[Q] Rooted KF 6.3.4 using Root Master, Now what? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am definitely a noob. I searched all over to find ways to root. Most methods involved using the Kindle Fire Utility, but user comments and the lack of responses they got scared me off. I tried using Key Root Master (MOD version), it worked, and I indeed do have root. This is verified with Root Checker Basic, and I was able to get and use Google Play store on my KF. The problem is, for some of the apps I want, IE: Greenify, I need a different version of Android. It appears that in order to get a custom ROM on it, I need to have TWRP, but everything I read says that in order to get that, I need to root using Kindle Fire Utility, and I need FireFireFire. This is where I am lost. I am not sure what to do now. Can I use a different root method now that I am already rooted? This is all very confusing, but I am trying to learn.

Okay, thank you for your response. I just want to be clear though. I clicked on your link, and now since my KF is rooted, I can just go ahead and begin by downloading fbmode and the steps thereafter? No need to root again using saferoot?

The tutorial is straightforward, and very well done. I thank you. Unfortunately, when I entered adb push fbmode /data/local/tmp into command prompt, it said Daemon not running starting it now...then Daemon started successfully...then...error: device not found. I looked in device manager and Kindle Fire is listed as Amazon Kindle USB Device under disk drives, as well as just Kindle under Other Devices with a yellow exclamation point next to it. It continues to tell me Device not found under command prompt. Can you tell me what is wrong?

I installed the drivers successfully, but now the kindle doesn't show up in device manager at all, and command prompt is still saying device not found. I reinstalled the drivers, and rebooted the pc as well as the kindle twice. I ejected the kindle, and it did say "android adb interface device" can now be disconnected. I reconnectred it...still no luck.

Kindle Fire 6.3 Brick

I flashed the 6.3 update from TWRP and after reboot it gets stuck on kindle fire logo. I have tried Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility with no success. Whenever I choose an option on there, it says waiting for device. When I plug my kindle fire into my computer it makes the connecting noise. In kindle fire utility it shows that adb is online, but the boot status is shown as unknown. When i try to have it reboot into normal mode from kindle fire utility, I get exec '/system/bin/sh; failed : no such file or directory. Then the kindle fire resets itself and im back at square one.
I've uploaded a screenshot of what I get when I use kfu and try to get into fastboot
u were supposed to wipe data after flashing but before rebooting. what rom were you on before you flashed it? usbboot or factory cable.

Personally I don't think it will show up in adb devices.but you don't need android sdk for adb.if you downloaded kfu then you have it.first look in kfu folder till you find adb.exe. then use the cd command and move into the folder with adb.then you can do adb devices.good luck bro.I've bricked 2 kindle fires and I still don't have enough money for a third.

Delete those drivers and run the driver pack from kfu. Then manually select the driver device manager. You have to choose adbcomposite device

Well, I don't want to argue. I just know that for the 2 kindles that had the same problem as the OP, any adb command I sent just sat "waiting for device" It was not until I got the right driver (adb composite) that it started taking adb commands again.
if he can push a 4000 reboot without the driver, great. But if he is getting "waiting for device", as he stated in OP, then my suggestion is to get the right driver installed in there.
most soft bricks happen when the fire gets stuck in fastboot mode and loses connection via driver issues and fails to take adb commands.

but, this.
so, I don't wanna argue either. fastboot is one thing, but adb is another.
his waiting for devices in the op is from kfu, and if you know how it works, it chains a fastboot command and pings it at waiting for devices awaiting reboot. his adb works fine.

