Ok guys so here´s the problem. I ususally leave my USB setup as "ask on connection", so whenever I connect USB the phone will ask me in wich USB mode I want it to be.
I have always used my phone like this and it has always worked. Up untill today.
I have just flashed my phone do JPC (Froyo) Firmware, I was just about to reload my agenda back to my phone through kies and that´s when I noticed that my phone will NOT connect to my PC in Kies mode, no matter what I do, it simply won´t work. I do want to make it clear that my PC DOES NOT have any driver issues, I´ve always used it like that and it has always worked, the simple fact is that when I connect the USB cable, the phone asks for the connection mode and I select "Kies", and absoluteley nothing hapens, that "MTP screen" does NOT show up, the phone does not show up "USB connected" or anything like it, and my PC obviously doens´t recognize any sort of connection. In fact, if it wasan´t for the fact that the baterry is still recharging, it would be just as if the phone simply didn´t have the USB cable attached to it.
Now to the funny part: both "mass storage" and "media storage" modes work perfectly. I have tested my phone in both my desktop PC and my notebook, it happens in both cases so it´s defineteley a phone problem.
Well, I went all the way back to flashing with the older JP6 firmware and there it was, USB Kies mode was working again. Reflashed to JPC and the Kies and I happily saw Kies mode working again... that is untill I reselected "ask on connection" mode in the USB settings. Apparenteley there´s some bug in the JPC firmware, USB Kies mode will NOT work when you have the "ask on connection" mode on, you have to leave USB Kies automatic if you want to connect it that way.
Could anyone please confirm this problem? And does anyone have a hint in how to solve it?
Thanks

Kies works under Launcher Pro now as well... shock horror !
I´m using the stock launcher in the 19000XXJPC firmware, not sure wich launcher it is...
I've got the same problem - not sure what's causing it.
Did you restore settings / system data from Titanium Backup by any chance?
what I did to get it working was.
format the Internal SD, wipe cache, factory reset everything.
After that I just copy stuff back into the internal SD.
Kies works now but I still don't like kies, it's a piece of crap.
Whenever Keis is being annoying to me, I just unmount the internal SD card, works a treat after that.

Nope... I think it´s a bug in the JPC Release, didn´t happen in JP6...
I have had this phone for only two days now. My previous phone was an EVO. I got my Epic 4G Touch via a trade and there is one thing that I cant figure out... and feel quite silly asking the question.
When I plug the phone into my PC via USB, I do not get an option or prompt to choose whether to connect as a hard drive / charge only / or tether my internet connection like I did on my EVO. It seems that it only allows me to connect in charge only mode. I have been unable to find an option to choose to connect as a hard drive in the settings menu.
Any help with this solution will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Robert
Ok, enabling the USB debugging and then unplugging and plugging in the USB fired up those settings, but it did not find drivers for:
CDC Serial or SAMSUNG_Android... I am going to search the forum for that answer.
Settings>Wireless and Networks>USB Utilities. That's how you get to USB mode. But yes debugging mode also works. But once you plug your phone in the mtp mode should connect. You can also access media on PC that way and ur sd card is still accessible thru phone, unless you're actively syncing something then you get the sync screen.

Thanks for the reply folks. I had me EVO so long that I forgot about enabling debugging mode. I did that and I finally got the drop down menu to enable me to use the phone as a hard drive.
My issue now is that I cannot seem to get two drivers to install correctly. I read through many posts, both here and ones I found via google, that suggested that I install Kais from Samsung's website to fix the driver issue. I did that, and applied all of the updates to the program that were available, and I am still getting the error saying that those drivers did not install correctly. I can browse the SD card now that Kais Air is installed, but I am still having the driver issue in device manager.
I am not sure where these drivers can be obtained...

Other than Kies, your pc should install drivers upon connecting phone. I've had this happen before. I uninstalled the drivers I found via google, restarted my pc, reconnected my device and it immediately began downloading proper drivers. I was good to go from then on.
You may wanna try, once device is connected to pc to
-go to start menu
-computer, and see if your device is there
I recently broke my HOX+ and got a GNex for my replacement. Whenever I try to connect it, using another cable (Nexus 7) because its stock cable did not come with the phone (used) I get that pop up which says "Unable to recognize device" or sometimes an error. Though on all events, I get something called Error 43.
Anyone know how to fix this? Ive tried fixing to usb port. It is all stock. I just want to connect so I can root this thing.

I do assume you're using windows?
And my apologies, are you getting this error message when you try to root?
Were these the MTP drivers you installed?

Yes, Windows 7. Those were the ones and I want to root, but I can't even connect my phone. I'll plug in my GNex and it will charge through the computer though it will not be recognized nor connected for storage purposes.

One thing you may want to try if you havent yet:
My Computer -> Right Click -> Properties -> Device Manager (On Sidebar) -> Find the GNex Drivers currently installed and remove them and reinstall (Re-plug) your phone so that the drivers can re-install.
Is this a used or new replacement?

Unfortunately, the device appears as Unknown Device. It was my Uncles and it was able to work for him. So it bothers me how its not for me. Did he by chance have it rooted prior to the ownership change?
Is the result replicated in other computers? If you haven't tried, do so. That way you can eliminate either your PC or the GNex as the culprit.

