Disappointed in Samsung and Rogers - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I extremely disappointed in both Samsung and Rogers, and as a result, I am back on iOS as I type this message.
I sold my S2 i9100 on Craigslist and switched from Fido to Rogers to get an S3 on a three year contract. The S3 was beautiful for the first few hours. By midnight that night, I noticed some serious artifacts on the screen (there are many posts on XDA that call these "ink spots" etc.)
I contacted the salesperson at Rogers regarding an exchange, and I was told to bring it to their technician - if he recognized the defect, I would get a new device. He couldn't see the problem! He had never heard of the problem (yeah, right!) so it would not be exchanged unless I sent it off to Samsung to have a look!
I returned the POS on buyers remorse, paying a $75 fee and got the iPhone 5 as a result.
I love the iPhone and I've had many of them in the past, too. But the Samsung problem of faulty screens is definitely a common issue and I most likely wont switch back, unless something truly game changing comes out for Android.
Rogers is terrible, aside from having a gorgeous iPhone 5 out of the deal, leaving Fido was a big mistake.
I would be very weary of purchasing an S3 if you, the reader, haven't already.
Google S3 Ink Spots, and see many disappointed s3 owners like me.

Cool story bro.

I work at a tech shop. Unfortunately they don't always update us on defects. There was a recall on sandybridge mainboards but no one notified us until after two weeks, that is just one instance.

and your point is....? you're back on ios so this whole story makes no difference at all now right? you dont have an sgs3 anymore. end of story. not sure what the point of this is.
i had 3 sgs3's in my possession at one point and didnt see any of this. i also have 6 friends with sgs3's and they dont have this. you should expect some manufacturing defects when a product is made in the hundreds of thousands dude. it just happens. you should blame that tech and yourself for not getting a replacement. you could of easily stood up to them and got a replacement. you being passive is what the problem here is.

I have two ink spots on my S3 but only when the screen is displaying BLACK. All you had to do was warranty the phone dude. And also, this is the GS3 thread, not the flipping iPhone5 thread. Oh that's right, we don't have one!!!!! I own an iPhone 4, but you don't see me coming here saying how awesome it is?!
You should have warrantied the phone.

You obviously stopped reading when you saw the word iOS and decided to post a worthless comment defending Android lol. The point is, people should be weary when purchasing the S3 and look closely. Just because you and your six friends don't see something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Even the technician couldn't see it - that doesn't mean it wasn't there. There are dozens of threads online, and XDA inpeticular, where users are very frustrated with this problem in their S3's.

This is hardly n iPhone 5 thread lol. What is with Android users getting so offended when they see the work iPhone? I've had multiple Samsung phones, I have an Asus Nexus 7, and I've had almost every iPhone to ever come out. They are both great platforms, I am sorry if seeing the work iOS makes you so salty lol

Ummm... read my post again. This has nothing to do with iPhone or android. It has everything to do with you not taking the correct route in getting the replacement. The only worthless post is this thread you created to inform others of you happiness of iOS in an android development website. Replace the phone for a new one. Its that simple. You didn't do that and you should probably take the frustration out on yourself rather than the "tech" that probably didn't care enough to really look for the issue or Samsung for the quality. This really comes down to you not taking the initiative.

Ok, maybe I should refer to it as a "different phone" due to the poor quality of the Samsung Galaxy S3 i747 I purchased. Happy? If you don't find any use for this thread, then leave it, and stop bumping it with your pointless wannabe moderator comments. Someone who is in the market for a new phone, and is considering buying this phone, might find it a little more meaningful. I for one, wish there was a lot of threads on the subject, so I could have saved myself a $75 restocking fee to bring it back, by not buying it in the first place.

