytes for adb.exe
eg output from the command "adb version"
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.36
Revision 8f855a3d9b35-android
Looks like you are on:
>adb version
Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.32
Revision eac51f2bb6a8-android
