I'm so sorry. It's listed as kindle-adb device. (There's no adb in twrp/advanced)

Ok so I went through the whole adb thing, pushed the rom&gapps (cm10.1 cuz old recovery) and when I go to flash it fills the progress bar in like 2 seconds and says reboot as of it flashed but it didn't

Kindle Fire 6.3 Brick

I flashed the 6.3 update from TWRP and after reboot it gets stuck on kindle fire logo. I have tried Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility with no success. Whenever I choose an option on there, it says waiting for device. When I plug my kindle fire into my computer it makes the connecting noise. In kindle fire utility it shows that adb is online, but the boot status is shown as unknown. When i try to have it reboot into normal mode from kindle fire utility, I get exec '/system/bin/sh; failed : no such file or directory. Then the kindle fire resets itself and im back at square one.
I've uploaded a screenshot of what I get when I use kfu and try to get into fastboot
u were supposed to wipe data after flashing but before rebooting. what rom were you on before you flashed it? usbboot or factory cable.

yes. unless your comfortable removing the back cover.

Personally I don't think it will show up in adb devices.but you don't need android sdk for adb.if you downloaded kfu then you have it.first look in kfu folder till you find adb.exe. then use the cd command and move into the folder with adb.then you can do adb devices.good luck bro.I've bricked 2 kindle fires and I still don't have enough money for a third.

Delete those drivers and run the driver pack from kfu. Then manually select the driver device manager. You have to choose adbcomposite device

Well, I don't want to argue. I just know that for the 2 kindles that had the same problem as the OP, any adb command I sent just sat "waiting for device" It was not until I got the right driver (adb composite) that it started taking adb commands again.
if he can push a 4000 reboot without the driver, great. But if he is getting "waiting for device", as he stated in OP, then my suggestion is to get the right driver installed in there.
most soft bricks happen when the fire gets stuck in fastboot mode and loses connection via driver issues and fails to take adb commands.

but, this.
so, I don't wanna argue either. fastboot is one thing, but adb is another.
his waiting for devices in the op is from kfu, and if you know how it works, it chains a fastboot command and pings it at waiting for devices awaiting reboot. his adb works fine.

need a Wallpaper fix for 8.4.6

I'm using Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - 8.4.6 software version
I have looked at a few fixes like the stunt wallpaper fix 2.1
It seems like the file "/system/framework/framework-res.apk" has changed.
I extracted that file but can't find the same paths in it.
Anyone have some current info?
Thanks In Advance!
If you are trying to figure out how to manually fix it, the boolean path isn't viewable normally, u have to actually decompile the apk to see that file, not simply unzip it.

OK I decompiled It using Java
java -jar "apktool.jar" d framework-res.apk edit_source
And I now see the path
/edit_source/res/values/
Can I just edit "bools.xml" using a text editer
<bool name="disable_system_wallpapers">false</bool>
Pretty much, then u have to recompile the file and pull the resource.arsc file out of the new framework-res.apk, and stick in in the old one to update it while maintaining the signature in the file. My wallpaper fix does all this for you, but if you need some hints and want to do it manually, feel free to look through the batch file, I'm sure you would recognize the important parts as long as you have some basic command line knowledge.

My bad, disregard that last statement I forgot I am in the 8.9" forum. Its a lot more simple since your an 8.9" user, just turn kindle off, open a command prompt and CD into the directory where you have a copy of fastboot. Now type "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product", once it says waiting for device, plug you kindle in while its off, it should boot into fastboot, you will know from the screen saying fastboot in yellow letters. If that doesn't doesn't do many thing and it just hangs on waiting form device, then you need to install the drivers for the jem device that will show up in the device manager for a few seconds after the kindle turns on, use the drivers in my signature for this. Once the drivers are working try the process again and it should work. Sorry about the fastboot cable confusion, I suck at multitasking and was in between rounds of halo reach when I answered, and didn't notice that I was in the 8.9" section. Hope I posted this before you found them online and got one, because they are useless on the 8.9" models.
Another note, adb has nothing to do with fastboot mode, so it has no effect, on that note remember adb commands don't work in fastboot, you have to use fastboot commands.

Tell it to restore your system, I don't know the exact choice number or what it says since I have never used it, but it should have an option somewhere to restore the system partition, I think I heard you can even choose which version, if you can I suggest one of the newest one available from the list.

