I've browsed through the threads and seen hints of people having this problem, and I wanted to make a thread around it. The problem being that Documents and/or Books not being seen on Cloud/Device.
I bought my KF for reading purposes, full functional Tablet second. So this is rather frustrating.
Some posts have hinted that this may be rom specific. But I haven't flashed any roms. Only rooted with SU.
I did wipe and re-root with SU, and my books/docs came back for 2 days but now they're gone again.
I've seen others have this problem. Is there a fix?
- D
this only happened to me when i mistakenly turned on "Update Automatically" in Google Play/Market and it auto-updated the kindle app to the one for normal android devices. once i uninstalled this update, (and turned off auto-update), everything went back to normal.
I'm not sure about the stock ROM, but any other ROM has a kindle directory on the sdcard. Might wanna check if your books are missing from that directory.
i.e. sdcard/kindle/

This post was gold.
Thanks.

I am having a similar issue.
The problem is that, even tho the Docs are showing up at the Amazon Launcher, once i click on them, nothing happens. Not even downloading them works.
What is going on here ?
[EDIT 1] The only way i can see them, is to use the "kindle" app that is on my app drawer.
With this app i can download the documents and open them, but not when i'm on the "Amazon Launcher"

That worked for to get things started, I then de-registered and registered. That brought everything back. Bottom line, I guess, don't let market update the kindle app.

How to open books in Kindle (Launcher) and Android (Go Launcher EX) environs

Hi All,
System info: KFU 0.9.6; Kindle Fire 1st gen, OS 6.3.1; Google Play -> Auto-update apps -> not checked
I successfully rooted my device and my books and docs are showing up in my Kindle (using Launcher) but they do not open. When I try to open them, all I get is the the orange color kindle logo. The device just hangs there. It is registered with my kindle device e-mail recognized.
When I try to open the Kindle app after selecting the Go Launcher EX, the app tells me that the device isn't registered. Would appreciate any advice on how to be able to open books and docs in Kindle and Android environments (if I'm saying that right). Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry, but when I open Google Play I only have the option "open" available on the kindle app...
I deselected the automatic update but I'm still unable to reinstall the original kindle app and see the books.

Forgive me if this has already been gone over but I cannot seem to find any other discussion about it. I am running the energy ICS rom for my kindle fire and I can no longer run HBO GO since the last play store update.
I uninstalled the play store app and tried to get the app from amazon but it of course says my device is not compatible. I tried side loading an apk for the amazon store version and it does finally launch, but force closes shortly after. I've been trying to find a more updated version of the amazon store HBO GO apk but no luck. I figured maybe if I could get the newest apk that might work. Anyone else with this problem? What am I missing here? Any help would be much appreciated.
You should get gederom. It works with gederom I think.

I'll try that. Is this a nice looking rom like energy? Eh I'll just give it a shot. Can always go back.
No luck on gederom either. HBOGO just says "HBOGO has stopped working" when you try to launch. If you try to do a report you get "Google Play store has stopped responding".
Any other suggestions? I wonder if someone could get the latest apk for HBO go on kindle from the amazon store if that would work. Is there any one that can point me in the direction or maybe somehow rip the latest version apk. The one out for download that I have seen before is outdated and also force closes.
EDIT: Any way to make the Amazon app store think I am running stock kindle fire? I'm just amazed I cannot find anyone else asking about this issue. I can't be the only person with a custom rom kindle fire that wants to use HBOGO can I?
EDIT2: Going to try using IMEI Generator to get amazon app store to let me load the app. Hope this works.

I've been having this issue since they made it official for JB. It ran while I was using twa_priv's JB ROM, but not so much on any other ROM. There's a permissions issue that's causing the app to crash on a lot of JB ROMs, but there's a patch/hack that needs to be applied to it for it to work. It's currently above my smarts range just looking at the coding, but I'm sure one of the devs will figure it out way before I even crack the surface on changing code level permissions.