Dude, you bought a bad phone out of however millions were made. Just because one phone had something wrong with it doesn't mean that you should tell people NOT to buy that phone. And besides, basing your opinion about an ENTIRE company based on one defective device is STUPID AS HELL! That's like saying 'white people are racist' just because 1 KKK member calls me the N word!!!
THINK!!!
Take you Android bashing and just forget about signing into XDA until you get an Android device again like you said when something MAGICALLY comes about. Have fun with iOS, it's solid, it's stable, and absolutely nothing will ever go wrong with your precious iPhone 5. :good:

.... it's an issue with AMOLED screens. There's a clear reason why the "technician" probably didn't see it. That being the fact that YOU didn't even notice it until "midnight that night". It's only visible when the screen is displaying BLACK.... and at NIGHT. If it were actually an "Artifact" as you put it, it would have some sort of adverse affect on the display quality.... which it does not. I have noticed these blotches at night. But instead of googling it and reading that it does happen and thinking "Oh, this phone sucks cause there's this stuff that other people seem to have", i actually read more into it and found out WHAT it was. It doesn't affect the screen in any way.... and is only visible on a solid black color, at night. Which is funny, cause a lot of the people posting about it don't exactly seem "Disappointed", as you put it, but more curious as to why they're there, and if they could be a potential issue or not..... which they're not.
If it were something that affected the functionality or the display quality, i could see being "disappointed in Samsung".... but this is just ridiculous. I've had an iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4 before switching to Android. I don't see why in the hell anybody would willingly switch iOS from Android. Apple designs excellent hardware.... i'll give them that. But iOS seriously needs an overhaul... not just a new feature or two added every year that's been around on other platforms (and not just Android) for YEARS.

Exactly. I'm looking at a black screen on my S3 right now, no ink spots, but at night and on a COMPLETELY black screen, I can see a few, but it doesn't bother me.
Also, enjoy your non working maps, anodized aluminum that chips from nothing, screen flickering, and your now AMAZING 4x5 [email protected][email protected]!11

LOL I will never understand people who get heated over Android vs iPhone, even when this thread is not a comparison.
You all don't think ink spots are a problem, then that's ok. For me, it's unacceptable, even if its only at night. It's not just on black screens, it's on anything as dark as the deep blue in settings. If its a common problem with AMOLED screens, then it's too bad.
And ps: google maps has a fully functional web app that is identical to what was the native maps app LOL.
I think I hear your moms calling you upstairs for lunch

So far every Samsung phone I had also had black spots on the screen its just how Samsung produces there screens but I would not swap out my phone just because of some black spots that you could only see in midnight and iPhone is a piece of **** u made a mistake !

Ok.... fine.... it's visible on very dark colors..... at night. WOOOOOO! if you're that nit-picky, i'd hate to see how you are with other products. Must suck to see you picking out a monitor..... backlight bleed must really get your panties in a bunch against the manufacturer of the display.

I'm sure the thread will be closed pretty soon.
To the OP, you got your iPhone, be happy and get on with your life. And stop being rude to other members because this may harm you in future if you ever get an Android phone. So better safe than sorry. Also, as you mentioned there were several other threads opened regarding the issues you were experiencing, you should have better put your thoughts in those threads. People get angry because you searched and found similar issues, still you opened a new one to complain about your displeasure.

Well, I guess I'm glad your problem is solved.
My Rogers S3 is just swell over here.

Having had an iphone from 2008-2012 and having used iOS since the original ipod touch in 2007, I couldn't be happier to have bought an S3.
Sounds like your beef is more with Rogers than with Samsung. I got my 32gb S3 on promo from Rogers for only $50, the 32gb iphone 5 would have been $300
The unbelievable amount of positive differences I have experienced between my old iphone 4 and the S3 is pretty astounding. I played with an iphone 5 for a bit a few days ago and yeah it just seemed... Boring to me after having had my S3 for two weeks. I really loved my iphone for years and defended it endlessly as being incredibly durable and intuitive and simple devices (which they are) but after messing with Android for a few weeks I actually now regret not making the switch sooner.

Hawken I installed io6 on my iphone 4 a few weeks ago. The Google maps "Web app" via Safari is total and utter **** in comparison to the proper Google App. It seems like you are just trying to come up with all sorts of reasons to justify your decision to impatiently dump the S3 and pay a ton of cash to get the iphone 5 because it's a mindlessly easy device to use.

