Guessing this is BS: "lollipop for Fire Phone" - Amazon Fire Phone

I don't see any other indication n my searches that there is a working Clockwork mod recovery for this phone, so I'm guessing this is BS. I only ask because Amazon is offering the device SIM unlocked, no contract right now for a fairly attractive price..
http://www.rom-lollipop.org/mp3-0/amazon-fire-phone-6453.html
:fingers-crossed:

Seriously doubt that's legit. Step 4 would just boot you to Amazon's boot loader I think. I'd be all over this phone at $199 Sim unlocked if I could get cm or lollipop

Saw the same thing in moto photon q forum . BS.

Just a future reference for those that read this....
This is one of those URLs where you can edit it to anything imaginable and it will show up within the sites content. Change it to "amazing-flip-phone-6435.html" and you will know what I mean. A lot of people will get fooled out of desperation.

Pretty sure this is exactly the same one I saw the other day that I was contemplating posting about
All the download links are "survey locked" downloads so you'd never even be able to try it out, never mind the bull**** premise

[Q] Willing to join in on bounty for BL unlock and then CM on Fire Phone?

I don't have a Fire Phone, I have a Nexus 5.
With that said, I'm a religious Amazon Prime shopper, and honestly, the specs on this thing are pretty good. With pricing as it is right now, this could be extremely attractive as a means to offset the cost of a Prime membership.
I'm guessing it could also be a potential money maker for reselling. $200 for a Snapdragon 800 phone with stock-ish Android on it sounds good to me, if I didn't have any flashing/rooting know-how.
Want to start a bounty?
There needs to be a bootloader unlock first before any ROMs can be considered, so I think any bounty would need to start with the bootloader first
clearly a tough question to answer, but what is the likelihood of that happening? I may replace a couple phones with the deal going on now if the consensus (by those who actually have experience with this type of thing) is that in a little bit one could overcome the bootloader and install a custom rom.

This is not necessarily the case: as long as you have root, you can load other Android versions after the phone is booted. This has for example been done on the Motorola Defy back in the day. (They called it 2nd-init)

Fair enough, though my basic point was simply that we can't jump straight to custom ROMs, some initial development needs to happen first. In your case, we would need a root method to be developed (since 3.6.8 can no longer be downgraded to 3.5.0) and a 2nd init package developed. Any bounty should target that first before targeting custom ROMs.
Put me down for $10. for root & unlocked boot loader. Another $10. for CM12!
Same! $20 for CM before 2014 ends.

Me too.
As OP, I'll throw down $100
So is there anyone capable of unlocking the bootloader? Are there methods left to try? Where'd be the best place to petition Amazon to unlock the bootloader so they can unload these phones from their inventory? The phone is back to $200 today, if we could unlock the bootloader and load ROMs, this would become a very popular phone.
I'm in for $20.
Since it looks like no one is trying to unlock the bootloader the hard way... I made a petition directly to Amazon. Please add your signature and spread the word so that Amazon knows that people would like this to happen.

Boot Loader

Hello all,
Given that Amazon has just slashed the price on what is in reality a powerful phone, what is the likelihood that we could see an unlocked bootloader (from the community) in the near future. CM would really make this phone fly.
I got the Fire Phone, as it was a $100 for me (i consider the 99$ amazon prime that comes with it, like renewing my existing one that expires on Jan 1st anyway).
As an excited developer, I actually am planning to devote time to trying to flash Custom Recoveries (or at least boot them), and getting Android Lollipop on it. Those are my 2 goals. I have no clue if I will achieve them, as this is my first strong attempt at making something custom, but I will try. I have android 5.0 and fireos sources downloaded. I will try to pull all the system level stuff on my phone from it (incase I need drivers or something), and take a stab. If I can get Lollipop stock working, I will then move to CM 12 and do that.
My goal is for 5.x support. If I can pull it off, I don't want to foray into anything less than Android 5.0.
Wish me luck.
As for bootloader unlock, I haven't checked, but it might be as simple as fastboot oem unlock. Here's to hoping.
Great to hear! Thank you for dedicating your time, I am hopping after end of this semester I will be able to join in this endeavor.
Best of luck!

