[Q] Can't get my Books from Amazon. Help Desk No help - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Kindle Fire is completely stock, ie. not rooted. For some reason, I can not get Amazon to send my Books to my Kindle. This Kindle originally belonged to my daughter. She gave it to me and I did a Factory Reset on it, and registered it to my Amazon Account. I have other Android devices, and I can get books I have purchased from Amazon onto those devices, but I can't get them to come to the Kindle Fire. Spent about an hour (maybe more like 1/2 hour) on the phone with Amazon Help Desk, but they weren't able to help at all. They just had me do more Factory Resets, then log on to my Amazon account, go to Manage Devices and Content and request the books I want from there, but that didn't work. They said they would call me back, but never did. Hopefully someone here can help me. Also, is there supposed to be a "Book" folder on the Kindle Fire? If there is, I sure can't find it. I guess, what I'm asking is, where are the books I have purchased "supposed" to be stored on the Fire itself? Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

What system version?
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

Thank you sd_shadow for your quick reply. The System Version is 6.3.3_user_4112920. I have also noticed that when I am on the "Home Page", and I tap Books or Newsstand, then tap on "Store", nothing happens, it won't take me to the "Store". If I tap Music, Video, or Apps, then I can go to the Store in those catagories. Don't know if that is related to the No Books problem or not.

Hopefully someone will has some suggestions, I have used Amazon store very little.
My guess is that the 6.3.3 update did not install correctly, and factory resets will not fix what is not there.
Reinstalling stock firmware involves several steps, I have written instructions and posted youtube videos for every step.
1. Installing correct drivers,
2. Rooting-http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire/development/how-to-kindle-fire-1-update-6-3-3-t2814955
3. Forcing Fastboot Mode,
4. Flashing a custom recovery and custom bootloader- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54124313&postcount=3
5. Installing stock rom in custom recovery, I would use my pre-rooted 6.3.3, it safer, than pure stock, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793648
It is possible there is an easier solution, but if factory reset didn't work, that is unlikely.

Thank you for your suggestions. I did use your video on Youtube to root and install Pacman ROM on my wife's old kindle. Worked great. Thank you for that. If I don't get this one working correctly, I'll just trash it. Not really a big deal for me, but I like to "tinker".

follow the below steps using your PC or MAC:
1- download a launcher from the market such as AWD launcher to your PC
2- connect your KF to your PC
3- make sure you can communicate to you KF via adb command I.e. adb devices. After executing ad devices command, you will see your KF S/N.

They are models sent to stores for display, More than likely this was stolen from such a place would be my guess.
Rooting would always fix it as well.

This is My first post and im allittle nervous so......
My girlfriend was cheated out of some money when she bought a Fire Hd 8.9 from some girl. it turned out to be the Demo version.
I was able to remove the demo by going to the app store, it asked to set up wifi so i did that, loading file manager then going online downloading 1market app apk. they asked for permission to allow non market apk to be installed so i granted that.
then i went to amazon downloaded newest version of fire 8.9 placed it on update folder from my file manager.
then i downloaded adw launcher apk from 1market store.
This launcher allowed me to access device from settings and from there i updated my kindle fire. it removed the demo version and now running latest version and no demo.
I did all this after rooting the device but i see no way that this method wont work on non rooted devices.
Only difference is that there is no lock screen on the kindle. but besides that works great......
This answering questions thing is hard please dont ever make me do this again....

Nice job on a well laid out and helpful first post!
First off, however, you have a KFHD demo, which may or may not be the same as original KF demos.
In my case here, it is not the same, because it would not let me access the app store or internet, because it isn't available in my demo version. Just sayin'
I am not looking for anwers, just providing others with some more knowledge.