Well I didn't get Amazon App store to recognize my custom rom Kindle as a stock Kindle, but it didn't matter after all. The following fix makes the Google Play store HBOGO app work again. Credit goes to user diesteldorf for helping me figure this out.
"First, your Kindle Fire has to be rooted but I assume it is. Second, you must have an app called Root Explorer installed.
The file you want to edit is the build.prop file. Go into the Root Explorer app and search for it. It will usually be somewhere in the system directory.
Next you'll want to edit the file. Root Explorer should keep a backup of the original build.prop file but you may want to keep a backup just in case.
Here is a link to what should be the stock build.prop for the Kindle Fire. You'll want to read it using a text editor or MS Office.
Here are the settings you'll be interested in changing:
ro.product.model=Full Android on Blaze or SDP
ro.product.brand=generic
ro.product.name=blaze
ro.product.device=blaze
ro.product.manufacturer=TI
Then Save the changes to the build.prop file and reboot your device."
Once you have done this simply uninstall the HBOGO app from your device if you haven't already and reinstall. Should fire up like normal now.
Once again thank you diesteldorf. I was about to pull my hair out(okay not really).
EDIT: One other thing of note, I actually went back to my backup of energy rom so I am assuming this method should work for any ICS rom but can't be 100% sure of course.
I am having this same problem using hashcodes jb rom. I will give this a try and hopefully this will solve my problem. I need my HBO fix!

The funny thing I found out is doing this fix makes the MAX GO app stop working. I gotta say if someone knows an easy fix that wouldn't interfere with this HBO GO fix i'll take it, but to be honest I really don't care about MAX GO at this point.
Also my feeling is that MAX GO will probably get the same store update that HBO GO got and maybe it will just start working again anyways.

This worked for me on CM9, Android 4.0.3, kernel 2.6.35.7. After editing the build.prop it wasn't working until I rebooted
[EDIT] I totally didn't realize this was my first-ever posting here. I got LOTS of help from XDA-DEV forums on various devices!
I just installed the Nexus 7 JRO03S ROM on a Nexus 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913562) and reset everything to factory but the Amazon Kindle App v3.6.0.87 doesn't seems to play nice with me. I can open the apps without any problem but when I open a book, it briefly shows "loading" and then the program exit.
No problem opening PDF files with Amazon Kindle however. So I am not sure what is wrong. I tried other books and ALL shows the same issue.
Anybody having this issue?

Thanks guys. I made some adjustment to my posting and hopefully its clearer now. Basically, I flash the JRO03S ROM on the Nexus 7. It has worked fine for me. Might try uninstalling then reinstalling the app.

I agree with reinstalling the app, updates can do funky things. I'm still on the D build so I can't test it, but I can't see why a minor bug fixing/driver update build would break Kindle.
Thanks all. It doesn't work for me. I tried reinstalling the app, resetting the device to factory etc and all doesn't work. I am back to 03D now and its ok. I suspect its the problem with the the firmware that I download. Maybe the official one would be different than the one leaked on the internet

I had the same problem with a stock ROM that had been prerooted, so I went and downloaded the latest ROM from google and installed that and then rooted it myself - then I could run Amazon Kindle app.
Others who had installed the prerooted ROM said they couldnt run the Kindle app either.
Funny thing is, I am now on JRO03D (not rooted) and Amazon Kindle app will work.
Maybe I need to try to root the JRO03S and root it... Will try later

When some other users brought this up in the thread of this ROM the guy who made the ROM thought it may have been the way he put it together, he said he was going to investigate, but I went back to stock and so lost interest in that thread. I've tried looking for the thread but can't seem to find it, but it was on XDA in the Nexus 7 forum.
Everything was finally just like I wanted it on my rooted Kindle -- had Google Store running just fine, loved it. Then along comes an update pushed out by Amazon that unroots my Kindle. Now about once every 5-20 minutes it pops up with "Application Vending stopped unexpectedly." Whatever; I re-rooted it no problem (Thanks KFU!), reinstalled GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Vending.apk -- but the Google Store ('Vending') still force-closes every time I open it and occasionally at random.
Any ideas on how to get Vending to work properly again?
Thanks!!
Perhaps reinstall gapps.

