[Q] G2 Owner, Shall I Buy The G3 ?! - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dears LG G3 Owners ,
With LG G3 16GB price is very good now around 430USD for the 16GB/2GB Version , Shall i buy it ? is it worth the upgrade as i am already a G2 owner , the 32GB/3GB version is still very expensive and it will cost me extra 100USD which is very much
Is the QHD screen differ a lot from the FHD and worth the upgrade ?! or it's the same experience.
I just got my G2 4 months ago an i really love it so much and happy with it on every aspect
Does the 2GB RAM version runs good with the QHD or the Processor and RAM struggles
i watched almost every review from every popular site on YouTube and still can't decide :silly:
so please inform me with the Pros and Cons for the G3 specially the 16GB/2GB version
Appreciated your always help
Thanks

Honestly, if you are satisfied with G2, its not worth it.
Stick with G2 little but and get Snapdragon 810 device next year.

I find it never worthwhile to upgrade to the next flagship device
G2 to G3
S4 to S5
Note 3 to Note 4
And so on the specs are never worth the upgrade
Always skip a generation and its a real upgrade
The absolute worst so far has got to be the Z2 to Z3 practically nothing changed anyone going from a Z2 to a Z3 is just throwing money away
Just my 50 Cents

Stick with the G2 man, stick with it. I had one and picked up the G3, and am not happy with it. It's actually still sitting in the plastic still since LG fixed my cracking issue, and am back on my M8.

So you all agree that it doesn't worth the upgrade.
I intend to use it as another phone with another SIM side by side with the G2 , Sadly that LG doesn't have a decent Dual SIM Phone, or if i found that i really don't need to carry 2 phones i will sell the G2 and keep the G3
i guess i might keep the money for now and waiting for the next generation.
if you have any other recommendations i will be glad to hear it
Thanks All

Not available in entire Middle East First time to hear about it

Im going to totally contradict my previous comment
Even though i say its not worth the upgrade i am one of those guys who just wants the next best thing
I never had a LG device but i bought my daughter the G2 last christmas and instantly fell for the device
Once i heard The G3 was out and had a QHD screen i just wanted it
I had a Note 3 (Loved this phone) found someone looking to swap for a Z2 so i did for a change (didn't like the Z2 at all poor dev support visible touch screen panel not very responsive screen)
Then just last week someone looking to swap G3 for a Z2 couldn't believe my luck
Ive seen G3's selling on gumtree for £200 so if you can get £160 for your G2 id say why the hell not

Those for £200 are cracked or broken.

Maybe now but ive seen fully working ones for £200
Theres one there now for £260 open to offers unlocked which is not bad could easily get them down to £230

@manemzjum
i am thinking the same way , why not getting the LG flagship device while it's cheap and still great and later search for a deal to sell the G2 so the upgrade is done for a few money
do you have the 16GB/2G RAM or 32GB/3GB RAM , How do you compare it to the G2 once you have both in your hand
found a Z3 Dual SIM for a good deal around 550USD brand new sealed , but what LG managed to do adding a 5.5" screen in same size as Z2/Z3 is amazing and let me think a lot before getting a Xperia device
It's really hard to decide

The size of the G3 is great in your hand feels smaller somehow because of the curved back
I have the 16Gb version haven't really stress tested it yet but i just love looking at some QHD sample videos on the 5.5" display its like porn for my eyes
Lots of folk complaining about the camera but i find it excellent especially with laser focus
I cant really compare to the G2 as i haven't used it much like i say it is my daughters phone
Overall im very happy with it and will stick with it till im due a new contract in October 2015

Thanks for your feedback , i meant for daily usage and common used applications is there is any lags or delay in touch or something like that ?! few reviews said that the device struggle and overheat sometimes due to high screen resolution "2GB RAM Version" and it's better to get the 3GB RAM , although the 3GB RAM performance was just 5~10% more than the 2GB version which isn't huge
Also already tried a G3 port to my G2 and everything was working fine , i noticed that the RAM consumption is a little bit high than regular G2 ROM so this is why asking is the G3 2GB have same behavior ?!