I have just purchased an 8.9 Demo unit which has not arrived yet.
I am not aware that the demo unit allow one to go to the web at all.
Thus, I am wondering how you were able to get the tablet to browse and download anything?
I would love to be able to turn my Demo unit into a working tablet but, it sure seems like without ADB debugging, this will not be possible.
Another question is how did you get the unit rooted as a demo unit?
Again, without ADB debugging on, how do you root?
I traveled to a store to look at a KDF 8.9 Demo unit.
The Demo tablet does have a web access ICON.
One Demo unit had access to wifi and the net but had parental controls on which prevented access to settings for non-market apps, etc.
The second DEMO unit did not allow access to the web and there was also no access to settings.
When a URL was typed into the address bar, the typical "error 404 , no access found message"
Either way, it did was not clear if a new or stock firmware could be loaded.
I hope someone can provide more detail on the specifics of removing or overriding the DEMO firmware.

Kindle Books/Docs not showing up.

I've browsed through the threads and seen hints of people having this problem, and I wanted to make a thread around it. The problem being that Documents and/or Books not being seen on Cloud/Device.
I bought my KF for reading purposes, full functional Tablet second. So this is rather frustrating.
Some posts have hinted that this may be rom specific. But I haven't flashed any roms. Only rooted with SU.
I did wipe and re-root with SU, and my books/docs came back for 2 days but now they're gone again.
I've seen others have this problem. Is there a fix?
- D
this only happened to me when i mistakenly turned on "Update Automatically" in Google Play/Market and it auto-updated the kindle app to the one for normal android devices. once i uninstalled this update, (and turned off auto-update), everything went back to normal.
I'm not sure about the stock ROM, but any other ROM has a kindle directory on the sdcard. Might wanna check if your books are missing from that directory.
i.e. sdcard/kindle/

I am having a similar issue.
The problem is that, even tho the Docs are showing up at the Amazon Launcher, once i click on them, nothing happens. Not even downloading them works.
What is going on here ?
[EDIT 1] The only way i can see them, is to use the "kindle" app that is on my app drawer.
With this app i can download the documents and open them, but not when i'm on the "Amazon Launcher"

That worked for to get things started, I then de-registered and registered. That brought everything back. Bottom line, I guess, don't let market update the kindle app.

Hi All,
System info: KFU 0.9.6; Kindle Fire 1st gen, OS 6.3.1; Google Play -> Auto-update apps -> not checked
I successfully rooted my device and my books and docs are showing up in my Kindle (using Launcher) but they do not open. When I try to open them, all I get is the the orange color kindle logo. The device just hangs there. It is registered with my kindle device e-mail recognized.
When I try to open the Kindle app after selecting the Go Launcher EX, the app tells me that the device isn't registered. Would appreciate any advice on how to be able to open books and docs in Kindle and Android environments (if I'm saying that right). Thanks in advance.

[Q] Restore to Stock Kindle Fire

Are there any ways to restore the kindle fire to stock out of the box?
I saw one thread that talked about unbricking a kindle fire in the android development forum but i am not sure if it is the same, and it seems to not work for the people.
My kindle was rooted, and thats when the books stopped showing up, now it got unrooted by OTA update to 6.3.1 and i still cant get books to show. I dont know what to do.
I just want to start over with my kindle if possible and get back to the basics. Please help!
If your unrooted why not factory restore? And do you mean Google books? Don't think it will work on your kindle now that its not rooted? Could be wrong but I don't believe you have the Google framework on your device anymore . The kindle app should work just fine for books but different account unfortunately.
Read over this thread and see if you can sort out your "books" issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25778125
Rooting shouldn't affect how your books are shown and it is more likely a software issue. If you still can't get it fixed or you are just unhappy with being rooted, come back and we can get you fixed up.
Thanks pooch!
I didnt even think about being able to do the basic factory reset. I was stuck with the thinking about how it is unable to be done while rooted.

[Q] Paid Apps from Google Play?