Just a heads up, the bootloader is locked down pretty tight. Unlocking it will require finding and using an exploit. there is a guy on the HDX forum that found an exploit for that Tablet that would work for the Fire Phone, but he decided for legal reasons to not release it anywhere, so both devices are in limbo. Wish i knew even at which exploit to look into and I would do the rest myself.
if it is locked so tight, what is the point of giving away as open source

If it was as simple as a 'fastboot oem unlock' we wouldn't be here half a year later discussing this to begin with. All I'm saying, of course that wasn't going to work.
Glad you're attempting this. If I can help, please let me know. Unless people smarter than me can unlock the bootloader, you might be creating one great virtual machine that won't make it to this nice piece of hardware.
I bought this phone to learn more about the same things you plan to do. I dislike the fireos (and the glitches in the use of the side-loaded gapps) enough to return the phone, but the cheap price, dreaming of a decent OTA update in January, and folks like you working on it makes me think I'll hang on to it as a backup.
I just got a fire phone as well. Hope this forum will get more traction as Amazon release its FireOS source...
"My name is 4.1chan, I will hack this device because I am great developer. Trust me, I took a Jawa class in Kindergarten and passed."
Seriously though, can't see this happening any time soon. You need experienced people, not someone who says they can do it even though they don't even know the boot loader is locked like Ford Knox. Big talk has always led to big disappointment in my experience on xda-developers. Don't get your hopes up, the phone is basically rubbish as it is (even more with simlock), so don't just buy because it is cheap.
Agreed, I am not expecting much on the unlocking front. If it happens great, if not oh well. But I would not call this phone rubbish, it's fast cheap and runs everything I need perfectly. Sure it doesn't have that perfect Android feel, but who cares. Plus the auto scroll feature is pretty handy.
The phone's spec is great for the $200 unlocked price but NO ROM, NO BUY MAN.

1. Locked bootloader (so no custom recovery for flashing ROMS, unless we get Safestrap)
2. No Root (no root, then no Safestrap)
Verizon is the same way with the normal consumer edition. The only reason they have ROMs is for the Developer Edition version that Verizon has.

No. Our device is not on that list. We have the N910A version (AT&T obviously).
AutoRoot List
Also, even with root on the ATT version, Safestrap may not work because of SELinux. It may take additional months of development time to figure out a new hook (if it's been fixed) to install the safestrap hijack. SELinux has to be set to permissive for safestrap no matter what and I don't know if that's possible with root on the note 4 with a locked bootloader. Lot's of questions still to be answered.

and THAT is why I decided to buy a SM-910T. I just don't see root coming for the AT&T phone anytime soon. I don't want or need a t-mobile device to use with my AT&T coverage, if I did I'd get t-mobile coverage and drop my AT&T plan, nor am I willing to spend $600-700 on a PHONE. I'm with the majority if people here, we have the coverage we have for whatever reasons, and I'm not going to switch or buy a PHONE outright for root. It's normal to pay nothing down for a phone or $200-300, not buy models from random strangers for $600 dollars. I'm not on here talking about root or begging for it, demanding it, and I'm sure as heck not on here just popping through each thread with negativity and unwanted condescending remarks. Maybe go to the T-mobile forums and put people and ideas down for fun over there?

Then what are you doing in a ROM Thread? Wishful thinking? No reason to put T mobile users down They have unlocked boot loader phones on a carrier they love...WIN WIN>
Just educating you. First of all there will be NO root for the ATT Note 4. Deal with it. T mobile coverage is not as good as ATT coverage here, Have to buy an open phone to gain full benefit of the device.
The days of subsidized phones are ALREADY gone, You are paying up to $300 a year in HIGHER rates for subsidized phones, than those purchased. The NEXT program is a joke. $825 plus tax for a locked down Phone? Not a chance...
In fact the way things are set up its more expensive to buy a subsidized phone, You will pay $900+ for a $700 phone. They will get it now or later, Either way you will be paying all the money for a device and more in service fees if you buy subsidized......... That device at those prices may as well be unlocked and allow you to do with it what you want.
Unless you are into fraud. Rooting a phone eliminates warranty. Once you root a device you are on your own. Random strangers have never sold me or anyone i know a bad device. Checks and balances are in place to keep that from happening whether PayPal or Swappa who insists they run the ESN to make sure it's clear.
There is zero risk in buying used devices. Been doing it for years with my phones, No contracts. Lowest rates and less expensive phones.

