LCD Digitizer Repair Fail - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just replaced the digitizer and most of the housing for my 4G AT&T Xperia Play. It successfully turned on and charges, but the screen doesn't respond to my swiping or tapping. It does change orientation when the game pad is pulled out and the game pad does work since I can use it to navigate the menu when I press and hold the power button. Does anyone know what I messed up? And is there a ROM that allows the use of the game pad for all operations if I can never get the screen digitizer to work?
So now I can charge it and turn it on, but I can't swipe to open get past the lock screen...

Does anyone have any ideas, please?

Besides not having the ribbon cables plugged in no I dont have any ideas. I replaced my screen once and it worked fine.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Maybe it is because I used super glue as an adhesive to glue the glass on?

I would not assume the super glue has anything to do with it unless you caked it on. Funny thing though, as soon as I did my old swap I realized how much worse the Chinese lcd was from the oem Sony screen. Weird ghosting and shadowing when moving in side scrolling games. Sold the Xperia and bought another one on Craigslist.

Bought new Defy Touch Screen Digitalizer but...

I bought a new oem touch screen digitizer from dealextreme to replace my old shattered one but it is not recognizing inputs, except when I try to pull down the notification bar with phone locked (CM10 Jelly Bean - Quarkx).
This digitizer comes with a film on both sides of the glass and I removed both. I know that removing the outer film doesn't acctualy intefere but, does removing the inner film do since it is close to the LCD screen?
Edit: I've followed the instrunctions from here: http://www.repairsuniverse.com/motorola-defy-screen-repair-take-apart-guide.html

It is not the problem, I turned the phone on with mother board, LCD screen and touch screen digitizer all spread (cables connected of course) and it's still not working. I think my new touch screen digitizer is broken

I bought my digitizer from repairs universe. I also took off both films because the inner one had an air bubble. I broke mine because my proximity sensor doesn't work and i tried to remove a bit of the thick plastic which was covering the opening. now the very top right corner of the screen doesn't register any touches. I'm not sure what's wrong with yours but perhaps try a different rom. Or try disconnecting it again and put it back.

I tried both CM9 and CM10 and none is working, and I tried disconnecting and reconnecting countless times with no luck. I'll try to send it to customer service to fix it. Hope it is not too expensive.
Thanks!
Taking advantage of this topic, is there any way to configure 'automatically answer calls' without using the touch? CM7.1-11.

[Q] Touch screen madness

In the past month or so my Dinc2's touch screen has become increasingly erratic. I don't think it's the screen itself, because anytime problems arise, a quick off and on of the display will fix things. However, the problems seem to be centered on the bottom section of the screen...weird.
The problems I'm talking about are unregistered presses, pressing one place and something happening in another place, presses happening without any contact at all, etc. For example, sometimes I won't be able to drag to unlock, but when I turn the screen off and on, it'll work.
I'm thinking (hoping) it's a software thing. I'm running CyanogenMod-7.2.0-vivow. Are there updates to this ROM? Should I just try another ROM?
Looks to me like a faulty digitiser. But try wiping and refalshing. It won't hurt. Good luck.

After wiping, should I flash a fresh version of the ROM or restore a backup?

Didn't work. Any other ideas? Not sure what this digitiser thing that you're talking about is...
EDIT: Ahh...it's hardware. Well, crap. Is there a cheap way out of this mess?
I found an "HTC Droid Incredible 2 Tough Screen Digitizer Replacement." $24.99. Is this the solution?
If you truly believe it's the digitizer, then yes, that's the way to go. I warn you though, the digitizer is glued to the LCD so you need patience, a light hand, and a blow dryer with low heat setting. I replaced one myself and managed to make a small spot on the LCD where I must have accidentally flexed it a little.
Back on topic, I believe I'm having the same issue with an Original Incredible. I turned on a developer option that registers screen presses as dots on the screen and I have two, almost constant, finger presses in the upper left middle of my screen. I'm thinking it's the digitizer, solely because the presses also occur in my TWRP recovery. Lucky for me, the digitizer is only attached to the front housing of the Incredible, so I just have to purchase a whole new front housing with digitizer attached. Best of luck on replacing the digitizer if you go that route, but you may as well want to invest in the whole screen + digitizer package if you can afford to.

