My father in law has just had his screen replaced as he had a slight accident with dropping a after shave bottle on the screen. He has had the screen replaced and for some reason when I call comes through its like the screen is froze can't do anything, also when you go to wake the phone up sometimes he has to double press the button at the back to unlock it can anybody she'd any light on this as to me the screen is responding when it's unlocked as I can make calls swipe through app draw etc. Here is what I have tried so far,
1.factory reset
2.calbraoted the screen
3.turned security for pin.
That is the liquid damage. I believe nothing would help.
Maybe if you send it on repair they could figure what is causing (some hardware fault probably).

Thanks for the reply, liquid damage the after shave bottle didn't smash or did no aftershave touch the screen or the phone.
Check different screen. Was it panel or full panel and frame replacement?

So I bought a brand new Xperia Play from eBay. I assume that it is covered under warranty.
However, the other week I dropped the phone. The LCD Screen is not completely cracked! What is disgraceful is that the drop was not even from a high height! Such a brittle piece of plastic!!
The strange thing is, although the phone still works, it seems to run a little bit more sluggish. I'm not sure. The BIG problem is, when I begin a call, my screen turns black, and once the call is finished, the screen won't turn back on again (Even though I can hear sounds through the speakers). If I press the lock button quick enough before ending a call the screen sometimes turns back on.
I was thinking about buying a new LCD screen from ebay for £20, however I'm afraid that it won't fix the 'screen turning off during a call' problem.
What would be the best way to get this phone repaired?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Maybe you damaged the light sensor on the screen?

Maybe you damaged the proximity sensor?
If the proximity or light sensor was damaged, how would this make the screen switch off during a call, not turning on again?
Does anyone know the best route to get this repaired?

Replace the front glass. Maybe you didn't destroy the proximity, but just damaged it to behave in that way. Also, broken glass is also maybe affecting it.
Thanks, I'm going to buy a new screen then. God knows how long it will take to ship, but I will keep you guys updated with pictures as soon as progress is made.
Mine was doing exactly the same thing after shattering the glass. The proximity sensor could not see through the cracks and the IR light would refract back in as if it were against my face. It behaved strangely where sometimes opening the slider would snap it out and other times it would not. Replacing the glass/digitizer did the trick. The only problem was that no replacement parts on eBay include the adhesive gasket and the old one is likely ruined with stuck-on glass shards. I pulled off as much as I could and reused it but me touchscreen doesn't stick all the way down sometimes. I ordered a dummy phone to see if I could salvage it from one.

The screen is designed to switch off during a call if it detects you face next to the screen (proximity sensor) if it is damaged and reporting wrong info to android. That is why the screen switches off during call.

The sensor is fine. The glass covering it is not.
Hi everybody,
I have problem with my HTC Touch Pro 2.
It was fully working until I damaged my LCD screen and digitizer.
So I ordered a new one LCD and digitizer from ebay. I changed old lcd and digitizer, booted up my HTC and everything looked allright. But problem came soon. Touch screen can't recognize my touch exactly. For example, if I click on something, digitizer solve it allways about 2-3mm higher. So I can't click on start, battery and every other click is moved about 2-3mm higher.
I made a calibration, but without any effect. I made a hard reset and than a calibration, problem still same.
And if try to make a new calibration (after first calibration after HR), I click on first cross (in the middle of screen), then up-left corner, down-left corner, down-right corner, up-right corner and nothing happens, I have to click on first cross again... and whole procedure again... So I have to make a HR and try to make a new calibration... still same problem.
Could anybody help me please? I'm going crazy, because I like my HTC and I can't use it anymore.
Is there any other way to make a calibration or how can I repair it?
ROM:
Energy.RHODIUM.29022.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Jul.04.7z
(I have this ROM before I damaged LCD screen, any it worked fine)
It almost sounds like the screen/digitizer aren't lined up correctly... Just my .02.

Ok, then It seems to be a HW problem between screen and digitizer?
So what can I do now? Try to repair it again?
How can I check, if digitizer is OK? or could be digitizer bad at all?

I'm just guessing from your description. I've never actually replaced the screen... If the two have to line up perfectly, I would ensure they are lined up correctly. Perhaps try slightly moving the digitizer down...

Ok, thanks. But I can't move with a digitizer, because it is in fixed position. Maybe I can move with a screen under a digitizer, but then I will not be able to see whole screen (digitizer has a black edge/margin/border).
Any other suggestion?

Nope, all I got. Calibration always works perfectly for me - if calibration doesn't work, there certainly must be some hardware problem. You replaced the screen, unfortunately you must establish where the hardware issue lies.
I don't have any help for you, sorry, just jumping on the wagon. My touch screen worked fine for a year but is now way off (1.5-2 inches sometimes) without having damaged the screen to my knowledge. I've switched roms (from MR.X to Mighty) and hard reset. If I try to calibrate it just keeps running through the process. Should I try to replace the digitizer? I plan on getting an iPhone if possible on Sprint in the coming month but would like to sell this for at least a little bit.
To both of you guys - have you ensured there's nothing between the screen or digitizer? Nothing that is wedged on the edge of the screen...?
I know some had reported complete screen failures just from some gunk that got wedged on the side of the screen.