We need the ATT users to stand up

Is it it a dog for you is it not.
Kind of regrettably, I Started a post. Is ATT Tilt2 a Dog.
I really felt this.
I had recently upgraded my ATT Tilt (original (1)),Tilt1 if you prefer, to ATT Tilt2.
My experience was less than preferable.
While others suggested that I would be happier with another ROM, Black Berry, or (ugh,UGH, can not put in bigger caps) iPhone. I have worked with Windows Mobile, as well as others on this board, before it was a phone.
I think I was issued, initially a piece of crap.
Because of my response to this I had to take some crap.
get some, give some.
My equipment, ATT Tilt2, purchased from Walmart/Lets Talk on Black Friday 2009.
How are you doing?
In love with mine
I was about to post in your previous thread, which I found a fascinating read
I actually bought two, the other for my wife. We both, had been suffering for years, with different Palm devices. I decided on these for two reasons. . .my fat fingers just didn't work with the small keyboard buttons any longer, and it had a MS OS. Like you, have been dealing with MS since DOS5. I knew what I was in for and, I knew I could tweak it. Already using Total Commander and cleanRAM. It's was a little advanced for my wife until I insisted she READ THE MANUAL. She also had an older (Cingular) SIMM. Once we had it changed out even she responded with a "wow, what a difference". We both love our Tilt2s.
Have been reading here for a week and will prolly read for a couple more before I break something I need an assist with. I've been with AT&T since 97. I hate them, but like the last female at 2:00am, there easy to deal with, so I keep renewing.
Looking forward to reading more of your posts

Thank you.
After a couple of months and a final equipment failure, ATT shipped, and I received today a replacement.
I am avoiding, if I can, adding any software soon, like tonight.
My experience so far, with replacement, has been more than I expected.
I work very hard during the week and from Friday evenings into the weekend, I really like to think less.
Before Monday, unless anyone asks about anything specific about this equipment, software, or ROM, I will be rebuilding to test all.
Good Night

I too have been with SouthWesternBell-Wireless-(Cingular) since '96 and I absolutey loved the Service I got, I used to hate how sprint had all the cool phones, I even tryed Sprint for a month awhile and kept my SWB line on just in case, it didn't take long and I Cxd. Then Cingular started coming around with good phones that competed. The Day ATT and Cingular merged is when it all fell to Crap, The service is still good, but the Customer Service is horrible, the care for what the customer wants is horrible, yes we have decent phones but they are almost outdated by the time we get them. I F'ing hate ATT , and am probably after all these years gonna switch to verizon. They deserve to lose everything they have, when they no longer care for the customer, unless you have a stupid iphony which is so easy to use, I say it's for simple minded people that wants square holes for square blocks. As far as the TILT 2, I too went from TILT1 to TILT2 , iskipped the fuse because i felt it was a rushed piece of crap. But I have very little complaints about the TILT2 , and after putting on Mobile Shell and deleteing the bloatware it runs smooth. I only hated it took so long to get it. So to Sum it Up i think the TILT2 is a very good phone if you know how to tweak it, and ATT Sucks. I wish Cingular and there Care would come back !
I pretty much agree with everyone. Came from a Tilt to a Tilt2 (no such thing as Tilt1 people) and I think it's a big improvement. Yes AT&T sucks, but I don't need them or their customer service. XDA is my customer service! The keyboard is way better and you can't complain about a bigger screen and faster processor (though it's still not fast enough, e.g. HD2). No phone really lives up to it's potential straight from the carriers except possibly Android phones. After a new ROM this phone was definitely a keeper for me. Looking forward to an HD2 or even better an HD3 when available though (1.5Ghz processor, Mmmm!).

go to this page , use file explorer and delete all listed, I didn't do the reg edits but it's had no effect at all on performance. it frees like 50mb and makes your device much faster and smoother. You don't have to delete all, also later you can hard reset and bring them all back if you'd like. I hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else.

Unlike kimtyson, I understand the point of this post... to complain about AT&T and the Tilt2. With that said, I don't know what is supposed to be accomplished by the post (unless AT&T and HTC CEOs read these threads regularly).
For what it's worth, here's my 2 cents (more like a penny). I love my Tilt2. Yeah it's slow sometimes, but the customization abilities can't be beaten thanks to the XDA members that try their best to make it faster rather than complain about it. That is the main reason why I don't have an iPhone. As for AT&T, yes they have thier downfalls (like all of the other cell phone companies do). If those downfalls are unacceptable for you, then quit complaining and change your service provider!! I have thought about leaving, but it's cheaper to stay since almost everyone I know has AT&T and the mobile-to-mobile minutes would be worthless to me elsewhere.
But that is just my humble opinion, I don't expect it to change the world or a major corporation.

