[Q] Very Deep Problem... - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, guys, one day i was searching for Lollipop ROM for my HTC One M8, i had stock 4.4.3 and stock 4.4.3 firmware, after installing SkyDragon ROM i lost my Wi-Fi, i wanted to get back to full stock, but i have S-ON and Unlocked bootloader, idk which firmware and software i had because when i am running "getvar all" main version is blank, CID is HTC_059, i tried to restore nandroid backup for TWRP 2.22.707.4 and 2.22.707.3, TWRP gives unknown error, then i tried to fastboot old recoveries randomly, nothing helped, and the stock recoverie that possibly was on my htc says: "Device_CW_Install: No CW files. Skip cw installation. Write host_mode:0 done":crying: What can i do?

I also think that MID and CID changed during my manipulations, is that possible on S-ON Device?

MID & CID change is not possible with S-On
To confirm, run this command in fastboot mode - fastboot getvar all and post the result here (delete the serialno and imei no)
If HTC__059 then TWRP 2.22.707.4 and 2.22.707.3 are correct.
You mentioned unknown error .. please explain what error.
How do you restore the backup zip ? You are not supposed to install them but extract them on PC and transfer to your device TWRP/BACKUPS/serialno/folder

Please help!!!

1. change your TWRP to the latest version. What you have is very old, that is why you have that empty version-main.
2. use the TWRP to make a backup of boot then see where the backup goes ... your downloaded backup folder should go to the same directory ... or simply copy the content of downloaded backup to that boot backup folder.
Most of the time, the error is due to wrong directory.
Your getvar all confirmed that your CID & MID are correct for TWRP 2.22.707.4 or 2.22.707.3 .. it is better to use 2.22.707.3 backup first then do the necessary OTA up to the latest 3.32.707.9

Also i forgot to say that Hboot says Tampered and there is no OS.

I have the same problem, though with sense, s-off and and locked boot loader, had gpe installed but went back to sense because of the lack of being unable to move apps to SD..
Have no idea how to fix it, or what information I need to get help with it, just wanna return phone to 100% stock.

Have you try to restore only system and boot only ?

This issue crops up in TWRP from time to time. Did you update TWRP as ckpv5 suggested? Re-installing TWRP will sometimes make this error go away.

[Q] HTC M8 Wifi problems on several Roms -HELP!

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I have.
My htc M8 was rooted and insertcoin was flashed onto it however the wifi button greyed out and wouldnt turn on in order to s-off it. I tried several different roms and they all have the same problem. I am currently running skydragon v5. I have been trying to sort this phone out for a week and I am getting absolutely nowhere so any help would be appreciated. It's on ORANG001 and is s-on.
Thanks
You have old firmware. You need to have 4.19.61.2 on ORANG001 in order to have wifi on these ROM.
And you post this in wrong section.

Apologies, new to the forum it's been moved now!
Yeah .. requested it to be moved to correct section.
So .. you need to restore your stock ROM and do OTA up to 4.19.61.2
What's your current firmware version .. 3.33.61.9 or 2.26.61.1 ? Or even lower ?
Check what's written on bootloader - hboot 3.16 or 3.18 .. you need 3.19

That's a very low version ... you need to restore to stock backup 1.54.61.5
But I deleted my TWRP backup for most 1.xx.xxx.x only keep 2.x; 3x & 4x
There is someone else backup made with Philz recovery so you need to download Philz recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703223
then download the backup : https://mega.co.nz/#!WhwRmSoJ!QJxmI0gYj7t_0Hc4fMKx0XLYQ2n45S3OfrEcDRS3C-s
restore that backup with the stock recovery (included in that backup if I'm not wrong)
then do multiple OTA

I was trying to adb push the firmware to my phone to then install it on Recovery but when im typing "adb devices" it says list of devices attached then it is blank. I have been trying to search for solutions but I cant seem to fix it. If you have any advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks
Has anyone got an idea?

This is usually an issue on the computer's side (PC?). Try to re-install HTC drivers, try another USB port, or another cable. Also, if you have USB 3.0, this is known to cause issues with adb connectivity (apparently, you can disable this).
Also, you need to be booted into OS or in recovery for adb to work (does not work in bootloader) and you need to have USB debugging activated in Settings.
And when you say "firmware" I think you mean a nandroid backup, based on the instructions previously given to you? Be careful using the term "firmware" here, as most folks use that term to specifically mean the firmware.zip that contains hboot, radio etc. (but not ROM).

