[Q] Benefits of root? - Moto 360

I have owned plenty of rooted android phones and understand the benefits of custom roms, titanium, ad block, etc. I now own my first smart watch and see that root is available as well. What are the benefits of rooting my 360? I own a AT&T Note Edge which has no root as of now. If there is any real benefits of rooting the 360 will a rooted phone make root access better on the watch or it doesn't matter if the phone is rooted also. Thanks in advance for your input.

After today's disappointing announcements, I have decided to go back to the Note series of phones. Is was wondering if it was possible to just root the phone and either disable certain apps (mostof the Samsung crap)from starting up or completely remove them to get the best of both worlds considering custom roms are inferior to stock for camera, S pen, etc.

I don't know what disappointing announcements you're talking about but there is no root for the AT&T and Verizon version of the Note 4. If you want to root a Note 4 you have to have the Developer Edition which can only be purchased directly from Samsung. Some of the "crap" can be disabled, but most of it must be removed after root if you don't want it starting up or running in the background.

Should I upgrade to the G3?

Hello everyone!
I currently have a galaxy S4 and don't feel like spending $600 or being on a monthly payment plan via AT&T and was considering just buying a used, last generation phone. I was looking at the Galaxy S5, the LG G3, and a few other ones (maybe Sony's Z3 and HTC's M8). One thing I wish the G3 had was the USB 3.0 charging that the S5 has but, apart from that, the specs on the G3 look awesome! I had a few questions that you guys might be able to answer:
1) Are you happy with the G3?
2) If you were looking to get an older generation phone now, would you get the G3 or another phone?
3) Are the bootloaders locked in the G3? (The S4 had the bootloaders locked in an update so I want to ensure that if this is an issue, I get one that hasn't been updated to a locked bootloader).
If you guys don't mind helping me make the right decision with an upgrade, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot!
-Jay
1. I'm over the moon with my g3, as are a lot of users. Now that we've had time to open it up, it's got so much custom rom and kernel availability that I only wish I got off stock sooner. Coming from an s4 to the g3, will make a world of difference. Any battery or performance issues due to the screen can be negated with rooting and using a custom rom that is more optimized than the stock ROM (For an exmple you can go to the g3 Android development section and check out the custom roms and what they look like, as well as the features they pack).
2. I'd get the g3 as a "past generation" phone in a heartbeat, for the reasons above.
3. Yes, the boatloader is locked, LG is notorious for locking their devices bootloaders, but we've been able to achieve root and custom ROM support by Bumping the custom rom images (Signing them with legit tags to make the boatloader think it's official firmware) so at this point I don't think that'll matter at all.
TL;DR: Coming from an S4 to the G3 will be one heck of an upgrade. And, with the custom support, you won't regret it.

Who here doesn't root anymore?

Just curious if anyone else doesn't care about root anymore.
I haven't rooted since I took the Marshmallow update, and I don't miss a thing about root. My phone runs great without a custom kernel or the ability to write to the microSD with apps that don't normally get to do so.
I'm not arguing that being unrooted is better. The only real benefit to not having root is that I can just take the security updates OTA with no fuss or muss. But I'm not paranoid about security updates, so that doesn't matter much to me. It's just that if root was such a good thing, why don't I miss it?
I agree, it isn't work the effort anymore. My next Smart Phone will be Google only.
Yup, haven't rooted in a while. It's nice being able to take the security updates and keep the phone a little more locked down. Only thing I miss is ad blocking.
Not to derail this thread. I have some input for un-rooted users. But also my feelings for root.
You un-rooted users try Adguard? The Google Play version works for Samsung and Yandex browsers only.
The other browsers require the version that comes from their site.
But Adguard is limited to VPN only for un-rooted devices and may use a tad more RAM and battery and be slower. Rooted or not, Adguard may be the best ad-blocker for Android.
What about Good Lock? Can you run that on un-rooted marshmallow phone? Dunno, maybe you can?
Then there's package disabler apps on Google Play that you can use to deal with bloat. Tried those?
However, I'd miss root too much to go without it, personally. No V4A for easy tunes listening, Xposed customization (or custom ROMs) and individual core control, and one of my favorites: modified Swype with top number row and one added shortcut to edit keyboard.
What kind of screen on time are guys getting on battery stats? I usually get 8 hours plus on the stock sized capacity battery but that depends on what I'm using there phone for. -(Browsing seems less intensive compared to streaming, gaming, downloading and talking.-use effects stats the most...)

idk about not needing root lol
but not needing a custom rom is acceptable lol
i know for me im stock rooted only to remove bloat center my clock to put percent in battery instead of on the side
plus once you have adaway and the 1 for youtube you cant go back *At least i think so*
I am not root as yet i have no problem so far yet with the stock rom
I have not rooted since the Marshmallow upgrade, either. I miss Titanium Backup and FolderMount, but I am too lazy to unroot for the frequent security updates.
I specifically root for AdAway and V4A sound processing. Being able to have root is more important to me than Android Pay, Samsung Pay, Samsung Apps Store, and all apps that force 1 minute video ads to play before you can do anything else.
Since Samsung has decided to start locking bootloaders on all new phones they sell, eliminating the possibility to root....its time for me to switch brands and even carriers. Its been a long time coming.
My next phone in 2 months will be on Cricket. I am leaving Sprint Postpaid after 12 years and will be saving $80 a month in plan cost on the 2 phones on my account... even after 18% employer discount on my Everything Data Family 1500 plan. I dont need unlimited data anymore and Cricket has faster LTE than Sprint in my area.
I am looking at buying the Nexus 6P (or the brand new HTC Nexus model), the Motorola Z (if they make an unlocked force edition) or the new Axon 7.