Only issues ive noticed is the default sms app lags but this is only an application problem as 3rd party apps work fine
phone has heated up once with excessive camera use but not with general use throughout the day
screen does have an over sharpened look to it (hopefully be fixed with lollipop update)
Ive only had the device a few days so not really looked into ram consumption don't tend to do this unless i have lag issues which i have had none (other than sms app) so its performing well by my books
Hard to tell if using QHD display for a long period of time will cause heating issues as most videos are quite short

so you so far happy with device performance , camera and screen overall
the first impression is important and since the device is new in your hand and you like it so this is good , sometimes you buy a new device and feel that you shouldn't bought it if you know what i mean
What about battery life ?!
will try to get a good price for the 3GB/32GB version , or may wait till Lollipop hit the G2 and see .

It's really amazing and so tempting what LG is doing fitting the screen in the smallest body

As previously mentioned here is an LG G3 selling for £180

Very important question , What about the Sun/Outdoor Visibility ?!
Is it good and the auto brightness manages to bright the screen enough to be visible or it's hard to use screen in sunlight ?!

Ive been using g2 since the moment it was released, It was a scary change after 5 different samsung flagships and a nexus 4. So far i am so satisfied, i don't even want a new phone.
A friend of mine has the 32gb G3, and of boy that phone is so slow. It stock unrooted, i even factory reset it, still slow.
Lile really laggy and touch input take time to react. Annoying.
Knock knock is also hit and miss there, and battery sucks.
I'm keeping my G2 until a proper phone is found. My only gripe with the g2 us the camera, and i could used 300 mah more, but i enjoy it as it is as well.
My vote : don't go close to G3. Wait until there is something without compromise.

G3 is nice upgrade to g2. Sd card, much faster camera, removable battery, better plastic, bigger and overall better screen and it will be on lolipop soner. Only thing that is better on g2 is battery. G3 is very decent upgrade unlike many flagships..
The biggest g3 problem is poor auto lightning and to many haters that never used it more than few moments or never..

Waiting on Nexus 6, how many of you would jump?

My Nexus 6 should arrive on Dec 15 and I'm totally looking forward to dumping LG G3. It took half year to bump the bootloader and get AOSP, it's too much for me. And I can't stand LG firmware, it's crap and laggy.
so I wonder, how many ppl here are waiting/ready to jump the ship ?
Why do so many people complain about lag i have zero lag. And as for development being slow if it was that big of a problem learn to do it yourself which a lot of people dont have time for. Nexus 6 will get way better development support because its bootloader can already be unlocked and its completely open source so hardly a fair comparison imo. Wouldnt ditch my G3 entirely for a n6 but would love to try one

its way too big... i find the LG G3 big... its not a device you can carry around in jeans etc... Nexus 6 is a tablet IMHO..

Wouldn't switch right now, myself. The N6 is showing the same early-adopter problems the N5 did. Also not willing to encourage Google to take the road they are starting to lean towards. Given the spec comparisons between the N6 and the current and near-term competition, the asking price is a bit, optimistic shall we say, on Google's part. Beyond those concerns, I really like my G3. Beautiful display, snappy and responsive. I can't even say that LG's skin bothers me all that much. There were some additional features I wanted, so I rooted and did some tinkering with Xposed, but I am still running the stock ROM, and expect to be for the foreseeable future. Being that I haven't run stock for longer than it took me to root my previous phones, that's saying something. The only thing I can think of that might tempt me to flash a custom ROM would be if the PA team added the G3 to their list of officially supported devices. Even that might not be enough. Having been a flash junkie for a bit, I do appreciate the stability of a (mostly) stock ROM these days.
This years nexus phone simply costs too much this time off-contract. I think more people would opt to get the OPO. I managed to snag a G3 for $69 on contract. I wouldn't normally go on-contract, but we got a really sweet deal from work that made it worthwhile. (Free roaming data in any country, massive minutes package, special international rates, etc...)
This device is clearly intended for international users, For US/Canadian users your better off owning a Samsung, HTC or Motorola, If your into custom anything.
I personally would like to change over from the G3 to the Nexus 6 or the Moto x 2014. If the Nexus 6 is to big for me i'll defnitly go for the Moto X 2014. Either way eff this lg ****.
The G3 is THE NICEST device, Physically. But when it comes anything about the phone that isn't physical it just sucks sack. (except that notification area, LG did right here, But failed everywhere else)

