GPS acquisition times... - Sony Smartwatch 3

Hi Guys
Got my new Smartwatch 3 today but impossible to have a GPS acquisition.
Connected in BT to the phone, MyTracks app start from the watch but once disconnected, the app launch but won't start: no starting clock when clicking the red button on the watch.
Tried outside during 15mn and impossible to start MyTracks when clicking on the red button.
In developper mode / manufacterer, i can't see any GPS information: only have
Accelerometer, Gyro, Magnetometer, Vibrator, Ambient light sensor, Compass, Touch, Product id, Step counter.
Tried to restart, tried to reset the smartwatch but always no GPS acquisition.
Is there an icon when GPS is activated ?
Smartwatch software: 4.4.W.1
Build week 42
BUILD KKW60C
Android wear: 1.0.5.1630507
Thanks

IN my case there is GPS (last entry) and within 30sec I get a lock (it gives long/lat and altitude)....
However, I am on SW version: 4.4W.2....does this explain why you cannot see the gps?

I agree that its your software version. GPS was not supported on the version of android wear that was shipped with the watch. 4.4W.2 is the latest, at least until we get lollipop in a few days.
In my experience on the build with GPS support, if the watch is connected to phone at all, GPS is useless. If I disconnect it, it works and locks on in 30s to 2 mins.

:good: Many thanks... but my SW3 doesn't update to 4.4W.2 even with the reset/unpair trick seen on Youtube
Reset the watch
While the watch is resetting, unpair watch in phone via bluetooth settings
Uninstall and re-install the Android Wear app
Pair normally
Once paired on watch, before even doing tutorial, go to Settings and check for updates

Try Sony PC companion

Finally updated 2 days ago in 4.4W.2 after reading your [Guide] Soft unbrick/reflash stock firmware
Power Off the SW3 normally
Download and install PC Companion
click on "Support Zone", it will be downloaded,
click on "Accessories software update" and then you can choose SmartWatch 3 and PC Companion App waiting for a SW3 connected in USB
Start the SW3 by a long press on the power button until an image saying "connect USB"
Connect the SW3, the driver will be automatically installed.
Sony Companion App will detect that an update is available i.e 4.4W.2
Download start and the SW3 is updated in less than 5mn
This morning updated automatically in 5.0W.1
My GPS is fully functionnal and acquisition times : from 15 to 30 sec :good:

Hello,
I've a problem with my SW3. The GPS doesn't work at all in offline mode (Mytracks, Runkeeper...). No problem in online mode, with my phone.
What is weird is that it has sometimes worked before. So I decided to uninstall just a few applications, in vain. Then all, in vain. So I tried to reinstall SW3 software (5.01) with PC Companion 2 but it didn't change anything.
I tried to obtain GPS signal for around 30 minutes many times, in vain. My localisation is obviously activated. I tried in airplane mode on and off.
Do I have a defective sample ? What would you suggest ?
After that I reinitialised the SW3, it seems to work fine outside. So I guess that I had an application compatibility issue.
Thanks

Have you looked at sony's developer apps? Go to settings, tap about, tap the build number 7 times (will tell you developer mode activated), swipe away the about screen, scroll to the bottom, choose developer options, scroll to the bottom, choose manufacturer menu-launcher.
Run the gps one. If you are outside and don't get any satellites (see the last line), I'm guessing you've got a bad watch.

Thanks for the tips. It worked perfectly well. 5 satellites in my room, with my arm outside the window. And my position is correct.
I guess I had an application compatibility issue. I will install each application alone to identify the faulty one.
Do you know how I turn of the developper mode ?
Thanks a lot !

Reset the watch? AFAIK there's no harm in leaving it on, it just shows the dev options in the menu.

