[Q] Is it possible to maintain data while moving to different ROM?

I hope someone can help me with this. I am running the latest official Sony (2.3.4 I think), with Doomkernel OC to 1.9GhZ and root. However, although I actually like the Sony overlay much much more than the atrocious Sense, I simply long to try some of the custom ROMs out there.
But I have the following issue: I have downloaded games (legally of course!) which also have their own data installed on SD. If I move to a new ROM, will I have to redownload all that data, or can I simply re-install the titles and they will find the data on my SD instantly? How about save files? Is it possible to maintain them while moving to an entirely new ROM?
Finally, what happens to purchases from Playstation Suite (aka via Sony's store, which takes you to a different website -- not the App Market?) Would I lose these titles?
Too many questions, I know -- but I want to make sure I can get the use I primarily aim for (which is a gaming device) by switching to a custom ROM. So long as I can maintain my save data and not have to redownload GBs of game data using my slow 3G, I will be happy. Also, full compatibility with the Playstation Suite is a must.
I hope you can help me out with this question!

Im 99.9% sure you will need to re download the data as well as the save states being no good anymore. I dont think you will lose the titles from the Playstation Suite, but I dont use it so I cant say for sure.
If you wanna try it out, just make a backup and then flash the custom rom, if the games dont work anymore with the same sd card data, then you can restore the back up you made and everything will work as it was before you flash the custom rom
What about SMS messages?
Titanium backup?

Do I have to buy the full version in order to backup everything? Is there a free alternative?

[Q] Backup and restore (non-rooted) Xperia S

Hi,
My SXS is lagging too much, specially the contacts. So I was thinking of having a software repair. The problem is, without having custom recovery/Titanium Backup (as I haven't rooted my phone within warranty), I don't know how to make a complete backup. Will the stock Backup and Restore app work as like TB? Any help/suggestion is welcome.
Thanks
Dhiman
You can do that with Sony pc companion

Force GPU rendering I have tried, but is not of much help. Basically when my phone is working well, everything is fine. But suddenly this system wide lag happens, home screen is redrawn multiple times, and specially the contacts/dialler is a mess.
When you say everything will be backed up, do you mean ALL data, including home screen widgets? Game data will be lost, thats ok, the downloaded game files will be there, thats fine. But I am fearful of having to change all settings again.
Uninstalling useless apps is always an option, and I do it from time to time. But if any particular app is causing the lag, that only I will know after a fresh install.
Asking a noob question here, do you think JB update can improve things for me (since its changing the kernel and all)?
I'd start by flashing a stock ftf through flashtool just to redo system stuff if you take this route all you need to do is uncheck wipe data and partition I'd clear cache then try it out. If that doesn't work I'd get a ram viewing application when it lags pop it up and see what's hogging your resources. Have you tried a task killing application? Ik they are frowned upon but if it's a rogue application killing it would stop the lag and point you in the right direction. Try shutting off data maybe an application is trying to connect and Download or upload something often (Facebook?) That's the steps I'd take atleast

@SAMURAI6969
Q1. Did you also face same problem (tremendous lag in contacts) in ICS?
Q2. When you say I will lose widgets and app data, setting, are you saying even with the stock backup and restore, I will lose the data?
A bit confused here - Repair my phone option says: Internal storage will be wiped out, but external storage will be intact. So does it mean, in SXS, everything will be deleted? Or my "Internal SD card" (or whatever it is called) will be as it is? Please help, really confused
Yes until now I have some lag in contacts
And stock backup and restore app doesnt backup ur data when u restore your apps u will find them stock without your data
If u do a factory reset everything will be wiped like apps and data but u can backup the apps without their data
Or use titanium backup
For me I change my Rom nearly every 2 wks but I always return back to stock bcz its the most stable and have lots of beautiful features
I think u have to root its the easiest way to not lose ur data
Cheers

Yup in factory reset everything on ur internal memory will stay in place like music and videos
The only thing you Ll lose is apps and settings (you will have your phone back to stock with your own files like music and videos)
Hit thanks if I helped

[Q] Backup/restore app data

Hi,
I'm having some problems with the backup of the data from my HTC one X.
Í have a new Phone, and was hoping that some apps where backed up to the google cloud (mostly game progress).
But this does not seem to be happening.
Cause it is not restoring the progress on the new Phone (HTC One).
Now I was trying to find out if I could see when the app was last backed up, and according to the internet this should be possible through the google Dashboard on internet.
I can't post an image or link to this, because of spam protection I guess.
So I hope you guys know what I mean.
But somehow I can't seem to find this.
Also, how can I make a full backup right now of the Phone with default google backup, not third-party apps.
Thanks in advance!

There is no way to make a full backup without third-party apps. The Google cloud backup service MAY backup app data if the app developer enabled it. To backup all app data you will need to root your device and use an app such as Titainium backup.

Thans for the reply.
According to the developer page, they have enabled it.
If I start the game on the new Phone, it askes me te restore a cloud save. But is is 1 month old.
That's why I would like to see what google exactly backups to the google cloud.
And it should be possible according to many posts on the web. Only I can't seem to find it.

Help please unlocking bootloader

Hi
I have a RN8P Global 12.5.1
How can i unlock the bootloader whithout loosing data, exactly App's Data. And rooting it
It's important for me to save it, but whithout Root, Titanium don't work.
Or is there any other solution to backup App's Data with another software or a Windows software.
Thanks in advance for your help
unlocking bootloader while retaining data is not possible, sadly.. but most of your data will be saved and restored with Google account. you can also use MIUI backup if you're still gonna use MIUI after unlocking

Hi
Thanks for your answer, is there any solution to backup App's Data ?
With MIUI backup, no App's Data are saved, also with Google.
Or transfer data to another device ?
Thanks in advance

hmm based on experience after unlocking bootloader, and even flashing new ROM, most of my apps data got restored by Google like app settings and preferences, messages, home settings, etc.
which specific app do you need to restore data on? perhaps it has a way to backup and restore data, like in most messaging apps. if it's a game, you can connect it to Google Play Games too
just treat it like you're transferring to a new device/phone, and you'll be okay and won't miss much

Hi
Thanks for your reply
It's not game's data, but apps like CCTV apps with special data.
I tried to transfer it in a new Samsung Tab, but only the apps are restored, not the apps data.
Titanium do it verry well but with the root