I can't speak for everyone here, But for myself my G3 lags like **** and the responsiveness goes into the toilet the instant ANY Xposed module is installed (I haven't found a module yet that doesn't cause a system wide lag and/or battery drain). After I disable module and everything is fine, Re-enable ANY module and phone is back to performing like ****.
On my phone some apps cause the same thing.
It's not the fact that we "can't" reset, It's the fact that your playing Russian roulette on this device everytime you install anything and then having to flash every damn time an app causes an internal slowdown. (Most of the time uninstalling the bad app doesn't help, Usually requires a full flash to get rid of the problem.)
All Xposed modules on D852 = Will cause system wide phone lag for no explainable reason.
All Custom kernel on D852 = Will cause system wide phone lag for no explainable reason.
Some apps on D852 = Will cause system wide phone lag for no explainable reason.
Just because someone develops their own stuff isn't going to make anything faster.
It would take you just as long to develop anything as it would for anyone that is currently already developing for this platform.
If your not waiting for someone to build you something, You're just sitting there waiting the same amount of time waiting on yourself to do the exact same thing. Not only that but you can sit here on the G3 and get 1 rom a month or you can get a phone with real development and have roms fired at you so fast you can't even test them all.
I want to. I want to get the moto x '14. But I'm on verizon edge. And that means to do it now is have to pay 200 bucks and give them the phone. Or wait 8 months and just give them the phone. (I have to pay 75% of the phones off contract price at 26 bucks a month.) or if I pay it off 100% I can keep it. So I'm going to wait another month or so and see how lollipop treats us vzw people. If I don't get lp by then I'm going to pay them the money and go on my merry way. I'll never buy a phone with a aftermarket skin again. Just moto and nexus.
My wife got the m8. Hate dealing with it. Mom got the s5. Its a pain. And me with LG. I rocked moto back in the devour days with blur. I'd rather have that **** than this. But. Hey. Whatever. I think Motorola should do a devour redo. Same unibody metal shell, New specs, New screen, no blur. Oh man it'd be amazing.

I was thinking but not any more. Love g3 for external memory and removable battery.
I was between the N6 and the G3, and picked the G3 because it is half the price! I even got the 32/3GB version for a little bit more. I couldn't believe Google's asking price for the Nexus 6. Oh well, good for them! It seems it's selling well even though it has a SLEW of problems! For its size it has terrible battery life and mediocre imaging... For their asking price I'd say it's not a good deal, except for the whole idea that it's going to get updated for years to come! But by next year or the following at most I'll be changing devices anyways...
Regardless, the Nexus 6 looks like a good phone. But I'm too happy with my G3 awesome battery, awesome screen, 0 lag, great camera. No complaints! Enjoy your Nexus 6 It's a monster of a phone
I would like a N6 but its rather pricey and more of a sideways moment on the G3.
The main reason I want a N6 is for the Dev support not due to lag on the G3 cause I have non, my is lighting fast.

Same... zero lag ever, still on 4.4.2 waiting for OTA.
I don't know why people say this phone is laggy... I think they're just whingers. Mine is slick as a really slick thing. No root, no XPosed fail modules, just stock smooth.

[Poll]Anyone who upgraded from G2 to G3

Hey guys,
my G2 has been at the repair center because of mic issues and now I can chose between a new G2 or G3. Same price.
My thoughts:
- Most comparisons show G2 is faster and more smooth because of G3's QHD so G3 has to load lots of more pixels.
- Both has 3000 mAh battery so G2 lasts longer because of 1080p screen uses less power.
- I dont care about AOSP roms, so that wont be important to me.
- 5,2" screen is big enough already.
I wanted to see if anyone here has gone from G2 to G3 and if they could share their thoughts before I make up my mind?
Thanks.

Well.. Honestly, i won't lie to you, this device to me is a bit disappointing. Back then, i had the lg g2 and it was my fault fault, it fell to the ground and bam, screen was gone. So a few months later after using an older device i decided to make the switch to the g3. Being very satisfied with the g2, i thought, what could possibly go wrong?
I'm happy with everything except for the lag. The lag has really gotten to me lately and sometimes i really get so angry i just wanna toss it to the ground and stomp it with my shoes.
Funnily enough, i tried an aosp rom, while it was smooth as butter, i only had 2 hour screen on time. Somehow i like the lg g3's feature's though. So i really don't know what to tell you. I, myself, am not that happy with it. It's really frustrating. I wish i had picked the m8 back then (at the cost of probably battery life) or just re-bought/repaired the g2 which was nearly half the price of my g3, more responsive with hardly any if any lag at all. Now i've gotta suck it up.
p.s: i'm on Android L and really.. i thought by now we'd have **** sorted out. Whatever..