When I get on a thing, sometimes my thoughts go down different paths,
so the reason for different posts.
Not a linear thinker.
At my age, mental multitasking is not as easy as it was 25yre. ago.
Still works though.
I think that Tilt2 has some, as yet undiscovered hardware issues.
Don't want to go too far with this at the moment, because, I am not entirely sure what is going on.
Didn't have to stress test replacement very long.
ATT sent a refurb, which on the face of it operated faster than the first one.
Opera 9.5 opened and browsed faster than the original.
Most other function, software operated fairly to very well.
Actually on original Tilt2, a lot of these things worked as well as I was expecting from Windows Mobile.
Replacement, though seemed much more responsive for most general things.
PocketOutlook, fast. ATT.Yahoo.Com email with Opera 9.5, fast.
Internet Explorer 6 faster, still a little slow.
I am not looking for any particular fixes from you folk as yet, just observing and reporting is all.
Long story short, if that is possible.
The piece received as a replacement, after observation was a recycle/refurbish.
Discovered after trying to fit screen protector which didn't fit.
Already had screen protector installed.
On the hardware, slide/tilt mechanism seemed loose/wobbly.
Called ATT support this morning to get some idea what I was sent.
While waiting, put phone on speakerphone/external audio.
Audio speaker phone buzzed briefly, then was silent.
Tried to move back to earphone, no audio.
Similar to most recent hard failure of original piece.
Now I have two Tilt2' with similar hardware failure on audio path.
On the failure path (original phone), for several days before complete failure the original upon receiving email requiring notification. Notification, by default, would be, short vibrate/sound.
Shortly before failure, notification became constant vibrate.
Only stopped by shut-down/restart.
This morning replacement began to fail in the same way, coincident with the other audio/hardware trouble.
I appreciate that you folks are fix it folk.
I am not necessarily wanting to be short with anyone, as far as offering fixes.
Maybe I had not explained myself well enough earlier.
Not necessarily wanting a fix from you for my self.
Just exposing an issue.
I ask the same questions also when trying to trouble shoot equipment problems.
"Is it plugged in Mam/Sir?", sometimes will sound condescending to a customer who call for help.
For the dog lovers, I love and feel close to my pets also.
Sorry.
I am going to try to pull these threads together

I ask the same questions also.
The only issue i've faced with my tilt 2 is the volume up/down buttons became dislodged then i dropped it one time and they got back in place but now my volume up button doesn't push back, but still works so doesn't bother me that much.
I guess your just having really bad luck. If you bought a new device and received a refurb with the same or worse issues, call back and explain to them that you need a new device because you paid for a new device thats supposed to work, not a refurb replacement.

The piece received as a replacement, after observation was a recycle/refurburbish.
Discovered after trying to fit screen protector which didn't fit.
Already had screen protector installed.
On the hardware, slide/tilt mechanism seemed loose/wobbly.

... cool story, bro..

Why do so many people complain so much...

I've had a lot of phones and sold a lot as well. Just recently selling my Photon so that I can grab the Epic Touch. This phone is amazing, but everytime I go to a forum it's always a posts complaining of screen colors, data speeds, screen size etc.
I'm so tired of this stuff it's ridiculous. True this phone has some some flaws like the inability to connect to the media hub right now, but that's minor and I'm sure it'll get fixed. But the threads where people is posting the issues that I stated above, have been talked about forever. And for the complaining of the screen size, everyone knew how big the phone was before it was released and some people even had the chance to play with the phone before actually buying the phone and they still bought it, only to complain later that it's too big or to complain about a another minor issue. Hell, it's even been reviews posted all over youtube from various people. and people still bought the phone...wtf.
As for the data issue, I'm suer people is coming from other devices on sprint, so the data speeds shouldnt be a suprise. In addition, Sprint is working on numerous towers so this could affecting the data speeds.
Then people are complaining about screen color and all that stuff. It takes a very bored person that has nothing to do in life to do than to look and stare at phone screens just to find out the white aren't white, the black colors aren't black enought etc. These are phones...not computers, not Plasma TV's.
All in all, it seem to me that a lot of people is just looking to find something wrong with this phone. It's like they hating on the phone. It's a great phone so people should just deal with it. I know everybody have their own opinions and its cool. But if you go to Evo forums, the Epic Forums..any sprint android phone forum, its the same threads everywhere...data speeds, screen colors...etc.
Lets stop it all and just enjoy this beast of a phone....
Sorry for the rant
And you complain people complaining?
I have not seen people comlain much about this phone, you are not exaggerating are you?
I had EVO 3D I've seen worst.
I agree with justwonder, seems pretty mild to me. It's only natural for people to put the phone through its paces when they get it, it is afterall a 20 month decision and that's fine.
People are more likely to complain than compliment.