[Q] Kindle Fire with 6.3 Help with Rooting Please

Hi,
I am a total noob. I don't even know the proper expressions for this whole thing.
So this is my case:
I am outside the US and bought the Kindle Fire with a 6.3 firmware, couple of days ago.
Being curious about what it all can do, created a fake account with a test credit card as I read somewhere in the net.
Then downloaded the KFU 0.9.5 and rooted the device, everything went according to the plan, so I thought.
Then I discovered I had to use something called Market Opener to install other apps. But this Market Opener never worked.
So I found out that I had to change permissions. But this cannot happen as I get that message that adb services can not run in production builds etc. whatever that may mean.
So I downloaded Android SDK, followed the instructions installed it but I still cannot get into the root and change folder permissions. Sometimes it recognizes the device, sometimes not and when it does it tells me the same thing as above.
Then I would need some .apk to do the thing on the device but I cannot install those as I don't have the Market Opener or the Google Play and I cannot get those if I don't have superuser permissions to change things in Folders.
Basically I have been spending the last 3 days in searching the net for answers but to no avail.
So, can someone help me please? What I need to do is being able to install some apps including Market Opener / Google Play and being able to watch Amazon VOD. Is this possible?
Please bear in mind that I have no clue of the specific language, i.e. I don't know what flash is and how to do it nor I know how to do a backup and restore or how to reset everything in the original state.
SO if some of you have the patience to help, please advice me with some noob language so that I can understand.
Thanks in advance for the help that will come
Are you looking to put a custom rom on it or just root? If you're looking to keep Amazon services, you can put MoDaCo's rom on it, which is just like your kindle out of the box with a few extra bells and whistles. There are alot of guides floating around on how to get ADB working. There's an excellent beginners guide in the General section that I highly advise checking out.
Noob terms: if you want to keep the Amazon experience, I reccomend MoDaCo. Look for it in the development fourms.

Thanks for ur answer.
I have read a lot of guides out there but I seem not to be able to get the ADB working as I always get the message I gave in the original post plus the fact that sometimes it recognizes the device and sometimes not.
I have read the beginners guide which was excellent but without the ADB working there is little I can do I suppose.
As I wrote, I want to play with the device to see what it is able to do and want to use the Amazon VOD if possible. I.e. I would like to be able to use Google Play to get apps on will and still keep the Amazon services. Would that be possible with the MoDaCo staff?
Ok. I downloaded the MoDaCo staff.
Must I reset the kindle to the factory settings before I install that? If yes, how?
And how do I flash it?
Make sure you are in fact rooted.
You seem like you know enough about adb to try the following commands.
adb shell
ls /system/xbin
Look for a file called "su" in the list
Then...
ls /system/app
Look for a file called "Superuser.apk"
A lack of either of these means you're not rooted and may be the source of your problems
If you are trying to change system file permissions through adb...
adb root
adb remount
adb shell chmod blah /blah/blah/yadayada
Just don't literally type "blah /blah/blah/yadayada"
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
a factory reset won't really help you because you're basically replacing the operating system. pretty sure all amazon services are working with modaco. to install it, look around for a guide on how to install something called firefirefire (FFF) and TWRP. pretty sure that can all be done with kfu in a couple clicks. then copy the modaco zip onto your kindle, go into the wipe menu and clear out system, cache, dalvik cache, and data (factory reset), then go into install and choose the modaco zip. reboot and you should be set.

Doesn't the FFF and the TWRP get installed automatically with the kfu?
its most likely your computer. a reboot might help. if not, how did you install the drivers? are you using a mac or pc? try installing the drivers that came bundled with KFU.
if you're using a PC, go into device manager and see if something about android ADB pops up. if not, it's your drivers.

haha, no problem .
if FFF was installed, you should see a picture of fire in a caution sign or an android logo over the kindle fire logo when you boot it up. if all you see is kindle fire, then you don't have fff. im pretty sure you need fff to get into twrp. if fff is installed, you should be able to hop into fastboot and install twrp if it's not installed yet.

I am using a PC ( a netbook, don't laugh, I'm on vacation!!)
I installed the drivers using the install_bat from the kfu.
In device manager I see Android Phone and underneath Android Composite ADB Interface...
interesting. check my previous post and see if you have FFF installed. adb should be working fine if device manager can find it. if you can, run adb devices into cmd and see if it picks up your kindle. not sure if the stock rom has a development switch in the settings.. if there's an option to enable usb debugging, make sure that is on. if not, just try moving usb ports and running adb devices.
If adb has trouble recognizing your device, it means it's a driver issue. Either Windows, KFU or a combination of the two causes the drivers to fail for some reason.
Uninstall/delete your current drivers in device manager (may require reboot)
Turn your Kindle off
Reinstall drivers
Turn your Kindle on
Retry adb commands

that's fantastic... if you have FFF, try pressing the power button a couple times as it turns on and see if you can get into recovery. you shouldn't need adb now. if you can get into recovery, just wipe and flash the new rom. if you don't, you can use fastboot to install it.

