OK I wanting a tough case, something on the lines of the "Otterbox Defender" or "Ballistic Tough Jacket" (open to other suggestions as well, so feel free to suggest some others) but I’m also wanting to match this with some kind of wireless charger, from my current reading the LG one i think model is WCD-100 only has a single coil and so phone has to sit in a perfect place, also with a single coil I’m wondering if the charge will even get through, but i have also read the standard QI ones have a triple coil and do not require phone to be in perfect place for charging, and i'm also wondering if triple coil will be better at getting though the tough case, I have ruled out metal backed tough cases as i presume not current would get through, I need my stand to be in black, White just would not go on my desk.
I am a bit of a newbie here so please bear with me but welcome any and all feedback and suggestions.

There is a user on Google+ that added a wireless charging sticker to the inside of his Zerolemon case. I haven't seen pictures of how he did it, but he says wireless charging and NFC both work.

Otterbox defender case does work with wireless charging atleast on the int. version of the phone.

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the delay in getting back to you but i have been waiting for my Nokia DT-910 to come through (which it did today) and sorry to say it would not work with my phone, I have the UK version of the phone which has wireless built in but when Otterbox was on it would only charge on slow, but when i took the whole case if it done fast charge with no issues, so i'll knock the Nokia on the head and keep looking for another charger that may be suitable.

Well i have been using the Otterbox Defender for a while now and cannot find a single charger that works 100%, best i have found is something called "Tylt Vu" and that only charges in landscape format and has to be 100% spot on inplace to fast scharge so i'm looking at getting a new case that is not so think, would be nice if LG done a list of cases that would work with wireless chargers.

Hi all,
I've been reading a lot of threads about wireless charging and one of the most frequently asked questions is:
"Does this work with my [insert case here]?".

So I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where everybody can check if their cases are compatible before they actually buy the kit.
The 'set-up' I'll use for the testing will be this one; this backcover and this touchstone.
(Please note that I'm not affiliated with any of those products nor sellers. I'm just a guy that's trying to help his fellow S3-owners out before they buy the kit/mod. Those products also were the cheapest ones I could find on eBay as of 27th november.)
I will divide this into 2 sections; the QI wireless charging and the Touchstone wireless charging (mod).
I've ordered a couple of cases to test out and I will report back later. Also, I'll probably give these cases away afterwards anyways.
In the meantime it would be great if people could add cases that are compatible and if they use the QI or the Touchstone wireless charger.
QI wireless charging compatible cases:
-Otterbox Defender
-Otterbox Commuter
-Otterbox Prefix
-Spigen SGP Neo Hybrid
-(some) TPU/Plastic cases
Touchstone wireless charging compatible cases:
.
I've added a section like that on the stickied qi thread as well [last night]. (in my post that is).
Specifically for the Qi ones. Afaik, members who have the otterbox commuter & defender are able to charge w/ the Qi charger.
I have a hybrid tpu/plastic case that also works with the qi kit.

Alright, thanks for your input. Do you want me to delete the QI piece? So there are no double posts and whatnot.
I don't really care. I think it's fine to have a place to double check.
i just manage to put the Touchstone wireless charger from palm into the galaxy s3 battery cover, ordering some case on amazon, will report back.
Since this thread is about Qi & Wireless charging tech.
Why not link to where we can get a battery back with the capability to wireless charge our phones? just a thought.
I've brain stormed ideas including ways to add a wireless charging station to a car/truck but I have yet to get a wireless/Qi battery door to make it even possible to start doing such experiments.
I had heard Samsung announced a wireless charging kit for the S3 but apparently never released it. (hopefully they show it off this week at CES for release alongside the new Extended battery coming this month)
check my 2nd post in the sticked thread for different options. That was all I was able to gather before it got close due to some members who blatantly abused the thread for their personal gains.

Are the Qi backs compatible with the Nokia wireless pads? I read some threads on here that some users are using them but wasn't sure if that was entirely true and if it worked or not.
they work. It's a qi reciever so any transmitter will work. (i have the yijieneng one and tested it out on the nokia pad and the speaker/charger pad combo at the AT&T store and it charges just fine.

