[Q] USB doesn't function; want to flash bootloader from TWRP - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hello there,
I have an issue with my nexus 7 (deb) whereby the USB port is able to charge, however it is unrecognizable in every computer I put it into (Windows 8, 8.1, 7, XP and even Ubuntu). I have even tried multiple micro-usb cords (about 4 different ones) with each OS.
I have come to terms with it not having any usb support, however... I am stuck in limbo on a half-working lollipop build with a 4.02 bootloader and Gapps not 'sticking' on reboot.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution of flashing a bootloader from recovery, as ADB or fastboot will not work.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!

I will keep coming back and scowering the threads, and will post a solution; I hope to find something here...

There is a TWRP-flashable Lollipop bootloader in the following thread. It worked for me. Click on Update is available. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...e][Flo/Deb] - Pure AOSP 5.0.2_r1 Build LRX22G

[Q] Problem installing Samsung MTP Windows 7 update

As the title suggests I cannot install the Samsung MTP Windows 7 update. I also get a message stating that the driver for the Nexus did not install correctly. Obviously, this means that I cannot see the phone as a device within My Computer and therefore I cannot transfer files on to the phone.
I only install Windows 7 about 6 weeks ago so I doubt the Windows install is corrupted.
Other than this slight issue I have to say that I LOVE this phone.
Any help much appreciated!
Error details below:

I thought this was the right forum for this question as it is a Galaxy Nexus?!
Remove all the samsung USB driver's and regulair drivers you allready have installed.
than update your windows 7 to latest update.
reboot.
and try again.
let us know if that helped.

Thank you for the advice. I will try that out this evening and will report back...
any update on this?
found this thread by google as i had the same problem. if anyone is still interested, it got it fixed by installing the update while the nexus was connected.

Thanks for posting this information. IMO, leaving the device plugged in is counterintuitive when updating that but it does resolve the problem.
What I'd suggest is as mentioned before, through control remove any and all drivers you have installed and then try the universal drivers 0.7 in the Dev section. I can confirm they work a treat on windows 7. One sec and I'll get a link for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875
So when you plug your phone in windows may try and auto install the drivers, can cell windows for doing anything and then manually direct it to look for where ever you put the universal one. This will work in both adb mode (phone on) and fast boot mode and will also work using a tool kit.

I was searching the web and joined this forum simply to say thank you for this information. I do not have a Samsung Nexus, but a Galaxy Reverb and the suggestion you gave worked perfectly on mine as well.

[Q] Odin help?

I'm on the latest Tmobile stock firmware, and I'm trying to root. However, when I install Odin and put the phone into Download Mode, it doesn't connect after plugging in the USB cable. The box ID:COM stays blank. If I connect the phone while it's on, it'll connect as a media device, just not in Download Mode. Any pointers? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: In case anyone else has this problem, I resolved it by plugging the USB cable directly into the computer. I had an extension cable since my computer was in a bad spot. Stupid me.
Make sure ur USB debugging mode is turned on (under phone settings, developer options), if that doesnt do it...
Make sure kies is disabled (uninstall if need be - I technically never did but others reported it as a solution, so I might as well) , if that dont work...
Install Mskips latest toolkit and redownload his drivers (option 1 I believe)... you can still root whatever way you want but I havent heard anyone have issues connecting to Odin with his drivers

Also, might as well throw in, since your not rooted, now might be a good time to backup your phones modem/radio/NV/imei files as those things can mess up (as a few have reported, very few I should say) during the root process... very few but better safe than sorry

Thanks for the response. USB debugging was on, Kies wasn't even installed. I'll try Mskip's tookbox and see. As for making a backup, what program do you suggest? Does the toolbox do it?