Don't you have a MicroSD ? Put the extracted nandroid on MicroSD at the right location clockworkmod\backups\ is easier than doing that ADB push.
Okay finally got the nandroid backup installed. Then when i tried to install the OTA update it took me to CWM and failed. So i then relocked and tried again to update OTA and it took me to the bootloader with a ***Relocked*** and *** Security Warning*** any ideas ?
You need to re-install the stock recovery in order to OTA. Bootloader lock has nothing to do with it (will OTA with unlocked bootloader).

Stock ROM backup and stock recovery are two different things.
You need to fastboot flash recovery recovery.img to replace the CWM that you have now. Inside the backup zip, there is a recovery.img .. take this out and fastboot flash it.
You need to unlock bootloader to flash it.
when using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" using the recovery.img from the unzipped nandroid folder the process runs and it says okay with no errors then when i try go into recovery the red triangle and exclamation mark appear again

Yes that's stock recovery. Perform the ota now
Because that is stock recovery. You don't need to get into recovery.
Just reboot, check OTA, download then select install.
Let the system do the installation on its own

Can any one please tell me what to do my problem is when I turninig my phone on it says setup wizard stopped working I could not post a link for the picture because I am new here I have tried factory reset and hard reset nothing worked A guy told me to install ruu but I have s_on so any souloution??
There is no problem to install RUU on S-On device. Just need to relock bootloader if it is unlocked.
You may have remove/freeze Setup Wizard or it's corrupted.
Restore your nandroid backup if you have any. If no, try restore a stock nandroid backup or RUU.
Without fastboot getvar all information, nothing much to help you
Post here fastboot getvar all result (minus serial & imei no.), someone may be able to help you

Firstly - remove that serial no & imei no from your post
You have 3 options :
1. Restore 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup and 4.16.401.10 stock recovery then do OTA update to 4.16.401.13
or
2. Relock your bootloader and install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything)
or
3. Relock your bootloader and fastboot flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything and also note you need htc_fastboot instead of normal fastboot)
You can get the RUU.zip from link in option 2.
Option 2 & 3 - you will have the hassle to relock bootloader and later re-unlock bootloader if you want to root it again and this process will wipe your data.
I would go for option 1, no need to relock bootloader - you can get all the needed files in link in my signature

I think you can skip option 2 & 3 as it seems most links to required files are no more.
Go for option 1, no need S-Off, no need to relock bootloader.
What you need is an unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery installed, use TWRP 2.8.6.0 or 2.8.7.0

I'm not telling you what to do, I'm asking you questions to see how you were trying to copy the files. I also asked if you could see the phone's internal storage on the PC (which you didn't properly answer, either).
Don't make new threads. Even if the situation changes, its still a result of what you did before. Making new threads just confuses the issue further.
What exactly have you done to the phone to this point? Describe each step in detail, including TWRP version number, SuperSU version number, etc.
Also, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results, so we can see details about the device (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
I only opend a new thread because its a different problem, when I was making this thread i could use the phone I just couldn't get supersu.zip or a rom.zip from my pc, yes I could see the internal storage show up under my PC but if I copied and pasted it would just give me a error saying device not available or close enough to that. Then after a reboot from using a toolkit hasooon2000 i think i pushed the latest twrp 3.0.5.3 not real number but it was d latest recovery that worked, then I used the same toolkit to push supersu over and it flashed it but i stil had no root. After that I done a reboot and now im stuck on d start screen.
What can I do?
A Fastboot getvar how do i do that pal?

Read my backup thread linked in my signature.
Restore the 6.13.206.5 backup. Make sure to install the latest TWRP or not older than 2.8.7.0
After restore and reboot, do not accept root offered by TWRP.
You need SuperSU 2.65 to root. Search for it, I can't link here as I'm on mobile and in bed.

