If I've already rooted and blocked updates on my ftv, if I unplug the unit or the power goes out, do I have to block updates again upon power up?
No, you do not need to block again. This applies if you block via any DNS service or router blocks or native FTV blocking.

You should always keep updates blocked on the router as a backup. But once the OTA Update is blocked in the FireTV. You only need to reblock them if you do a Factory Reset.
Before I start a new thread with the "same" topic, I pirate this here.
My case:
I had a brand new (GERMAN, stock firmware, don't know version yet) fireTV here and only a AVM Fritz.Box 7490 router availible to block the urls.
I mean this url here:
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com

rubinho help me to block them:

The blocking of URLs via Fritzbox is usually easy
- Go to Internet -> Filter -> Lists (Listen) -> Blacklists
- Type your Amazon Update-Urls in the List and save.
- Go to Internet -> Filter -> Accessprofile (Zugangsprofile) -> Edit Standart Profile
- Set Filter Internetsites of on and save.

The ping still work on edgesuite because AVM block mechanism only block UDP & TCP.
Here are my settings:

So i start the AFTV, choose german languagwe and plug in the lan cable.
Wait
And then
What went wrong?
The minmum blocklist I try was:
Code:
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com
Greetings by I_did_it_just_tmrrow
EDIT:
Is it perhaps cos the AFTV can't load this url?
Code:
http://54.231.9.105/kindle-wifi/wifistub.html
EDIT2:
Okay, got it! Land on homescreen now.
Try later to install kodi. I had a german AFTV buyed at "Saturn" with FW: 51.1.3.0_user_513010720 .
So I do:
-*Blocked*Nothing on my Fritz.Box 7490 router
-Start my AFTV the first time without lan cable connected
-Connect lan cable when I can choose german as language
-Wait for checking the internet connection until success
-Plug out the lan cable at the moment he is checking for updates!!!! You should be fast!
-Now you should come to the amazon-login panel, fill in user and pass
-Before you finished the form fields to login, you should enable the Fritz.Box blacklist to block the 2 sites again and plug in lan cable again
-In my case I can not use any amazon service
-When I press to check update he told me that there is problem after "short" time (timeout...)
So I hope I can use kodi and got any quick launcher icon without root.

I recently purchased an AR Drone from Parrot, and am trying to connect it to my EVO (rooted, running MikFroyo 4.5). It seems that the EVO cannot recognize the ad-hoc network that the Drone broadcasts. Is there a ROM or kernel that I could use to allow it to detect an ad hoc wifi network?
I'd rather not apply an infrastructure patch to my brand new drone, instead just messing with the phone I mess with all the time. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Answered my own question
Well, I just answered my own question, and figured I'd share with everyone else. I just tested this at my local Brookstone store (I'm friends with the store manager) and was able to fly theirs as well as my own.
From what I've done, the process to make any ROM Ad-Hoc compatible is pretty simple, although you do need adb.
First step, go into a command window, and with your phone connected to your computer run "adb shell wpa_supplicant -v".
This will spit out some information regarding the wpa security measures in place on your particular ROM. What we are looking for is the set of numbers it shows.

See where it says 0.5.11? That's what we want. It could also show 0.6.xx. Either way, that determines which of these zip files you should flash onto your phone. After it is flashed, your phone will be able to recognize and connect to Ad-Hoc networks, they will be displayed in the WiFi setting menu as (*)NETWORK_NAME.
If you are showing a 0.5.xx number download the file "wpa_adhoc-signed.zip"
If you are showing a 0.6.xx number download the file "wpa6_adhoc-signed.zip"
Last second notes: This works on ALL phones and ALL ROMs, you do need to check the wpa_supplicant data on each phone and ROM, it is usually different per unique setup. Also, the app I used to fly the Parrot AR.Drone is free, it is called AR.Pro Lite and is on the Android Market for any phones that are already Ad-Hoc capable or enabled.
That should be it, go out and see the (more) complete world of WiFi, and enjoy your new toy if you so wish!

Ad-Hoc Network Detection
After Installation my WiFi did not working... :/
WIFI turninng on .... ERROR
I purchased 3 FTVs for my home net purely to run xbmc and dont have a lot of interest in amazon prime or the stock FTV setup.
2 of the 3 boxes were fine, blocked updates on my net, rooted, disabled updates, XBMC on, everything worked great. Still need to do some tweaking but all good.
1 of the 3 boxes already knew of the update, and is trying to get it, but is of course blocked. As I have never booted it, I have no way to know what FW its on now.