Wierd. Did you try a reset through the stock recovery or just defaults from the security menu?
Here's what I've done. I've pulled my drivers and compressed them. Update the "Unknown Device" from the Device Manager by pointing it to the extracted DLL's and see if that will work.

Pushing them? Sorry for my poor explanation. Those files you downloaded are my working drivers that I managed to pull from:
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\UMDF
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\
C:\Windows\system32\
All you have to do is press START -> Type "Device Manager" -> Select the "Unknown Device" -> Press "Update Driver" -> "Browse my computer for driver software" -> Hit "Browse" and point to the folder were the DLL's are located in your computer (Once you have decompressed the archive of course)

Honestly, I'm stumped. The drivers should have installed correctly regardless. This leads me to believe that its the GN acting up. Again, when you did a reset on it; Did you do it from the Security Submenu or from the Stock Recovery?
Is the device recognized under fastboot? ADB usually works fine there.

Wow, I'm truly amazed how nothing seemed to work. I don't think 1-Click Temp-Root Methods work on the GN, in which case you would use the terminal to Perm-Root it.
This happens on all computers?
Tried Different USB ports?
Rebooting PC?

Hi all,
I rooted my M8 recently with the Windroid toolkit. Everything worked great, and I flashed the digitalhigh GPE rom and love it.
Now when I try to connect my phone to my computer, I do not receive the prompt for RSA key trust. My phone shows offline on my 8.1 VM and it is just not found on my Windows 7 machine. It also shows offline on a Macbook Air. I have tried everything I can find to get USB debugging to start working again but I just can't seem to find out what needs to be done. I have the latest version of the HTC drivers I believe and I should have the latest add drivers. On Sense, I had to turn on USB debugging and select the phone to be mounted as a disk drive for WinDroid to be able to root my phone.
So, how can I get this fixed? Is it an issue with the ROM? Is there some way that I can turn on a disk drive mode on the rom.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you.

Looking at device manager, it shows my phone in two different places. It shows once in 'other devices' as just android phone and then under 'portable devices' as the name of the phone.
When I go into detail under 'other devices', device manager show that drivers are not installed but says everything is installed correctly under 'portable devices'.
I have the latest version of Sync Manager, so by that reasoning I should have the latest version of the HTC drivers. What else would I need to get my phone to not show as offline?
Thank you

Uninstall Sync Manager. It doesn't play nice with ADB. The only thing it is good for if you are rooted is installing the drivers. After that, get rid of it.

Still having issues
Hello all,
I am still having issues with getting my computer to recognize that USB debugging is on and getting it connected to my computer with adb. I have uninstalled sync manager, and yet my phone is still not recognized.
Under debugging in developer options, the only thing I have checked is USB debugging.
Is there something else that needs to be checked in the developer options? Why do I still have this issue?
P.S. I would post pictures, but I can't unfortunately :\

Thanks for the reply bford152. Oddly, I do not have this option available to me.
I would like to post pictures of the options I have under USB debug. But even posting a link and not having it parse still tries to read it and says I cannot post outside links. Next question, how do I attach photos without adding it as a link to the post. Maybe I'm blind, because I cannot see an option to do this.
Thanks everyone!
What's your adb version ?
It needs 1.0.31 for Android 5.1 and 1.0.32 for Android 6.0 (minimum requirement)
Have you tried with a secured kernel/boot.img ? If you don't have "Revoke USB debugging authorizations" in Developer options - means that you have insecure kernel installed.

I have adb version 1.0.32, so all good there.
I don't seem to have "Revoke USB debugging authorizations". So, I have Elite kernel right now and I guess that's the issue. I will get a different kernel and see if that helps.
Thanks!

Try going to Developer Options>Disable USB Debugging, then reboot. Then connect your phone and try going to USB computer connection again, and enable whatever connection mode you want. You can re-enable USB debugging after that.

I'm at work now, but you use Explorer and go to the folder where you extracted the drivers and use right-click --> properties in one of the files there. There is a tab that lists certificates. Just to be sure you can temporally disable driver signing verification.

Doesn't work for me, it says it cannot find the files. In my win10 install i have two problems, ADB only works if i disable driver signing verification and MTP doesn't work. I tried running sfc /scannow and it says WinUSB is corrupt and cannot be repaired (probably why MTP does not work). I tried using intel drivers for both and it does not work. Only ASUS works (but fails because of certificate) for ADB Composite Device, but mtp doesn't work anyway.
This tutorial could help you anyway.

Hi Kras and thank for the response!
I Tried it too but in my device manager it wont show any device related to asus nor adb.
Tryied to boot into TWRP but no MTP either.
I Tried USDBview but doesnt show. The strange fact is that the phone charges normally.
It happened after i switched to CHARGE ONLY... after that, could never go back "/
I think i´ll try to revert EVERYTHING to stock. Somethings not right.
Another information, the cellphone charges, i´ve tryied to unistall and reinstall every adb usb_driver but in driver manager, nothing appears, even an exclamation. Tried to force install drivers, nothing either. All this happened after set CHARGE MODE i´m so pissed off and frustrated
This is a shot in the dark, but in device manager you can click View>Show hidden devices.
From there you can truly uninstall all drivers, and then reboot and try reinstalling. Maybe this will help.
Also, different ports, different cables?
If it's just for file transfers have you also tried something like AirDroid or Dropbox/Google Drive/Mega?
