LG G3 ART issue - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ha e a LG g3 d850 and when I try to switch the run time to ART it dosent work it reboots and the same dalvik is there. The phone is brand new nothing added no exposed.

Are you using Xposed ??
If yes that is your problem.

You obviously didn't read what the op has written.

I just got an ATT LG G3 (D850) the other day. I switched to ART and it worked the first time. I would consider doing a factory reset and trying again before loading up apps.
I suggest taking advantage of LGBackup and Home backup to make this quick.

I do not have xposed. And I've tried to factory reset

Interestingly, installing xposed will change your phone back to dalvik from art on the reboot. if I have to chose between art (which oddly benchmarks slower on antutu) and xposed, ART is gone

It is a factory reset many times and nothing has been altered

LG G3 rebooting every few minutes

I've had my G3 for over a month now without many issues, however yesterday evening my phone randomly rebooted itself, and ever since reboots every few minutes, often when I unlock my phone or shortly after. I have booted in to safe mode, and reflashed both the latest i and j firmware updates but no success.
Any ideas or anything I can try to dig in to the issue further?
By any chance did you enable ART runtime in settings? Otherwise maybe you have a corrupt sdcard.
Did you try booting into recovery to delete the cache? All else fails, you might need to factory reset.

Its probably due to either overheating or you messed with something in the build.prop.
First is your phone rooted? If it is then did you do anything system-wise? (Xposed framework or edit the build.prop or attempt to "flash" something)?

Thanks, unfortunately I'm still on Dalvik, and have removed my sdcard to try and remove another piece from the puzzle. I've factory reset and also flashed both an i and a j kdz using LGFlashTool2014.
Is it worth me following the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475045 or is the LGFlashTool2014 the same thing?

I've had Xposed installed with a few modules since I first had the phone, and hadn't added any new modules recently, although I guess possibly one of them may have updated. I've since done a factory reset and flashed however so can no longer check. Would I be right to assume the re-flash would have put everything back in a stock state?

Reflash puts everything the way it was when you first took the phone off the box with the excitement and love.

Xposed causes my LG to reboot every few minutes, so it could be that.
Just for extra info...I had an optimus g pro and the same thing was happening...I sent it in for repair...but that didn't fix the problem...here is what fixed it from rebooting...I replaced the battery...yep it was the battery causing it...put the old one in and it started rebooting again...put the new one in again and no reboots...don't know if this will help you but it's what happened to me

Unfortunately that didn't work either. Looks like it'll have to go back for repair.
As a last gasp attempt to see if anyone else has any thoughts, I've noticed the following message in the logcat near when the phone restarts itselfL

I can't find anything online but I wonder if the phone is thinking it is overheating and therefore restarting? The device feels cold to the touch so I don't think it is actually overheating
Sounds like one of the chips is overheating. Maybe not be seating with the heatsink or whatever is supposed to help it keep cool. Ide take it back and get a replacement.

Interesting development, I flashed the Deviant CM11 AOSP rom on to it (using Tethered TWRP) and whilst it couldn't do much it lasted a whole day without rebooting. Unfortunately flashing the stock firmware or any other kdz back to the device causes the rebooting again. I'm still suspecting it could be a thermal issue, the phone wasn't exactly being stressed on Deviant.

G3 5.0 battery drain

Hi not been on here for a while as I had a great phone and not needed to alter anything (g2) but I've had a g3 for the last few months and it's been nothing but trouble. 5.0 finally fixed the lag . But now my battery life seems to be going twice as fast as before and it's not worth using yet again. Android system is draining roughly 30% of my battery more if I don't have the screen on. Any suggestions on anything to try? I'm currently backing up what I can to do a reset. As I haven't done a reset since back when I had my o3d can anyone recommend an app to use for backing stuff up without root? And anything in particular that I may loose and need to keep an eye out for? Thanks from a very frustrated g3 owner

I upgraded to 5.0 and had the same battery problem, so i reset the phone TWICE. Now battery is lasting more. since I use a sd card I never make backups of my internal memory.
Ok thanks I have reset mine and have got most of it restored now was mostly worried about apps and settings. Haven't really had chance to see how it goes on battery life yet fingers crossed. Thanks