Yeah...you're right ..a 20 month decision. But within that 20 month decison and since this will be a 2 year agreement for most of us, did research and watched reviews of the Galaxy S II before we made the final decison.
It's similiar to buying a car. You do research on it before you go out and buy it.

as was already said compared to what the E3D forum went through this is so mild as to have not even registered on my radar whatsoever. I know there have been a few "this one thing isn't perfect" or "this thing is broken on mine" posts and threads...but...not the onslaught of complaints, valid or not, that you make it seem like. I have not even given it a thought. I also expect them to die down in the next few weeks. Go check in on the E3D forum for a few hours, you'd think the phone came out 12 hours ago from the looks of things, 3 months later.
The phone just came out, frankly it seems like the least bugs and complaints I've ever seen on a rollout of such an anticipated phone.

But those comlaints help people research better than those review sites.
Before I bought EVO 3D, I knew exactly what flaws the phone has, because of people complaining, you wouldn't find that in those review website.
So let people complaining, it would help other decide it's a deal breaker or not...
OP: Dude its not ridiculous....that's what forums are for.
Don't tell other people they're ridiculous when they "complain" about things they're frustrated with or don't understand cause THATS what ruins forums.
Think I said this but that's what forums are for.
There are and will be solutions to improve a lot of what you think are ridiculous complaints.
Just don't go to those threads if you can't offer something constructive...no worries.

Buy Now or Wait for 4.0.5

Hi,
I currently have the D3, my third Droid phone and was looking at the Verizon Nexus. From many threads here and on the Verizon forums, some seems to have significant problems with this phone. I know the forums usually tend to have a lot more user complaints.
My use is about 2500 min/mo on the phone and I use it throughout the day for email, browsing, maps, etc. The blogs and other reviews tend to be favorable. So, would you buy this phone again, wait for 4.0.5, or just look at something else?
I'm also considering the Razr Maxx but Motorola is so slow in getting updates to its phones, if at all, I"m hesitant to get a 4th Motorola Droid. And, there's always the iphone4S...
I always wonder if companies are paying people to post messages like these on competitors forums and then I remember reading that they in fact do just that.
Should I do you wrong with that assumption mgerbasio, I politely suggest less asking and more reading on this forum.
I would buy this phone again. With Verizon you do have choice. The updates unfortunately for the GNex on Verizon will not be coming with lightning speed either. The Razr Max is a good alternative but I would not get anything now without ICS. Who knows when the update will come.

I just got my Verizon gnex last week and am enjoying it so far. It does tend to get a weaker network signal than my Droid Charge did but still works everywhere the charge did. Minus that I have no other issues yet and based off my small usage so far would recommend it. I also compared it to the Razr but I just like Samsung phones better in general.
Wow, thanks for the fast replies.
I wish someone would pay me for posting in forums, but no, just trying to get some information. If you're new to this phone and read the first several pages here and at Verizon (especially), you get a sense that maybe this phone isn't quite ready for prime time. Yet, the reviews and blogs have been favorable.
I'm not that concerned that the updates are delayed a month, but with non-Nexus phones, you're lucky to see any major OS update. Motorola has terrific hardware but they have no policy about updates and customer communication is POOR with no follow through. My D3 probably won't get ICS and it is less than a year old. Had the Razr received ICS as rumored this week, I would have gone with that phone.
My D3 performs OK but I had to get rid of the live wallpaper and most of the widgets so it is reasonably responsive. I'm sure if I root and delete the bloat it would be better. The D4 battery is too small for me so just looking around right now.
Well I'll have 14 days to try it so maybe I'll give it a shot.
I also have this phone for a about a week now it has some issues that annoy me like the keyboard word input lag and signal strength but am sure its all software issues which will be fix soon. At this point I dont even care what phone comes out am satisfied.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
The only issue i have is its pentile, which a sfw update cant fix...so i have no signal issues
If you like android, I wouldn't leave for an iPhone. I think you'll regret it. Outside of that, I can't offer any other suggestions because I haven't decided myself what to pull the trigger on. I'm stuck between the rezound and the gnex. Or the incredible 4G if it does actually drop this month. And assuming it actually has a bigger battery. But I do know that a couple of demos in the store that I played with had major "burn in", if that's what it's called, and I don't know how, or if that is frequent. That does kinda bother me though.