I KNOW there won't be root. Been doing this for 5 years. Know developers. They have too many WORKING UNLOCKED devices to spend their time on. You won't see root for the ATT phone. Just trying to educate.
Petitions and a few thousand of "pledges" (rarely fully collected) are not going to make a difference. If I thought there would be root I would have bought the ATT Variant and waited. Look at the Note 4 development threads. How many does ATT have? 1? 2? Note 4 has been on the street
two months and there is ONE thread in the development section. There's your sign.

I don't care who "ignores me" LOL But when some one starts a thread title "No Roms Yet? when the development section has O N E thread...I have to laugh first then educate. Look at the T Mobile Development threads. There is his answer....and his ROMS
Keeping the thread clean means educating the OP. No ROMS yet? Ummm No....and the device has been on the street two months and not even a hint of a custom recovery or root. Sometimes it does not pay to be an early adopter. Know what yee are buying and the capabilities for $800.....Thats a pretty good idea
So, what part of educating involves laughter? You've been through nearly every thread involving root in this forum spewing about how great it is that YOU got an unlcoekd TMO N4. Nothing about what you have done or said has contributed in any manner. It's just you acting tough and thrilled behind a keyboard. Nothing more.

No one is telling you how to spend your money, so why go around telling people how to spend theirs. Like I said, enjoy what you have. Let others do the same. You got a TMO N4, go to the TMO thread and be an ass there.

If one person reads my rants and saves $800 buying a locked up device and instead buys the T Mobile version I will feel vindicated. IF they don;t want root and want to keep their warranty intact they have the right device.

Clarification on Verizon 7.1.2

First of all apologies if this is in the wrong area. Please move and or let me know.
I've read through multiple threads and posts and I want to make sure I'm understanding things.
I have a pixel XL on Verizon at 7.1.2 with all the updates etc already applied (because I was stupid and didn't read before I did these things).
Based on what I read depixel8 it seems depixel8 was an option up until 7.1 andif you didn't get unlocked then then you are sol at this time. Is that right?
Am I correct that without an unlocked bootloader there is no TWRP no root and no custom ROMs? Some posts I read seem to say you can do these things with a locked bootloader. When I look at guides they all seem to say first unlock bootloader if you do that you can't go to step 2.
In short can those of us on Verizon 7.1.2 devices with a locked bootloader get TWRP root and custom ROMs?
I'm willing to try things and don't expect handouts. I just need a little guidance on where to start or someone to say yup you're sol.
No

If you can't slide the OEM Unlock button in dev options you are done. You cannot root or flash TWRP or anything else. No, I do not believe there will be a method to unlock it in the future.
Thank you both for the answers. Confirmed what I thought but didn't want to believe.

This is a longshot as I have been out of the ROM game for a while... but would "upgrading" to the beta of Android O (soon to be 8.0) and then flashing a stock image back (un-enrolling) would that be able to drop the phone down to 7.1.0?

I wound up here in this thread after seeing promos pop up recently for discounts Verizon is offering on the Pixel and XL on the order of $269, as well as giving you a 100% rebate on a new Google Home as part of the package. I don't see a comparable promotion when buying directly from Google. I'm less than 2 years into our current phones, but wife and daughter are having problems with theirs, so I've been considering early replacements.
So - getting a 128GB XL via Verizon appears $269 cheaper than via Google, and I'd get a $129 rebate (6 weeks out?) if I purchase a new Google Home (already have 3 -- that's enough, but I guess I could sell the new one). Verizon's discount comes in the form of a monthly rebate, with the full credit being applied over 24 months. Not terrible, I guess, if you plan to stay with Verizon (I'm going to: I consult, and travel all over the country, and need the coverage), but annoying.
Then there's the whole issue of the locked bootloader. Sorry in advance for not being up to date on this and perhaps asking an obvious question: I know the boatloader issue would prevent rooting, and I imagine custom ROMs -- but do Verizon-branded Pixel's get all the same Android updates directly from Google as Pixels do that are unlocked, purchased directly from Google?
(please don't sneer when you see that I'm running a Droid Turbo 2! I had to replace 4 phones a year and a half ago, and the available promotions back then made it possible to get them each for $300 - a deal I couldn't afford to pass up at the time! )

