[Q] Rooted & bumped. But now I want to update. - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know if Android 5 is released for F400K but when it will be released can I just unroot my phone with supersu, and update my device?
By the way I don't mind loosing TWRP recovery I just want to keep my data & apps.

[Q] Rooting, unrooting, and OTA issues?

So I'm planning on rooting my LG G3 soon, (using PurpleDrake I suppose because TowelRoot doesn't work on the T-Mobile variant), and I will be installing Xposed after that. I will be keeping my stock recovery as well.
I want to keep my ability to update OTA however, and I know that there are issues with updating while rooted.
As such, will I be able to a) uninstall Xposed and then b) use SuperUser to hide root / or unroot somehow, and then c) accept the OTA and then optionally, d) re-root (if the root method still works)
To make sure that no system files are touched, I plan on freezing any unwanted apps through TB (and unfreezing them before the OTA)
Will this work? Is it possible to unroot without having to wipe data?
I am also waiting to root my Tmobile D851 and have the same questions/concerns. Will be watching your thread. Wish I had some insight but thanks for this.

[Q] G3 device root

Hi,
I got my G3 and noticed that there are some pre installed apps I can't remove (especially McAfee!). Therefore, I want to root my device in order to be able to unistall these apps. I am new at rooting, so my questions are
-How can I get updates on a rooted device? Is OTA possible or do I need to install updates via a pc tool?
-If OTA is not possible, where can I find the updates and how can I install them?
-Does LG update app inform me about updates on a rooted device or do I have to check manually on web?
-Are there any reasons why I shouldn't root my G3?
Thank you guys for your help!!!

1. i have read ota with rooted device is possible (only without twrp!) but with lg flash tool its safer.
2. for example here... you can install them with lg flash tool.
3. if you do not turn off the ota update information you will be informed about updates but i recommend you to turn it off.
4. i think no.
I don't have experience with LG, but with other phones I've had OTA's will work on rooted device ONLY if you have stock recovery and ALL pre-installed apps, including bloatware. So if you delete McAfee, OTA's probably won't run. If you use TiBackup to freeze it, instead of deleting it, there's a good chance the OTA will run.
But I think it's probably safer to not take OTAs, if for no other reason than the next OTA could break root, and then you'd be stuck with McAfee.
Question, though: can you disable McAfee in the Application manager? If so, you would't have to root if that's your only reason.
disable root for update?
thank you!
do you recommend to remove root before using lg flashing tool, or can I use it when root is activated?
If necessary, what do you recommend to remove root? Is SuperSu the best option?
@dusu84 I was not able to disable mcafee in app manager. I used Titanium Backup to freeze it.

you dont have to remove root before using lg flash tool... you will lost root anyway when you use lg flash tool.
you can choose between two flash variants... "cse" or "normal".
cse will wipe everything on your phone... normal keep your apps and data exist but you will lost root.

[Q] Can I still get OTA updates to Android after rooting?

I want to get some of the bloat off my Galaxy Tab S (WiFI only 10.5" 32GB) and have it auto sync time to NTP. Pretty weak that it can't do the latter on default software. I see the lovely Chainfire root tool in the General forum for this device.
My best guess is that I will still receive Android updates but installing one will void the root and make me re-root. This from a two year old thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814093
Install Titanium Backup, freeze half the stuff that comes with it, how could life get better?
Im not sure about reciving an ota update from the device will make you lose root. I have supersu pro and turned on survival mode in case I lost root from an update. To update I think you will need to flash and stock updated rom and reroot. I am on rooted stock rom and have twrp recovery. I also changed my status to official so I can see if their is an update. So basically I can get the ota update and install it but I have not tested it yet with the new update yesterday. Since im on a custom recovery and rooted Im not sure if the ota update will install correctly. But to answer your question Im pretty sure you flash the rom update with odin. As for ota updates and installing them i do not know. Hope this helps!

Updating HTC M9 Unlocked to 1.32.617.30?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to help my friend update his M9. I was able to root his phone before and he's telling me he keeps getting a constant notification to update the OTA. He is currently on 1.32.617.6 and the update is to 1.32.617.30.
Does anyone have a TWRP backup of the system I can just flash on his phone so it won't get rid of root? I was able to do the TWRP restore of a Stagefright system backup to update my Moto X. If not, what is the best method to update his phone without factory resetting/deleting his data.
ohhhh lord.....in this device it is not just a matter of root and ready! you have f***** the phone! with root you CAN NOT EVER NEVER take OTAs....for that you should unroot and most of the time re-lock bootloader.....
As I always said...do not attemp on rooting/unlocking/flashing if you are not willing to lose everything..........
My best option here if you dont mind losing all and restart (wich may give a 100% fresh stock updated rom) is to flash the Developer Edition 2.11 and rthen relock bootloader) but you would need be to be s-off, otherwise, nroot and relock as normal and get the ota.

[Q] Force OTA update to MM?

Hi all,
I have my g4 rooted on stock. Locked bootloader. And still on LP. When i check to see if there is a system update it says i am on the latest version (im in the uk). Is there a way to spoof where i am to get a system update?
You can use LGUP to install a new version of android (6.0). But you will lose root access.
For this method (LGUP) you don't need to unlock your botloader.
The way to install kdz is on this forum. Good luck
I was looking for a way that i dodnt have to use a pc. (due to lack of time at home) also why are all these tools windows tools? No linux love? If a pc is needed i will just unlock the bootloader and put a custom rom on