You get stuck after installed SuperSU - most probably you installed an outdated SuperSU - you should try SuperSU 2.65

This doesn't tell us anything that lets us help you.
Did you do as ckpv5 suggested? If so, you need to describe in detail the exact steps you took (TWRP version, SuperSU version, etc.), the specificresults for each step, where you go stuck, error messages, etc.

Can't unlock network despite having code!

I bought a second hand HTC ONE M8 recently. It was previously locked to a Swedish Carrier (called "3").
When I insert a SIM card from another carrier, a window pops up right after I enter the PIN code, asking me to type in a code to unlock the network.
The code I have, but whenever I type it in and hit "unlock", the phone gets stuck at "requesting network code. Very much like in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791553
The phone has a Play Edition ROM, which is not the original. Some say that a solution is to revert back to stock ROM, but I'm not sure how.
Anyone has any other ideas? Google searches yield surprisingly few good results.
Yeah .. usually you need to revert back to non-rooted stock then only you can use the unlock code.
Post fastboot getvar all result (without serial & imei no.) then we'll see the next step to take.

Thank you for answering.
I tried the link but I never managed to get HTC Sync Manager to recognize the phone.
fastboot getvar all only yields "waiting for device". What could be wrong? I've tried multiple ways of installing drivers manually, but to no avail.
You need to put the device on bootloader/fastboot mode to run fastboot command.
Read again the link given, you're supposed to uninstall htc sync manager and also you need to install adb/fastboot

This will involve many steps as I don't see any RUU for this carrier ...
1. You need to install 6.13.771.4 firmware.zip
Download the fw_6.13.771.4.zip from post #5 in my backup thread and read how to install the firmware. You can skip the relock bootloader part as you have a S-Off device.
Leave it unlocked .. can you confirm current status .. the booloader is unlocked or locked or relocked ?
2. Install TWRP the latest version 3.0.2-0 ... link to download on post #1 in same thread
3. Restore 6.13.771.4 backup that you can download on post #3 - read how-to on post #1
4. run the unlock code

I can confirm it is unlocked. I started following the steps in post #1, but can't seem to complete step 5. I try to make a backup of the boot, but when I do, several red errors in the log appears. All of them starts with
Failed to/Unable to mount '/cache, /data, /carrier (invalid argument).
What might cause these errors?
Forgot to write more on item 2.
Install TWRP the latest version 3.0.2-0 ... link to download on post #1 in same thread
Because you're converting back to Sense from GPE ... you need to do these before you can proceed to item 3.
In TWRP - select wipe - Format data - type yes
Once it is done doing its stuff, use back button select reboot - recovery
Now you can proceed item 3.

That worked fine.
Now I'm stuck at number 9 instead. When I press "Restore" in the TWRP menu, I don't have anything to select.
Also, what looks more right?

Computer\HTC One_M8\Internal Storage\0\TWRP\BACKUPS\SH45FWM04430\6.13.771.4
Doesn't seem to make a difference anyway though.
The second one but without \0\
Should read Computer\HTC One_M8\Internal Storage\TWRP\BACKUPS\SH45FWM04430\6.13.771.4
Try redo the backup of boot ... then it will write correct location Computer\HTC One_M8\Internal Storage\TWRP\BACKUPS\SH45FWM04430\xxxxxxxxx
After redo the backup ... select Restore and check whether TWRP can see the folder that you backup. If yes, now you have correct location
Instead of transferring the 6.13.771.4 folder, you also can copy the contents of the 6.13.771.4 folder (there should be 8 items) to Internal Storage\TWRP\BACKUPS\SH45FWM04430\xxxxxxxxx and replace the contents when asked by windows

Htc one m8 bricked?!?! Stuck on boot screen (htc logo)!