Sony Ericsson LiveView™ Issues

Hey is there anyone out there also having strange connection issues on Sony Ericsson's LiveView ?
I'm running a HTC Hero with the latest cyanogenmod.
I can pair the device in the setting. The display always just displays 0:00 AM.
when i try to connect in the software it always is listed as disconnected. when i try do build a connection from liveview side (upper left button) it's showing an animation that it's connecting to the phone. the led on the top left starts turning green, then the display freezes and it falls back to displaying 0:00 AM (and not being connected).
when i tap on the listed device in the software (guessing that you connect it that way) the second line saying "disconnected" disapears for a bit, around 5 sec., and then comes back as disconntected.
i once but only once managed to get it working somehow. DON'T ASK HOW, MAGIC, Star constalation, nobody knows, i randomly hit connect on both sides and it turned out to work that one time.
when working the time display on liveview show the actual time on the phone the display and you get all the notifications you could wish for. But at some point i had to reboot and it work never again =(
i had in mind that the my bluetooth headset (also sony ericsson, mw600 nice piece btw., loving it) might intervene somehow but it worked nicly, both at the same time.
please does anyone have an idea?!
really getting frustrated, had such high hopes in that device and really was looking forward to write some cool apps and plugins for it but now ...
First off where did you buy it?
it will release on November 19th in UK .. How did you get it ?
I was thinking the same

Bet five bucks, it's some kind of Chinese clone.
Got it from phonehouse, ordered it from the German page got it instantly. So i guess no help just yet ;(. And se support isn't that supporting at all

feel free to order it from

got mine since yesterday, bought on phonehouse website in France.
Several issues for me to , on HTC Desire / Froyo 2.2 non rooted
I didnt fond any trouble to connect it to my phone but then :
First day of use : several crashes and slow down of my phone
forced to remove the battery of the phone... bad feeling
Second day of use : Left physical button is no more responding !!!
(my device falled down from my desk, 1 meter high...I wonder if it comes from this)
Impossible to empty the liveview's cache, even if the application says "all notifications are now removed" they still are in the device memory...got almost 200 since yesterday.
what is working now ? :
all facebook & twitter notifications, calls history, RSS, volume up, volume down.
I didnt received sms yet so i cannot tell, and track seeking does not work.
I wrote to SE about my left button who doesnt work any more...
My order should be here on Monday. Can't wait
Same big problems as above.
I had already posted this in another thread before finding this one.
I am in Paris, bought it on Phonehouse.fr (59 eur w/ free shipping).
- I'm on a HTC Desire Orange FR with Android 2.1
- there are 2 apps to be downloaded from the Android store: LiveWare manager (this seems to manage the connection and the plugins) and LiveView (the actual tool to manage the device).
- the pairing is immediate (in Android's Setting / Wireless / BT) but not the connection, and somehow I got to it only after random manipulations and attemps.
- but the device connectivity from LiveView software comes and goes randomly. When I managed to get it to work it stayed on for about 1 hour. Then I went to the toilet, lots BT connection, came back, no way to restablish it now.
- I've NOT found a repeatable way to connect to the device. Several times the LiveView software crashes, or it severely slows down the phone to the point where only removing the battery could save me.
- I had time to test call and sms notifications from phone to device, however all actions from device to Phone did not seem to work, or they even make LiveView hang. This concerns the music player controls (not working at all), and some feature where from the device you should be able to display the lost calls list on the phone display (but as I said - it hangs the LiveView manager).
Update.
I suspect some problem with the phone Bluetooth software.
Now I cannot make the phone discoverable anymore - tapping the "discoverable" checkbox in the BT settings does not work. Tapping 3-4 times makes the phone hang: it reboots, but it becomes extremely slow and laggish. Battery removal needed.
SE stated on their webpage (though they removed that, only a * marks this) that music control is not compatible with Desire. Sad thing.

That must be it. At least I found out the volume control works (media volume only), but not the play/stop/next/prev track.
LiveView hanging
On Galaxy S with Eclair. Paired and connected OK. SMS alert worked fine. After quarter of an hour though LiveView hanging. I might had tried to get to the home tile and kept select button pressed which could have tried to start the music player, not sure nor intended.
Left button Green LED on at all times, screen of LiveView shows green Sony Ericsson logo. Cannot get LiveView to do anything. I am hoping it'll run out of battery and reboot! Trying to pair with it after phone reboot unsuccessful.

Managed to bring it back to life. Had to hold left button pressed for a looong time till eventually (20sec or more) screen powered off. Then reset via holding left button pressed for 8s+ as per troubleshooting instructions.
cpu goes wild
Huge problems with LiveView on Galaxy S with Froyo.
Aside from dropping connection a lot, it periodically renders the phone unusable requiring a reboot.
top shows btld consuming 90 - 110% of the cpu:
Code:
3354 94% S 11 20820K 1152K fg bluetoot /system/bin/btld
[Q] LiveView
It says on the specs it requires Bluetooth 2.1, my phone has Bluetooth 3, will it work?