Couldn't write bp1, panic! Fbmode issue?

Hello, I have recently downloaded fbmode, and after following the steps prior to execuion, the execution fails, only giving me the error: couldn't write bp1, panic! After 4 hours of trying other software and searching for a solution, I made this post. I am using sustem v6.3.3, which is, from what I have read, 2nd generation. Any help would be much appreciated. I am also on a Arch Linux Box right now. Thanks.

Oh C'mon, is it even worth it?
I must apologize for my rant in advance, and is not directed at this group, but the task at hand: IMO all this is absolute Bull$h1t. I simply wanted to root my old Kindle (I've done this several times before without incident), and I go around and around downloading 5 gig SDK software, additional rooting programs, drivers, then being told I need a legacy this, and ADB that, and yet another different driver here, and so forth and so on, and then "oh no it dont work with windows 8.1" so I start this nonsense over on my XP box, and then 4 more hours later I read maybe its cause its the wrong cable, or whatever the "fix" is this hour!!!
Well. I did it my way.

[How To][Root] Kindle Fire 1 update 6.3.4 [2014]
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
I don't know if this is what EVERYONE is seeing with this problem, but in MY case, the problem was that various scripts were attempting to run fbmode as non-root user.
The most simplistic way of dealing with this is to start an adb shell, su to root, then execute /data/local/tmp/fbmode:
c:\ adb shell
$ su
# /data/local/tmp/fbmode
# exit
$ exit
c:\ adb reboot
The kindle should then reboot in fastboot mode.

After thinking about this some more, I'm guessing that the 'run as root' solution is not the root (no pun intended) cause of the problem. I don't know where/what 'bp1' is, but I'd be willing to bet that some of the other messing around that I've done has caused it to become unwriteable. Wish I knew what that was.

[Q] KIndle Fire D01400 TWRP recovery problems

Hello, this is my first post on this forum, though I have lurked on XDA since as far back as my droid eris.
I have looked around the kindle fire forum for the answers I seek, but I have not seen a thread that helps. If I am asking a redundant question, please kindly show me the relevant thread(s) and I will read them.
I was at a small computer store my friend owns in our tiny little town (white hat computer solutions minersville, pa), when a mutual friend and former classmate of ours brought us a Kindle Fire D01400 with a cracked screen he bought off ebay. the previous owner claimed it worked despite the cracked screen, From a hardware standpoint that is quite correct, as you can see everything yet, and the touchscreen responds.
However, they neglected to mention they were selling one that already was modified, it is running TWRP 2.4.4.0 and has an improperly flashed ROM on it ( the stock keyboard crashes, home screen soft key does nothing, gmail works, but google play store does not). sideloading a keyboard app on fixed the keyboard, but the gapps with the exception of gmail don't function. I figured doing a wipe and flash of a new rom and gapps would be a good starting point to attempt to fix this problem.
However when I go into TWRP recovery and try to wipe the system, dalvik, or cache, the operation fails.
I have tried taking the TWRP manager app and sideloading it and using that to update to the latest TWRP. but the version number remains at 2.7.0.1
So my question is, with the above details kept in mind: How exactly do I go about fixing this tablet and making it a functional piece of android hardware for my friend/customer?

Downloading and trying it now. Thanks, I usually do my best to find relevant threads before posting, I am not sure how I missed that one.
Will post back with results as soon as I am done
EDIT:
Flashed it to twrp 2.6.1.0 otter I still can't use the wipe option. tried factory reset figuring i could just push the rom and gapps down using adb again, but factory reset also failed. is there a permission I can reset using adb?