Thanks for the info! Is it relatively easy to turn on the option that shows screen presses?

[Q] Black screen, flex cable?

Recently my play with no recent modification + stock kernel + treated always with care started to light the screen less than normal (but still working) and now the screen is totally black, it only vibrates pressing the power button.
I tried flashtool many times but nothing.
I searched in the forum and probably is a trouble with the flex cable (also cause sliding sometimes changed the intensity of screen's light), but how can I be sure that is exactly this piece? Also I'm not so good at taking apart phones (but i'll try if i'll be almost sure that is the flex cable)...
No warranty (too old) and I don't know how much i'll pay at sony center...
I was always afraid about the slider cause too shaky in my opinion.
"sliding sometimes changed the intensity of screen's light"
Most definitely your flex cable. It needs to be changed.
Yeah... I only have to cross my fingers cause if it's not the cable I don't really know what could be...
Is there a way in case that works to increase the new flex cable's life? I don't really want to fight with this anymore...

I'll miss the gamepad and all emulators too much...
But surely i'm not going to spend a lot of money on the play.

Black screen is a sign the flex cable broke. On the other hand by the time you replace something else might of broke. If you saw a disassebly video on the xperia play you will literally take the whole thing a apart including the gamepad.
Good luck while replacing flex cable.
I changed it on my phone and on another 2 of my friends, it is not very easy to do, but still better than trash your phone
I can give you little tips to make it working longer as I did on mine.
PLACE A STICKER ON A CABLE on one or on both sides, you can cut a sticker to make it fit the most to cable and you can glue edges if needed. It is good to prevent from scratching and breaking cable caused by sliding phone.
Tips while you repairing your phone:
When you are going to put Flex cable on its place, you should perfectly fit that three little 'tails' to its holes if you don't your display will touch a digitizer and make a spots on your screen.
And after you connect flex cable with motherboard try to press the cable the most you can 'under the motherboard' because flex cable is getting a damage if you don't do this.
Now i have time to replace the flex so i'll try and see if the phone will work.
Is adhesive tape good inside the phone? Or is insulating tape (that is thicker than adhesive tape...) better? Or other/nothing?
PS: Did it! The phone works good :good:

Cracked Digitizer and LCD Damage

hello everyone,
My friend's OG Pro was drop but can still power on (vibrate upon charging). The device has a 1 inch hairline crack on its touch screen digitizer but the LCD only shows a blank/no picture display when turn on.
I find this weird cause in most cases I notice that OG Pro LCD is pretty much durable even if the digitizer has a small web cracked.
Has anyone here have similar situation as my friend' phone?

The same has happened to me. I have seen people with bigger cracks on their phones while mine looked like a scratch and would not show nothing on the screen. Had it replaced and all is back to good. I guess it depends on where the crack is.

hello ricanares,
Did you try to re-connect if maybe the LCD cable connector was dislodge after the drop of your phone ?

[Q] white screen after digitizer replacement

Hi,
Ok I attempted to replace the digitizer on my LG G3 well the lcd was still good. After I took everything apart had to get the old glass and lcd separated. I did that but in the process the black front to the lcd (black plastic that is glued to digitizer) came off with the digitizer. Is that part crucial to the lcd screen working? Also I after putting it back together all I get now is a blank white lcd screen which comes on for a few seconds after holding power button and cuts right back off. Also when i put it on the charger now I get a constant blinking red led light and the phone starts to get really hot until pulled from the charger. Has anyone else experienced this before? What could be the problem?
I know I´m a bit late but I just experienced the same problem. Did you manage to fix it? Because I don´t want to spend about 40-50€ for a non-original display + digitizer.

Sadly, no. Since I got the digitizer for 6€ (paypal gave me 10€ discount) I think the easiest way is to get a LCD+digitizer.