Thanks for the honesty.
There were only few months between G2 and G3 launch, your experiences and others I read online makes me think even more that the G2 is a better choice.
I think the lag is because of the QHD screen. The CPU can't process all those pixels fast enough. My guess is that upcoming 808 and 810 CPU will have everything a lot more optimized but 1080p will remain best for battery.
Yeah I agree with you, with AOSP roms you often get horrible battery life not to mention aweful camera but you give up all the stock features and of course also stability. Dont bother AOSP because you always go back to stock roms.
I think the G3 features are the same as G2. G2 has wireless storage by default which G3 dont for example. And there are G3 ported ROMs to G2 which has 0 bugs and has even given me better battery than G2 stock roms.
I will go pick up a new phone tommorow, so far I am leaning towards getting another G2. Anyone who advice me not to do so, please say so and why
IMHO...when I first got my G3 D855 32GB. What a beauty! And then wtf it's not much different from my G2 with CloudyG3 ROM. But the QHD screen blew me away. Who care about how many SOT ...there are so many option for charging. Extra batteries option and power bank with QI charger..simply put it together in the pocket or will charge..so there....my G2 is handled down to my 9 year old. Now I never want to use the G2 anymore. And beside that. GPS locks instantly on G3 and NFC work perfectly. Till now I still can't get NFC working on G2. I definitely go for G3.

Both battery and performance mate.
Compare G2 and G3 booting up speed, using the browser, launcher redraws etc. You will see how the G2 wins the race.
So in actuality. For a QHD you are giving up battery life & performance.. Now tell me who does not care about that
But hey, prove me wrong if I am wrong. I am here to learn.

Maybe i wouldn't care if the device didn't lag AS much. It's like, okay, fire up google chrome, get on a site and then it freezes, then you hit the home button, takes another 2 seconds to load up the main screen. Aight, i checked the weather, lets go back to the browser, go to another site and the **** fest begins. It's just so frustrating. I've been even thinking of just using my nexus 4 again.
I don't get why aosp can run so fluently, i'm talking MEGA FAST and the stock g3 can't. It's either optimization, that, or it's really too much for the cpu to handle g3's added features at stock resolution. I think i will leave this thread alone. This all is starting to remind me of how i bought my htc one x back then just to end up mad.
edit op: @ this point isn't it better you just wait to see what will soon be coming out in the market?

From G2 to that hahaha.
My G2 is on warranty and since they have not fixed the issue they allow me to chose a new product from the same price range. I am split between G2 and G3.
Anyway, I have said my thoughts. Will keep a close eye on the thread and hopefully more who jumped from G2 to G3 will stop by to reply :fingers-crossed:
There are apps to change your screen resolution from 1440p to 1080p if you feel it's hurting your battery life or is causing lag. Honestly, unless the size of the phone(which isn't that much bigger) just really bothers you, I don't know why you wouldn't take the upgrade.
I didn't own a G2. But comparing a nexus 5 vs G3, the G3 indeed has some hickups here and there, but it's not as problematic as it was mentioned above. My phone is fluid and runs everything without any problems. Again it's not nexus5 fluid, but as far as i know neither is the G2.
I have owned g2 and g3 for a while ( g2 for more than 6 month, g3 for 1 month). I installed cloudy g3 on both devices.
I won't consider g3 as an up-grade. G2 just runs faster on a day to day basis.( opening apps, browsing). And battery life does matter to me( and most people), g3 really sucks when compare to g2 ( usually 6 ~7 Screen on time).
G3 has better display and a faster camera. But display and camera on g2 is also very good and is more than what I need ( or most pepple needs).
Personally I would trade or sell my g3 in a few more weeks and try to get a Nexus 6.
BTW, when compare to HTC M8, g3 lags like ****.( personal experience)
M8 is by far the most responsive and least touch latency phone I ever seen/used ( not sure about iphone 6)
I had G2. Then M8. Hated camera. Got G3. Happy with the choice until a couple months in. The m8 is much better. The only thing is that 4 ultra pix got on my nerves and I just got it signing contract I let it get to my head. But it always hit 1. In benches. Pics were fast and looked great. But like I said I thought since g2 was great id be happier with g3. Nope. Lol. I love G3. But HTC is sweet. So I'm buying m9. It will be what the M8 should be been in my opinion.