Amoled screens do get image retention a lot but it fades after just a few seconds of changed screen. Like burn in in that you can see the previous screen but goes away quickly, are you sure this isn't what you saw? I have personally never seen one with actual burn in.
I didn't play with them long enough for them to change, but it was clearly visible over the screen I was on. So it does go away? Not like the old plasma tvs that were permanently "burnt"?
Pentile screen doesn't bother me, I really like the screen on my Motorola D3 which is pentile, it is very readable indoors and outdoors even in bright sunlight.
I'd rather not get the iphone but I wouldn't rule it out. I had the original ipad, then bought the Xoom, now have the ipad3. I'd much rather have android but the screen on the ipad3 makes all the other limitations something I can live with. The iphone screen will probably be too small though. The D3 gets very laggy with widgets and live wallpaper so now my screen has mostly icons and I'm thinking if this is the case, I may as well have nice looking icons like a iphone.
If I was going to wait, it would be for the Droid Fighter.
Thanks again, I'm planning on heading to my local Verizon store on Monday to pick up the Nexus.

What if Apple wins?

I got a new red s3 a few days ago and other than not being able to check for ot updates, I really like it. However, I have one big concern that has me wondering if maybe I should swap it out for a One X ($79.88 at wal mart). If Apple ends up winning the court case against Samsung, what will happen as far as future updates/upgrades/support? If Apple wins, apparently th s3 will be banned from future sales. And since they have already taken the local search function away, what other features are we likely to lose just to appease Apple?
Samsung and Apple will battle in court for the foreseeable future. The sgiii isn't going to get barred from being sold, at least not for any significant amount of time.

I got mine
Apple already put a stop to sales of one of Samsung's tablets. The s3 is next on their list. But I already have one so that part doesn't concern me. What does concern me is support for the s3 if Samsung is banned from selling it. It is hard to imagine them supporting a product that they can't sell. Plus, if the software is also banned (local search), will they even be able to support it if they want to?
Umm they really don't have anything to go after the SGS3 for. It is not rectangular, it does not have uniform corners, and TouchWiz does not look like iOS, so what could the possible ban it for?
I know
I feel the same way. But you know how it is. I couldn't believe that Samsung took away the local search but they did. Apparently, pretty much everything from the icons to the touch screen is copied from Apple. But the s3 with its physical home button is the first Android powered phone to outsell the iPhone. Therefore it must go. Like I said, Apple got the Nexus tablet banned because it was too much like the iPad. I just don't want to be stuck with a phone that is constantly being stripped down bit by bit or completely removed from the market and nit supported at all. It's funny, though. The Apple TV sure looks like a Samsung to me. I wonder if Samsung will sue Apple?

You are on xda, you shouldnt worry about that. Devs here will do everything to add features back. atleast the common sense ones.
Even if something as far-fetched as banning the S3 does occur, I doubt that they would simply just stop supporting a device that sold over 10 million units.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
I mean really, Apple does not have nothing to stop the SGS3. The phone was designed to avoid being stopped by Apple. and even then, if they try to stop it via software, they cant, because all it takes is a software patch. hence the Galaxy Nexus.
When it comes down to it, Apple is scared. Android is light years better and they know it. They know that Google made an OS to rival theirs and did it better. So, if you can't beat the competition, then sue (sp.) their butt off! Apple will ALWAYS be a fanboy market...meaning all the die-hard robots that will do/buy whatever Apple tells them too. Meanwhile, Google will keep innovating and making their mobile OS truely the best on the market today.
ahh the beauty of living in canada us patents dont apply here! yippee! never have to worry about any of these stupid lawsuits. :good:
though even if they win, they cant really touch the sgs iii, apple is mainly targeting older samsung phones which imo did blatantly copy apple (talking about like the galaxy s originaly) , they have changed a lot since those days. id be surprised if they had any dirt on the siii.
They are scared of Samsung itself. They know that Samsung copied the iPhone, and lets be honest here, they copied the dam iPhone, but they produced a product a million times better than the iPhone.
Samsung has some great technology, which is why its one of Apple's "Key Partners". I have owned three Samsung devices in the last year and they all were really good. Samsung has what it takes, but it is being limited by Apple. Why do you think the SGS3 is so ugly looking? To avoid Apple and its lawsuits.