It's not stickied and 'flashable recoveries' can be misleading, but that is what they are called by many.

use Install.Drivers.bat from Kindle Fire Utility if you have not yet.
reboot pc, check device manager with kindle connected to PC
should be listed as an Android Phone>adb interface
if OK then
boot Kindle to TWRP
in command prompt on PC
Code:
adb devices
should get something like
Code:
123456789 recovery
if you get waiting for device for more than a few secs or or some kind of bad command error post it.
---------- Post added at 04:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:03 PM ----------
if response is good
Code:

When it is booted into android, it shows in adb as
Code:
list of devices attached
0123456789ABCDEF device
When I boot into TWRP and execute adb devices i get
Code:
list of devices attached
with no further error messages
In TWRP on the second row at the top, along with the battery level (100%) and time 5:26pm, it says SIMULATING ACTIONS in all caps. is it supposed to say that or should it say something else

Kindle should be off when entering fastboot commands, because kindle is in fastboot mode only a short time when powering on

Previous owner of the device had the TWRP recovery set to use simulation mode. I was unaware that was even an option since i was not familar with TWRP( my previous android flashing experiences used clockwork) after unchecking those boxes in the advanced settings, I was successfully able to flash a rom and gapps, and everything was perfect after that.
sorry for wasting so much time on this, I really missed something simple on this one.

Need help getting Fire Fire Fire and TWRP and Cyanogenmod on Kindle Fire 6.3.3

I've been trying on Windows, and followed the instructions, but when the Kindle rebooted, I didn't see any recovery menu. On Ubuntu now, and I installed Soupkit, adb, and fastboot. But I don't know what to do with these in Linux. I tried one guide, and it tried to load u-boot.bin, which wasn't included in the Soupkit install, and it turns out that Soupkit installed files in the wrong directory, so I tried making the directory path, and copying the files over there, and downloaded the u-boot.bin file I just ended up noticing and putting it in both directories, and it still wouldn't work.
Also, am I supposed to install Fire Fire Fire before TWRP?

Know how I go about getting fff installed? I tried looking up "Install Fire Fire Fire Kindle 6.3.3" and other similar searches, all I got was how to unbrick with twrp and stuff like that.
Edit: nvm, didn't notice the link. I tried Soupkitchen without the Kindle plugged in. Am I supposed to run it with it plugged in? I tried to run Soupkitchen again, but it's not letting me now.

I rooted it with Saferoot. Ran a root check app to make sure, and it said it's rooted. I tried following the instructions on the page you linked but it ends up pointing to Soupkit and it says no such file or directory when I try the push command.
I have adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and u-boot.bin in the Soupkit directory. I used the official Soupkit download, through terminal.

Kindle must be in fastboot mode to use SoupKit.
If windows command prompt says " it says no such file or directory when I try the push command."
adb/fastboot files are not in same older as command prompt is pointing to.

I have the exe files in the Soupkit folder. Is there anything I'm missing that I need to get fbmode to work? I'll go look around for a pack.

yes, SoupKit can not put the Kindle Fire with system version 6.3.3 in fastboot mode, you need to manually push the files with adb

I have the fbmode file. I always get stuck at the push command. I know I have the files that are needed, and I have two Soupkit folders just in case. One in jason/bin and the other in bin. I even tried copying the files in the files folder directly into the Soupkit folder, still no joy. I have adb.exe, fastboot.exe, fbmode.exe, and u-boot.bin and haven't messed around with any other folders I think. This is a sample of my terminal text.
[email protected]:~$ adb push fbmode /data/local/tmp
bash: /home/jason/bin/SoupKit/files/adb: No such file or directory
According to http://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378
enter and run this command:
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
And you're all set up! You can send commands to your device from any terminal window.

It says nothing was upgraded, and I already have the newest version. And when I try the push command, I still get the same error. Tried skipping ahead to adb shell and still getting a no such file or directory error. I downloaded the files that were linked in the guide, and I'm pretty sure I'm missing certain files, but I forgot what those were. I borked my bootloader when trying to use EasyBCD to replace Android x86 with Ubuntu. Ended up plugging in my spare drive and grabbing Ubuntu off of that, and loading it from my USB, so I have an OS again, but the files I had were lost, so I've been having to hunt down missing files.
Edit: I have Superuser on my Kindle. I wonder if there's anything I can do from there to make things easier.