I have looked around this site and the entirety of the world wide web and haven't found an answer for this. Maybe I looked two hard and missed the forest for the trees, but I don't know. So, here goes:
I have rooted my Kindle Fire and installed Google Play/Android Market. It works great and I am able to download free apps at will. When ever I try to purchase an app, however, I get the message "Error. An error occurred. Please try again." This goes for new apps purchased directly from the market and for apps which link to the market for purchase (Avengers Live Wallpaper, for example).
I am able to purchase apps using my computer and they download to my Kindle just fine, but that process won't work with the Avengers wallpaper, for example. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks.
Just a shot in the dark here...have never seen or heard of this one...
Did you set up a payment method in Google Wallet? If not, just go to your Gmail account on a PC, click More at the top and select Wallet. From there you can manage your payment method and enter a credit card number, etc., or update an expiration date, etc.
If you already did that, about the only thing I can think for you to try is to go into Settings | Apps | Google Play and Clear cache. If that doesn't work, I would go back in and Clear data (and cache if it has something in it again).
At least if you haven't seen it before, there is a good chance I didn't miss something about this problem.
1) My Google Wallet is set up and works fine from my computer. I even tried changing my credit card just to see if that helped; no such luck. Google Wallet is not the problem.
2) I have tried to clear the cache, tried clearing data and cache, and then restarted. Tried again and had the same error. Cleared everything again, tried again; no luck. Did it a third time, including another restart: still have the problem.
Thanks, but any other ideas out there?
Next question...and more shot in the dark stuff...
I take it you have not loaded a custom rom, so you grabbed Google Play (vendor.apk) and the Google Services Framework .apk and side loaded it to your KF. Before I loaded a custom rom, I did the same thing. Which version of the Google Framework did you load? I know that when I did it, I was careful to grab the GingerBread version, since the Amazon Stock KF OS is GB based. If you grabbed the ICS version, perhaps the payment processing is different between the two, but they are close enough that you can download free apps.
Perhaps you used the Kindle Fire Utility, so you may have no clue as to what I am talking about! I don't think KFU did the market install back then, I had to to it manually.
Unfortunately, I cannot remember if I actually bought a Google Android app and downloaded it when I was still stock. I did download paid apps, but they were processed on another device prior to that. If I had tried to pay and download, I might very well have gotten the same error as you.
Shots in the dark are still better than what I've got so far.
You are correct in that I have not installed a custom ROM and that I installed the Google stuff using the Kindle Fire Utility, (and that I have no idea about the differences). I would assume that the software used by the KFU developer was the GB based Google Services Framework (since you said the Fire is based on GB).
What's annoying is that I don't really buy many paid apps, and the few I do, I can buy from my PC. The main thing I want to do is get the unlocked Avengers Live Wallpaper (my 4 and 5-year old boys keep asking why they can't see Capt. America and Iron Man). To get the $.99 unlocked wallpaper, you have to link from the app (no direct paid download), so I can't get around this problem.
I appreciate the help and if you have any more shots in the dark, I'd love to hear them.
You can try to install this zip thru TWRP. This is what I have setup on my modified stock 6.3.1. This is the latest Google Play version.
I tired several more ideas, all to no avail. Thankfully, though, I reset my Kindle and started over and now it works.
Don't know what was wrong, but grateful for the help.

[Q] Kindle hd 8.9 stuck in slow mode after failed re root

My kindle hd 8.9 was re rooted using bin4ry v31 after the last ota update 8.4.8. It worked fine. Now there was another ota update to 8.4.9 on 6/14/14. I tried using the same method as before. ADB is enabled in my kindle, I am seeing Android Composite ADB interface. when I plug the kindle in. I got through part of the re root, where it rebooted, and now it is extremely slow, has a black screen with white cracked lines to slide in open, and although some things work they are very very slow. Please can someone either help me re root or unroot it so that the kindle runs normally. I don't know what mode that slow one is, but you can't do much of anything. I tried to roo a few times, and tried to put in the stock kindle update and re run it, but nothing is working to get it out of the slow mode. Right now my computer can see and put things onto the kindle, and when trying to root, it seems like it is trying to work, but since the kindle is slow, I don't know if it is getting stuck and not finishing.
Can you help me figure out what is wrong?