Basically it comes down to this:
Verizon can screw you anyway they want. Nothing you can do. Deceptive advertising, No real service through 95% of the areas they say is great, locked bootloader on the "Google Phone" that everyone gets to have pure Android and not F%$ed with.
But, you try and do anything to it, OMG... might as well be in jail for killing someone.
When will we stop the power of these media companies?
Sorry, had to reply, I'm just so fed up with the adds, the false deals, the F%*king lies....

Yup sell or live with it. We can only blame ourselves for not researching before we bought from Verizon.
Me I'm gonna live with it and sell when pixel 2 comes out most likely.

So it's our fault they ripped us off and decided "Their Rules" apply?
No, not gonna buy it. Not gonna stand for it.
This is the attitude that got us here.
F*%$ YOU Verizon.
Stop buying their products?
Yeah, I know you can say nothing we can do, and there really is not much, but every bit counts.

They didn't rip you off. You got the device you wanted. And you knowingly bought it from Verizon whom is known to lock down devices. They never sold it with the promises that you could unlock the bootloader and flash whatever you want. Don't get me wrong I hate vzw as much as the next guy. But they didn't use false advertising to sell this device. And if you want pure Android that's untouched then you should be buying directly from Google. Not from VERIZON.
To add to this, I have pretty much exhausted all methods, and it appears that if the phone came from Verizon, without a hack, there is no possible way to OEM Unlock! Here are the facts that I have;
1. I'm on firmware 7.1.2 - NJH47F - which is the non-Verizon firmware from the stock image download page
2. I have tried with both AT&T and T-Mobile SIM's
3. I chatted with Google Support, there is nothing they can do
4. I chatted with Verizon Tech support, there is nothing they can do (supposedly)
If it comes from Verizon, and you are past 7.1 then you cannot use dePixel8...
I can't believe there is no one willing to find even a temp Root exploit and find a way to mod the bootloader.img, even with a substantial bounty out there! I'd add $50 to it at this point!

OEM unlock greyed out

Hi. I purchased pixel 2 xl from google store. My carrier is verizon, so i purchased the one with verizon sim already installed. before purchase i spoke to google rep. i asked if the both versions of the phone are exactly the same except one has verizon sim already installed, he said yes. so now when i go into developer options, oem unlock is greyed out. is this intentional or a bug that will be fixed like i've recently read about htc pixel 2? thanks.

You bought the wrong one. Should have bought the Google version and transferred your sim from the previous one.
Yep looks like you received a Verizon version of the device. If I were you I'd take it back and ask for a Google variant.

ugh... we went for the buy 1 get 1 free valentines deal.... both came with verizon sims preinstalled...
man i really wish i had seen this thread before i bought those... was trying to install TWRP....
there isn't even an option for oem unlocking in dev. options (not greyed out, just not even there).
fastboot oem unlock gives a successful 'OKAY' finished... but remains locked...
guess i'm screwed.... this SUCKS so hard.... was planning in putting on that lineage 15 beta tonight.... and now its like i wanna throw a $1000 phone at the wall

You've got 15 days to return it. Probably won't get that bogo deal, but at least you can then get an unlocked one.

To me I use to flash left and right when I had previous phones. This one IMO there really is no reason to. But like others said, just return them and get the google version but you will have to pay for the other one then.

well... i'll probably just hold out for a future dePixel8 type solution...
maybe they'll crack these newer phones eventually...
you are right that it is a really good stock rom,
but it's still very limiting on it's customization options.
worst ringtones EVER built into any phone too LOL
(but probably has the best wallpapers i've ever seen... those living wallpapers are really cool)

They will but I don't think it necessary since your #2 is entirely correct. It's a great stock rom. But as for customization, don't negate Substratum for non-rooted devices. It's themes for the most part but nice stuff.
Horrible ring tones. Get some older ones and drop them into the proper folder, reboot and you should find them. I do that all the time. The wallpapers are unbeatable.