Try @spiderio script. Flash it on recovery. It only works with stock kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/tweaks-lollipop-interactive-battery-t2951327
Just an update a factory reset appears to have cured it could still do with a couple of normal days use to confirm that it's not just placebo effect though. I'm assuming the above script is for root which I have promised myself I won't do until warranty is out but that does remind me that my g2 is now 14 months old may have to root that

I am having a few issues since upgraded to 5.0 yes battery drains in no time, but also having a lot of problems with my wifi, it always disconnects sometimes disconnects and then doesn't see wifi networks for a while, also becomes laggy - LG says there are not issues with the G3 and told me to factory reset(which I've already done!) so now they offered a repair?
I think it is an issue with the rom rather than something to repair!
I've heard the only way to roll back is flashing a rooted 4.4 but how do I do that if I am stuck with an unrooted 5.0 which doesnt have root yet? ?
To be honest my lag seems fixed by 5.0 but battery life was useless. Lag from New was awful though and I'm not sure what to make of WiFi I think it still does that but I'm not sure

[FIX] Lollipop Lag, slowness, signal issues, bad battery life, etc.

If any of you are having Lag, slowness, signal issues, bad battery life, etc. and/or other weird glitches after the lollipop update you need to factory reset your phone.
This is a know bug with updating from Kitkat to lollipop. It has happened on many devices, Nexus 5, nexus 7, Shield tablet, N910A etc.
Just factory reset your phone and re-set it up and most if not all of the problems will be gone.
From my brief understanding it has to do with some downloaded apps not switching from davlink to ART correctly during the OTA process. Facebook on my shield tablet was a notorious culprit.
Just an FYI hope it helps a few people out.

We did have one person factory reset to attempt to solve the "heart rate light turning on" bug, and it did not solve the problem.
Have you noticed this bug or used S Health yet?
One list I always go through is: update, update all apps, boot into recovery, wipe cache, and reboot twice. Works great and I know a bunch of others see similar results

Luckily I was already running ART prior to the update to 5.0.1, so I haven't seen any of these issues yet, and hope none crop up. :good:
Luckily I haven't had any of the glitches a few people have mentioned. However, my friend with an S5 needed to factory reset hers after being pushed the lollipop update and it smoothed everything out. Just like when flashing a ROM guys...starting fresh helps a lot.
Anytime there is a major change to an OS, whether it be on my PC/Mac or my phone, I always factory reset and start over. ALWAYS. Too many little bugs and quirks pop up in software upgrades for me to waste my time with that stuff. I'd always rather start fresh...plus then I can weed out the apps I don't use anymore.
As an old habit, I always do a system reset after a major upgrade. I did the same with this upgrade and it has been running pretty smooth for me.
I am now experiencing lag in a bunch of places, yet I did a factory reset.

I did this right here cause I noticed my battery was draining a good amount when the phone wasn't being used. After this and a full charge, the phone went back to how it was before.
I wiped cache and factory reset 3 times and I haven't experienced any of the aforementioned issues.

This is what I did. I had absolutely no issues with the update.
The minor issue is the quick note app pops up very slowly. But that is fairly minor, and not significantly different from kitkat.
factory reset
I rebooted a couple of times after the update, and wiped cache in recovery. Still experienced lag all over the place, especially w/ the dialer. I factory reset last night and it's been running more smoothly since.
Has anyone noticed that when booting into recovery, it says "installing system updates"? I even got a message, before the recovery screen popped up, that "no command found". After that popped up briefly, the phone went into recovery and all seemed fine.

Yup,
Dead Andy then into recovery. Weird...
This update to lollipop on the note 4 has been the best update experience that I've had on any phone. Love it. And yes, factory reset solved many issues that were honestly minor and I really didn't feel I had to, but I did bc I'm crazy. ..but it was worth it.
Back up phone via kies, I am impressed it worked great.

