The ultimate ice breaker - Moto 360

I recently started a new job and so don't know many people here yet. However since I started my Moto360 has been the single best weapon in my arsenal. People have walked across the room and asked me about it and then I've done the dog and pony show for them. Most of the conversations ended with people suggesting they would either buy one themselves or as a gift for someone else.
I was not expecting this and it wasn't my intention but its been really great.
Side note, quite a few people start with "Is that the Apple Watch?" [emoji57]

Do you laugh at them and tell them you have better taste than that?? [emoji6]

Last words of my wife when she saw a pic of the 360 that was going to be delivered next day:
'You are not going to wear that freaky stuff in public, aren't you?'
As soon as she saw it weared with a nice red/black croco strap and a classy Omega watch face she sorted with something like 'WANT!'
My answer was 'in your dreams'.
Priceless revenge...

My favorite party trick is the people who touch the face because they can't see what time it is -
The watch turns on of course, so I hold it up to my mouth and say:
"OK Google, text [name of person who touched my watch], 'don't touch my watch'"
Then their phone lights up with my text and I wink and walk away.
"SHUT UP!"

I forgot how funny the general sections are....I mean u have people spending more time disecting and searching for issues then enjoying the phones...gs2 section is even worst...u have guys putting displays to 0 brightness and sitting in complete dark closets looking for blobs and streaks. Guys trying to break their phone just to find issues....Tomorrow i gonna get a six pack of coors light and come to general section for entertainment
It's the same for every phone.. you should have read some of the threads on the Nexus S after release

Guessing that is aimed at people like me. Listen mate, if you wait 6 weeks for a phone you want to make sure it's right.
As it happens, the auto brightness is really aggressive, which means the screen automatically sets it's self very low and therefore it's very obviously patchy. If you turn the screen up it looks fine but this obviously isn't that practical.
There's nothing wrong with asking a few questions.
Tbh that is exactly what you should expect when you are a website originally built for developers and there has been the release of a new phone primarily aimed at developers.
They'll naturally want to know the capabilities and issues with their phone, more so even than another phone like S2.

HA HA yeah it's proper funny all this lark.
I can't stop laughing at all those weeks I waited and the £530 I paid.
Every time I think of the bugs and problems, I have to pick myself up the floor from letting out a hearty laugh. I just can't help myself. In fact... I think there's one coming now....can't....stop....myself.......HA HA HA!
Come on now. We bought a new phone. It was expensive. We waited through delay after delay, and uncertainty from retailers telling us one thing then changing it at the last second to something else.
We're trying to enjoy it, we really are, but the problems are stopping us from doing so.
Oh...and Coors Light sucks. Drink some proper beer.

Says the guy who returned a 10.1 with a dead pixel. OP
Would you buy a brand new car that has a chip in the windscreen?
Would you buy a brand new plasma that has image burn?
I think anybody that notices a flaw in a product of high value is going to moan and complain. Were only human.

A phone/tablet/monitor with a dead pixel, car with a chipped windshield, or a plasma HDTV with image burn are real reasons to complain/return the item. I have no problem with someone wanting to return a Nexus they bought if it has a line through the screen or the volume buttons aren't working properly.
The difference here is that most people are complaining about extremely subjective things, and frankly getting really nit-picky about finding "problems".
Its like returning a car because "it just doesn't handle right for me", a plasma HDTV because "it doesn't look very good with my stereo equipment", or a phone because "the menu button doesn't work the way I thought it would".
But this isn't exclusive to the Galaxy Nexus. People like to complain about every phone that comes out. Most of the people complaining don't even own the phone either. If you read any forum within a week after a device comes out, it'll make you feel like the device is an absolute POS that you shouldn't have paid $5 for. Get the device for yourself and make your own decision, I'm sure you'll be much happer with it.
Anyways, OP, I'm with you. Take all these threads as pure comedic relief. There's no reason to put any stock into what these people are saying. Read it for fun, form your own opinions after you use the device.
I got a complaint and i dont even have one yet. And that is just it. I dont have one yet.
I invented cyberspace. You're trespassing.
Uhhh ..thanks for letting me know what p!ss tastes like...but I'll pass.