I apologize for my idiocy. I've already reinstalled GoogleServicesFramework.apk and Vending.apk. Is 'gapps' something different from those two?

Gapps stands for Google apps. You can download and flash them in TWRP. I suggest that you install GR9 Modaco.
It is exactly like stock, but Play Store works fine and you'll never get unrooted.

Sweet! I Googled the term (GR9 Modaco), but for some reason I can't download it -- every time I try, I get redirected to an advertisement and the download never starts. Is there somewhere other than the dev's page that I can get it from?
Thanks!
That advertizement is a captcha fill in what it says make sure you select regular download.
Hello. I just received my kindle fire hd 8.9". I was trying to see what I can do with the device. I am very new to tablets. I did a root with the binary tool... Then I installed KindleFree which automatically installed google apps, Apex Launcher, etc. I figured I can just do a factory reset and everything would be gone. Well its not. The super user i still listed along with the other google apps, market place, etc. I want it back to the factory state. How can I achieve this? I downloaded the update from Amazon hopefully I can use this some how? Can someone provide a step by step?

go over to the Kindle fire first aid thread and follow the steps to restore to 8.1.4 then let it automatically update to 8.3.0
I have tried everything. I ran the restore 8.1.4 it said it install successfully, but now I am just stuck on the kindlefire white and orange screen, boot screen. Nothing is happening. I let it sit on this screen for 10 minutes.
My Kindle Fire is completely stock, ie. not rooted. For some reason, I can not get Amazon to send my Books to my Kindle. This Kindle originally belonged to my daughter. She gave it to me and I did a Factory Reset on it, and registered it to my Amazon Account. I have other Android devices, and I can get books I have purchased from Amazon onto those devices, but I can't get them to come to the Kindle Fire. Spent about an hour (maybe more like 1/2 hour) on the phone with Amazon Help Desk, but they weren't able to help at all. They just had me do more Factory Resets, then log on to my Amazon account, go to Manage Devices and Content and request the books I want from there, but that didn't work. They said they would call me back, but never did. Hopefully someone here can help me. Also, is there supposed to be a "Book" folder on the Kindle Fire? If there is, I sure can't find it. I guess, what I'm asking is, where are the books I have purchased "supposed" to be stored on the Fire itself? Thank you for any help anyone can offer.
What system version?

Thank you sd_shadow for your quick reply. The System Version is 6.3.3_user_4112920. I have also noticed that when I am on the "Home Page", and I tap Books or Newsstand, then tap on "Store", nothing happens, it won't take me to the "Store". If I tap Music, Video, or Apps, then I can go to the Store in those catagories. Don't know if that is related to the No Books problem or not.

Hopefully someone will has some suggestions, I have used Amazon store very little.
My guess is that the 6.3.3 update did not install correctly, and factory resets will not fix what is not there.
Reinstalling stock firmware involves several steps, I have written instructions and posted youtube videos for every step.
1. Installing correct drivers,
2. Rooting-http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire/development/how-to-kindle-fire-1-update-6-3-3-t2814955
3. Forcing Fastboot Mode,
4. Flashing a custom recovery and custom bootloader- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54124313&postcount=3
5. Installing stock rom in custom recovery, I would use my pre-rooted 6.3.3, it safer, than pure stock, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793648
It is possible there is an easier solution, but if factory reset didn't work, that is unlikely.
Thank you for your suggestions. I did use your video on Youtube to root and install Pacman ROM on my wife's old kindle. Worked great. Thank you for that. If I don't get this one working correctly, I'll just trash it. Not really a big deal for me, but I like to "tinker".
