[Q] Separate signal and data icons - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm running rooted stock Sony firmware (just upgraded to latest .157). With the Sony firmware it combines the cellular signal and the data connection to a single icon - putting the data type (LTE, H+ ...) above the signal strength.
Is it possible to separate these out to two different icons. Main reason for this, when I go abroad to indicate the phone is roaming it puts a R above the signal strength in place of the data type. I therefore have no idea if the phone has a data connection / what type of connection it is (without going through Settings --> About ....).
Cheers,

[Q] How I Put The 3G Icon If I Dont Have Data Connection ?

Does exist a hack or something ? I live in Dominican Republic and here doesnt have Data Connection for the CDMA Smartphones only Phone+Message...
I want the 3G icon on my status bar but i have 1x connection.. No 4G , no 1X ...
Help Me Please
You'd need to swap the pngs for the 1x icons with 3G icons in your systemui.apk.
Or use a stock rom. On the stock Evo roms the 3g is "stuck" and as long as you have any kind of data connection you'll get 3g showing. Since you're getting 1x your qualify. Plainjane's solution is more appropriate if you want to stay on a custom rom.

Radio signal, but data not working. No "1x" or "3x" on signal bars.

Our gnex was working fine with the Maddoggin rom. I was playing in some menus (*#*#DATA#*#*, DIAG, and DEBUG), but don't think i changed any settings. When I rebooted, I noticed that the CDMA signal bars (I don't use LTE) were grey, not blue, and no data worked. There were no 1x or 3x icons on the signal bars.
I enabled wifi, and then the CDMA signal bars turned blue, but there was still no 1x or 3x icons on top of the signal bars. When I disabled WiFi, the signal bars turned gray again, and there was no data.
I restored the phone to stock using Odin. Tried every radio imaginable. Still same problem.
Any ideas what could be wrong? Would the factory restore with Odin revert my DATA settings to factory defaults, or could some other change I made before restoring still be persisting?
I'm at a complete loss here - no clue what to do.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
The 1x icons is when data is connected, they won't show if data is not connected.
Not sure if CDMA devices uses APN for data, but i think you could check it out under Settings > More... > Mobile networks > Access Point Names

Nope, no APN settings in the CDMA version.
Interesting note: when i put the phone into airplane mode, the "3G" indicator turns on about the signal bars just before the airplane icon appears.
Any other thoughts on this? Is there an easy way to verify all my data settings, perhaps comparing them to another sprint GNex owner's phone?

[Q] Random data and reception dropps

Hello everyone
Im having an annoying issue with all ROMS\Kernels. All works fine but sometimes i get random reception drops (signal bar gets blank or black), reception returns but NOT data. If i turn plane mode on\off and data on\off, i get the H to show near the reception bars but i dont get actual data connection. Data returns only after i reboot the device. I tried changing the APN settings, tried using the GetRil app from the market. No change..
Base band: 19250XXLF1
btw the phone is GSM.
thanks for the help

Strange Signal drop and reception problems

I bought and unlocked galaxy s3 att in India,I live in apartments,I'm getting 3-4 bars when I sit near the windows and when I come to room I loose signal,And the strange things is When I hold my mobile with left hand signal drops like crazy leaving only 1 bar,I tried Carbon, quantum,Slimrom still none resolved the issue
I updated my modem to UCDMG2 running 4.1.1,still same problem,And another things is 4g icon it shows still connects to 2g networks,I mean speed is worse like 2g still it shows 4g,custom roms too have that problem, when i select LTE it shows H+ only and I get 2g speeds,I'm using airtel network, they have good coverage and network speeds
Did you check your APN settings to see if they are correct? There is an option sometimes that will push for 2g. Also if you are using multiple apns there are APN types that can be put in that will make it choose that APN as a priority over others. I am not certain without looking it up but I think it may be "hipri" don't quote me though.
For example if u had multiple apns and that type was liatedbon one of them other than the correct one for say proper late connection.. It could perhaps use the one you are not wanting
This is just me reaching and it may not be The cause but doblook at your APN settings.
First I'd research what the current correct APN setup for your carrier is
Good luck
If you want to see your true connection, go to Settings > About Device > Status > Network Type
Have you checked to make sure your carrier uses the bands/frequencies supported by the device?
Thanks fo r your quick response guys, But I'm using quantum rom now, Even If I select 3g or Lte it shows As if it is using EDGE,
3g and 4g are not currently available in our area ,and that Grip problem persists too, I loose signal if I hold both sides of my device with on e hand , and it gains signal bars if I release the left side of my device(I heard the antenna is situated at the bottom of device )!

Weak to NONE 4G and 3G network signals.

I just bought the Nexus 5X, nice device overall but I encounter some reception issues (in my flat) with the recommended, default, 4G and the 3G connectivity ( very poor signal to none, the network bar is empty). They work perfectly outside though. The 2G option has full reception. What is there to do?
I'm on Orange, Romania, and just got a new nano-sim for this device.
Things I have tried:
-Turn airplane mode on, then turning it back off
-Reboot phone. When it is off removed the SIM card and then re inserted it and turn on.
-Check Settings/more/cellular network/preferred network type and try to change to each of the network settings,
-Reset network settings from Backup&Reset
*Other phones got slightly poor internet reception too but their overall signal is good, and their network bars are filled whereas I got no bar
*The previous Moto G did just fine and always had H+ in my home (to mention that I changed my micro-sim, which was the sim the Moto G was on to a new nano-sim to suit the Nexus )
*In some parts of the house it alternates from a half-full network bar to an empty network bar (usually it is just a 5-10 sec. filled and then back to empty)
*When I manage to have some lines in the network bar, the mobile data stays at E.
Was there a solution to this? I feel like I'm having a similar issue after two days use. Have asked provider for info too.