Don't get the G3, it's almost at EoL (End of life). It's an excellent device, but as others stated, batter and lag are unacceptable for a flagship device. Especially after LG released the G2 & N5.
I'd suggest waiting for the asus Zenfone 2 or the LG Flex 2, they should be released in the coming few months.

Yeah I'm the class clown
The 801 in the G3 is superseded now by the 805 & 810. The device itself is being superseded by the Flex 2. So yeah, it at EoL. Mobiles are not like before, they keep improving every 6 months or so, PC's are the same but slightly slower.

End of life in my book means no official LG update support will be issued anymore for a device. CPU`s get updated all the time but that doesn`t mean the 801/805 doesn`t do the job well anymore.
I keep my G3 fairly minimal with apps so my phone is always fast and responsive. I really dont understand what the others are talking about. QHD screen doesnt in fact impact battery life, but Lollipop currently has worse battery life than KitKat. 3 gigs of RAM really add up in the performance department, I guess others just dont realise it. When I was buying phone, I was leaning to buy G2, but in the end I went for the G3 because of removable battery and expandable storage (and what a beauty it is too). I dont regret buying it at all. I was in dilemma between M8 and G3, went for G3, very satisfied. Only reason I keep it rooted to remove that oversharpening. One thing you should know too that G3's sreen has bad black color. It is so lighted it is more of a gray than black. You can try it out and see for yourself.
I've had both the G2 and the G3, and while the G2 was a great phone, I prefer the styling and camera of the G3. There are some stutters here and there but nothing major for me. I saw stutters on the G2 as well. Battery life also isn't an issue for me. I can usually get 4-5 hours of SoT, which is fine for 1 day's use. As long as it can get me through the day then that's what matters. Go G3!
If most of you stayed with KitKat, at least until lollipop is sorted out and doesn't suck, then tweaked the heck out of KitKat then none of you would be moaning.
My battery life is great, only sleep problems mainly stemming from google play service, but I can surf the net with 45% brightness for around 5-6 hours, depending on sites visited(media-heavy sites bring it down a bit). Lag is now almost gone and the phone really flies.
Can you expand storage on a G2 ?
This was one of my main reasons for dumping the nexus line and getting a G3, I now have a 64gb class 10 card in there and its bloody wonderful. No more deleting apps or music to squeeze a game or album on, like I had with my nexus 4.
Speaking of nexus 4, this G3 spanks it to death for speed, screen, expansion, options. Roms are better on nexus 4 but then it is 3 years old. I still love it and it still looks sexy for its age, but this G3 phone's screen is night and day better.
Perhaps if we all posted our tweaks we could help each other out, but lately I've noticed that not many are interested.
Nexus 6 isn't without its own problems, heck just read some threads on this forum. My G3, along with its contract, cost me nearly half of what the N6 would have cost me over 24 months.
LG should have some responsibility in this because its their damn crappy software that is most of the cause of this. And, I bet like a few here, I kind of get the feeling that LG may quietly drop this phone as soon as G4 hits the market.
I still own the G2 and currently using the G3. As others have stated the most drawback for me is the battery life. with the G2 i use 2days with 67 SOT in single charge. but with the G3 i'll use 1.5days with 5-6 SOT, but i have to charge it every night. and about the lag. honestly, it doesn't matter. waiting few miliseconds. :silly: phone is bit huge. ummm... design is way more better than the G2. oh and the camera is a huge improvement. No need to talk about the QHD display here! it's a badass. :good: the best of G3 expansion of memeory. 3GB ram. those are obviously plus points when comparing with G2. but G2 will beat the G3 in battery life and smoothness. other than that G3 is ok. Battery life is a hugh drawback for me btw!

[Q] Worth the upgrade from a G2??