Hi guys I have an HTC ONE M8 running 4.4.4 with TWRP and Root installed and a few weeks ago I tried to go into TWRP and clear cache and dalvik-cache and such, as usual. When I did that and rebooted the phone, the phone is stuck on the HTC logo and I can only boot into bootloader mode and also into TWRP. Also TWRP is also saying I have lost root access.
What can I do to fix this problem can I restore back to 4.4.4 as a new device and re-root it and install TWRP? How do I get out of this mess? It is S-ON and Software Status is MODIFIED.
No matter how long I leave the phone it will stay on the logo until it dies or until I boot into bootloader.
Thank You Guys I Have Lost Hope Honestly.
IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME PLEASE PROVIDE THOROUGH INSTRUCTIONS! THANK YOU!
First of all, the fact the screen comes on at all, means it almost certainly not bricked, and recoverable. You just can't boot into OS, and with TWRP installed, that is not too serious a problem.
On the other hand, once you have TWRP installed, the first thing you should always do before rooting or other mods, is to use TWRP make a backup of system and boot.img. And even after successful root, it's good to make a backup of the rooted ROM. If you had a TWRP backup o the phone, in an event like this (no boot into OS) you can simply boot into TWRP, and restore the backup.
If you have no backups, you can download the proper one from the collection: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
You can then restore using the instructions from that same thread. You only need to do steps 4-9 to get the phone running again, then reboot. Steps 1-3 relate to installing TWRP (which you already have). Steps 10 and on, are optional as they will install stock recovery to the phone, which will allow you to update to more current Android version (which will eventually get you up to Marshmallow).
If you need help determining what version number TWRP backup to restore from the above linked collection, then do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Another option is to RUU back to stock (if your version M8 has an RUU) if you are okay with the phone being wiped. If you are s-on, you will need to relock the bootloader in order to RUU. Then after RUU, unlock the bootloader again, install TWRP and root the phone.

MTP device driver?
What does it say next to "OS" in your bootloader?
Also, if you can boot to recovery you should be able to restore a backup

There is no OS installed at all for some reason! When I try to download a backup I need to flash it and the only way to do so is by having the MTP Driver installed in order to drag it into TWRP and flash the backup. I can't do so because it fails to install my MTP Driver.

you can use a card reader to put the rom or the backup on external sd card
or use an OTG USB flash memory
also connect the device to pc while you are in recovery this should work by it self no need to install MTP driver
which OS you have on your pc ??

No OS is usually an easy fix. Download a ROM on your PC, put it onto your extSD, and flash the ROM in recovery. The reason you have no OS is because you wiped system in TWRP. If you do that, you need to flash a ROM after or you'll have no OS on a reboot.
It's best to never wipe system in TWRP as this is done by default in recovery when you flash a ROM. There will be the odd instance that it is suggested to wipe it ( I've never seen that with HTC based ROMs), but if it isn't then don't.

Not clear which drivers you are trying to install, the HTC drivers from their website, the ones which load from the phone, built-in Windows drivers, etc.?
Try going to HTC's website, and download HTC Sync, which will also install the drivers. If you already have this installed, try uninstalling, and re-install.
Alternately, the Android MTP device drivers built-in to Windows is a generic version of drivers which can often get at least adb/fastboot working, and probably also allow you to drag/drop to internal storage in TWRP. If these drivers are the ones failing to install, it would imply there is something wrong with your Windows installation (which there isn't a lot we can help you with) rather than anything with the phone.

Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

You need to be more specific:
What version number of file name of the RUU you tried? Zip format or exe format? If zip format, did you flash by fastboot, or SD card method?
Did you get an error message, if so, what did it say exactly? If no error message, what was the mode of failure (what happened exactly - be detailed - at what exact point did the RUU fail, status of the phone, etc.)? Saying "It didn't work" doesn't give us any info to troubleshoot why it failed, or how to get it to work.
Also, you did not provide all the info requested (questions I asked you in my last response):

You need to flash the firmware 6.20.651.3 in order for the RUU to install (firmware and RUU are different things - so don't confuse the two). The firmware and how to flash are described here (as well as all the Sprint RUUs): https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
Just a heads up, if you don't know already: No need to relock the bootloader to do this (flash either firmware or RUU) since you are s-off, and no benefit in doing so. Plus, relocked bootloader gives you less options to recovery, so it is not recommended to relock it in your case.
Also, in regards to your original question (no boot after restoring TWRP backup): you never answered my question of how you picked a TWRP backup to download and restore (which I asked twice before). Now that I see you have the Sprint version M8, I will guess that you tried to restore the incorrect version backup. Sprint version uses different kernel from most other M8 versions. So if you don't restore the proper one, no boot is the expected outcome. Also, even if Sprint, it would have to be the same version you were on before (Kitkat) which is another reason it would not boot.