Yep sucks for us for now it seems
Mine is in the same state. To unslow mo it all i found that works is using recovery mode to erase every single thing on it. This will speed it back up to normal. Beyond that i don't have a clue what to do.
You can enter recovery mode if you dont know how by pressing volume down and power. Or dl droid explorer run it click the multi colored shield icon and reboot to recovery.
I would hold off for now though. As one of these guys may have a way to save you all the head aches i have now. Oh worst bit loosing my crisis core newgame + save lvl 35+ with all items etc etc. Was gona put the hurt on every thing LOL

Factory reset is always better than flashing and other serious tinkering. kindle hd 8.9 is still rootable with 8.4.9 update, I did it and another member KatanAlive have done it.
What method did you use to root? There are a few different methods. used bin4ry v31 I used the old special option, then also tried the old option.

Ive tried various tools etc. While it seems i am able to get root i can not for example view the root directory in adb shell. I can kill any process under ps list even ones ran by root. Again the root directory shows as empty under ls. Running the superuser app that does show under apps seems t do nothing (im assuming this is because root is already active by this point) It does load but nothing in log window. Also it remains stuck running extremely slow. I can not install google frame work etc.
What i want to do is just go with a custom rom and be done with this mess. After all if amazon managed to force updates on kindles with ota disabled and blocked once they will likely be able to do so again. So theres zero point in staying on a stock rom even downgraded and or rooted.
Now the only problem there is it seems rom update requires fastboot? If this is not the case what are the steps to go about it by a different means? Or what methods other than fastboot cables are there to force it in to fastboot with out ripping in to the kindlefire hd 8.9 in my case?

I used manual method described in this thread and yesterday another member also used this same method to root the Kindle with update 8.4.9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117
I have been extensively reading this forum for rooting Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and I have seen people failed just because of a simple mistake or not starting afresh. Many people were able to overcome their anomalous problem just by a factory reset and then starting again the process of rooting.
No one knows at which step problem started to appear until you clarify completely that what method you were following, or did you install some other drivers mentioned in another method, or did you interrupted the progress, or any other tinkering you had had done earlier with Kindle.
Every method pre assumes that your device is in default condition and your PC has favourable environment for the completion of the rooting process. Like a meber was following the process of rooting and when a stage came to enter his Amazon password, he entered the password but the process could not be continued, because his Kindle was not registered , so even after entering the correct password the process was aborted. Later he registered his Kindle and started agin and it was rooted.
So true what you've said about it not being a fresh root. I am going to try a few more times to root, then do a factory reset. My kindle could use a fresh start, but I thought I'd try just for future knowledge. If anyone else comes back from the slow kindle stage, please contribute what you've done to fix it because it may help someone else resolve their issues.
I decided to do a full restore. Then I was able to use a bin4ry script for kindles to root. Now I am having difficulty getting google play to work again. I keep getting an error not enough space on the partition \system. Free up 6MB in system and try again. I put a version of google market on to see if there would be a difference. I was able to open it, but nothing will download. Anyone else have any experience with this problem?

I too have had this low space problem after updating to 8.4.9. I was despaired but after searching the internet for 2/3 hours I found the solution. First thing you need to do is to get Titanium Backup from somewhere. It has the capacity to convert system app to user app and this will free up some ROM space so you can install Google Play afterward. Convert one by one some system apps that are not critical to Kindle's functioning, to user app. For example, you can convert Silk browser, Amazon Video, Amazon music, Kindle tutorial, Office Suite to user app. The moment you have above 20 MB free space in ROM you can install there Google Play. I am not sure if a free version of Titanium Backup have this functionality or not, I have installed a pro version of it. If free version is of no use then get a pro version from somewhere. I think you know where to get it from. Good Luck.
Wow thanks so much for the info. I did not have the pro version of titanium. Instead I used /system /app mover which is a free app. I changed a few system files to user files like suggested and am now able to use google play. I made sure I could download apps from it also, and it worked just fine. Now I have to re download apps I lost when I had to restore.