Noticing a lot of parallels with this phone and the LG G2/G3. Particularly in design. I've had a lot of different phones over the past year (One M8 GPE, OPO, MotoX, Nexus 5), and I keep going back to my G2. I really love this phone, the form factor, feel, and the volume on the back, it's just such an awesome phone. So when I saw this new offering by Asus it kind of peaked my interest.
A bit on the fence though. Immediately I saw one thing I'm not too thrilled about... fat bottom bezel. Would much rather had a shorter phone with onscreen navigation. That issue aside, few questions/concerns, and any input is appreciated....
- Does Android really dramatically benefit from 4GB of memory yet? or is this more of a future proof measure?
- Atom Z3580 vs Snapdragon 800. I honestly have little to no issue with my G2, for a phone that is 2 years old, the processor holds up rather nicely. I don't know a whole lot about Atom as a mobile platform, but is this comparable or better? Same concern with the GPU, PowerVR vs Adreno... I've always been under the impression PowerVR is pretty dodgy.
- Camera is somewhat important to me. I've read mixed reviews on the Toshiba sensor in it. The G2 isn't too shabby tbh, however, I noticed the Zenfone has a much wider aperture (f2.0 vs f2.4), and the FFC is also 5MP vs the 2.1MP on the G2. Can't seem to find any definitive answer on if the Zenfone has OIS, does anyone know for certain? Opinions on the camera??
Huge selling points for me is the SD card and dual SIM, two things the G2 doesn't have. Anyone else in the same boat, debating if it's worth upgrading from a G2?
I was actually with a similar dilemma, I could get a cheap g2 or the 550ML, decided for the zenfone at the end. since I have the 2 gig version I wouldn't know about the benefits. processor is snappy and the phone flies, tried a few games on it and no issues (dead trigger 2 and plants vrs zombies). little to no heat when playing ingress (gps and data enabled, screen on most of the time). got mixed feelings on the camera. no OIS as far as I know, night mode is impressive, but noise is really noticeable.
auto no flash

the battery is actually the only issue I see. some people manage to get by, but there are some issues, asus is working on them though.
I'm happy with my purchase though.

I upgraded from my G2 but only because it randomly shuts down and reboots, among other issues. Also the SGX from imagination is what Apple uses in their mobile devices so I wouldn't call it buggy at all. Perhaps the implementation of bad drivers has caused it to be poor with some devices.
So far I've used it for a few hours & while I miss custom ROMs on the G2 the stock ASUS ROM is usable. Can't comment on the camera because I don't take pics frequently.
Performance seems better, can't say whether games are better yet until I load a few.
If your G2 doesn't have the issues mine does then I wouldn't recommend upgrading. You would be better off saving your money for the next Zen or whatever.
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"
I actually have my ZF2 CN version up on eBay right now, and am pondering whether to go with the US version or the LG G2. Lack of LTE wasn't a deal killer but the HSPA+ signal wasn't always dependable and two of my more frequently used video streaming apps force closed immediately upon opening (watch TNT) or upon loading a video (Xfinity to go). Right now I found a new Verizon G2 that also works on GSM networks for $150 and I also found a way to hide tethering on the G2 so that the carriers can't track the volume so I'm leaning that way right now.
I think I'm gonna pull the trigger and buy one. I guess if I don't like it I can always throw it on Swappa.

At the lowest brightness the ZF2 is brighter than the G2's minimum...but the ZF2's max is visibly lower than a G2 at max. This will give you an idea of how it may work outside until I try it out tomorrow.

If you care about camera, don't get this phone. I have it, and zooming into pictures shows just how horribly noisy the image is. But I knew this before buying the phone - check out the camera compare tools on gsmarena.com and you will see just how bad this sensor is. Ability to resolve detail and extreme dithering are present. Maybe the sensor is really only as good as a 5 MP. Is the camera still good enough for what I want? Yes. I bought it because it's really really cheap and overall an amazing phone for the price.

I've got the latest firmware update which seems to have reduced camera noise which is good news. I haven't looked to see how much better it is. I didn't expect they could or would improve it. Kinda happy with Asus upgrading the software 3 times since I got the phone. At least they care to fix what they can.

Anyone thinking of switching

28th the LG g4 being 2months old and how empty it seems to be on the forum ,is anyone else thinking of getting the samsung note 5. Being that o got my phone the verizon edge program. H can still return it before 30 days and h could just wait for note 5. Note sure if i should.
Any opinions?

