HELP! Cannot get freegee to work! - LG Optimus G Pro

So I installed the 10K tot file and then used towel root to root the phone. Rootchecker says the phone is rooted but then every time I open freegee. it goes to the play store and starts busybox which I install but the freegee says cannot install file. What's going on here? Please help!

Did you install the busybox app or install busybox itself? because the app is just an installer...you have to open that app and use it to install busybox.

Yeah I installed busybox and when I run freegee I get a cannot download file error. Frustrated at this point now. Is towel root the issue here? Thanks!

Every time I start "from scratch" (which is a lot), I come from stock JB, towelroot, install supersu, busybox, then freegee. Works every time, so I'm confused...10k *is* stock JB right?

I always have to install Sphinx G Pro recovery before Freegee works for me: go here and do things.
(I always start out at a fresh v20g Kitkat though, so maybe I've forgot the correct protocol for Jellybeano.)
If you still can't get Freegee to work, or need a method that works offline, no internet required, I could send you over a ZIP with a batch file and stuff that'll do everything Sphinx and G Pro does, only manually (for e980 usage only), with no internet required.

Tried everything including the sphinx recovery method you suggested but still no dice. Freegee is kicking me in the nuts over and over again. So please go ahead and send me that zip file with some instructions and I'll greatly appreciate it and make a donation too. Thanks!

This covers it, though I see the TWRP I included has been updated. Whatever, this should do ya, and from there you can update. This is for a fresh Kitkat v20g install on an E980 (anything else I don't even remember).
I'd test on Jellybean, but I just sold my e980. Booyah.

G pro recovery, no reboot, then freegee flash twrp. Only thing that got it to work for me

KDZ back to your jb release, root it, freegee it, get into your recovery, install the 4.4 release, install supersu zip, boot into 4.4, freegee it and you're done.
At this point, this is your only option. I was stuck here and no root methods seemed to work on this release.

Telus SGH-I747M 4.4.2 KK Root Help

I have searched the forums for my device, and other people's posts trying to find a way to root my device. Towelroot did not work for me. I read that i could install Philz touch recovery and root with that, but i cannot find the version of that for my phone. If somebody could point me in the direction of a method to root my phone, i would very much appreciate it

You could download GooManager (or Flashify) off the Play Store, install custom recovery (TWRP) and root. It will install the one for your phone automatically.
You need root to use GooManager.
Im curious, what happened with Towelroot? I cant see any reason it wouldnt work. Can you tell me the steps you used?

I downloaded the towelroot apk, installed it and clicked "make it rain" and the app said i should have root. I downloaded root checker and it says i do not have root access.
After running Towelroot You have to install SuperSU from the Play Store, then open the app and let it update the binary and disable Knox.
If SuperSU hangs, reboot and it'll work on the second try.

I had tried CF-Auto-Root before towelroot, and it seems to have either partially installed SuperSU, or SuperSU just doesn't like my phone. It shows up in my app list as "eu.chainfire.supersu.MainActi" and force closes when i try to open it. I cannot uninstall it. (i should have mentioned this in my OP maybe)
Oh ok. That makes more sense to me for why Towelroot didn't work then. Probably the easiest fix would be to reflash the firmware with Odin, then try Towelroot first. Since you dont have root now, its going to make fixing the problem any other way near impossible.......actually, now that I said that, you could flash twrp recovery, then use its file manager to manually delete any traces of the failed root.
Still, I think the firmware flash is an easier and safer option. But its up to you how you want to proceed.

I successfully flashed TWRP, exactly what files should i delete?
Check the cf autoroot thread to be sure, but probably the su binary, install-recovery.sh, daemonsu, etc.

The recovery file manager does not see a lot of the files on my phone. It does see the SuperSU folder, but even if i delete or rename it, it just fixes itself upon reboot. I'm thinking of flashing the 4.4.2 firmware through odin, is a factory reset absolutely necessary to do that?
I flashed the firmware, ran towelroot, installed SuperSU, installed the binary, disabled Knox, and i am now running a rooted device!
Thank you very much DocHoliday77 for all of your help, i greatly appreciate it.
Which firmware did you reflash? Stock 4.4.2??
I cannot find towelroot on the app store. Are there any suggestions on what to do without towelroot

installing recovery

Hello everyone I just had a question about recover, a little while back I had cwm on my phone but then I did a full restore and am on stock rooted kit Kat. The first time I installed the cwm recovery I used freegee, but I've seen people say that it doesn't work on the software I am on which is E98020H, can anyone confirm that it doesn't work and is there another way? Thank you.