I have tried waiting of course.. Tried pulling the network cable after it finds the DHCP and before 'checking for updates' (actually doesnt say that it seems to already 'know').
Is there a way of resetting the knowledge of the update ??
What is my best course of action with the greatest probability of securing root ??
Is there a way of stopping an update if I let my router connect to the update links ?? As I have never done that I dont know how the process goes ??
Or is there a way of on the first boot, when it updates, enabling ADP and rooting and disabling before the next boot (I read this works but perhaps not in this situation, eg from a normal boot not a first boot).
Lastly, I am not in the US, I dont know if it will even allow me to get the updates outside of there and I cant VPN via my router.. Which would lead to a useless if not bricked FTV stuck in a loop of an update it cant get.
Sorry for the Qs.. I did search but theres a lot of variables and one mistake could lose root on this box, where possibly the right combination or sequence can preserve it.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-unbr...ry-mode-and-factory-reset-the-amazon-fire-tv/
Just did this.. With a reset of user data and cache.. really thought it would it would work..
Booted.. had to discover the remote.. then.. Exactly the same.. Update detected (blocked with openDNS) and in the same loop ??
Can I block update system by ADP ?? Given the recovery option of update by ADP, is that any use here ??
Lately I've been dogged with a problem where Kodi will not launch. Momentary black screen then back to the home page.
I fix by deleting files & folders & reinstall my backup. It works fine until the next time the power cycles on my fire tv box. It didn't used to do this & I've had no problems like this on any of my ftv sticks. Finally I realized it's because after a power cycle I try to start Kodi and it installs itself to my external storage, then won't launch anymore. I can break the cycle by removing the micro SD card but that is an unacceptable solution.
I haven't found this particular twist covered on YouTube. How can I prevent this behavior?

Nothing?
So is this a stupid question or a too-hard question?
Here are a couple suggestions:
1. reinstall from your backup, then have FTV move it to your external drive, then move it back to FTV drive.
Maybe this will reset some parameters on the FTV.
2. Just run KODI from your external drive.
I have mine running that way and it runs fine.

You want me to upload photos of my TV screen? Okeedokee...I'll try tonight if I'm home.
I used to be able to connect my S20 Ultra to my W10 PC via USB-USBC cable. Now when I connect it, it will just charge the phone. There is no access to my folders on the phone. I have tried linking my phone with W10 and it only gives you limited access to photos no videos or documents. I have even installed Syncios data transfer on my PC and it will not connect to my phone. What the heck happened?
Change the USB mode in Developer Options to file transfer
I only have 3 items in developer options. And file transfer isn't one of them. And I cannot post a screenshot until I reach 10 post.
1. Log output level debug.
2. Show TTS output.
3. Node tree debugging.

You access Developer Options by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Tap on "Build Number" a few times until it asks for your PIN or other security, enter your credentials, it should say "You are now a developer", now back out into the main Settings screen again > Scroll to the bottom > Developer Options should now be showing
Okay,
I have the developer options now enabled and have selected transferring files / Android Auto. And my PC is still not seeing my phone. I have tried 2 desktop PC's W10 and a Windows 7 and a W10 laptop and nothing. Whats really frustrating to me is, it just worked before. I would plug in the cable it would connect I would transfer my files boom it was done. I've never had to go into any options and set up my phone it just worked. I've never been into my settings and shut off or disabled anything. So either an update to the phone has screwed this up, I have no idea. I just bought a brand new USB 3.0 to USB-C cable as well.....
I just rebooted my phone it's working now. Still frustrating as hell. Thank you for your help *Detection*

Yep, still a good few bugs that need fixing in the Ultra firmware, yesterday I lost WiFi calling until I rebooted, which resulted in it reappearing and a brand new option that was never there arriving too, hopefully a couple more updates should iron it all out, to be expected with a brand new device really
No problem :good:
Hello.
I've never been up to date with modifications of all the FireTV Sticks, but recently found here some threads and bad things that OS updates bring/block and I'd like to ask for advice.
My device is as on the screenshot, OS version 5.2.8.4 and with an information in settings, that the update has been downloaded and to be installed when device idle. I disconnected it from power source and seek what are my options and what You'd do to make the best out of this Stick.

This is awesome, but is there anything for FireTV Stick II ?
https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/kl1y7z
Would this LeanBack and TVLaunchX work or should I go for WolfLanucher/LauncherManager?
1. I'd like to install a launcher (Wolf?) to speed things up. Is this possible with this OS or should I downgrade?
2. can I still disable OTA updates and stay on this OS version, or should I downgrade?
3. I dont use voice input, don't mind rooting
4. I mainly use the Stick with Kodi
5. I bought a OTG 3xUSB cable and it would be awesome if I could connect a 200GB HDD 2,5" but it doesnt work both because insufficient power supply (doesnt boot when connected) and I read that it needs to be FAT32 formatted. Can I somehow bypass that FAT32?
6. doesn't matter if FAT32 or NTFS, can I somehow share this HDD connected to FireTV via my Wi-Fi, to upload media from my PC to that hard disk?
If you have knowledge about any single thing above, pls share your thoughts or links. Thanks!
2. Exact moment with solution plus website. Also a solution, if the update has been downloaded and awaits install
https://www.techdoctoruk.com/block-updates-on-amazon-devices-new-method/
5. This gut explains it. At least 2A power supply and FAT32 is a must
https://www.reddit.com/r/firetvstick/comments/bimiwc/_/enbxqgu
6. Usefull info here. Running samba share only on rooted ROM as it requieres blocked ports. Migrating files should be easy with a FTP server that can be easly started with EsFileExplorer
https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/4jjyi4
The file size limit of 4GB really bothers me with FAT32. I'll look for other solution but I'm against running my PC as a server. Will look if my router can handle file sharing