The Verizon G4 section is quiet, but the general G4 forums are much more active.
I bought mine on Edge as well (albeit from Best Buy). This is the first I recall hearing of a 30 day return period, vs 14 days. If so, that's pretty nice.
What are your priorities in a phone? I chose the G4 largely based on the SD card and removable battery, along with the camera.
The rumors I've heard seem to imply no SD card on the Note 5, IIRC. And possibly no removable battery. Do you want a stylus?

I think youre right, its probably 14days.
I chose this phone because of camera and because i had the lg g3 before this. This phone seems a little slower than the g3. Ive had so many problems with the keyboard. Im a fast texter but this phone has me make so many typos. Sometimes the space bar won't even insert space after touching it. Seems as if it isnt very responsive to touch as the g3 was. Battery life is also very bad, Not that bad but i had more hours on the g3. The stylus wouldn't be bad i just like the bigger screen. I dont like the fact that the note 5 might not have a removable battery or support sd cards. The note 4 seems to be my best choice and suits more needs more but i just love the lg g3 and i figured that this one would be amazing. But the way the touch screen response is annoying me.

The only reason I am sticking with my G4 for now is because of the camera, it's amazing. I'm leaning more towards the Moto X Pure though.
You're going to return it.. Why? You're talking about switching to the note 5... The note 4 doesn't even have permanent root. Won't exactly get much better.

Yeah you're going to switch to a phone that doesn't even have root and will never have an unlocked BL whereas the G4 has a chance to be unlocked?

I do agree that it makes me nervous that we are 2 months in and still not much activity, especially compared to the G2 and G3, it just shows that LG phones are becoming less popular it seems.
Going to the Note 5 because of this though is completely idiotic, look at the Note 4. It still doesn't have root.
As an admitted flashaholic, I am a bit frustrated with the current state of our devices. However, the camera is so good, and I really like the leather back, that I may be satiated if Xposed starts working. I am also keeping my eyes on news of the LG built Nexus 5 (2015). I have seen conflicting reports about the camera it will be using. If it's the same, or close to the G4, I will be all over it, as long as it's supported on the Verizon network.
I used to love Samsung phones but they've finally killed everything I loved about them (sd card, removable battery, and hackability). My next phone will be the Moto X Style Pure Edition. It should be released soon and it will have a sd card slot, run pure debloated Android, likely be hackable, and only cost $400-450 without contract. It's supposed to have the best battery of any phone currently on the market.

Not exactly. The battery is about the same on the Style (Pure, whatever). The Play edition is getting the crazy big battery. Honestly, I wouldn't have my G4 if not for the fact that the 1) Play is not available in the US and 2) the Style mysteriously has the smaller battery of the two devices.
Otherwise,... I'm really quite happy with my G4. It's definitely got bloat... but it's nowhere near the nastiness that was TouchWiz (my last phone was an S5), and I've been pleasantly surprised at how little it has, and how much of it is easily disabled. Woohoo! no more baby detector!!

Oops, crossed my facts. 3000 mah should be plenty with Turbo charging. The phone is a beast (in terms of specs). Add in Pure Android and (hopefully) and unlockable bootloader and its the right phone for me.

To be honest, I dont care about 4k display, I still think the G2 had a better display than the G4. I wonder would a 1080p screen give us 10-20% more battery life or have they really optimized our display.
I wouldnt have mind the same phone crammed into G2 body just with cpu/gpu/chipset upgrade with camera upgrade. 100 dollars less too. I guess that is asking for a lot =P.
Thanks.

[Q] LG G3 for 2016?

Hi guys, thinking of purchasing a brand new LG G3 since I'm not happy with the Zenfone Selfie (looks better on paper but lags).
Would like to know/get some feedback from long time users regarding this unit. How has it been for you?
I will not be regularly flashing roms (I no longer have the time for this), but I will flash the most stable rom around (doesn't matter even if its kitkat )
I need good GPS (i use google maps for work, daily)
I need dual sim. (id have gotten the nexus 5x.)
is the g3 still good for 2016?
I don't play games but I multi task a lot. Facebook messenger (unfortunately need it for work), Facebook pages manager, Maps, Calls, text messaging, viber. On my zefone selfie, I get lags. My nexus 7 actually runs smoother!
Thank you! id appreciate any reply.
* I am afraid to buy the G4 because of the bootloop issues.
* g5 is out of the budget
honestly that depends on the price you're paying for the g3... if you can root it and flash fulmics, then you'll get better performance than stock kitkat.