Apple deserves to win this case. Look at the points and cases they are bringing up against the Galaxy S 1. The UI was completely ripped off of them. In addition, Samsung's lawyers are a bunch of jackasses in court (read the Verge if you dont know what Im talking about). Now... some of the new patents Apple is getting are utter bull****. I was pissed when they tried to ban the GNex because of the search patent .

Guys you cant ban something that already has tens of millions in the wild. Apple is definitely worried, because Steve only left them so much on his notes he kept and the iphone train is going to run out of steam after the next 2 iphones you mark my words, that is all he left them.
Buy another phone if you want, nothing in life is certain, but I would not worry one minute and use the phone you want now. Its already the best thing out there as is, once JB rolls out its a done deal. They have a removable battery and SD slot, doesnt sound like an iphone clone to me...And who cares if they ban the S1, its a totally different phone and old as hell to boot, it aint gonna happen. They must stop it before its released or it just doesnt work.

Why do you need support from Samsung? Just root and install custom roms, my old HTC Hero on Telus took over a year to get an update from 1.6 to eclair, but by then I was already running a custom rom.
I didn't mean to start an apple vs Samsung vs one x discussion. Honestly, I am amazed at how far mobile phones have come since I got my first Motorola Star Tac when I was in the military. I am just concerned about the future of my s3 in the event that apple wins in court. That said, I can see where apple is coming from. However, without competition from other manufacturers, there will be very few more advancements in the industry. Especially if every time someone produces a product that may or may not be better than apple, apple sues that company into submission. Imagine how it would be if car companies did the same thing. Or even something as simple as clothes detergent. My concern is not whether or not Samsung "will" support the s3 but whether not they will be able to due to restrictions placed on them by the courts that may prevent them from having the ability to support and improve on the s3

ALL Note 7 will be bricked by early 2017. Some earlier.

https://www.extremetech.com/mobile/241190-major-us-carriers-agreed-brick-remaining-note-7-devices
I agree with this. I know that the holdouts who haven't replaced their note sevens love their phone but it's irresponsible to keep a phone that could potentially cause harm to innocent bystanders as well and it's really their duty to turn in such a defective device like they've been asked many times. There are several promos and even rumors of a free upgrade so there's no excuse for having a note 7 in your possession and holding out and still using it when it's obviously caused injury and forced planes to land etc etc well now you're going to have to or you'll own a brick. Don't get caught with no service I'd trade in soon...it's happening like it or not. Just saying. Don't shoot the messenger.
Here we go again. Who gives you the right to say what someone should or should not do with their phone? My Samsung washer was recalled and I got no notice about it, even though I have an extended protection plan on it. Lowes never called, Samsung never called, nobody. And these machines actually do EXPLODE!
I have got recalls for my BRAND NEW CAR and yet nobody attempted to disable it. How about exploding airbags? I did not see any companies limiting your fuel tank to 60%.
This whole thing has been a complete mess. The fact that most of these incidents were not even 100% verified and the fact that people actually withdrew their reports speaks volumes. Also, Samsung still has not been able to replicate this issue. I have seen stories about S7 Edges melting and iPhones as well. Fact of the matter is, this was the media taking something which was nothing and creating a firestorm. You do not have to look much further than this election and the crazy amount of FAKE NEWS going around to realize it. My suggestion is to stop posting threads about this and let people make their OWN decisions.
Meh. Doubt it.

Here we go again. Who gives you the right to say what someone should or should not do with their phone? My Samsung washer was recalled and I got no notice about it, even though I have an extended protection plan on it. Lowes never called, Samsung never called, nobody. And these machines actually do EXPLODE!

I honestly could care less. I have blocked all updates. If they want to start blocking IMEI in the US, I will just spoof it.