Unless I am doing something completely wrong... it is not working for me either. I'm on E98020h and I was not even able to root with kitkat root tool. I wound up using Root Genius to root, and was able to get root access for apps like FreeGee, titanium backup, etc.. However Freegee is littered with errors. Upon opening I get an error message saying there is an "exception thrown waiting for command to finish" and then the next error window says that "your aboot is not supported by loki on software version: E98020h." After that the app seems fine, everything is there, but when I go to flash CWM-6.0.4.7 I get another error message, this time saying "There was an error running action "loki_recovery."
No clue, might just be me, but I have tried some other methods as well (including rooting, using voodoo root protector, update to e98020h, and then try freegee) but still nothing.

Loki hasn't been updated in months. I think we just have to hold tight until they update it to include the new aboot that comes with e98020h. I'm stuck at the same place. No big deal since I have root, but would be nice to get into CWM (safely) and back the phone up.

flash the CWM from this thread. At least allows you the ability to get into CWM and do backups, etc...

Here's what you do to be able to install freegee cwm recovery successfully and also obtain root.
1.) Download towelrrot app from www.towelroot.com (much appreciation to Geohot). One click and you are rooted.
2.) Download busybox from playstore. Install.
3.) Download GPRO cwm 6.0.4.4 recovery apk (look for it on the attached files area of G3 rom v 4.7 on the android section of our phone). Run app and install recovery but don't reboot afterwards.
4.)Run Freegee. It should install freegee cwm or twrp by then.
i tried this sadly freegee still getting hung on a boot error...

You're on stock Kitkat. Use GPRO_recovery.apk, after that update recovery to something newer (TWRP prefered) and voila, you're ready to go.
Or start from stock Jellybean, unlock via Freegee and update recovery. You'll get a better flashing base (smaller chances for hardware wakelocks).
Yeah I finally worked through it last night. Towel root. Gpro recovery. Then installed busy box and flashed latest twrp with flashify and got to flashing my ROMs. Hey BTW which ROM/kernel do you get the best battery life with?

I'm still on KitKat (custom build of PAC-ROM 4.4.4, with my own kernel) and I get pretty good SOT (~5h) and maybe a day-day and a half of one charge. Haven't used Lollipop ROMs much, they are too unstable for my needs (mostly problems with overheating and phone not sleeping properly) and I'm too lazy to sync repos and do a custom build, but CM12.1 with Emmanuel's kernel was OK for me for a long time. Please note, I was using older CM build (01.06.2015) because of the SIM bug which is not patched yet.

[Q] cant update SU binary?

I have a ls980ZVE that was previously updated to ZVE through OTA. I don't know if it was rooted previously or not, so in order to root it i installed stump. but grind button was disabled and it says device is rooted, so i thought i might be rooted already so i installed supersu from playstore and it displays message "There is no SU binarry installed, and superSU can't install it.
now can anyone tell me what do i do? i just want a clean rooted device, but would not mind custom recovery if there would be no problems.
any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

If it were me, i would try downloading the lg flash tool and the back to stock ROM tot files and return it to the original stock and root the phone at that point. You can then install a custom ROM. Sounds like they are blocking root with the zve update. I use the cm 12 lollipop resurrection ROM and I love it
I use rr also, but from zve. I used stump root.
You have to use the "brute force" method with Stump root if you are on ZVE. Haven't done it in a while and don't remember where that option is in Stump root but it is there.

E98020H issues.

I just got this phone today and it came pre installed with 4.4.2 firmware. Now I can root it which is not the issue. the issue is no matter what I use, I cannot install custom roms. freegee does not work, I can use CWM via g pro kitkat but installing anything always results in an error 7.
what are my options considering this?

Which method did you use to root the phone? It's said that stock 4.4.2 can't be rooted correctly. The best thing to do, if you want to go through the trouble, is to flash back to the stock JB, which is v10g if you're using e980. Follow the guide line giving in the posting below, and you will get the best result.

That's why because towel root and freegee doesn't work on stock 4.4.2. I think you have to use universal root and then flash cwm6.0.47 to give you both recovery and unlock the bootloader. Flash back to JB is much better approach .

I did. I am on 4.1.2 and I used kingroot as opposed to towelroot, and used freegee to install 6.0.47. I grabbed CM11 from the website, went to flash it and was hit with an error 7.
Something may be wrong when you flashed back to JB, is it booting normal? You install busybox too right?