I'm going to try this again. I've already done it before but hopefully this will fix my problem.
On 4.4 I went 2 days with heavy usage. It was insane! I use my phone a ton at work for RDP, videos, and other IT related stuff. Now I can barely go 1 good full day.... Really hope this fixes it.
My update went well without any troubles, but now I am few weeks into using Lollipop and I definitely notice faster battery drain. I also have disappearing icons, just like others complained (Google Hangout and Phone icon disappeared).
I'm not experience a lot of major issues....but I did do a recovery reset....but I reinstalled via kies. I'm planning on doing a recovery flash again....but this time I'm not going to have it install the apps.

I'm not experiencing this I'm actually getting very good battery life. Don't know if you have disabled the system apps you don't use???
Also something I always used to do when I had the T-Mobile note 4 rooted of course, I always disabled Samsung push services it was always recommended. Don't know if it would make any difference but you can give it a shot.
I have all the apps I don't use disabled and it still hasn't been helping. I'm thinking about calling ATT and getting an exchange

Random reboots after 6.0.1 update?

I used the OK1 tar through ODIN, then did a factory reset then took the 6.0.1 update. Yesterday I got probably 2 random reboots and now this morning I have had 4 one after another probably 5 minutes apart from each other. I am using the I heart radio app to listen to a local radio show and the phone keeps rebooting. I thought maybe it was the app causing this so I uninstalled and reinstalled it and the phone keeps rebooting. I recently purchased a replacement Anker battery and have been using it for a week now with no issues. Anyone have something similar like this happening? Anyway to fix this besides the obvious wipe everything clean and try again?
EDIT: It's the app, others are reporting the same issue with newer phones running Marshmallow.
Same problem. Sprint is getting me a replacement

Samsung Note 4 reboots randomly in IHeart app
Mine has shut down automatically when listening to IHeart App, but not with other apps, so I assume it's that app that is causing it. I did uninstall & reinstall app. Did not help. I cleared system cache. Did not help. I initially did soft reboot with battery out and in after 10 seconds. Did not help. I have not contacted sprint yet, but that is my next option. Any help would be appreciated.

Rooted? Are you seeing a pop-up for the reboot (prompt)? Screenshots or logs?
How did you upgrade to marshmallow? What update are you on? What ROM are you running? Custom kernel? If rooted stock with custom kernel, have you fully removed ItsOn and Knox? Did you wipe or factory reset? Include your steps to get an idea of what is causing the reboot issue.
(If stock un-rooted, you may have some residual data from Lollipop. If rooted with custom kernel, you may have files from ItsOn or Knox causing issues. Basically, un-rooted and rooted have their own set of concerns. Need more info to offer suggestions.)

Not rooted.
Best description I can give is that at night when my nighclock is on. ...
the light on back and menu button will come on...
simultaneously the my note edge message will flash on the edge replacing the night clock for a few seconds (this is the background soft reset I think)...
the phone is not functional for these few seconds ie if i press a button to wake screen up then it will wait and hi locker won't let fingerprint work after this happens.
Rinse and repeat every few minutes.

Not an answer but how many of these applications you mention are third party applications?
Typically, lock-screen is only available a few seconds and screen is forced off; deep sleep may eventually occur but you have only a small amount of control to prevent deep sleep; that's usually a good thing. These apps may not be remaining fully functional when conflict results in screen going off unexpectedly or deep sleep trying to save your battery kicks in.
Dunno what compatibility is expected with multiple apps active while trying to keep lock-screen on or wake frequently? My use of lock-screen apps is limited to my third party alarm. I'm happy that it wakes to alarm; I can snooze and allow screen to go off quickly and wake for snooze until I dismiss the alarm (without having to unlock screen). That's about all I'm familiar with lock-screen applications.
My only suggestion would be to try to limit the third party apps used in lock-screen mode to find the maximum compatibility. Dunno, if those are third party applications conflicting, it's just a guess.
Maybe one or more of these applications aren't fully compatible with marshmallow?
On the subject of waking phone being slow, I think it was reported by non rooted users that factory reset cured that for some users. It's possible that if phone wasn't factory reset coming to Marshmallow from Lollipop, that factory resetting now would help.