Does GPS work yet?

Hey guys,
So Ive recently aquired and about to return if its defective, my smartwatch 3. I was certain it can do a standalone GPS, but now im wondering if it cant due to software limitations that hopefuly be patched, or is it actually just a lemon?
Ive installed Wear GPS and it finds 0/0 sattelites, even when the phone GPS is on and nearby the watch, in which case all running apps has GPS on the watch too, as long as the phone's in range..
In the Watch Settings I turned on GPS. makes no difference if its off or on actually, still works if the phone's nearby.
any suggestions?
GPS is working, try Ghostracer or Endomondo. They both work well but Ghostracer is loaded with features.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Just clarifying the GPS should function even when disconnected from the phone, correct? Thanks. Prone.
Yes it works. connected or disconnected from the phone.
but the GPS function itself is still buggy,
more information about the gps issue - find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch-3/help/erratic-gps-t3088179
Erratic is better than statically dead. Flat line 0 GPS signal as soon as phone is disconnected.. RMA or wait for patch? If I understand than even if I get replacement the GPS function is useless at this stage...? Thanks, Prone
RMA.
because the feature itself works normally. (erratic not dead)
I'll take you guys word's for it then.. Cause sony is either totally lying or totally stupid:
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia Support.
We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the GPS location services on your SmartWatch 3.
With regards to your inquiry, when your SmartWatch 3 is disconnected from your phone or tablet, you can still use some basic features. Since voice commands no longer work after disconnection, you must tap the screen to navigate your SmartWatch 3 and confirm actions.
In standalone mode, you can still do the following:
•View the time and date.
•Set an alarm.
•Use the stopwatch.
•Use the timer.
•View your agenda for the current day.
•Listen to music saved on your SmartWatch 3 with a connected Bluetooth® headset.
•Keep a record of your outdoor activities.
•View your step count.
•Change the watch face.
•Turn Airplane mode on or off.
Note! Some of the features described above require the download and installation of the relevant applications, for example, a music player app or a fitness training app.
Therefore, unfortunately you cannot use the GPS function when your SmartWatch 3 is disconnected from your phone.
If you are experiencing issues with GPS location, check if the location is turned on on your SmartWatch 3.
To turn on location on SmartWatch 3:
1.Tap the home screen, then swipe upwards.
2.Find and tap Settings > Location.
3.If the location is set to Off, press Location. Then press the green circle with “check” mark to enable Location.
Tips to improve the GPS signal when using SmartWatch 3:
•Remove the main unit from the wrist band and clean away any moisture that has built up around the unit or the wrist band to improve the GPS signal.
•Wear your SmartWatch 3 on the outside of your wrist so that your SmartWatch 3 has the best line of sight with GPS satellites.
•Make sure you have a clear and unobstructed view of the sky. For example, while wearing your SmartWatch 3, make sure that your view is not blocked by trees or tall buildings.
•Before you start to move around, stand still to allow your SmartWatch 3 to pick up a signal from the relevant GPS satellites.
Furthermore, due to the fact that Sony SmartWatch 3 was not officially released on the Israeli market, our official service center in Israel unfortunately cannot provide you with service of the device. We suggest you to contact the original seller for more information.
Should you require any further assistance please contact us again via email at [email protected]. For more information on our products, services and support please visit www.sonymobile.com.
Please be aware that if you do not respond within 7 days of this email your query will be automatically closed. Any further communications will not reach our support and a new query will need to be raised.

Whos bull****ting here? Either way im gunna bother and have no SW3 for a while till it gets RMA'd I suppose.. i actually hoped this is a patch thing.
Sony is totally stupid. I use GhostRacer every day standalone, no problems (and the GPS honestly tracks just fine). Its true that there aren't any real stock apps that use it, but it works offline all the same..
Hi
I have exactly the same problem
Here we are, over a year later, and I'm still having this same problem. Has anyone figured anything out with this? I bought my SW3 refurbished, and didn't realize there was a problem with it until the 30 limited warranty expired. I don't really know what I can do at this point. It's really frustrating, as it seems like too many people have this issue for it to just be a fluke.