Thought about that, but dismissed the tiny little amounts of gunk on the edge..currently searching for a toothpick or something small to clean out the edge. Thanks for the idea! Will report back.
Thanks so much arrrghhh! Found a small pin and got out most of the dust/gunk that was between one side of my phone. Apparently that bezel side is just a little bit looser. You saved me lots of time and money! Thanks. Always helpful on here and PPCGeeks.
Edit #2: Must still be more junk because the 100% functionality just went away. Time to clean it again
Hi everybody I have a question regarding a screen problem I have.
Like I mentioned in an earlier post I accidentally spilt a lot of pure alcohol(the kind you use to disinfect a wound or something) on my HOX.
After a while the phone screen showed some strange grey shape on the lower right part of the screen and a bright white long shape looking like water jumping from a fountain on the left side starting from the bottom of the screen extending to almost the middle of the screen. After turning it off for 8-10 hours they grey shape dissapeared and the white remains and it doesnt look like it will ever go.
Strangely enough the HOX has no problem everything is working but I noticed that some apps are working somehow over the white shape covering it and some others like facebook seem to be under it making it visible.
I made some screen shots to show you the problem but stangely enough this white shape is not shown at all in the screen shots!!!!
Can anyone tell me where this thing might be?
LCD? Digitizer? elsewhere?
HTC funny enough suggested a factory reset to solve this and if that doesnt work(like there is a chance that it will...) to just send it to service.
I plan to play dumb to service hopping to fix this under my warranty as the phone has absolutely no scratch or anything anywhere as I never even dropped it once.
Do you think they can somehow find out what happened of maybe they will fix it under warranty?
Thanks a lot for your time reading this and I d love to have your opinions
Any photo?
Perhaps some alcohol got stuck between the lcd and glass...

Looks like overheating damage by a component beneath the screen, possibly something reacting to/affected by the alcohol.

When you say beneath the screen do you mean beneath the LCD as well or just beneath the glass?
I am just thinking that if its beneath the LCD it would probably not show plus the phone would have some kind of functional problem(it works just fine) wouldnt it?
Beneath the screen assembly. It looks like (possibly) some component or board has caused damage to or affected the digitizer, as your actual display seems ok.

So the service corrective action will be a screen assembly replacement or you think that something more will be needed?
Also if the digitizer was damaged wouldnt the phone use be affected?Cause the device has not been affected in anyway.
Everything works like it used to before this damage.
Send it of for repair, youll have to pay of course, how much tdo you like your phone?, that's the question.

I like my HOX very much otherwise why would I pay 428 euro to buy it?
Of course what makes the HOX stand out of the samrtphone crowd is the amazing display so of course I want it fixed.
I will try to cheat saying I know nothing about it(the phone doesnt even has a scratch) hoping waranty to cover this but if this doesnt work I ll have to pay 196 euro for screen replacement.
Although appart from that mark nothing else is affected I am worried that perhaps a screen replacement might not be enough if the digitizer is affected by something beneath it.
Do you think that a screen replacement will be enough to solve this problem?
HTC will give you the digitizer and LCD, especially if you end up paying, which will then get you a new bezel and unibody all still tapped up in protective coat, I've had it done for my phone, 160gbp.I even think you get the Onex+ version screen, gorilla glass 2.Could be wrong

In the past month or so my Dinc2's touch screen has become increasingly erratic. I don't think it's the screen itself, because anytime problems arise, a quick off and on of the display will fix things. However, the problems seem to be centered on the bottom section of the screen...weird.
The problems I'm talking about are unregistered presses, pressing one place and something happening in another place, presses happening without any contact at all, etc. For example, sometimes I won't be able to drag to unlock, but when I turn the screen off and on, it'll work.
I'm thinking (hoping) it's a software thing. I'm running CyanogenMod-7.2.0-vivow. Are there updates to this ROM? Should I just try another ROM?
Looks to me like a faulty digitiser. But try wiping and refalshing. It won't hurt. Good luck.

After wiping, should I flash a fresh version of the ROM or restore a backup?

try wiping and flashing without restoring. start fresh. if it works, then you can look int restoring.

Didn't work. Any other ideas? Not sure what this digitiser thing that you're talking about is...
EDIT: Ahh...it's hardware. Well, crap. Is there a cheap way out of this mess?
I found an "HTC Droid Incredible 2 Tough Screen Digitizer Replacement." $24.99. Is this the solution?
If you truly believe it's the digitizer, then yes, that's the way to go. I warn you though, the digitizer is glued to the LCD so you need patience, a light hand, and a blow dryer with low heat setting. I replaced one myself and managed to make a small spot on the LCD where I must have accidentally flexed it a little.
Back on topic, I believe I'm having the same issue with an Original Incredible. I turned on a developer option that registers screen presses as dots on the screen and I have two, almost constant, finger presses in the upper left middle of my screen. I'm thinking it's the digitizer, solely because the presses also occur in my TWRP recovery. Lucky for me, the digitizer is only attached to the front housing of the Incredible, so I just have to purchase a whole new front housing with digitizer attached. Best of luck on replacing the digitizer if you go that route, but you may as well want to invest in the whole screen + digitizer package if you can afford to.

I just replaced the digitizer and most of the housing for my 4G AT&T Xperia Play. It successfully turned on and charges, but the screen doesn't respond to my swiping or tapping. It does change orientation when the game pad is pulled out and the game pad does work since I can use it to navigate the menu when I press and hold the power button. Does anyone know what I messed up? And is there a ROM that allows the use of the game pad for all operations if I can never get the screen digitizer to work?
So now I can charge it and turn it on, but I can't swipe to open get past the lock screen...
Does anyone have any ideas, please?
Besides not having the ribbon cables plugged in no I dont have any ideas. I replaced my screen once and it worked fine.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Maybe it is because I used super glue as an adhesive to glue the glass on?

I would not assume the super glue has anything to do with it unless you caked it on. Funny thing though, as soon as I did my old swap I realized how much worse the Chinese lcd was from the oem Sony screen. Weird ghosting and shadowing when moving in side scrolling games. Sold the Xperia and bought another one on Craigslist.