[Q] KIndle Fire D01400 TWRP recovery problems

Hello, this is my first post on this forum, though I have lurked on XDA since as far back as my droid eris.
I have looked around the kindle fire forum for the answers I seek, but I have not seen a thread that helps. If I am asking a redundant question, please kindly show me the relevant thread(s) and I will read them.
I was at a small computer store my friend owns in our tiny little town (white hat computer solutions minersville, pa), when a mutual friend and former classmate of ours brought us a Kindle Fire D01400 with a cracked screen he bought off ebay. the previous owner claimed it worked despite the cracked screen, From a hardware standpoint that is quite correct, as you can see everything yet, and the touchscreen responds.
However, they neglected to mention they were selling one that already was modified, it is running TWRP 2.4.4.0 and has an improperly flashed ROM on it ( the stock keyboard crashes, home screen soft key does nothing, gmail works, but google play store does not). sideloading a keyboard app on fixed the keyboard, but the gapps with the exception of gmail don't function. I figured doing a wipe and flash of a new rom and gapps would be a good starting point to attempt to fix this problem.
However when I go into TWRP recovery and try to wipe the system, dalvik, or cache, the operation fails.
I have tried taking the TWRP manager app and sideloading it and using that to update to the latest TWRP. but the version number remains at 2.7.0.1
So my question is, with the above details kept in mind: How exactly do I go about fixing this tablet and making it a functional piece of android hardware for my friend/customer?

Will post back with results as soon as I am done
EDIT:
Flashed it to twrp 2.6.1.0 otter I still can't use the wipe option. tried factory reset figuring i could just push the rom and gapps down using adb again, but factory reset also failed. is there a permission I can reset using adb?

Previous owner of the device had the TWRP recovery set to use simulation mode. I was unaware that was even an option since i was not familar with TWRP( my previous android flashing experiences used clockwork) after unchecking those boxes in the advanced settings, I was successfully able to flash a rom and gapps, and everything was perfect after that.
sorry for wasting so much time on this, I really missed something simple on this one.

[Q] No OS installed or ROMS in sdcard kindle fire

Hi,
After doing a complete wipe I installed an invalid OS and the kindle is not booting.
How can I solve this submitting a new ROM to install if the ADB driver doesn't recognize my kindle to upload it?
Recovery mode is working, but mounting is not, nor ADB sideload..
Is there any way to resolve this??
Thanks

When in twrp, you selected mount, checked SD card, and selected mount usb?

at the windows device manager the kindle is shown as Amazon Kindle Fire, but when I try to send commands using the kindle fire utility v.0.99 it hangs up..
in twrp I can select the SD card and mount it, but nothing happens at windows.. I cannot see the SD card as a new disk in windows
In device manager double click on kindle should be a 2nd line
Don't recommend kindle fire utility except for installing drivers.

Sorry, if I double click on the device 'Android ADB Interface' I just see a status message saying the device is working properly
The driver is recognizing the device apparently well, but I cannot mount the SD card to copy a ROM to install.. how can I proceed?
When you mount SD card, did you look in computer where drives are shown?

[Q] Rooted KF 6.3.4 using Root Master, Now what?

I am definitely a noob. I searched all over to find ways to root. Most methods involved using the Kindle Fire Utility, but user comments and the lack of responses they got scared me off. I tried using Key Root Master (MOD version), it worked, and I indeed do have root. This is verified with Root Checker Basic, and I was able to get and use Google Play store on my KF. The problem is, for some of the apps I want, IE: Greenify, I need a different version of Android. It appears that in order to get a custom ROM on it, I need to have TWRP, but everything I read says that in order to get that, I need to root using Kindle Fire Utility, and I need FireFireFire. This is where I am lost. I am not sure what to do now. Can I use a different root method now that I am already rooted? This is all very confusing, but I am trying to learn.

Okay, thank you for your response. I just want to be clear though. I clicked on your link, and now since my KF is rooted, I can just go ahead and begin by downloading fbmode and the steps thereafter? No need to root again using saferoot?

The tutorial is straightforward, and very well done. I thank you. Unfortunately, when I entered adb push fbmode /data/local/tmp into command prompt, it said Daemon not running starting it now...then Daemon started successfully...then...error: device not found. I looked in device manager and Kindle Fire is listed as Amazon Kindle USB Device under disk drives, as well as just Kindle under Other Devices with a yellow exclamation point next to it. It continues to tell me Device not found under command prompt. Can you tell me what is wrong?

Using Windows 7 Ultimate. No, I didn't use intall.drivers.bat from Kindle Fire Utility, because as I said, I rooted using another method. Can I install those drivers without the Utility?

I installed the drivers successfully, but now the kindle doesn't show up in device manager at all, and command prompt is still saying device not found. I reinstalled the drivers, and rebooted the pc as well as the kindle twice. I ejected the kindle, and it did say "android adb interface device" can now be disconnected. I reconnectred it...still no luck.

if that fails
maybe get a root browser and see if
fbmode is in /data/local/tmp
and permissions are correct