Bluetooth disconnections and unpairing driving me to distraction

My issue seems to be different from others' as mine isn't just bluetooth losing its connection - it actually unpairs.
In my car (it has an Android Auto compatible infotainment system) it works fine for ages then fails to connect all of a sudden. Then after a while a message pops up on the car's screen saying "bluetooth pairing successful". The phone then asks me for contact sharing permissions. Of course it screws up the smart unlock feature as a result forcing me to set it up again.
On my Huawei watch 2 sport it loses connection and so the wear os app says the watch is disconnected. Bluetooth settings show the watch to be invisible and, as a result, smart unlock gets unconfigured and I have to set it up again. The watch battery discharges very quickly - probably constantly searching for the phone.
I reboot of both devices seems to fix it, for a while.
This is all since the Pie official update.
Does anyone have any fixes please?

No fixes but same problems here
I'm having the same issue also very frequently with WiFi dropping all the time. These two reasons are linked from what I been told. Google telling me to RMA. The pain of that
Mine has done this with my Gear S3 watch since I first got the phone a few months ago, it had me seriously considering returning it for a while. Sometimes it would just disconnect from the bluetooth, but often it would unpair causing me to have to go through the whole set up process again. It did this on Android O, various DP builds of P but so far (touch wood) has been good with the latest version of the Samsung software and Android P.
I'm having the same issues as well and currently searching for answers.

Disable Android Auto

I have a OnePlus 7 pro phone, with Android 10, and my car is has an XTRONS head unit running the Malaysk rom with Android 9.
Does anyone know how to disable android auto from starting every time I connect via Bluetooth? None of the posts (solutions) online work, or are even available for me to try (menus aren't there, etc.).
Help?!
how did you even get it to work via bluetooth to start with!
Great question! I didn't do anything specifically to enable it. But every time I Bluetooth connect to my head unit, it starts Android Auto on my phone. DRIVING ME NUTS.
Is this a OnePlus-specific feature?
In XTRONS the Android Auto is called MultiPlay. There is a way to disable MultiPlay. settings -- car -- Factory settings(126) -- other -- car play --Choose "no"--apply-- Exit -> reboot by holding rst hardware button for 10s.

Ok, could be, but in my Xtrons headunit it's acting like Android Auto though it's called MultiPlay, and working fine. Android Auto, as an app is not visible in the app-overview. Why should that be this way?
@Klussenpunt - Thanks for the insight! I found the setting under Factory Settings, and turned it off, but my phone still does the same thing. I have taken these (extreme) measures with no luck:
Disabled the factory setting (as you pointed out)
Unpaired my phone and deleted it from the head unit
Booted my Android head unit into recovery, wiped EVERYTHING and restarted
Verified that the factory setting is still set to No/Off
Re-paired my phone
I still get Android Auto launched on my phone when I connect. UGH.
Does anyone have any other thoughts on why this keeps happening?

Have you tried removing the cache and memory from the Android Auto app in your phone, after that you can disable Android Auto making contact with new Android Auto requests.
@Klussenpunt - That idea (removing cache/memory) was what got me to my final answer. It dawned on me that if I could find the "app" in my android settings (because Android Auto doesn't show as a normal app, it is hidden) then I could disable it.
Sure enough, I was able to get to the list of apps and services installed, found it, and did two things:
Removed all cache and storage
Disabled the service
Boom! Now when my phone connects via bluetooth, the Android Auto mode does not start up.
Thanks soooo much!

On my Samsung Note 9, the app is just listed as Android Auto in the normal apps. Depending on your device, you may have to check the option to view all system apps in order to see and disable it?