Did anyone buy a new HTC Titan on ATT today 11/20

Does anyone want to post up some first impressions on their ATT titans!?
My local store didn't receive any. And from reading elsewhere online, a LOT of stores didn't receive them. Many are saying they're expecting them tomorrow (Monday) or later. A lot of stores didn't even know what it was.
None to be found in Central Florida.Same story , the store reps don't have a clue about anything. Very dissapointed
None of my local stores (Louisville, KY) received them.
I checked two stores, one told me that there was a problem with the shipping, and it wouldn't be until Monday, the other had no idea what I was talking about. Both had to look in their systems to know what the phone was. Very disappointing experience. Not so much that the phone was delayed, but in the absolute lack of knowledge of the phone itself.
I've been reading all over the same, which is bad because at&t is an official launch partner....
I got the only one in Gainesville, FL on Sunday. The rep who sold it to me was really great and positive about Windows Phone. I hope he has a week free of jerk customers. Also between the two stores I went to and three people I talked to, everyone knew what the Titan was immediately.
4.7". Hmmm...if the size keeps increasing, forget about pocket carrying, down the line there will be accessories such as trailers for hauling it around.
This reminds me of the Schick vs. Gillette rivalry. One comes out with 2 blade razors, the other, 3 blades. Then the first one puts out one with 4 blades. Now the other puts out 5 blades. Eventually the razor head will be so big it will require an exoskeleton suit to use it.

Bah they have been shrinking, I've still have an HTC Advantage laying around and taking up a ton of space.
I live in Bellingham, Wa. and the Titan wasn't at my local AT&T store on it's release day either. When I went into the store and inquired about the Titan, the salesman had no idea what I was talking about. He didn't know that the phone existed until he went on the web. It's pretty pathetic. These guys/gals are supposed to be PHONE salesmen, but whenever I go into an ATT store I feel that they are Android/Apple reps in AT&T uniforms. When you ask about a Windows phone, they always give you a look like "Seriously, why do you want a Windows Phone?" and will try to persuade you to go either Apple or Android. They all claim that they've had multiple phones including Windows 7 phones, but it's obvious that they haven't. I know this because they never take you to a Windows phone to show off it's strengths. They just talk, talk, talk, about Android's customization abilities OR how Apple originated this and that, and how Android copied. I don't need their help to decide because I do a lot of research before making a phone purchase. Just give me the phone so I can go explore my Titan!!!
I went to look at it yesterday at my local store. The store manager knew exactly what I was asking about but told me that the shipment was delayed until Monday (today). So, I stopped by on my way in to work and get a good look at and feel of the Titan.
IMO, too big and too unoriginal. It just looks like a larger Inspire to me. Now, we all know that style is a personal thing, and not something that can be stated as fact. Unless we talk about the Pontiac Aztec, which is universally ugly. I will keep my Focus S(I know it looks just like the Galaxy S II, but I like it better!).

Some people are compelled to buy ugly things. Strange how it is but it seems to be a reverse psychology thing. A beautiful product from the beginning tends to become old and tired looking in a few years while a strange looking product tends to hold some form of interest much longer. A genuinely ugly product, like the Aztec or the Buick counterpart for example, will remain ugly.

Share your Verizon Store "Waiting in Line" stories.

This is the first time I've ever stood in line for anything. Had it not been for the state of my Droid, I would have ordered online. But it was kind of exciting in a geeky sort of way.
There were about 15 people at the store at 8:30 waiting to get their hands on a Nexus. Everyone was in their cars until about 8:50, then one guy opened his car door and the race was on. I was third in line.
Most people stood there in silence waiting for the door to open, while a few of us chatted about the phone and kvetched about VZW's handling of the launch. As they were about to unlock the door, a guy pulled up and as he was walking to the back of the line, I asked him "So, are you here for the iPhone 4S, too??" Laughter ensued, and then they let the first five of us in to claim our unicorns.
This phone is every bit worth they hype, by the way.
The exact same thing happened to me (the timing) but because it's sort of cold in South Dakota in December they let us wait inside as soon as we started a line.

