Hi all,
I purchased a fire tv stick today and installed CPU-Z and XMBC as soon as I got home. When I ran the two apps, I noticed that both apps reported that the system has a total memory of 494mb. Doesn't fire tv stick come with 1GB ram and 8GB rom? Is there a 512mb ram version of fire tv stick or it's simply those apps are outdated to recognize the stick?
One more question, do I need to do anything when I'm done watching the tv? Should I unplug the stick or just leave it there and let it enter the sleep mode? This is my first time using a stick so I'm not too sure what to do in this scenario.
Thanks

the ram is split, 512 for system and 512 for video. i had noticed that in xbmc so i looked it up and found that the ram is split. as for unplugging it, just leave it plugged in and let it go to sleep.

Why specifically do you need to reboot? (Audio issues, freezes, ?) It might make a difference in the finding the right person to diagnose. Does it sleep or does it stay on overnight?

yes the fire tv goes to sleep but in the morning The fire tv is non responsive cant do anything with remote no lights on front and blank screen.
Try using CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your bluetooth keyboard.
I found it by accident -- it will actually reset the Fire TV instantly.
I've had the same problem on both my unrooted devices.
I usually reboot using the remote (hold down the main clicking button + play)
Is you firetv usually idle with kodi running? i always have kodi running when this happens
I don't have a Fire TV, but I have had this problem with my Fire TV Stick, which was hooked to my Samsung TV and now my Vizio TV. Every time I go to use the Fire stick, I have to unplug it from power and plug it back in. It is very annoying. I don't get any messages, just a black screen.

I have the same problem. It seems to be getting worse. Pretty much everytime i use it it happens.
This happens to me as well. When plugged into my VIZIO tv, and running Kodi 17.2, the Fire TV will spontaneously enter a reboot cycle and will remain there until I unplug the power, wait 2 minutes and plug it in again. I have the new Fire TV 4k (hanging dongle), but this also happened when i had a quad core Fire TV Stick.. my original Fire TV Stick (with Voice Remote) continues to operate without issue to this day, albeit much slower since Amazon removed the Youtube app.
Oddly, the same device does NOT suffer from this issue if I plug it into my LG tv... Could it be an issue with the HDMI port (Port 1 (ARC) that I am plugged into??
Glad to know im not alone. Sometimes it will last for days, sometimes not.
I do use "advanced task killer" and "fast reboot" to kill kodi, netflix, firefox etc when Im not using them.
Guys, i used to have exact same problem and luckily was able to fix it. In my case as soon as the aftv goes in sleep mode it reboots in recovery mode . So because i have the TWRP customer recovery the box is not able to apply that update because is not the stock recovery. the only way to get it back to home GUI is to reboot the box from recovery. That was extremely annoying for me. A while ago i used to block the updates from amazon.com by using opendns, but stopped using it so the box becomes open for updates which automatically get downloaded on the box. Because im rooted there is a easy way of blocking the updates on the box itself by using Method 1 http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-block-software-updates-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick/. However this will stop working if you factory reset the box, if you do so you'll have to apply the blocking procedure again.
After the blocking is done just upgrade the box to the latest prerooted firmware from rbox and you're set. this is the link to the latest pre-rooted custom firmware for aftv1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/prerooted-stock-images-t2882337.
i hope that helps.
To add to stutunaru, Method 5 is equally important to apply through TWRP, after a fresh ROM flash and before the first full system boot.

Hi,
For as long as I can remember I have had to physically remove the power cable from my fire stick in order for it to work. I typically have to do this every day, the first time I want to use the device. If I don't, when I select the fire stick input on my Samsung tv, I get a message along the lines of "Anynet device not found".
I have had a replacement device from Amazon and this situation is exactly the same. I actually paused a tv show for a couple of minutes the other day and the fire tv stick basically went offline again and I had to do the thing with the power cable.

Disable anynet from within your TV settings.

Nope. This removed the fire stick as a selectable option within the list of available sources.

it's not a problem with Anynet. My firestick (bought less than a week ago) does the same annoying thing and I never used Anynet.
Hey, I have always had the same issue. Rather than pulling out the power cord, I find that if I take the batteries out of the remote, put them back in, then hit home, it works. I know it seems silly, but try it! :good:
I have four Fire TV's, 2 gen 1, 2 gen 2. The FTV2's downloaded 6 gb/day while I was out of town. I had long wondered why I was using more data than I thought I was. Anyone had this problem? Is there a fix? I've disabled updates on both FTV2's.
any ideas?
how are you powering the fire tv? if plugged into a standard power socked I assume as with the fire tv stick it does not actually turn off. If powered via usb to the tv it will turn off so I assume that you are plugged into mains power and the device is still on and doing its stuff in the background thus using data. To use 6 gig i guess you was out of town for a while lol, anyway i think this is your issue and its not and error of any kind. to stop it unlplug the fire tv device when not being used
Was anything running when you left town or was it on the home page? Even if the screen saver kicks in 6gig/day is a lot.
You might want to think about making sure you fTV is in suspend every time you finish using it. The light on the front of the box should be off.
Hello together,
I bought a Fire TV Stick 4k some days ago and ask myself if this is normal behavior:
(Just installed Netflix and KODI (for Youtube without ads) on the stick and disabled the screensaver. Nothing further yet.)
I've made the observation that every time when I leave it alone for an hour or so screen gets black and when I press a button it comes back to Amazon main menu - regardless which app had been on before. This also happens when I watch TV and switch back to the sticks av port. First the screen is black and when I press any button, I'm in the Amazon main menu. This is a bit annoying because the intended use was 99% Netflix.
Last year a friend gave me an old version of the stick to play around and I don't remember this annoying behavior. In my memories it was possible to switch the av port with Netflix menu on and when you switched back to the stick some hours later Netflix was still on.
Is my memory playing tricks on me?
In each case:
Is there anything I can do to achieve the desired behavior?
Ok, I answered the question on my own. This is indeed a new behavior introduced with the new Fire TV 4k stick. Very annoying decision from Amazon. :-/
However, here is a workaround:

Edit
Hi!
My Fire Stick Lite is connected to an OKI TV (old and very basic) and with external power.
It works correctly but when I put the TV in StandBy and then I wake up the TV again there is no image in the HDMI port but the Fire Stick is on since it responds to ping from my laptop (which is connected to the same network), that is to say that for a strange reason it does not send the video signal to the HDMI and I have to disconnect the power from the Fire Stick to restart it and then there is already image.
I tried another TV at home, a more modern Samsung and the same thing does not happen.
In the OKI TV options there is nothing to configure on the HDMI ports.
I am afraid that the Fire Stick will be damaged by continuous power disconnections.
Regards

You have to change the resolution.

Hi,
Did you change the resolution in the Fire Stick or TV settings?
Thanks
Well, I have found the solution.
Disabling the HDMI CEC in the Fire Stick configuration.
Now it doesn't matter if I turn off the TV completely or put it on standby, the Fire Stick is already available.
Thank you for your help.