Watch GT2 (not pro) Bluetooth Takes Priority over itself

Hi all,
Thanks for your time in advance..
I'll try to expain my problems
First! environment:
Phone:
Samsung Galaxy S10e
Stock (no root or no custom) ROM: Android 10 (One UI 2.5)
problem source (possibly) device
Huawei GT2 FW:1.0.10.12
Huawei Health version:11.0.1.512
HMS core version:5.0.5.300
case1:
Only GT2 is connected to phone, no other bluetooth device is connected.
Making calls/receiving
voice comes and goes via phone it self, but phone thinks that I'm talking via GT2 , So proximity sensor does not work.
Fix: After starting call, push speaker button, (phone becomes hansfree) then re-push same button (phone is phone but not via GT2) so Proximity starts working.
case2:
when both GT2 and any other bluetooht device (headset or car head unit) connected
Making calls/receiving calls
First for less than a second phone thinks it is connected to GT2 but realises the second bluetooth device, tries to switch but it is not possible, so voice comes and goes via phone.
fix (if this can be called as a fix , while driving a car), trying to touch the bluetooth button on dialer (caller ID screen) and find the proper bluetooth device to talk via, and select it. then explain that you couldn't hear first 5-10 seconds of conversation to your friend/wife/kid.
this is not the phone issue, because simultaneously connected bluetooth devices doesnt cause the issue, if none of them are GT2.
I don't want to unpair and re-pair every time I get in my car, or jogging with my bluetooth headsets in my ears.
if any solution known, please guide me!!!
Regards
Uninstall HMS Core
@werner082002 , could you please confirm that it will solve the issue.
And uninstalling HMS Core will not cause other issues?
For your case no.2 I can confirm same behaviour with Honor Gs pro. At least in a car where a second bluetooth source is present. I don't have HMS Core installed anyway so I think this does not make any difference. But at the end of the day I understand why this is happening. Phone on itself does not select in advance on what device you'll take the call. Who to blame ? Not sure, I'm leaning toward phone Android os... IMHO. Should give you an option before accepting the call not after.
For case 1 I experience this on rare occassions when screen while receiving a call remains black. I just press the power button few times to get screen back on.
Not perfect but I got used to it.
EDIT: I just remembered if I recall correctly, somewhere in BT setting you should get an option to "use this device to receive calls" or something similar...try that.
Have a nice day.

suggestion below.
- Reset the GT2 and pair the GT2 to another phone (preferably an android)
(To reset watch: From the home screen press the Up button, swipe until you find Settings, touch it, go to System > Reset, and then touch √ to confirm. As all the data on your watch will be removed when you restore the watch to its factory settings, please exercise caution before confirming.)
- Settings > Apps > Apps > Tap 3 dots > show system processes > Bluetooth > Storage > Clear Data(Could be different on another android device)
- On Android devices: make sure the phone is up to date
- Uninstall Huawei health app & install from the Huawei App Gallery. You can install the app gallery here (If using a non Huawei phone): https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/campaign/appgallery/
- App Gallery > Me > Check for updates
- App Gallery > Search "HMS core" > Update
- App Gallery > Search > "Huawei Health" > Update
- Huawei health app > Devices > Select device > Firmware upgrade
In regards to 'Case 1' are you answering the incoming calls via the phone or the watch?
Many thanks,
Briany - Service team

I have the same problem. I start the call from the car, after a few seconds the audio goes back to the phone. I uninstalled HMS Core, but the problem is still there.

When I make a call using my phone, screen stay on and icon of Bluetooth lights green. Turning speakerphone on and off helps but that's not solution.
Hi i have the same problem i believe this problem have only Samsung phone, i have Samsung note 10+ . And i have Samsung buds + and watch gt2.
I have it all together for 6 months and I worked perfectly, about a month ago I started to have the same issue you mentioned, when I make a call, my watch shows a connected device and the call is on my mobile phone. at first I thought the problem was in buds+ when I changed headphones I had the same problem. so I imagined it was a mobile issue, I went to reinstall it in the service and then it worked perfectly. . .
But:
when I download it hms and health app from play store the system works perfectly as soon as I download the updated ones app then the problem begins.
Same here....
I have been seeing more users with the same issue, on almost every tech forum that I'm using.
So, I heard that you may download an older (i.e. at least 8-9 months older) Huawei Health app from apkmirror . com and install. (Downgrade)
Some of the people reported that this is a solution for the issue. (I don't know exact version solving the issue)
If it doesn't solve, try older versions until you fix the issue.
So when you need a watch fw update, you will update Huawei health to the latest version first, then install the watch fw, then turn back to old Huawei health that solved the issue.
As I mentioned above, I moved to GWA2, but you may give it a try and if it works you may report here. (please let us know the version fixing the issue)
Regards.
has any one tried it?