[Q] Soft (?) Bricked i747M

So I was trying to install the latest CM and ran into some problems, couldn't get it to install. Long story short, I ended up using the "EZ Unlock" bootloader unlocker app that is only for Verizon phones, not anyone else, and screwed my phone up. I know, my fault, I didn't pay enough attention at the time and didn't realize it wasn't meant for my phone.
The phone will not power on at all, nothing on the screen, can't even seem to get the LED working. However, I can see it with Odin and in the device manager. I can't seem to get Odin to succeed at doing anything though. Do I need the jig to force the phone into download mode? Will that even work, or is JTAG my only option at this point?
There is a method of putting a debricking. img on you SDCard and getting your phone to boot... I fixed mine this week using it. You need the debricking image for you phone, I found mine online no problem. The card has to be prepared using Linux but I used an emulator on my windows 7 machine. It took three attempts but I am now typing on my formally bricked phone.
There is hope.

Is your carrier Bell Canada because I have that image still. If not search and you will find your carrier image or there is a method to make your own from a working phone that is same as yours.

My phone is with Telus. I did find an image and have been trying the debricking method since I posted. No luck yet, but I'll try a few more times before giving up. I am using a 32gb card, to match my 32gb S3.
I've found a few more things out about my phone now. When I plug it in, windows makes the connection noise, and the phone shows up as a qualcomm device. If I hold the power button, after about 10 seconds windows plays the disconnect sound and the device disappears. If I release and press again, the phone will "turn back on" as far as making the connection to the computer again. Still nothing on the actual phone though, and no vibration for any of that.
Did you move the image on to the card using Linux or Linux emulator on Windows... that is the only way it would work and the card has to be a class 10 fast card.

You will know when the card is being prepared properly because it takes over 10 minutes writing time in Linux emulator before it was complete.

It is a class 10 card, yes. I used DD for Windows to copy the img. Started downloading the latest Ubuntu to load onto a VM but won't have time for that until tomorrow. It takes over 10 minutes for the img to write with DD on Windows too, so I hoped that would work, but if not I'll try Linux tomorrow.
I used cygwin on Windows it downloaded in a few minutes and worked fine.

UPDATE - It lives!
Using DD for windows appeared to work, but the phone wouldn't boot into download mode. After installing ubuntu and using DD from that, it booted into download mode first try. Re-flashed stock firmware and all is well. Curiously it only took about 2 minutes to write the img to the SD card with ubuntu, but I'm not complaining.
Thank you to all the people who have posted information on fixing this, both in this thread and others.

No OS or backup. Send help.

I'll try to be as concise as possible.
- Have TWRP custom recovery
- Wanted to replace it with the stock recovery because I was unable to update to 4.4.4
- I was rooted
- Get the not so bright idea of wiping my entire Nexus 7 in hopes of getting rid of TWRP
- Now I have no OS and only TWRP
- Windows 7 does not recognize my Nexus 7 because I only have access to TWRP
The only solution I can think of is getting a male microUSB to female USB 2.0/3.0 adapter and plugging in a flash drive with the Android 4.4.4 ROM on it. Is there a more software oriented solution to this problem that will save me from spending money on an adapter?
I didn't have any important information or irreplaceable information on my Nexus 7 so I'm not worried about that. I'm new to ROMs and custom recoveries (which should be obvious by now), because I'm used to Verizon/Samsung policies.
Anyway, please please help me out guys. I have no idea how to fix this besides the microUSB - USB idea.
I did the same thing a while back on my s5. You need to download stock Rom for your carrier and model number. Google stock rom with your phone model number and download. And flash the md5 file.

[Q] Root without pc

Can i root my Galaxy Nexus GSM without connecting it to a PC?
My micro-usb connection on the phone is broke ...
I'm using android 4.2.1, since I restored it I don't have mobile data connection, In the settings I see it receives HDSPA+ but it won't connect, never had this issue before restoring it. So now I wanna try a custom rom.
My USB is also broken and I want to Root!
I have the same problem with my phone: USB port is broken (will not connect to PC, only charges). And, I want to root my device, preferably with CyanogenMod. I've been all over the internet looking for a solution, but haven't quite came up with the answer that I need. Framaroot isn't compatible with Galaxy Nexus, apparently. Can someone help guide me through this? Thanks!

So I just wanted to post this because after about a year of having a "bad USB" port, I decided maybe I'd try to clean the port. I stuck a toothpick in there and cleaned out all of this pocket lint and other crap in there: low and behold, my device is now connecting!!!!!! After all of this time, I Just needed to clean the port!!!