I think root is not needed for now but if note 4 is note get nougat or further updates we will need root for custom roms or add new features our phone

OP3T arriving to me soon - worth rooting?

So recently I have purschased a 3T (after my Galaxy S6 exploded) and it's coming to my hands really soon. The question I'm asking myself right now is whether that amazing device is worth rooting. The question is quite bizarre in my case since I am an Android enthusiast and so far I have rooted EVERY SINGLE device I have owned. I also used to be a ROM/kernel developer as well back in the Xperia Arc/HOX/N4/5 days and root was simply essential for me especially that I loved playing around with Android. Referring to my last choice - Galaxy S6 (which replaced my old might Nexus 5) just had to be rooted. I came to Samsung from CLEAN Android experience and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't make it with tons of Touchwiz bloatware slowing my device down. Now, I have reached the point when I am not really this sure if I'll be rooting OP3T. Now, I just expect a device to be flawless in everyday usage and simply reliable. Any tips? Is it really worth rooting OP3T and sacrificing Oxygen OS OTAs? Or maybe the custom ROMs out there are so outstanding that it's just a must do. Thanks in advance

No i dont think so. Oxygenos is simply smooth you hardly find lag and 6gb is just enough. All my family members using oneplus 3 and 3t. Except me nobody has rooted it. But the performance is so awesome you dont need to root the phone
Btw oneplus warranty includes rooted devices

Even for AdAway, Greenify or SDMaid? Those were quite essential apps for me especially on the crappy GS6. SDMaid could do wonders to put it back to smooth work.
If you find those apps useful, then it's worth it.

Exactly.
For what it is worth, I was a huge AdAway user. I've gotten around it by using Dolphin browser with ad blocking extension. Works every bit as effectively as AdAway for web browsing. Sure, I have to deal with a few ads in some apps, but this is a minor annoyance for me.
I have had the phone since June and never once felt the need to root. As stated earlier, OOS is simply brilliant.

Try YuBrowser on this phone. It's optimized for our Snapdragon and comes with a lot of security. I also use SDMaid.

You don't need greenify bcoz oxygenos has built-in hibernating tool. For blocking ads use can use a adguard which do not required a rooted phone. As far sd maid is concerned i have not used it so i cant comment on that.
If you root the phone and oneplus released a new update you can flash the update ( but u need flash updated full rom available from oneplus website) through twrp. You dont need oneplus recovery.

Is this phone right for me?

I currently use a Moto X Pure Edition with Straight Talk (AT&T) prepaid, and a custom ROM (with Xposed)... and my requirements for a new phone are removable storage, under $500, an AMOLED screen, and the ability to root and install Xposed (and a headphone jack).
I don't understand the lack of popularity surrounding this phone and was posting this here to see if I was missing something. No other phone has a great screen, form, battery, and price that I've come across.
The phone is currently on sale on the Moto website for $350 in both colors so I need to make a decision soon...
Thanks in advance for any responses and I apologize if I've posted this is in the wrong place.
The phone's great. The battery last the whole day, it's fast, the camera it's okay, and it doesn't have any major problem.
The only thing I don't like it's that the phone it's not very popular, so there are not many roms for it and development is not as big as with other phones (There's not even official LOS for this phone).
As I see, you like to root and install custom roms, and if you're planning to do so with this phone, I wouldn't consider you bought it.
I can root it and at least install Xposed though, correct?
And is there an unofficial LOS rom for this phone?
If so/if not what's the best rom for this phone?
Yes, there's an unofficial LOS 15, but take into account that it still have problems, and currently, there's no complete way to go back to stock in case you don't like it.
I think you can install Xposed and Root the phone, but don't forget to back up everything!
If you thinking of rooting the phone amd installing custom ROMs, then
my opinion is.. Don't buy the Moto Z2 play.
The main reason is that , till now there is no sure shot way of going
back to completely stock with a locked bootloader, in case you don't like
the overall community support for the phone which may make you think
of going back to stock to re-sell it.
Secondly, i have came to know that the phone is not that popular overall,
hence there are hardly any developers for making custom ROM's for this phone.
Before this phone being my daily driver, i had a Galaxy S4 mini as my daily
driver which is almost a 5 year old phone, and i enjoyed installing and trying
out alot of Custom ROMs on it, Till date the community for the S4 mini hasn't
shrinked much and is still active, just checkout the XDA community for S4 mini
and you will be surprised how many developers used to support it, and still are
supporting it.
Moreover The S4 mini has Stock firmware available on its official site of Multiple
android Versions.
So coming from a phone which still has such an active community, I got disappointed after seeing the Z2 Play forums.
I have my Moto Z2 Play rooted with Xposed installed, came to know of the lack of support only after I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, wanted to re-sell it, but the stock Firmware for my Z2 play version is not available.

As long as I can get Xposed on it everything would be okay I'm thinking. I intend to unlock the bootloader and reselling it isn't a concern (although if it dies in the first year I'd like to be able to return it to Lenovo/Motorola or something).