I wont come to this thread again.
OP you did not do anyone a favor by posting this. Now go delete your forum account, at very least stop coming to the note 7 section.

I do not get why people insist on making these threads. It is like they are trying to play some sort of role as overseer of returning note 7's. I am holding onto mine. I will guarantee this phones value will skyrocket due to rarity and there are tech nerds out there who will want one for their collection.

Blocking it may or may not work....Good luck...Especially the minute you soft brick it and are screwed because no one supports it. Don't say you weren't warned.
I didn't make this for that reason at all. I simply made it so people who still have them know it's very possible it could be deactivated by their carrier is all. Nothing more. I agree with it personally but certainly don't wish anyone without a phone they paid for but they are a dangerous fire hazard but definitely didn't start it just to rub it in anyone's face whatsoever. I've been around here for many years and a simple read the story a day or so ago and started Googling it and it seems it's going to happen much sooner than I thought. I hope that if peeps find away around not getting the update and it works that their's doesn't explode, or injure anyone sure of course....but I DO feel for them too if they do get forced to upgrade or shall I say switch to another device. I've had every Note there is and the day I went to get a N7 they were sold out so I had to wait a week and then all this started the same week so I simply didn't upgrade from my S7 Edge or I'd be in the same boat.

I* agree innocent people have got hurt, it's not cool to hold onto something that can injure and burn possibly cause deaths...when there's a nationwide hell, worldwide pretty much recall on something I feel it's the responsible thing to do and follow the methods of switching devices but some don't feel that way so they in turn decide to take the chance but that chance could very possible injure someone else too like say if one exploded and caught something on fire that hurt innocent people which may have happened already but I think it's been more personal injuries as of yet, leg burn from it being in pocket etc.
And I'm, just posting what I read, it's not to rub in anyone's face. Anyone who knows me from XDA knows I'm not that type of person whatsoever. This is simply to let people know that a change is coming that will be forced on them if they have a Note 7 still....they can take that for what they want.

What I would like to know is, if WIFI is disabled, and I do not have a SIM card in it, is Samsung/T-Mobile (or whoever is doing it) still able to brick my phone? The reason I ask is, I already moved on to the S7 Edge, but like to keep the Note 7 for other stuff, that does not require internet access of any sort.
Thanks,
G
If anyone has a note 7 they want to sell PM me. I'll gladly clone my imei over from my S7.
And what is to stop someone from simply root blocking this update exactly?
Can someone please answer my question?!
Thanks.

No, since your phone is disconnected network and internet.

I honestly hope that samsung already sent the update to all of those devices and the update will activate itself on some random date and brick their devices.
Seriously people, samsung gave You all a chance to get a new device + extra money, and You said no?
This is how it looks like:
Samsung: hey! Here, have a brand new s7 edge + free money!
You: Nope. I'll keep my device and eventually one day it will explode and I'll burn to death while sleeping .
I'm a note lover too. And if I had to return my device I wouldn't do it straight away either. But once they completely recall those phones and then start to DISABLE them. Then it's turn to take Your device back to samsung and change to a different device, while You still can(hopefully) do it for free instead of paying for a new one later.
What's even worse? No updates. No Nougat. S8 Edge will come soon. And Note 7 will become a old not so powerful anymore device.
And don't try to sell it to someone.
I saw one guy trying to sell his Note 7 and claiming that this one won't explode. Guess what. After contacting Samsung, the next day his account was gone(probably disabled temporarily). He wanted to sell it for 2x the price.

This way probably no. But You'll end up with a Samsung IPod.

Not worth it. You'll end up with a disabled device one day anyway. And even if You will somehow disable the updates (the internal ones that come out of nowhere(not ota)) then it's still not worth it. S8 will come out soon and beat Note 7 + Nougat.
And to all people who will keep their devices no matter what.
I guess it's fine. If they didn't explode so far they most likely won't explode anyway. Tbh it is kinda mean to disable recalled devices in a such way. Like just taking away updates and pushing annoying notifications is enough. And Samsung knows that if they didn't explode till now they won't explode.
So F You Samsung. But other than that think about that it still could explode in a elevator and kill You and other people.
And no guys. It's not a WWII historical item to keep it and show it to Your grandsons later. It's just a phone.
*Never mind, not worth the debate*