Dang. Oh, well. I used my last "New every two" update for this, so I actually walked out with the phone and a pack of screen protectors for a little over $250 with tax.
There weren't a lot of people at my Verizon store. But I was there at about 8:30 and some old grandpa got there right after me. He proceded to walk to the door and stand there till 9. Me and my girlfriend were making fun of him because he was the only one standing there. Everyone else was in their cars waiting.
When 8:50 rolled around we all walked to the door and the old guy said, "So you are here for the Nexus too?" I was super surprised because it's not often that you see an old person that is up on the latest tech. I felt so bad for stereotyping him....
We had at least 30 people in the store by the time I was checked out. They ended up telling people they ran out by the time I was walking out the door. I'm shocked.
some funny stories, wish I had my own. I will be going by later today to look at the phone. Not that im not completely sold. I just like to touch it and play with it before I pay for it. Also i usually wait a week to 10 days after release to buy a phone. I don't know if that means I am just old school. Also im kinda disappointed in the pricing structures as I am out of contract and want this phone and avail for upgrade, and it seems new lines are getting the best pricing. I was kinda thinking being with VZW for 10 yrs and putting up with all their **** should give me some sort of better discount. Oh well, I forgot the last time I paid for a phone (lg dare, droid inc, and DX all free) I will work my magic after xmas provided vzw doesnt do anything stupid between now and then
There was fifteen or so people waiting for the nexus I made the comment I feel like an isheep everyone laughed except the guy who told me he had iPhone oh well

Walked in. said I was getting a new phone. They asked which one and I said "The Nexus". Their response was, we never got our shipment in. I almost jumped over the desk and beat someone half to death. They were just joking and it took me all of 10 minutes to get everything going and out the door.
I was talking with them about the wonderful release, and they were pretty upset since the official notice for release didn't come out til 5 yesterday. They said they had to call in a few people that had the day off.
Got mine, many didn't.
So, I was in line at 9:45. The manager of this store had one set aside for me, but I didn't want to chance waiting until later. There were about 40 people there for the gnex. By 10:30 I was out the the door and they were turning people away, calling other stores to see if they had any in stock. The manager said they got around 40. The phone is sweet. Haven't rooted yet, at work, but this was worth the wait.
I was fourth in line at 830. There were 20 people behind me. When we went inside at 9 they were not prepared at all. Only 3 employees there. They didn't even find the phone until 910!! The guy told me that they didn't even know it was launching today until he pulled up and saw the line! I joked with the people in line though telling them we were a there for the whit razr. The Verizon rep then said, "there is a white razor?"... it was sad

Wow... It's times like these I realize how "techless" this place is... (Indiana)
City of ~200,000 people and I was at Radio Shack at 9:15am to find out they open at 10:00am (wtf?) so I went to a Verizon store next door. They had been open and one older lady was in there getting a feature phone. I asked if they had any Nexuses and he said "Yea, they are $249". I told him I was going to wait and see how much they were at the Shack so I left. Stopped in at a different Shack at 10 and no one was there but the manager. He said they would have some in today. I left for another Verizon store (non corporate) and there was one girl in there with a Droid. Nexuses were coming in later that day.
Finally stopped in at another Verizon store that had been open for over an hour and I was the only one there. I asked about the Nexus and he said "Yea we got some - you are the first one to ask about them".
I was there for an hour and ONE other guy came in and bought one.
5 stores, 3 hours - 2 Nexuses sold...
Went to the store in Centennial, CO around 9:10AM and was helped immediately. There were only 4 people in the store, two of whom were buying a Nexus, 3 including me. I got mine activated and walked out.
This is one plus to living in Gods waiting room. Here in SWFL (3/4 of a million people) and I was in one of the main corporate stores 15 minutes after opening. A guy was at the counter getting his Nexus, I got the second one and no one else came in while I was there. I'm perfectly happy for all the old folks down here to not get 4g phones, keeps it nice and open for the rest of us.