Received my cover a while back. Also ordered 2 touchstones and *about* 20 different types of cases from different locations.
Was on holiday and didn't manage to get home yet but tonight I'll try everything out.

Alright, will add this in the OP.
FYI, I bought this backcover and 2 of these touchstones (note: doesn't come with a cable or anything; just the touchstone).
Also, haven't had a chance to try the combo out -yet. See previous reply.
Yeah, they announced it but haven't released anything yet. Frankly, I don't even know if they'll ever release it. Maybe it was just for the hype of it.
After all, they were 'one of the first' that would incorporate this in a device so widely sold.
I have the Zens white backcover with the Zens charging pad. It works but the cover is too thick for use with my case (which i want to keep) + it's white (Black S3).
I was wondering if anyone has experience with dismantling the tech in the zens cover and 'mounting' it in the standard samsung cover. Any feedback is welcome before i rip it apart
I got this touchstone back;
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=170950767865
The magnet is terrible, it can barely stay on the touchstone without a case on it, and let alone with a case.
I have a touchstone on my dash in my car and even when driving slow in a straight line with no case on, the phone won't stay on the touchstone.
This Sucks because I bought sygic gps and was hoping this could replace my windshield mounted deactivated HTC touch pro 2 with igo8 finally.
Has anyone got one with an acceptable strength magnet?

cheapest I've found yet. $17.28 shipped for the receiver, I think $50 for the kit. free shipping. (same pad as every other overseas site, just way cheaper and verisign secure/certificate matches)
Hey all. Recently broke my charger port. Im going over to wireless charging now for my main source of charging. What is the best kit for it? Been looking around for a good kit that isnt too boot leg.
I was thinking about getting this...

I think this is a forbidden topic. There's a Qi charging thread that's stickied and the last post just states that it's not allowed on this site. I think it's stupid to ban Qi wireless charging topics altogether because there's a few bad apples trying to hock their products here.
I just got a Nexus 7 2013 and since it has Qi charging capabilities built in, I decided to buy a charger. I found on the N7 section that the TYLT Vu is the best premium base so I ordered one from Tmo with a 30% discount code that still worked.
Since I was getting into wireless charging for my N7, I decided to look into it for my S3. I bought a cheap chinese knockoff receiver on ebay and while it works, it starts disconnecting/reconnecting after it gets to about 88%-90%. It still charges to 100% but it keeps disconnecting/reconnecting every 10 sec to 1 min with the associated notification beep each time. I turned the notification sounds off while charging until I find a real solution. So where else do I go to find issues with my phone other than XDA. Too bad they banned this topic. You'll have to go elsewhere to find recent and relevant info about current Qi wireless chargers and receivers.
I'd love to resolve this issue as wireless charging is frickin awesome!!!
I have a kit if you are interested..

my suggestion is to get the receiver pad from ebay and look online for the nokia qi charging plate. they go on sale for 25 bucks regularly.
I got one of the earlier Qi kits from one of the chinese manufacturers and while the receiver works really well, I can't say the same for the transmitter...
EDIT: Yes, the other sticky got closed down because despite requests for people to NOT hawk their products, some people ignored the request and in the end screwed everyone else that wanted to keep the thread as an informational source. Some people honestly don't care how many others they screwed over so they can hawk a few sales and blatantly disregard the rules.
I personally use this receiver. It charges perfectly through my lifeproof case.
I use this one:

The sticker creates a slight buldge through the back cover but that never really annoyed me. Charging worked as advertised.
@ackzsel
I think I buy the same... Does it charge if you have a thin TPU case on the phone?

Shouldn't be a problem if it's thin. Charging range is a few centimeters.
Has anybody tested this with a genuine samsung 3000 mah battery ? I would really like to find a suitable one for mine with the 3000 mah kit.

probably wouldn't fit properly. the standard battery with the receiver pad already creates a bulge. the 3000mah battery is even thicker.