that depends.. if you want a better camera, removable battery, nfc, a 2k screen go with g3.
if you want excellent battery backup, fingerprint scanner, better gaming performance, then go with redmi note 3. but if you're not a fan of miui, then you might wanna root it and go with custom rom path...
redmi note 3 also has excellent developer support imo.
dont buy better go with one plus one ... 2k display in this device ruined the true potential of the chip ... it drains battery and gaming performance also gets down as GPU has to render on 2k display ,,, OPO has same spec with 1080p display .. which is better .. battery backup is awesome .. but camera is no better than G3 ...
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
I'm not much into camera or gaming. I almost never play games. looking for a unit that can handle mutli tasking well (sms/facebook/viber/maps).
Will look into the other
will definitely flash a custom rom, and get as close to google (no other stuff) as possible.

I was choosing between G3 and Redmi 3S and i went for G3 (because i had experience with Nexus 4 and G2).
I am happy with my G3, however the Xiaomi phones are excellent. You should try them out first before making the decision.
I have a G3 with 6.0 MM v30N stock firmware ( 3 GB ram) and I have to say that if you use a lot apps like Google Maps with gps always on and using 4G too you will have a big battery drain due to 2k display also considerig that you use also socials like Facebook and Messenger a lot, so I don't know if G3 is the best choose for you right now cause I think you wouldn't be able to cover all the day with your use of the phone. I hope I have helped you and sorry for my english
G3 is a great phone but it is really great for taking pictures !
At the time (2-3 years ago) it was considered as the best of its class ... with similar or better perfomances than Apple & Samsung for quality pictures and clips.
Speaking of camera, the only thing nicer in G4, the follower to G3, is that it supports camera2 api (useful for manual settings). But then, there were so many problems of "motherboard giving boot loop issues" that the G4 is really useless or rather a bet on money (except if your mother board has a serial starting with numbers 505 up to 508 ...., then you are sure you pulled the wrong number and will have bootloop issue and death.
Beware, every "new" phone, though really expensive, comes bundled with deadly issues ! G4, for sure, but Samsung as well ... like S5 (the equivalent of G3, or S6 = G5 or S7 ... A search for "common problems" is really creepy !
Back to G3, a nice thing also, it that the back is not "glued" as in Sony Z1-Z2- etc. or Samsung S5-S6-S7 or plenty new phones. So, ok, you cannot take a bath with it or take pictures underwater, but so the battery can be taken away and changed easily (a plain second battery .always charged ... is a nice thing).
For the rest, all 2-3 years old top phones ( handle quite well everything common such as calling, surfing, playing, etc ... (same thing as with PC). Except if you are a gamer, dont get fooled by power !
Development for G3 will decrease quite rapidly because it is already an end of life product and it will be only occasionally developped by developpers who really love new things and new possibilites (Think of Nougat coming out these days)
Launched with KK android system, fully supporting LP it handles quite well MM (=Marshmallow)!
There's plenty to say yet, but everything really depends on your needs and the money you have.
This is just as buying a second hand car .... AND DON'T FORGET TO GOOGLE for " xyz COMMON PROBLEMS" where xyz is replaced by G3, or ... G4, or Gç, or S5, S6, S7 (for Samsung)
Have a nice day !
i had galaxy j7 2016 and i switched it with LG G3 , really happy with it
There's some catch imo: Cracks shows up in sides, back cover is easily cracks.... But mostly great phone for office worker, nice display, loud speaker, easy to handle, double tap to wake is nice, like in meeting, having it on the table, double tap doesn't distract as much as having phone in hands, and double tap to sleep... As multitask use is decent, but more ram might be needed, I think. Switching from one to other apps is good too. Now some custom roms have dual-screen options (two apps in one screen), but I can't remember which one...

" loud speaker " ... as you say. And the G3 got it !
And I even set all volumes to 64 with LG G3 Volume Booster mod !
with the amount of tweaks you can make the G3 depending on the version out perform a lot of the other flagships
It is still relevant in 2016, or even 2017. G3 is on the list that will get Nougat.