Disappointed in Samsung and Rogers

I extremely disappointed in both Samsung and Rogers, and as a result, I am back on iOS as I type this message.
I sold my S2 i9100 on Craigslist and switched from Fido to Rogers to get an S3 on a three year contract. The S3 was beautiful for the first few hours. By midnight that night, I noticed some serious artifacts on the screen (there are many posts on XDA that call these "ink spots" etc.)
I contacted the salesperson at Rogers regarding an exchange, and I was told to bring it to their technician - if he recognized the defect, I would get a new device. He couldn't see the problem! He had never heard of the problem (yeah, right!) so it would not be exchanged unless I sent it off to Samsung to have a look!
I returned the POS on buyers remorse, paying a $75 fee and got the iPhone 5 as a result.
I love the iPhone and I've had many of them in the past, too. But the Samsung problem of faulty screens is definitely a common issue and I most likely wont switch back, unless something truly game changing comes out for Android.
Rogers is terrible, aside from having a gorgeous iPhone 5 out of the deal, leaving Fido was a big mistake.
I would be very weary of purchasing an S3 if you, the reader, haven't already.
Google S3 Ink Spots, and see many disappointed s3 owners like me.
Cool story bro.

I work at a tech shop. Unfortunately they don't always update us on defects. There was a recall on sandybridge mainboards but no one notified us until after two weeks, that is just one instance.
and your point is....? you're back on ios so this whole story makes no difference at all now right? you dont have an sgs3 anymore. end of story. not sure what the point of this is.
i had 3 sgs3's in my possession at one point and didnt see any of this. i also have 6 friends with sgs3's and they dont have this. you should expect some manufacturing defects when a product is made in the hundreds of thousands dude. it just happens. you should blame that tech and yourself for not getting a replacement. you could of easily stood up to them and got a replacement. you being passive is what the problem here is.
I have two ink spots on my S3 but only when the screen is displaying BLACK. All you had to do was warranty the phone dude. And also, this is the GS3 thread, not the flipping iPhone5 thread. Oh that's right, we don't have one!!!!! I own an iPhone 4, but you don't see me coming here saying how awesome it is?!

You obviously stopped reading when you saw the word iOS and decided to post a worthless comment defending Android lol. The point is, people should be weary when purchasing the S3 and look closely. Just because you and your six friends don't see something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Even the technician couldn't see it - that doesn't mean it wasn't there. There are dozens of threads online, and XDA inpeticular, where users are very frustrated with this problem in their S3's.

Ummm... read my post again. This has nothing to do with iPhone or android. It has everything to do with you not taking the correct route in getting the replacement. The only worthless post is this thread you created to inform others of you happiness of iOS in an android development website. Replace the phone for a new one. Its that simple. You didn't do that and you should probably take the frustration out on yourself rather than the "tech" that probably didn't care enough to really look for the issue or Samsung for the quality. This really comes down to you not taking the initiative.

Ok, maybe I should refer to it as a "different phone" due to the poor quality of the Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 I purchased. Happy? If you don't find any use for this thread, then leave it, and stop bumping it with your pointless wannabe moderator comments. Someone who is in the market for a new phone, and is considering buying this phone, might find it a little more meaningful. I for one, wish there was a lot of threads on the subject, so I could have saved myself a $75 restocking fee to bring it back, by not buying it in the first place.