I have an S3 that I just converted to wireless charging. I see the same behavior of connecting / disconnecting when fully charged. The display is like a strobe light.
Are you saying that even with the TYLT VU the S3 still had this behavior?

5-8mm is the range for the charger to receiver for most systems. I have a UAG cover on mine and it works on both chargers I have. The 1-2mm the receiver bulged out made my UAG case crack though. Case still works at protecting the phone so I'm not too worried as I'll probably be upgrading soon (S5?).

Yes. If you follow the link from compro01, you'll see the charging base that works with it and it will work as it should. It's compact so it's also good for travelling. I got mine from eBay for $24 shipped. It came in a full retail package with a micro usb cable.
I just bought the compact from a person for $300 that came with everything, including case, magnetic charger, magnetic dock, and screen protector. I have a question, should i use the magnetic charger or should i get a better one? If so, what do you recommend that i should get? I hear rumors that some magnetic chargers can mess up the charging port of the phone and can damage it. I need some opinions. I cant upload the pic but I provide a link of how the charger looks like.

One more thing. Before firts charging install elixir2 and turn it on and in battery section after plug in you will see Info about charging value of voltage and speed on mAh. Compare to stock charger. My first cable was crappy and charged very slowly. Seller replace cable without problem. These values was smaller on bad cable. But second one is good so far. So extra edvice check this firstly.
Peace yo

I know right, My phone usually get charged up to 4 hours....It seems kinda normal, but I just got the Magnector X Charger from Amazon yesterday and damn it is so good, holds the phone well with strong magnet and usually get charged around 2-2.5 hours...the sad part is that It won't fit in my case smh!!!! I have to remove it in order to use the Magnector X Charger....Im referring to the charger only, not the Adaptor , but it still good tho.
So, I have a question..The magnetic charger I bought was a generic one that came in a blue and white box from ebay and it does come off the phone too easily and seems to fall off a lot. It was very inexpensive so I think you may have a better quality one? Does your stay on firml;y? or does it fall off easily?
I may look for the one yopu have.
Another question; Logically I will get the Xperia Z3 Compact Next. does the magnetic charger work on the new Z3 Compact? Anyone?
Thanks!

I really don't know much about the original magnetic charger i got since it comes with the phone that I bought from the gentlemen. It seems strong but not too strong tho, I had to move it a bit around to get it to hold, it does not fall off too easily, i would say average, but I recommend that you go to Amazon and buy the Magnector X Charger (Adaptor or Cable) if money isn't an issue to you. Im telling you that the Magnector X has a very strong magnet than the magnetic charger I been using....You won't regret it! I never own a Xperia Z3 compact since its too expensive but I have a buddy who owns it and i let him used my charger and it fit quite well....every magnetic charger should be compatible to all xperia devices (Z1, Z1c, Z2, Z3, Z3c), I mean come on, they look the same lol. Go for the Magnector X If you want a powerful magnet and if the cost isn't too much for you.
Just purchased the Magnetor X from Amazon for around $14.00. Strange why Ebay does not list it?

They have released Xperia "X Compact". According to past pattern, they might release a new model around October.
Hi guys!
I'm new to XDA (at least as an active user) and this is my first post. As probably most of you I like my Moto 360 not only, but also because it just looks elegant. And so I thought I need an appropriate docking station for it (dock, holder, stand - call it whatever you like) So I made my first "prototype" today and this is what it looks like (pictures attatched).
Right now it is just a modern holder made out of leather, wood and some metal parts.
In the next step I want to include wireless charging (already ordered electronic parts) and see if I can charge my moto 360 on it. What do you guys think? I manly did it because there simply is no other holder than the one from Motorola on the market right now.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
That looks great! What got you thinking to make your own holder?