Dude, you bought a bad phone out of however millions were made. Just because one phone had something wrong with it doesn't mean that you should tell people NOT to buy that phone. And besides, basing your opinion about an ENTIRE company based on one defective device is STUPID AS HELL! That's like saying 'white people are racist' just because 1 KKK member calls me the N word!!!
THINK!!!
Take you Android bashing and just forget about signing into XDA until you get an Android device again like you said when something MAGICALLY comes about. Have fun with iOS, it's solid, it's stable, and absolutely nothing will ever go wrong with your precious iPhone 5. :good:
.... it's an issue with AMOLED screens. There's a clear reason why the "technician" probably didn't see it. That being the fact that YOU didn't even notice it until "midnight that night". It's only visible when the screen is displaying BLACK.... and at NIGHT. If it were actually an "Artifact" as you put it, it would have some sort of adverse affect on the display quality.... which it does not. I have noticed these blotches at night. But instead of googling it and reading that it does happen and thinking "Oh, this phone sucks cause there's this stuff that other people seem to have", i actually read more into it and found out WHAT it was. It doesn't affect the screen in any way.... and is only visible on a solid black color, at night. Which is funny, cause a lot of the people posting about it don't exactly seem "Disappointed", as you put it, but more curious as to why they're there, and if they could be a potential issue or not..... which they're not.
If it were something that affected the functionality or the display quality, i could see being "disappointed in Samsung".... but this is just ridiculous. I've had an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4 before switching to Android. I don't see why in the hell anybody would willingly switch iOS from Android. Apple designs excellent hardware.... i'll give them that. But iOS seriously needs an overhaul... not just a new feature or two added every year that's been around on other platforms (and not just Android) for YEARS.

Exactly. I'm looking at a black screen on my S3 right now, no ink spots, but at night and on a COMPLETELY black screen, I can see a few, but it doesn't bother me.
Also, enjoy your non working maps, anodized aluminum that chips from nothing, screen flickering, and your now AMAZING 4x5 [email protected][email protected]!11
LOL I will never understand people who get heated over Android vs iPhone, even when this thread is not a comparison.
You all don't think ink spots are a problem, then that's ok. For me, it's unacceptable, even if its only at night. It's not just on black screens, it's on anything as dark as the deep blue in settings. If its a common problem with AMOLED screens, then it's too bad.
And ps: google maps has a fully functional web app that is identical to what was the native maps app LOL.
I think I hear your moms calling you upstairs for lunch
So far every Samsung phone I had also had black spots on the screen its just how Samsung produces there screens but I would not swap out my phone just because of some black spots that you could only see in midnight and iPhone is a piece of **** u made a mistake !

Ok.... fine.... it's visible on very dark colors..... at night. WOOOOOO! if you're that nit-picky, i'd hate to see how you are with other products. Must suck to see you picking out a monitor..... backlight bleed must really get your panties in a bunch against the manufacturer of the display.
I'm sure the thread will be closed pretty soon.
To the OP, you got your iPhone, be happy and get on with your life. And stop being rude to other members because this may harm you in future if you ever get an Android phone. So better safe than sorry. Also, as you mentioned there were several other threads opened regarding the issues you were experiencing, you should have better put your thoughts in those threads. People get angry because you searched and found similar issues, still you opened a new one to complain about your displeasure.

Well, I guess I'm glad your problem is solved.
My Rogers S3 is just swell over here.
Having had an iphone from 2008-2012 and having used iOS since the original ipod touch in 2007, I couldn't be happier to have bought an S3.
Sounds like your beef is more with Rogers than with Samsung. I got my 32gb S3 on promo from Rogers for only $50, the 32gb iphone 5 would have been $300
The unbelievable amount of positive differences I have experienced between my old iphone 4 and the S3 is pretty astounding. I played with an iphone 5 for a bit a few days ago and yeah it just seemed... Boring to me after having had my S3 for two weeks. I really loved my iphone for years and defended it endlessly as being incredibly durable and intuitive and simple devices (which they are) but after messing with Android for a few weeks I actually now regret not making the switch sooner.

Hawken I installed io6 on my iphone 4 a few weeks ago. The Google maps "Web app" via Safari is total and utter **** in comparison to the proper Google App. It seems like you are just trying to come up with all sorts of reasons to justify your decision to impatiently dump the S3 and pay a ton of cash to get the iphone 5 because it's a mindlessly easy device to use.

New crazy announcement about the Note 7

What the heck is with all of these rumors people are spreading about the Note 7?
"I heard that the carriers are all going to throttle data speeds starting on Friday for Note 7 users" (I don't imagine they could effectively do that without individually doing that to each customer based on the IMEI of the phone that's connected to the system, and that's a metric butt-ton of work to do each one individually, and would likely violate the service agreement contract and potentially it would even violate some law?)
"I heard that some carriers are going to disable all Note 7's in 2 weeks"
"I heard that Samsung has embedded a kill switch in the firmware on the replacement Note 7"
"I heard Samsung is pushing out a covert/stealth update that you won't know has been done to your phone but will enable a kill switch function"
Well.... Wait no more... I have the TRUTH right here. This is straight from Samsung CEO who I asked to fly over to Canada so he could speak with me. He quickly hopped on his private jet and landed in my backyard to have coffee with me (Tim Horton's, naturally). Yes, his private jet has VTOL functionality, obviously.
What he told me, as we enjoyed our Tim Horton's Raspberry Truffle donuts and X-Large double double coffee, is scary. It amazed me. But I believe it, because he pinky promised it's true.
He said that starting on November 1st, Samsung is going to use the NFC hardware to communicate with the chips that it has embedded in our brains, triggering an undeniable emotional and mental desire to return our phones. He said that all Samsung devices since the original Galaxy line have had, built into them, an autonomous nano-bot that, upon the phone being used for the first time for a phone call, would come to life and crawl into the users' ear, burrowing down into the prefrontal cortex of their brain, and going into a hibernate mode. Samsung did this in case they ever had to control users of Samsung phones for any reason at all whatsoever.
He also said that anyone who tries to disable this functionality using tinfoil (because, as we all know, tinfoil naturally protects the human brain against radio signals of all types and frequencies), the phone will automatically sense the impedance mismatch in the air near the phone, and it will turn up the power on the device to the point that the tinfoil heats up, causing minor to moderate burns on the scalp, forcing the wearer to remove it. He said they have some concerns about the device not turning the power down quickly enough, and there's a small chance of it sending too much power into the brain of the user, but that this was a risk they were willing to take since it would likely be very hard to prove liability (said it would appear to have just been a regular stroke).
So everyone, you will have no choice, you will want to turn in your Note 7.
Now can we please stop spreading false rumors about what Samsung will do to the Note 7, since we now know the truth?
Hmm that's why he didn't want to come over, I didn't have Tim Horton's at home..
I heard they disabled Samsung Cloud on mine. Hasn't smoked at all....
I find this story completely fabricated.
Given the time of year you obviously would have chosen the often copied "pumkin spice donut".
Did he at least enjoy an evening Canadian whiskey on the rocks with glacier or iceberg ice before leaving???

Next time he comes over I'll make sure I send you an invite. Everyone that was present (all 18 of my personalities) received a device that allowed us to disable the chip in our minds.
Oddly enough, Dr. Oh-Hyun Kwon was using an iPhone. Said he missed the Pixel XL 128GB pre-order and his carrier screwed him over and sold the second pre-order he made to someone else.

First off, I am truly offended you would call into question the authenticity of my fictional fabricated story. Truly offensive. The microaggressions and triggers you are exhibiting are completely uncalled for.
Secondly, I haven't jumped on the "pseudo-holiday themed fried dough confectionery" bandwagon. Pumpkin spice belongs in a donut only slightly more than it belongs in my coffee. Dr. Oh-Hyun Kwon agreed, and he instead enjoyed the simplicity and peasantry of the common-man's double-double.
But yes, we followed up the evening with a wide selection of various tasty Canadian whiskies, though I secretly swapped them out for Canadian Club after we started getting drunk.
He noticed, and questioned me on it. "Kr, why you feel the need you give me the cheap whiskey? I thought we are friends?!"
I retorted "Kwon, why you feel the need to take my Note 7 back twice?! I thought we are friends?!"
He replied with a look that said, very clearly, "touché"
ha ha ha ha ha!