Thank you!
Well I mean the one from Motorola is also not bad, I like it! But I think this holder matches better to my phone (and its wristband). Also I have a lot of free time recently so I wanted to do something
Pretty cool! I'd been thinking about doing something like that myself, also out of wood and/or leather, because I love both materials.
In any case, it would be really nice if the Moto 360 was completely compatible with all Qi chargers, so that it would be an easy job to gut an existing Qi charger and stuff it into your own enclosure. The only problem is, I've found that the Moto 360 doesn't charge very well using any of the other chargers I've tried. It appears that the stock Motorola dock has some type of overheat protection and can more or less continuously charge the Moto 360 to full. With all the other Qi chargers I've tried, the Moto 360 seems to overheat and stop charging until it cools down. The result is that the watch will tend to stop charging, then continue charging, then stop, then start, and it takes much longer to charge to full. Sometimes, the charging doesn't continue until you take the watch off the charger and let it cool for a bit, even though the watch may show the charging screen.
Your best bet for now is to gut a standard Motorola dock, unless a third-party has managed to make a decent replacement. Good luck!
EDIT: Might be worth checking out this thread to see what Qi chargers would be a good idea to harvest for parts for your project: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-360/accessories/compatible-qi-chargers-t2874675
new charger
Look for "moto 360 charger" on etsy.com
What do you think of this?
The one in the zebrawood? Looks nice, but again, I'd be concerned about the actual charging components, unless they used parts from the Motorola dock.
Yes, the one with Zebra wood (I'm new here so they don't let me post external links yet).
I built this charger. I used a QI modul I found on the internet (not a finished product, just the electronic part) and a nice piece of wood from the wood store. As an adapter I first tried the one that comes with the original charger but that one seemed to be too weak so I used the one my Moto X came with. And I have to say it works pretty good. Since that I haven't had any issues yet. The watch charges in about 90 minutes from 0 to 100%. Yes, it does get warm, but not hot. And I think it also gets warm with the motorola charger.
If you have any other questions, let me know!
And thanks for the link to the other thread, I will post my charger there as well. :good:
My wife prefers a wallet / folio style case for her phones however we're struggling to locate one [preferably stocked in the UK] that really supports wireless charging - I've seen a number on Amazon with conflicting user reviews mentioning wireless charging so nothing concrete.
I picked up a couple of cheap ones to get her started however they seem to interfere with the Pixel 3 wireless charging link when on the Stand - it charges initially then drops shortly after.
(I've cross-tested both our Pixel 3s against both stands with and without the case, and it's definitely the case causing the issue).
So is anyone using one that works consistently? I'm willing to ship in if not stocked in the UK, so any recommendations based on personal experience would be appreciated.
TIA.
I have just received a Snakehive case. I am very pleased with it.
I do NOT have the Google wireless charger but an old Chinese Qi one.
The Pixel 3 DOES charge when in this wallet case, but you have to be careful with placement.
Also, I would always have the case OPEN to avoid phone getting hot.

Thanks I'll look into it.
The phone did charge initially - indicating placement was correct but would drop shortly after the screen went off (on a 1 minute screen setting). The case in use is a magnetic closure which I suspect is the issue.
Snakehive is also a magnetic case, but phone charges up to 100% (albeit somewhat slowly as it is a cheapo Qi charger). As mentioned case kept OPEN so magnet is hanging to the side. Interesting to see what Google wireless charger will do... Expensive!

Unfortunately the Snakehive case exhibits the same behaviour with the Pixel Stand.
However my wife likes the case a lot, so is going to keep using it and just leave the phone caseless on the stand at night to charge.
Either way, my work here is done ?
One more thought... the phone actually gets pretty WARM during fast charge - especially in any wallet case.
This would undoubtedly be bad for the longevity of the battery - so I would recommend leaving the front flap open whilst charging by any means - wired/wireless, in order to keep temperature of battery at a minimum.
CodeMonkey have you an update? Did your wife get a Snakehive case and the OFFICIAL Google Pixel wireless charging stand? What is the verdict on this combination?

As I posted above. Doesn't work with the Pixel Stand (probably a side effect of the stand's orientation).
